Chapter 21: Chaos in the Town

Chapter 21: Chaos in the Town

The sun was blazing brightly in the sky, and a group of yamen runners were stationed in front of the government office with swords in hand. The long swords were unsheathed for three inches, and the whole hall was filled with murderous aura.

A group of wealthy merchants knelt in the hall, secretly looking at each other with their heads down, their faces becoming increasingly ugly - they were all detained today, and urgently awaited interrogation and sentencing by the government.

"Have you caught them all?"

Duan Mocheng walked over on the blue bricks, and the charges in his hand fell to the ground and scattered like snow waves.

The gentry took one look and their pupils constricted immediately.

The paper was filled with records of their secret dealings over the years, and the numerous bloody incidents were as shocking as the blood.

"The evidence of your collaboration with the Huanxing Sect has been verified. Since the old magistrate is unconscious, I will be the judge."

Duan Mocheng said coldly, "For years, you have colluded with officials and private interests, taking human lives with you. Now, all of you are imprisoned and will be executed at a later date!"

"Wait!"

Suddenly, an urgent cry was heard from the crowd kneeling on the ground.

The old man in brocade robe trembled as he picked up a few pages of indictment: "Sir, we do have a close relationship with Huanxing Sect, but the murder of someone..."

"Still want to quibble?!"

Duan Mocheng's eyes widened with anger, and he waved his hand fiercely: "Bring him up!"

Two yamen runners escorted the half-dead monk into the hall, and the faces of the gentry changed drastically.

"This immortal has explained everything you did clearly." Duan Mocheng sneered, "Or do you want to repeat in public the collusion you made yesterday?"

"."

The lobby suddenly became quiet, leaving only anxious gasps for air.

The old man in the brocade robe sweated profusely, and trembled as he raised the corner of his mouth: "Sir, we have no choice. If we offend the Immortal Sect, we will all die."

Duan Mocheng waved his hand and ordered the bailiffs to put all these people in jail.

"Sir, what should we do now?"

The constable leaned in close to his ear, his face full of worry: "We injured and killed those monks, if the Huanxing Sect blames us..."

"This is inevitable." Duan Mocheng's expression was solemn, and he subconsciously stroked the hilt of his sword. "Even if we do nothing, the Huanxing Sect will make a big move in the next few days, and many people will die in vain."

The detectives around looked at each other in confusion.

After all, they all grew up hearing about the good name of Huanxing Sect. In their minds, the immortal sect is a holy place for seeking immortality. How could it be associated with these dirty and evil deeds?

If it weren't for the overwhelming evidence of the bloody murders they had uncovered, they really couldn't imagine that the Huanxing Sect was so terrifying in private.

"How are the people doing?"

"We have made the evidence of Huanxing Sect's crimes public, but many people still don't believe it."

"Quickly drive those people away, the farther away from Jingyang Town the better." Duan Mocheng hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth and said, "If you don't want to die, you can flee with the people—"

"grown ups!"

Suddenly, an urgent cry came from outside the government office: "A group of Huanxing Sect monks are riding on horses and are not far from the town gate!"

"Come so fast?!"

Duan Mocheng's collar was soaked with sweat as he paced around in disarray. "It's over! The hero hasn't returned yet."

He murmured something between his clenched teeth, his thumb unconsciously stroking the hilt of the knife.

Is it possible that I have to risk my life to stop it?
"Patrol Officer Duan!" A constable stepped forward resolutely, his eyes bloodshot like spiderwebs. "My sister was chosen by the Huanxing Sect three years ago, and now I know she's been murdered. This blood feud... I'm going to fight the Huanxing Sect!"

The sound of swords being unsheathed could be heard from the lacquer pillars. Several yamen runners stepped forward, clutching their badges tightly. "The inspector has uncovered this bloody case. How can we continue to turn a blind eye?"

Duan Mocheng felt a surge of heat in his chest, but his palms felt cold and damp. Even if these men were brave, how could they withstand the cultivators' terrifying methods?

If we rely solely on the town's officers and soldiers, I'm afraid there will be a river of blood.
“I didn’t expect that even the town officials would disobey.”

The frosty voice penetrated into everyone's heart, causing everyone to hold their breath.

Duan Mocheng turned back in shock, seeing a figure in a black robe standing on the wall with his hands behind his back, glancing at the crowd. "Brother Huanxing."

Duan Mocheng felt cold all over, and even his right hand holding the knife trembled unconsciously.

Just by making eye contact, he couldn't even muster the thought of resisting.

The man in the lead was not at the same level as the monks he had seen before!
"It's Li Tiantong, the first true disciple of the Immortal Sect."

A yamen runner uttered the name through gritted teeth, his steel knife clanging to the ground, and he stumbled to the ground, his face pale. "How, how could it be so horrible?"

"Answer honestly, who instigated you?"

Li Tiantong landed gracefully on the ground, his handsome face calm and his eyes filled with a cold and strange look.

With every step he took closer, the veins on Duan Mocheng's wrists bulged a little more, and the long sword he gripped creaked and trembled.

"My father is from the Imperial City—"

Before he finished speaking, Duan Mocheng felt a lightness on his waist, and the patrol officer's token turned into a stream of light and disappeared into the other party's palm.

Li Tiantong grabbed the sign and examined it. "The son of an imperial official, no wonder he dared to come here and act wildly."

He lightly gathered his five fingers together, and the fine iron crumbled into pieces like a shortbread. "It's a pity that the mountains are high and the road is long. It's not the place for the Imperial City to tell us what to do in Jingyang Town."

Duan Mocheng's throat churned, and he instinctively took two steps back. "Though you cultivators are powerful, you have disregarded the authority of the Holy Emperor and wantonly committed murder. Be careful not to bring disaster upon yourself!"

He suddenly pressed the heel of his boot against the stairs, shook his sword, and shouted, "Stop immediately! Otherwise, don't blame us for turning hostile and attacking you!"

"Go ahead." Li Tiantong kept walking, and wherever he went, the cold wind was like frost. "The warrior's body might be used to refine a good elixir."

"Ahhhh!"

Under the threat of life and death, two yamen runners could not bear it and rushed forward with swords in hand, roaring.

Duan Mocheng was shocked: "Go back quickly——"

The screams stopped abruptly as the two yamen runners crashed into the outer wall like kites with broken strings.

Duan Mocheng and the yamen runners behind him were all stunned.

It was impossible to tell when this person made his move.
"Don't worry." Li Tiantong stepped on the blood-stained ground and dropped the broken knife between his fingers. His brows seemed to reflect a ferocious bloodshot. "I still have many questions to ask. I can spare your lives for now."

"Retreat quickly!"

Duan Mocheng suddenly woke up, sweating profusely, and shouted anxiously: "I'll block it here, you guys run away!"

"escape?"

Seeing Duan Mocheng taking the initiative to raise his sword, Li Tiantong laughed out loud: "My Huanxing Sect cultivators have arrived, no one in this town can escape."

He grabbed the incoming blade with ease, and the fine iron shattered in his palm like candy.

"Uh!"

Duan Mocheng felt a pain in his wrist and dropped his knife before retreating.

Li Tiantong raised his head slightly, his smile vanishing. "You, try again now."

call out--!
A sharp sound broke through the air and pierced through the yamen wall, and a strong wind suddenly appeared!
Li Tiantong's face suddenly became serious. He waved his sleeves and swung his palms to forcibly block the attack from behind.

There was a muffled explosion, and he was knocked back half a step by the force. He quickly turned over his left palm, which was emitting green smoke.

"Huanxing Order?"

"You guys came pretty fast."

The heavy red lacquer door flew open with a bang, and a scorching wind blew sand and dust into the courtyard.

Su Cheng came over with a sword in hand, brushing off the dust on his body. "I've been traveling so long that I'm a little tired of killing people."

Li Tiantong's eyes were solemn, and his voice suddenly became gloomy: "Who are you?"

"Don't talk nonsense." Su Chengzhen wiped the blood stains on the sword and beckoned: "Hurry up and attack."
