Chapter 427 White Light

Chapter 427 White Light
After an unknown amount of time, Zhu Yu slowly woke up, her consciousness gradually becoming clearer.

In this dark tunnel, she couldn't tell how long she had been unconscious on the ground. She only knew that when she woke up, she felt incredibly cold. It was as if the ground beneath her was not a stone slab, but a huge block of ice that had sucked all the warmth out of her body.

Zhu Yu shakily got up, first checked the injury on his leg, and found that the bleeding had stopped, and his foot did not have any discomfort from poor blood circulation for a long time.

It seems I haven't been unconscious for very long.

Zhu Yu reached out and touched the ground beneath her again. Sure enough, an unusually cold temperature emanated from it. Even though her hands were already very cold, she could still feel the abnormally low temperature.

This is not an ordinary stone slab.

Zhu Yu quickly came to a conclusion in his mind and carefully stood up, supporting himself.

The woman's body likely died some time ago, even longer than she had previously estimated.

Although she didn't know the secrets of the stone slabs beneath her feet, she understood why there were no deadly traps hidden there—because the ground constantly released cold air, drawing away the body heat.

If someone tries to hide here, the end result could be that they freeze to death from hypothermia.

Although the bleeding on her leg had stopped, the wound was still very painful, and Zhu Yu couldn't even jump around to warm herself up.

She tore off another piece of cloth from her outer skirt and wrapped it back around her injured leg, slightly looser than before—her legs still needed smooth blood circulation, and re-bandaging was simply to make walking more secure and prevent the wound from reopening.

Now that things have come to this, there is only one way to go: to keep moving forward. Zhu Yu carefully wrapped his clothes around himself and returned to the entrance of the tunnel he had run from. He cautiously leaned out and managed to get a few more iron needles that were close to him. In addition to the one from before, there were also the ones he had pulled out of the wound. He then tucked a bunch of iron needles into his waistband.

Ahead was still a tunnel, but it seemed much wider than when we came, though the light was also much dimmer.

After thinking it over carefully, Zhu Yu picked up the remaining part of her outer skirt that she had torn off from the ground, and wrapped it around her head, face, and neck like a huge headscarf. She also left two strips of cloth to wrap around her hands.

Besides helping himself retain more body heat, there was another reason for doing this.

The situation ahead was still unknown, but a strong intuition told her that the less skin exposed in the tunnel, the better, even if it was just a thin layer of cloth, as more layers would provide more protection.

Having made these preparations, she steeled herself, took a deep breath, and limped forward.

In the dim tunnel, Zhu Yu moved slowly forward. The wound on her leg hurt terribly with every step, which greatly slowed her pace, forcing her to move slowly. As she walked, she listened carefully to the sounds around her, looking for any sounds of mechanisms in operation.

After slowly moving a short distance, Zhu Yu felt that he could vaguely hear some rustling sounds in his ears. These sounds were completely different from the sounds of the mechanism operating behind the wall. They were very fragmented, very small, and very chaotic and irregular.

Perhaps her eyes had finally adjusted to the dimmer light around her, and she vaguely sensed some shadowy figures moving around her.

Suddenly, Zhu Yu felt something fall onto his shoulder and start moving rapidly. The sensation of many tiny feet moving around made Zhu Yu's scalp tingle instantly. He instinctively held his breath and stood there motionless, feeling the tiny feet move from his shoulder to his back, then up his neck to the top of his head, and then slowly move towards his forehead.

Zhu Yu clenched his teeth tightly, desperately suppressing the urge to shake off the things on his body.

The creature on my body must be a spider, and it shouldn't be too small. The rustling sounds around me clearly indicate that there are probably countless of its kind in this section of the tunnel.

This tunnel was never intended to give anyone a chance to get out alive, and these spiders were probably not ordinary spiders; they might even be poisonous. She dared not take the risk.

The most fortunate thing is that I just covered my head, face, and neck with the dead woman's outer skirt, otherwise it's hard to say what my situation would be now.

Unfortunately, the outer skirt was made of very thin gauze, so thin that one could vaguely see the road ahead. But if the spider were to bite hard, it could probably easily pierce through the gauze and break its own skin.

In the blink of an eye, the spider above his head had already crawled up to Zhu Yu's face.

Its slender legs hooked onto the skirt in front of Zhu Yu. In front of its small head were a pair of curved mouthparts that looked like they could easily pierce the skin. On its round belly, some white patterns could be vaguely seen, just like a hideous ghost face.

Although he couldn't identify what kind of spider it was, Zhu Yuguang felt extremely uneasy just looking at its appearance.

The spider lay quietly on the gauze of Zhu Yu's dress in front of her. Zhu Yu quickly held her breath so as not to disturb it with her breath.

After an unknown amount of time, just when Zhu Yu was almost suffocating, the spider finally moved its eight slender legs once again and slowly crawled away.

While they held their breath and dared not make a move, the number of spiders crawling around them noticeably increased.

As if sensing something, they all surged towards Zhu Yu's direction.

Zhu Yu dared not remain still, nor dared to make any sudden movements. He could only move forward step by step. Apart from his two feet moving slowly, the rest of his body seemed to have been acupunctured, turning him into a stiff piece of wood, and he dared not move at all.

Soon she felt more and more things crawling on her body, but she could only grit her teeth and move forward slowly step by step, gradually feeling spiders under her feet.

The bulging bodies of those spiders burst open beneath her shoes, and the sensation of each step made Zhu Yu feel utterly devastated, filled with both shock and fear.

And so they walked step by step, and the dark tunnel gradually came into light.

The light was not the brightness of the torches, but a brilliant white light, as if a sun was hanging in front of us, shining brightly.

May this bring me great joy.

Does this mean I'm going to have to go out on my own?
