Chapter 291 The opportunity has come

Chapter 291 The opportunity has come
The hardest thing in the world is not doing a very complicated and tedious thing from beginning to end, but repeating some trivial but simple and boring behaviors meticulously every day.

Zhu Yu understood this principle well, so he patiently continued to play the role of a servant. Because he was quick and diligent, he was the most capable when helping in the kitchen, and thus had more opportunities to work as an assistant in the kitchen.

Three more days passed. One evening after dinner, Zhu Yu was debating whether to sneak back to Chestnut Garden when he was suddenly summoned back by a guard from the Pang family.

"Hey kid, you go to the kitchen, there's work for you to do!" he said gruffly to Zhu Yu. Over the past few days, ordering this servant around seemed to have become a habit.

"Okay." Zhu Yu quickly replied, his face showing a reluctant but forced expression.

The guard, unsuspecting of her reaction, waved for Zhu Yu to get back to work.

Zhu Yu ran all the way to the back kitchen. She had been coming here often these past few days. After arriving, she went straight to the Wangfu's chef: "Uncle Li, did you ask me to help you with some work?"

The cooks in the Prince's mansion only knew that the second young lady, who had gotten married, had returned. This was a secret that no one in the entire mansion could tell, or anyone who did would lose their head. They didn't know what Zhu Yu looked like after putting on the fake skin. For the past few days, they had assumed that the person who had been helping out was a servant boy named "Little Fish".

"I don't have any work for you," the cook waved his hand, pointed in another direction with some sympathy, and said to Zhu Yu, "Those people took turns washing dishes before, but none of them want to do it today. They needed someone to replace them, and they didn't expect to find you!"

Zhu Yu looked in the direction he pointed and saw several tall stacks of dirty plates and bowls.

"I'll come help you after I finish cleaning up here!" the cook sighed. "You're still young, and you haven't learned to be clever enough yet!"

"Didn't you ever think about why they can't catch anyone else for this job, but they can catch you? It's because you're not clever enough, you couldn't hide from their eyes, and you walked right in front of them!"

Zhu Yu grinned and waved to the cook, "Uncle Li, it's alright, I'm young and have plenty of energy! You've been busy all day, so don't help me anymore. Finish cleaning up and get some rest, you'll have to get up early to work again tomorrow!"

The cook had offered to help Zhu Yu clean up, but upon hearing her say that, he readily agreed with a smile, finished his finishing touches, and left with the words, "Just call me if you're too busy."

Looking at the huge pile of plates and bowls, Zhu Yu wasn't worried at all; in fact, he was overjoyed.

She had never been so happy in her life to be able to wash dishes!

Because she had been waiting for this opportunity for far too long.

Zhu Yu quickly washed the dirty dishes and rinsed them with clean water. After looking around and seeing that no one was around, she quickly took out a porcelain bottle that Yan Daoxin had left for her from her bosom and poured all the powder inside into the large iron pot on the stove.

The pot contained the water she had just filled; the powder from the porcelain bottle dissolved quickly in the water and disappeared in an instant.

Zhu Yu carefully put the already washed dishes back into the pot, repeatedly and meticulously soaking them, and then rinsed each one carefully in the water before taking them out and stacking them aside.

After finishing all that, there wasn't much water left in the pot. Zhu Yu carefully scooped the water into a small wooden bucket, letting the pot dry slowly with only a thin layer of moisture. Then, he rubbed his aching back from bending over for too long, picked up the bucket of water, and left. When no one was looking, he poured it all into the outhouse.

The next morning, Zhu Yu got up early as usual, ran out to sweep and clean, and even went to the kitchen to help Chef Li.

Among the guards of the Pang family was one who could cook. He was responsible for preparing meals for their group every day. Right now, he was cooking a large pot of vegetable porridge. When he saw Zhu Yu, he said to her, "Were you the one who washed the pots and dishes yesterday?" Zhu Yu was a little nervous, but she didn't mind showing it at the moment and quickly nodded.

Seeing her like this, the guard laughed and said, "Don't panic! You washed the pots, pans, and spoons well last night! You can wash them all today too!"

"Okay, okay!" Zhu Yu nodded repeatedly, looking relieved.

Chef Li could only secretly shake his head, thinking that this "Little Fish" was really a blockhead, a silly boy, and deserved to work harder than others.

In no time, the guard had cooked the vegetable porridge. He ladled it out bowl by bowl and had people take it away to various places.

Zhu Yu silently assisted Chef Li from the side, but in reality, her heart was in her throat.

Everyone else had finished serving their porridge, and there was still a little left in the pot, but somehow, all the bowls that were originally on the stove were used up.

The guard swaggered over and gestured at Chef Li, "Bring me another bowl!"

Chef Li naturally dared not disobey the other party's request, and quickly handed over a clean bowl.

The guard scooped the remaining porridge from the pot and started eating it heartily while standing by the stove.

Zhu Yu didn't dare to breathe loudly; all she could hear was the sound of her own heartbeat.

Just as she was mentally simulating several different situations and how to deal with them, she suddenly heard a thud behind her, which startled both her and Chef Li.

The two of them turned around at the same time and saw the guard lying on the ground, unconscious, with a broken bowl next to him and half a bowl of porridge spilled all over the ground.

"I'll go get someone to come and take a look!" Zhu Yu's heart skipped a beat, and he ran outside.

"Hey, don't go! You idiot!" Chef Li was startled, afraid that if Zhu Yu ran out to find someone and came back, those fierce-looking guards would blame it on the two of them, so he hurriedly chased after him.

The two of them ran and chased each other, running all the way out of the kitchen, their pace gradually slowing down.

Zhu Yu's heart was still pounding from running, but the tension and trepidation in his eyes were gone, replaced by a gleam of excitement.

Chef Li, standing behind her, was more shocked than anything else.

Wherever they passed, the Pang family's tall and burly guards, just like the one in the kitchen, lay sprawled on the ground, all unconscious.

"What... what's going on?" Chef Li was so frightened that he stammered.

Zhu Yu had no time to pay attention to him at this moment. She rushed back to the chestnut garden as fast as she could and shouted as soon as she entered the courtyard, "Fu Lu, come out and get to work!"
