Chapter 893 The Last Person

Chapter 893 The last person

Half an hour later, the two moved far away from the riverbank and began to set up camp.

Now there are only two of them left, both of them are injured and have lost a lot of supplies. It is no longer possible for them to build a complete camp like before.

So, the two of them simply set up a hammock, lit a fire, and sprinkled some insect repellent around the area.

They didn't have the energy to do anything more. After setting up this makeshift camp, the two ate a few bites of dry rations and lay down in their hammocks.

Just as "Big Fish" was drifting off to sleep, the mercenary captain, lying in another hammock not far from him, had already fallen unconscious due to internal bleeding.

Although Sun Zhiwei had gotten close, he didn't make a move. Instead, he took out his polar vehicle and rested.

After a while, a lot of blood gushed from the mercenary captain's mouth and nose, and he died unconscious.

In the middle of the night, when Sun Zhiwei got up to use the bathroom, he saw that the "Big Fish's" camp had become lively. The blood that the mercenary captain had vomited before his death had attracted many nocturnal, bloodthirsty animals to come closer.

The first to arrive were the mosquitoes in the forest, then some vampire bats landed on the corpse, followed by two jaguars attracted by the smell of blood, and finally a huge anaconda arrived.

The arrival of so many predatory animals at the "big fish's" camp startled him awake, even though he was fast asleep.

When "Big Fish" woke up, he subconsciously looked at the mercenary captain, and for a moment, his heart stopped beating.

A massive anaconda was seen swallowing the mercenary captain whole, with only his two legs sticking out, but he didn't seem to be struggling at all.

By the light of the fire on the ground, he could also see that on the remaining two legs, there were still many mosquitoes and vampire bats that refused to give up.

Higher up on the branches, two jaguars, unwilling to have their food stolen, stared intently at the anaconda below.

In the sky, swarms of mosquitoes and bats flew silently, obscuring most of the dim moonlight.

What a terrifying scene it was, that the "big fish" was so terrified that it became paralyzed and dared not move an inch.

If he hadn't been wearing an insulated life jacket, he probably wouldn't have survived either.

At this moment, he could only bury his head in the life blanket like an ostrich, but he couldn't stop his body from trembling.

After Sun Zhiwei went to the toilet, he saw the situation at the campsite, but he ignored it and continued to lie down and sleep.

The next day at dawn, the "big fish's" camp returned to calm, and the bloodthirsty animals that had ravaged the area the previous night had all disappeared.

The mercenary captain's body, which had been in the hammock, was also gone, leaving "Big Fish" all alone in the camp, still hiding in the survival blanket in the hammock.

Sun Zhiwei knew that "Big Fish" must have been emotionally broken after experiencing the horrific scene last night, but was that enough? No.

While eating breakfast, he tossed two bullet ants under the "big fish's" life blanket.

This little gadget's wake-up function is so useful.

Sure enough, a short while later he heard the "big fish's" screams from afar, and then he saw the "big fish" fall from the hammock and land right on the embers of the fire on the ground.

The scalding ashes from the fire burned him, causing him to scream in agony again. Then, as if he had gone mad, "Big Fish" screamed and cried, grabbing his backpack and rushing into the depths of the forest.

Seeing that he hadn't forgotten to grab his backpack before running, Sun Zhiwei knew that the "big fish" hadn't given up hope. "That's good. Since you can still run, then let you keep running."

However, without a mercenary captain leading the way, the "big fish" wouldn't be able to survive for long in the terrifying Amazon rainforest; everything was about to end.

After breakfast, Sun Zhiwei changed into a brand new set of gear and continued to follow behind "Big Fish".

The "big fish" rampages through the jungle with its tenacious vitality, constantly being attacked by animals along the way.

He continued to charge forward while screaming in agony, his body covered in leeches and insects, which further intensified his suffering.

Just as Sun Zhiwei was about to clean up the mess, a wooden arrow shot from a distance and accurately struck one of the "big fish's" legs.

This unexpected event made Sun Zhiwei stop what he was doing. He quickly moved closer, covering a larger area of space, and finally spotted a figure above the trees in front of him.

That must have been a primitive man, or a hunter from an Amazonian tribe.

He appeared to be a middle-aged man, covered in various colors of paint, walking as if on flat ground on a platform made of tree branches several meters above the ground.

That leisurely, carefree manner was like that of a legendary elf, only not as beautiful as an elf.

Here we must explain the ecological distribution in the Amazon rainforest.

The entire dense rainforest is roughly divided into four layers.

The bottom layer is the ground, above which is a humus layer several meters deep, with nitrogen dioxide accumulation and oxygen concentration less than half of normal.

Due to the dense vegetation on the upper layer, sunlight has difficulty penetrating, resulting in sparse sunlight on the ground layer, creating a dark and damp environment with an average daily sunlight duration of less than two hours.

This area is home to mosses, lichens, ferns, and other low-lying herbaceous plants. It is a habitat for most bacteria, fungi, decomposers, and scavengers.

Bullet ants, poison dart frogs, and anteaters mainly inhabit this level.

The second layer is the shrub layer, located above the ground layer, with a height between 1 and 5 meters, and consists of herbaceous plants, ferns, and low shrubs.

Because the sunlight conditions are slightly better than at the ground level, this area has become the most concentrated area for insects, small reptiles, and rodents in the rainforest.

Colorful poisonous butterflies, germ-carrying cockroaches, and tiny sloths all live here.

The third layer is the understory layer, also called the sapling layer, located above the shrub layer. It is between 5 and 20 meters high and consists of shrubs and medium-sized tree seedlings and saplings.

Because the vegetation is relatively tall and provides less shade, this area receives more sunlight, with an average daily sunshine duration of 4 to 6 hours, making it relatively less dangerous.

On this level, the intertwined branches of many trees form aerial walkways, creating a net-like area that is detached from the ground in the densely wooded region.

The uppermost layer is the canopy layer, located above the understory layer, with a height between 20 and 60 meters. It consists entirely of tall trees, such as Hopea trees and rubber trees.

Their canopies connect to form a continuous "green roof," which is the highest point of the rainforest.
