A brave man may not live, but he cannot die

Chapter 99 The World's Dream

Chapter 99 The World's Dream
"The abyss, this is something you should have learned in your history class at the end of your first year."

Not only the four students, but even Quinn was listening attentively.

"You can find this name in the scriptures of various religious cults. The Vatican's 'Gospel of Creation' describes the abyss as 'the debris of the old days', the White Church's 'Apocalypse' describes it as 'the star of disaster', and the Holy Tree Cult's 'Golden Commandments' describes it as 'beyond this world'."

The students were bewildered. Amamiya Nene raised a striking brow and said, "I don't want to dwell on academic matters. You haven't laid a solid theoretical foundation yet, and you wouldn't understand an analysis of the components of the abyss. So, I'll use the words of the brave Merlin to summarize."

"[The abyss is a dream of this world.]"

"Dream?" repeated the lame Adolf, frowning.

"Let's take people as an example—"

Amemiya Ningning took the magic wand and started drawing on the blackboard.

Her drawing skills are surprisingly good, and she drew a cute little figure in the style of a girl's manga.

"For example, if this person's name is Tamilan, the Western Continent is her hands, the Northern Continent is her feet, and Eswell is her belly button."

She tapped all over the little man's body.

"Everything that can be felt and seen—the oceans, the nations, the habitations of men, nature and wilderness—is called reality."

"And what's hidden inside the body, the areas invisible to the naked eye, like internal organs and blood vessels, are the 'foundation' of reality. In the mystical world, this is called the 'inner side of the world.'"

"Like dungeons, sky cities, and fantasy realms. From the small spaces created by workshops to the vast kingdoms of the gods, and even the special dimension where the academy is located, all belong to the inner world."

Amemiya Ningning tapped the little man's brain.

"And here, the most important part of the world, the place that determines the fundamental operation of the world. The dream it produces is the abyss."

Looking at the students' confused expressions, Amamiya Ningning put away her wand.

Quinn wondered why you spoke like a riddle.

"Well, it doesn't matter if you don't understand. The professor of the arcane foundation department will teach you slowly in due time. The so-called Forbidden Forest Trial is to let you dive into the abyss - a very shallow depth, so that even if something goes wrong, you can be pulled out immediately."

Amamiya Ningning smiled slightly and said, "You'll understand when you go in and take a look."

Celia raised her hand.

"Teacher Ningning, you said the abyss is a dream of the world. So when we dive into the abyss, are we entering this dream?"

"good question."

Amamiya Ningning corrected him, "The word 'enter' isn't accurate. It's more like being 'sucked in'. The intruder will become part of the dream."

"Then why did the brave Merlin seal the entrance to the abyss? There's no mention of this in the legend of Merlin."

Celia was very familiar with the stories of the heroes.

In all the legends of heroes, not only is there no content about sealing the abyss, there is not even any content related to the abyss.

The vast majority of ordinary people will never come across the word "abyss" in their lifetime. It is more like a strange term that only appears in the scriptures of theology.

"I just said that the abyss is a dream."

Amamiya Ningning said quietly: "If dreams overflow, reality will be confused with dreams, and people will drown in dreams."

She shook her wand, and the little figure representing Tamilan on the blackboard was completely wiped out, leaving only dots of pink dust.

“Then the world would be over.”

Quinn's eyes narrowed slightly.

Is the Abyss Sequence the "overflowing dream"?
The two Abyss Sequences he currently knew were named "Greed" and "Jealousy", neither of which sounded like good things.

"Everyone, don't worry. In fact, our teachers in each department have some special skills. They can ensure that you return safely from the abyss."

Amamiya Ningning glanced at the four students and found that except for Celia, no one else seemed very nervous.

"What's your special skill?"

Adolf asked curiously.

"Each department has its own specialties. For example, the Arcane Fundamentals department teaches spells that increase mental strength, the Alchemy department prepares potions against the Abyss, and the Demon Defense department has pollution resistance spells. As for our department, that's divination, of course."

"Divination?"

The four of them showed puzzled expressions at the same time. Seven, who had been exposed to the arcane since childhood, asked puzzledly:
"What use is divination in the abyss?"

"Not for use in the abyss, but for use now."

Amamiya Ningning said proudly: "I will help you hang it. If you are still fine after ten days, it means you can get out of the forbidden forest alive."

".What if he died?"

The four looked at her nervously.

"Then take sick leave."

Amamiya Ningning spread her hands and said, "I'm just not going. A 100% survival rate, isn't that much better than other systems?"

The four students looked as if they were about to be tested. It was truly a masterful skill. Quinn gave a thumbs-up. Avoidance might be shameful, but it worked, right?

"Since it's a divination related to the abyss..."

Amamiya Ningning thought for a moment and said, "Quinn, go to the teaching office and help me apply for some materials so that I can show off my skills to my dear students."

"what material?"

"Star Flower." Amamiya Nene gestured, "It's a blue flower. As for the quantity, one per person will be enough."

Quinn nodded calmly.

"it is good."

Grindelwald's teaching office is on the first floor of the castle, on the left side of the hall.

Quinn had passed this unremarkable arched wooden door several times. The dark door was engraved with hieroglyphs that he could not understand, and it seemed as heavy as a relic from ancient times.

He rang the bell hanging at the door, and soon the wooden door silently opened inward.

After passing through a not-so-long passage, the view suddenly opened up.

Quinn stood blankly in front of the huge space with a height of nearly twenty meters. Is this the teaching department?
A huge sign hung on the dome: [Arcane is the art of spending money].

"Damn Minions?"

In a space roughly the size of an airport hangar, hundreds of Minion-like creatures worked, carried, and moved around in miniaturized office cubicles.
They are about 30 to 40 centimeters tall, with bodies the size of soybeans, human-like hands and feet, and a pair of huge eyes. They wear overalls and diving goggles.
"Oh, did Mr. Cavendish tell you their names?"

Jacob landed on his broom.

"What is this?" Quinn asked in surprise.

Not to mention, it’s quite cute.

"This is the Minion, the familiar created by Principal Merlin."

Jacob explained, "They reproduce asexually, possess exceptional intelligence, and share a common mind. Aside from a somewhat mean streak, they possess no flaws. Minions can travel through the spirit world—something only spirit beings can do. While their speed is somewhat slow, they can still travel between the East and South Continents in just half a day."

Quinn followed Jacob down the stairs.

"The Minions collect treasures from all over the world for the Academy—the latest arcane knowledge, discoveries from the ancient era, and even any extraordinary relics worth researching. As long as someone is willing to sell, the Academy is willing to buy them no matter the price."

Quinn looked at the stacked tan office cubicles in amazement. They looked like miniature sets. The ordinary human-sized space could accommodate four Minions to work. The desks were piled with documents and typewriters, and the sound of keyboards clacking was endless.

It reminded him of the TVA office in the Netflix series "Rocky," which had the busy feel of a giant archive.

"For things like knowledge, the Minions will record it locally and then print it out back at the academy. For example, Arcane Workshops, aristocratic families, Arcane Minions, and Arcane Academies around the world can publish documents in as little as an hour."

Jacob slightly sideways to make way for a hurriedly running Minion.

Quinn noticed that at the end of the teaching center, there were many entrances and exits to the pipes. The Minions jumped in like Mario, and Minions kept falling from above.

"Is that the entrance to the spirit world?" Quinn asked, pointing at the pipes.

Jacob nodded proudly.

"There are no more than ten such stably open entrances to the spirit world in the world. However, humans cannot enter. The academy's spatial dimension is somewhat special. Once you enter, you cannot bounce back to reality and will be directly shattered by the spirit world storm."

He saw some Minions walking by pushing carts loaded with large and small cardboard boxes.

"Is this the treasure they bought from all over the world?"

"Yes and no. The Minions are only about as strong as children, so they can't carry items in the spirit world. Usually, they place an order, and then a specialist from the school office or the teaching office picks up the goods, which are then transported back to the academy by train. These are the items that are brought back, and they're delivered to the teachers in need."

"what is it used for?"

"Research."

Jacob said calmly, "The teaching department must ensure that the academy's knowledge is up-to-date and comprehensive. As for how to teach that knowledge, it's up to the teachers themselves. Of course, we will also provide you with some assistance when needed."

He was holding a material application form in his hand, which was stuffed into the mailbox by Amemiya Ningning and sent to the teaching department.

"Normally, if you need materials for teaching or experiments, you just put them in the mailbox and the Minions will push them to you. However, some controlled materials require the teacher to come and pick them up in person."

He led Quinn to a row of tall metal safes. There was a stone sculpture of an eyeless toad with its mouth wide open. Jacob stuffed the material application form into the sculpture's mouth and said as he waited:
"Things like mind pollution, ingredients for extraordinary potions, and living substances—you know, there are so many dangerous things in arcane research. And then there's the Star Flower that Professor Cavendish requested this time—although it's not dangerous, it's a material that needs to be controlled for certain reasons."

Quinn pretended to be puzzled and asked, "Some reason requires control?"

Jacob shrugged.

"Sorry, my friend, school rules require me to keep certain taboos secret. Of course, if one day you are promoted to a teacher, or even a professor, you can use your privileges to access the school history library. Here we are."

After verifying Amamiya Nene's application, the stone toad extended its large, bright red tongue, which jutted out. Jacob pressed his hand against it, letting the stone sculpture feel his magic. After double verification, the bottom door of the safe popped open.

A beam of fluorescent light, so blue that it was almost dazzling, leaked out in vain.
