Chapter 156 Captain Tachikawa

"What makes her qualified to be the team leader?!"

Soi Fon was so angry she almost jumped up and down. Although Chojiro was accompanied by members of the First Division, she said this directly to his face.

Chojiro Sasaki said helplessly, "Captain Soi Fon, Shin Tachikawa was recommended by six captains, and he himself has the ability to serve as captain. He has also passed the agreement of the Captain-Commander and the Central 46. Everything is in accordance with the rules."

Shin walked out of the prison unharmed, following behind Chojiro Sasakibe.

Soi Fon's face changed from pale to ashen as she stood there, but she gritted her teeth and followed.

Upon arriving at the First Division barracks, Shin was separated from Soi Fon. He was first taken to another room by Chojiro Sasakibe.

Chojiro Sasaki took out a pure white captain's haori with a cross embroidered on the back.

Shin stared at the clothes in Chojiro's hand for a long time, then let out a sigh of inexplicable emotion, took them, and put them on.

The clothes were rather large and didn't quite fit Shin's youthful body. Looking at Shin's appearance, Sparrow felt a pang of emotion.

He had served as vice-captain for a thousand years, but to become a captain just two years after graduation is a unique achievement for a Grim Reaper.

Chojiro bowed slightly to the letter.

Xin grinned and chuckled, "Thank you too, Vice Captain of the Sparrow Division."

Although Chojiro Sasaki is the most senior, he is still only the vice-captain in rank. His bow to Shin is a formal recognition of Shin's future superior status.

The captains of the Gotei 13 are already among the very few people at the pinnacle of power in the entire Soul Society.

Chojiro Sasaki smiled and said to Shin, "Because of the special circumstances, your captain's haori wasn't custom-made. You can have the size altered later. Also, just a reminder, although there's no written requirement, the Captain-Commander doesn't really like captains altering their haoris to be too fancy. Of course, if you really don't like this traditional style, you can make changes on your own without any problem. At most, the Captain-Commander will say a few words to you. Chojiro Suzaku hesitated for a moment before saying, "I overheard your conversation with the Captain-Commander outside. The Captain-Commander isn't what you think. He was just being kind to you and Captain Unohana. Many things can't be judged solely by their outcome. I hope you can understand and not have any prejudice against the Captain-Commander."

“I understand, Vice Captain of the Sparrow Division,” Xin said slowly.

"That's good." Sparrow smiled.

“The vice-captain of the Sparrow Division is a senior I respect very much. It feels strange not having to use honorifics with him anymore,” Xin said.

Chojiro Suzaku simply smiled and said, "The captains should already be waiting for you."

"it is good."

He pushed open the door and walked out alone.

The First Squad's barracks was unusually quiet. Copper bells hung from the eaves of this thousand-year-old barracks, causing a slight metallic tremor when the wind blew.

As he walked through the corridor, a figure stood at the corner, seemingly waiting for him. Matsumoto Rangiku.

Her gaze toward the letter was complex, a mixture of melancholy, relief, and contentment.

The sky was clear and blue, and early cherry blossoms fell like fine snow in the courtyard. The daytime was mild.

Xin stepped forward, stopped in front of her, and said with a smile, "It's been a long time, dear sister."

Matsumoto Rangiku looked at Shin's attire, but she wasn't annoyed by his flippant greeting. Her thoughts immediately drifted back to the time when she first met Shin in Rukongai.

Compared to then, Shin hasn't changed much in appearance, except that he smiles more often.

She wasn't against Shin being the new captain of the 10th Division, but recent events had left her feeling melancholy.

After a moment of silence, Matsumoto Rangiku suddenly felt an impulse and reached out to ruffle Shin's hair haphazardly.

"You little rascal, you've really made your sister proud!"

Xin looked displeased. "I'm your captain now."

Matsumoto Rangiku laughed upon hearing this, then composed herself slightly and said, "Yes, Captain, please."

Now I'm the captain, and I will be for a long time to come.

She was moved but didn't express it further, stepping aside to make way.

Shin's gaze finally settled on Retsu Unohana.

Unohana Retsu stood there quietly, like a statue. She didn't look over, as if she was resting.

Unlike Byakuya Kuchiki's nonchalance, she seemed to have detached herself from this world.

This was the first time Shin had seen Retsu Unohana since that battle.

As Shin gazed at her, Unohana Retsu seemed to sense something, her eyebrows twitching slightly as she glanced in Shin's direction.

Her entire demeanor has changed dramatically. She has lost much of her approachable gentleness, becoming as calm as a pool of clear water, and more distant from others.

Retsu Unohana's peripheral vision mirrored her temperament, but in the instant her eyes met Shin's, a glint suddenly lit up in her eyes.

Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni tapped the floor lightly with his wooden cane.

"Tachikawa Shin, from this day forward, you will be the captain of the 10th Division of the Gotei 13. I hope you will be self-disciplined, cautious, and avoid arrogance and impetuosity, and live up to the haori you wear."
