Chapter 5 Village Guardian

The village chief's hands were shaking slightly. He smoked his pipe and tried hard to control his composure so as not to be rude.

"Brother Chu, thank you for helping me bring back my poor grandson." After a long time, the village chief said this again.

The village chief's mind was in a mess at this time, and he had already said words of gratitude several times.

"It's getting late. If you don't mind, Brother Chu, I have a room in my house where you can stay for the night."

"After I have taken care of my grandson's funeral, I will thank Brother Chu properly!" The village chief glanced at the sky. It was now completely dark.

Even if Chu Danqing didn't help, he couldn't really kick the person out.

When he came here before, Chu Danqing had already shown him the travel permit, proving that he was from a good family.

"I just agreed shamelessly, otherwise I really would have nowhere to go tonight." Of course Chu Danqing couldn't refuse.

Ancient times, night, and wilderness, these three words together have nothing to do with safety.

"By the way, I will hand these two beasts over to the village chief." Chu Danqing said, pointing to the two wolf corpses hanging in the corner of the wall.

His behavior was equivalent to directly raising the favorability of the village chief and his family to respect.

"I won't be polite. I wish I could grind these two beasts into dust!" The anger in the village chief's words was noticed even by the mentally challenged Dabao.

Dabao, who was eating, shrank his head, and his huge body looked a little funny.

"Jiang Tu, please help me deal with these two beasts. Keep the wolf skin and bones for me. When the time comes, you can stew the meat and share it with everyone."

The village chief looked at Jiang Tu who was eating for free.

"Don't worry, village chief. With my skills, I guarantee that I can remove it cleanly for you!" Jiang Tu immediately stood up and patted his chest to make a promise.

"I trust you to do the job." The village chief nodded. His idea was very simple. These two beasts ate his grandson, so he wanted to make these two beasts receive the same retribution.

As for this seeming a bit taboo, I really don't care about it.

"Then, little brother Chu, have dinner first. Tonight..." The village chief said this and glanced at Dabao: "Jiang Tu, Dabao will go back and spend the night with you so as not to disturb you, little brother."

Before Jiang Tu could respond, Chu Danqing spoke first: "Village Chief, this is not right. I'm just staying here temporarily. How can I squeeze into Brother Dabao's bed?"

"If he doesn't mind, I can live with him."

Chu Danqing was indeed embarrassed to take up someone else's seat, and secondly, he had his own little thoughts.

Without saying too much, the fighting power of Dabao, the village guard, is visible to the naked eye. If something really happens at night, he can ask the other party to take care of him.

"No, no, I want to live in the same room with Brother Chu." Dabao quickly swallowed the food in his mouth and said the first time.

There is only one room in Jiang Tu's house. It is better to squeeze with Chu Danqing than to sleep with Jiang Tu. At least she is more pleasing to the eye than Jiang Tu.

"You don't mind it? It's good enough that Brother Chu doesn't look down on you." Jiang Tu was blocked by the two of them and didn't know what to say.

Seeing this, the village chief wanted to say something, but Chu Danqing took the lead and said there was no need to bother.

Due to Chu Danqing's attitude, he didn't continue to persuade her.

"Then I'd like to trouble Brother Chu to take care of Dabao at night." The village chief also gave a heads-up in advance.

After finishing dinner, Jiang Tu wiped his mouth and went back with the two wolf corpses on his shoulder.

The village chief's eldest son brought a set of bedding and came to the side room with Chu Danqing and Dabao.

After helping with the cooking, he left.

The village chief and his family would surely be unable to sleep tonight, whether from the funeral preparations or simply from their grief. Inside, Dabao stared at the bed with a somewhat aggrieved expression, which, combined with his size and appearance, made Chu Danqing feel a bit amused.

"Okay, Dabao, you sleep on the bed and I'll sleep on the floor." Chu Danqing didn't mind whether he slept on the bed or on the floor.

"But Dadezi told you to sleep." Dabao was tempted, but didn't dare to act.

"It's okay, just say I asked you to sleep. He will just scold me then." Chu Danqing coaxed Dabao.

He could see that Dabao's mental age was probably no more than five years old, just like a little child.

With his words, Dabao was of course very happy.

The two of them quickly exchanged beds. After this action, Dabao suddenly became much more relaxed towards Chu Danqing and talked more.

Chu Danqing also learned a lot about Dabao during the conversation.

Dabao's mother got pregnant before marriage, and his father didn't know who the mother was. After giving birth to Dabao, he went crazy and went into the back mountain and never came back.

Dabao was born with intellectual disabilities and grew up relying on food and clothes from hundreds of families in the village.

He was also very hardworking and managed to grow to such a big body. Apart from his poor brain and low mental status, he was healthy and strong and lived up to the villagers' support.

Chu Danqing also asked indirectly about the White Dragon Fish and the Fallen Flower Cave, and Dabao described them as bad things and a black hole.

The two chatted quietly, and Chu Danqing didn't know when he fell asleep.

It was not until the second half of the night that he vaguely heard the crying of a baby.

"Whose child is this? What's going on in the middle of the night?" Chu Danqing covered his head with the quilt and was halfway through complaining when he suddenly realized his situation.

At this moment, he woke up immediately.

Unfortunately, he had no way of confirming the exact time. He could only infer from the angle of the moonlight projected into the house that there was still quite a while before dawn.

Then his eyes immediately turned to Dabao.

The reason why I suspect it was Dabao is, firstly, because of Dabao’s own intelligence, and secondly, it was mentioned in the trial mission.

Fortunately, it wasn't him, and he slept very soundly.

As he calmed down and investigated further, he heard the sound coming from outside the house.

"Wow~Wow~"

Chu Danqing's heart couldn't help but tighten. He was sure that the baby's crying was approaching.

And there is a high probability that the target will be him.

After taking a quick look around, he found that there was really nothing he could use to protect himself, and he was wondering whether he should wake up Dabao.

Just as I was thinking, there was a strange rustling sound from the tiles on the roof, as if some four-legged creature was crawling.

He couldn't help but glance over and saw a dark shadow with a familiar head poking out from the eaves.

"Ah? Giant salamander???" As Chu Danqing majored in paleontology, he recognized it at the first sight.

The problem is that normal giant salamanders don't have necks that grow like snakes.

On the other side, Dabao, who was sleeping soundly, suddenly opened his eyes and sat up.

A ferocious aura emanated from his entire body, and his beast-like eyes no longer had the clarity they had before.
