Chapter 486 The City of Eternal Night

Chapter 486 The City of Eternal Night

Compared to the chaotic and disorderly ancient sea, which was entirely governed by the law of the jungle, the City of Eternal Night seemed to possess a certain degree of order.

Roy noticed that there were guards at the gate of Eternal Night City, and it seemed that a city fee was collected.

This is a bit troublesome. We don't know what the entrance fee for Eternal Night City is, but we can be sure it won't be in US dollars.

Forcing their way in isn't out of the question, but this is ultimately Belial's territory, and Roy doesn't want things to get too ugly.

Unfortunately, after Roy was reborn from the ashes, Belial's mark completely disappeared. Otherwise, Roy could still contact Belial through the mark, and there would be no need for such trouble.

"Mr. Scepter, do you know what the entrance fee is for the City of Eternal Night?"

"I'm not too sure about that. Lord Belial and I haven't discussed this matter."

Come to think of it, how could the mighty King of Sloth possibly worry about the city entrance fee?

"Forget it, let's just go and take a look!"

There are demons queuing up on the stone bridge, only a few hundred in number.

Roy, holding Elreza's hand, blended into the group.

In the City of Eternal Night, the variety of demons is significantly greater, unlike the Ancient Sea where they are mostly reptiles or amphibians.

You can see common red-skinned demons, minotaurs, hellhounds, and even Medusa.

Roy was quite surprised that these different kinds of demons were able to line up in such an orderly manner, without interfering with each other.

However, there were some rule-breakers. One red-skinned demon, who was over three meters tall, tried to cut in line when he saw the short Roy and Elareza.

Hey! You two little dwarfs, get out of my way!

The other demons merely glanced at it and acted as if nothing had happened.

Roy knew that there was no point in trying to make peace in Hell. In this dog-eat-dog world, backing down would only make everyone bite you. So he glanced around and pointed to himself.

Who are you calling a shorty?

The red-skinned demon rudely pointed his finger at Roy.

"Of course it's you, you piece of trash! You even brought a beautiful succubus with you. Give her to me too!"

Upon hearing this, Roy quickly transformed into his demon form. His current full form was about thirty meters tall, which was a bit too frightening, so he compressed his size to about ten meters.

Say what you just said again!

The red-skinned demon who wanted to cut in line was dumbfounded.

Low-level demons are actually similar to animals; their strength can be roughly judged by their size, unless they are certain special demon species, such as succubi.

Red-skinned demons are actually the most common type of demon in Hell. Roy's demon form is also of this type. Their combat power is basically determined by their physical attributes, so a ten-meter-tall figure is enough to crush a three-meter-tall red-skinned demon.

With a thud, the red-skinned demon who had cut in line immediately knelt on the ground.

"My lord, I was wrong! I was blind to your greatness! Please spare me!"

Roy's size had already attracted the attention of the city gate guards, and the surrounding demons had also begun to scrutinize him.

"roll!"

The red-skinned demon who wanted to cut in line actually rolled away, very obediently.

Then, Roy swept his fierce gaze across the demons who were eyeing him, and they immediately looked away.

Sure enough, in hell, might makes right, perfectly embodying the concept of "might makes right."

Since that's the case, Roy will stay in his demon form and continue queuing, which will save him a lot of trouble.

It just feels a bit cool down there, and it's not very convenient to swing around like that because my pants have ripped again.

Fortunately, many of the demons on site were also naked, otherwise it would have been too embarrassing.

Before long, Roy reached the city gate, where the demon guards became exceptionally polite after seeing Roy's size.

"Sir, may I ask what brings you into the city?"

"Is there a problem with catching up with my friend?"

"Of course not! Please come in!"

The four-armed demon, who was over two meters tall, bowed and scraped to Roy.

"No city fee required?"

"Sir, please don't joke around! Someone like you certainly doesn't need an entrance fee! You just need to remember my name to get in!"

Roy witnessed once again the importance of power in demon society; perhaps the social structure of Hell is divided according to power.

There is no room for gentleness and humility to survive here; it is only a world of survival of the fittest, where the weak may even be devoured by the strong.

Nodding, Roy deliberately adopted an arrogant demeanor and signed his name in a notebook, writing his real name, Roy Black.

With Roy's current strength, anyone who tries to use his real name to get back at him will only end up getting themselves killed.

After successfully entering the City of Eternal Night, the interior of the city resembles a European city from the Renaissance period. However, due to the purple crystal as the light source, the entire city has a strange and dreamlike feel, making it look very unreal.

"Daddy, shall we go find Mother Elizabeth now?"

Roy nodded.

"Yes, let's go to the palace first."

She kicked the mushroom demon that was biting the cursed hair with its teeth. The little guy had become Elareza's pet, and the little succubus named it Little Pink.

Little Pink would always find ways to escape, so Roy had to make a rope from his cursed hair and put it around its neck, so that Elareza could lead it.

Belial's palace is located in the very center of Evernight City and is also the tallest building in the entire city. Roy and Elareza can simply walk along the main road to get there.

The demon guards on the royal city side looked more elite than those on the city gate side. They were all demons wearing full armor, and their height and build were very similar, giving them a very orderly appearance.

"You wish to see the King of Sloth?"

"Yes! May I inform you that Roy Black wishes to see the King of Sloth?"

A black-armored demon looked up at Roy. He really wanted to ask Roy what qualifications he had to meet the King of Sloth, but looking at Roy's height, he swallowed his words.

Yes, being big is really intimidating in hell.

"What business do you have with the King of Sloth? Not just anyone can see the King of Sloth!"

"I do have some things I want to report to the King of Sloth. As long as you mention my name, the King of Sloth will surely see me!"

Seeing Roy speak with such confidence, the black-armored demon dared not be presumptuous and nodded in agreement.

"I can report it for you, but if the king doesn't want to see you after hearing your name, then there's nothing I can do."

"That will absolutely not happen!"

The black-armored demon turned and went into the palace to report. After a long time, the black-armored demon brought back bad news.

"My lord is not in his bedchamber. Please come again another time!" "Not in his bedchamber? When will the King of Sloth return?"

At this point, the black-armored demon was clearly getting impatient, and his voice became gruff.

"How could I possibly know when my king would return? If I did, would I still be here guarding the gate?"

Reasonable and convincing!
Roy had no choice but to take his leave.

"Dad, what should we do now?"

Elareza looked at Roy, who actually wanted to let Belial know he was safe, otherwise he could have directly passed through the rock layer and entered the sixth level of Hell.

"Then let's wait for Teacher Elizabeth in Eternal Night City. I wonder where Teacher Elizabeth went."

So here's the question: if you want to stay in Eternal Night City temporarily, you'll definitely need money.

Roy needs to make some money now, or he'll be homeless.

After thinking about it for a moment, I realized that since Eternal Night City already had a basic order, there should be jobs available, right?
I wonder if there's a labor market. If there is, Roy will be relieved of this worry.

"Let's go find a job first!"

After touring the City of Eternal Night, Roy discovered that the city actually only had the service industry and no manufacturing industry.

Because demons don't produce anything, they just steal what they want.

However, there is order within the city of Eternal Night. You cannot kill and rob here, so demons usually make money outside the city and then spend it inside.

Most of the demons queuing on the stone bridge were these demons, many of whom came from the sixth level of the Blood Battlefield.

The Bloodbath is a battlefield of endless battles. After the battles are over, the demons need somewhere to relax. The third layer of hell, Dream Bubble, is too far away, so they choose to spend their time in Eternal Night City.

This news made Roy realize that the passage between the sixth and seventh circles of hell was a well-known passage, which was good news.

However, there was another piece of bad news: Roy couldn't find a job at all. The jobs in Evernight City were already filled.

The only way Roy could make money was to kill a local demon and steal his job.

Of course, another option is to pawn the ornate scepter; it looks quite valuable.

"Wait! Mr. Blake, are you serious? You don't really want to fail me, do you?"

Elareza winked at the magnificent scepter.

"Dad isn't really going to abandon you. He'll definitely bring you back once he gets the money!"

"No! I am a scepter with an independent personality and dignity! I will never accept being sold like a commodity!"

Roy scratched his head. He wasn't Leviathan; he wouldn't threaten to send the magnificent scepter to Old Eight's canteen if it didn't agree.

As for the other pet, Little Pink, it's worthless. Roy saw many farmed mushroom demons outside the demon area, and it probably wouldn't even be worth a dinner.

Finally, Roy touched his inventory, preparing to exchange the items for money.

The most abundant places in Eternal Night City are various consumer venues, including restaurants, nightclubs, and hotels, followed by pawnshops that accept and sell goods.

Many demons who have stolen things will sell their belongings at pawnshops and use the Night City currency to spend in the city.

After wandering around the City of Evernight, Roy found the best-looking pawnshop and upon entering, he discovered that his body had shrunk.

It seems there's some kind of magic at the entrance that can make everyone who enters a standard height, preventing certain demons from being too tall or too short.

"Welcome, my friend! Is there anything you'd like to sell?"

Roy saw a counter similar to the one at the East University Pawnshop, heavily protected, with faint magical patterns visible, and only a small gap through which one could see.

The speaker was a little devil with red skin. No wonder there was a magic spell at the entrance that could adjust the size of creatures. If Roy, who was ten meters tall, walked in, he might not have been able to see this little devil.

It seems that pawn shops or pawn stores all over the world design their counters to be very high, and at this moment, the little devil sitting on the counter looks superior.

"I want to sell you some things, can you help me check the prices?"

Roy first took out two masks, one a ghost mask and the other Jason's hockey mask, and placed them on the counter.

These two items were no longer of any use to Roy, so he simply took them out to pay off the debt first. Anyway, once Belial returned, Roy would definitely be able to get the money to redeem the items.

The little devil reached out and pulled the two masks in front of him, then took out a monocle and began to examine them.

"Oh, yes, very interesting magic."

The monocle seemed to be able to see the magic contained in the objects, and the little devil took it off after observing it for a while.

"These two items are very interesting, but the magic on them is very ordinary. I'm afraid I can't offer you a high price."

Roy was actually prepared for this; the ghost mask and Jason's hockey mask were indeed very ordinary and wouldn't be suitable for him at all.

"How much can it sell for?"

"10 Night Coins!"

Night Coins are the currency of the City of Night. They are made using amethyst with anti-counterfeiting magic and have very strong purchasing power.

Five Night Coins are enough for a demon to have a hearty meal in the Night City, but more services will cost more Night Coins.

Roy frowned slightly. Although 10 Night Coins was lower than his estimated price, that's how pawnshops operate; they can't possibly pay the market price. He was already somewhat prepared for that.

Then Roy took out another thing: the Seed of Silence.

This thing had been of little use to Roy, so he decided to pawn it.

"This stuff is quite dangerous, so it's best to avoid direct skin contact."

Roy's constitution means he doesn't need to worry about the Seed of Silence, but Imp's might be a different story.

The little devil looked at Roy suspiciously, then wrapped the Seed of Silence in a cloth with a magic circle drawn on it and held it in front of him. He then began to observe it again through his monocle.

However, the Seed of Silence comes from the universe, most likely the Dark Universe, and the Imp wouldn't recognize it at all.

"This looks like the egg of some kind of creature?"

"More or less. This is something I obtained by chance outside of hell; it's extremely rare."

The little devil was a bit unsure, so he tentatively offered a price.

"50 Night Coins?"

Roy slammed his hand on the counter.

"What are you talking about? This is a unique creature egg found only in Hell! How could it only be worth 50 Night Coins! Give it back to me, I'll sell it at another pawn shop!"

Perhaps Roy's imposing aura was too overwhelming, because the little devil hesitated for a moment before quickly speaking.

"Sir, please wait a moment while I go find an expert to take a look! I'll be right back!"

With that, the little devil put down his monocle, flapped his wings, and flew inside.
