American Horror Story, Starting from Falls Town
Chapter 471 Black Lake
Chapter 471 Black Lake
Holden's RV was in front, leading another RV into a tunnel.
Nidi looked at the long tunnel in surprise.
"Huh? Why would someone build a tunnel in this desolate wilderness?"
Lani, the guide, was quite carefree and didn't care at all.
"Who knows? Maybe some important person lives in the mountains, so they built this tunnel?"
To be honest, this tunnel is really outrageous, as is this highway.
Given America's infrastructure, it's impossible to build a tunnel and a highway specifically for a mountain resort.
As you can see, the quality of this highway is quite good, comparable to the asphalt roads in big city centers.
(It's quite absurd in the movie; there's a tunnel and a very well-maintained highway in the middle of nowhere. If you didn't know better, you'd think there was a gold mine behind the tunnel.)
However, no one thought too much about it and simply enjoyed the natural scenery around them.
After passing through the tunnel, we can say that we have entered the Baishan Mountains. The natural scenery here is very beautiful, with tall, ancient trees stretching as far as the eye can see.
There seem to be fewer wild animals around, which could be because the noise from the cars scared away the small animals.
"Look! Isn't that Black Lake?"
Ashley suddenly pointed excitedly out the window and saw a huge lake appear beside the road.
The lake is a very deep color, and under the setting sun, it creates a unique halo that is very beautiful.
Mara glanced at the scenery outside the window and smiled.
"Yes, that's Black Lake! Black Lake is very large. We are currently on the west side of Black Lake, where the terrain is relatively flat and more suitable for sightseeing. If we had gone up the mountain from the east side of Black Lake as originally planned, we probably wouldn't have been able to enjoy the scenery."
"It's so beautiful!"
Several beautiful women exclaimed in admiration, and even Jennifer thought that coming to Black Lake was a great idea.
This kind of natural scenery is not something you can see just anywhere.
Mara continued to act as a tour guide, introducing the various activities to everyone.
"I visited the west side of Black Lake a long time ago. There's a very delicious fish in this lake. If we have time, we can catch a few for everyone to try!"
Upon hearing this, everyone immediately became interested.
Although the American people rarely eat river fish, otherwise the carp wouldn't have become a plague in the Great Lakes, Mara said it was very delicious, and everyone would definitely want to try it.
"Great idea! We can have grilled fish tonight! But we don't think we bought any fishing gear?"
Mara answered Claire.
"No fishing gear is needed. There are fewer people coming to the west side of Black Lake, so there are a lot of fish in the lake. We'll just put some bait to attract the fish, and then we'll make a wooden fork to spear them."
"You guys know how to make this?"
Amy looked at Mara in surprise. She had only ever seen people from primitive tribes use this skill on TV. After all, the man at the top of the food chain hadn't officially appeared online yet.
"Of course! You definitely need to know some survival skills to survive in the wild!"
This topic piqued the interest of Neddy and Claire, and the two began to ask Mara some questions about wilderness survival.
During a pleasant chat, the two RVs finally arrived at their destination: a wooden cabin located by Black Lake.
"Hoden, this cabin doesn't seem very big. Can it accommodate so many people?"
Martin was still puffing on his cigarette, looking at Holden with a dazed expression.
This cabin is actually quite spacious, so it must have been designed for a family vacation, as it has quite a few rooms.
If there were only five people, one room would have been enough for each of them.
The problem is that with Jennifer and Neddy, there are fifteen people in total, and the cabin is not big enough.
Kurt shrugged.
"There's no other way, so the ladies will have to stay in the cabins, and the three of us will stay in the campervan!"
Chris Hemsworth is quite a gentleman. Although he looks burly like a sports student, he actually has excellent academic performance and a kind personality.
Holden, on the other hand, looks refined but is actually an athlete, and quite a bit of a player at that.
While the blonde Angelina Jolie appears more outgoing, she is actually a conservative Catholic who firmly believes that sexual activity should only occur after marriage, which is why her boyfriend Chris Hemsworth has never succeeded.
Dina, the red-haired girl, may seem like a well-behaved girl, but she's actually more of a playboy than Holden, though Holden doesn't know it.
As for Martin, who smokes all day long, he is the best student among the five, a true academic star. He may not be as good as Nydy, but he is not far behind.
(The character design has been modified)
All five of these people had personalities that didn't match their outward appearances, which led to what happened later.
Diana quickly went to talk to Mary and Claire about where to stay for the night.
In reality, even if two women slept in each room, there still weren't enough bedrooms in the cabin.
Fortunately, the group found that the living room inside the cabin was quite large, and they decided that the girls would sleep on makeshift beds on the floor in the living room while the three boys would sleep in the rooms.
Jennifer and her friends originally planned to go camping in the mountains, so they brought a lot of sleeping bags, which was just enough after sharing them.
Sleeping in a log cabin is slightly more comfortable than in a motorhome or tent; at least a log cabin has a fireplace where you can warm yourself.
Although it's July and summer, Maine is at a relatively high latitude, and the area is located in the White Mountain region, so the temperature is still quite low at night.
"Hmph! You're getting off too easy!"
Julie glared at the three men. She actually preferred to sleep in the comfortable bedroom, but since the other ladies weren't planning to sleep in the bedroom, she couldn't make an exception for them.
The blonde woman may be a bit of a playboy, but she's not exactly stupid.
The three men present could only chuckle awkwardly in response.
Julie became increasingly upset.
"What are you laughing at? Don't you know how to offer to help carry your gear? Do you expect us to move our sleeping bags and food into the cabin?"
Kurt immediately understood and pulled Holden along to do the hard labor, while Martin squinted and puffed on his cigarette, as if he hadn't heard anything.
"Come here too!"
Kurt wasn't about to let Martin off the hook, and he pulled him out of the cabin.
"I'll do it myself,"
Jennifer doesn't actually want men to touch her things; she's a germaphobe.
However, Kurt and Holden were both very enthusiastic, meaning Martin had no intention of trying to curry favor with them, because he realized that he couldn't possibly win over any of these ten beautiful women.
"It's alright, it's alright, we'll take care of it!"
Julie stepped forward at this moment.
"Sisters, let them go and move it! Let's go see the famous Black Lake before the sun completely sets!"
The suggestion was approved by all the ladies, so Jennifer had no choice but to join the group and go to the lake.
Black Lake is not far from the cabins, and there is a small pier here that offers a panoramic view of the lake.
In the afterglow of the setting sun, the reflections on the surface of Black Lake can be seen, a scene so beautiful it's like a fairyland, leaving the ladies mesmerized.
"It's like a fairyland!" Heather exclaimed.
"If only we had a boat, it would be so much better to be rowing on Black Lake right now!"
Penny's words resonated with many women.
At this moment, Ashley, who was craving something sweet, remembered what the two female guides had said earlier.
"Mara, didn't we say we were going to catch some Black Lake fish? Why don't we get started now?"
The ladies became interested when they heard that they would be fishing with wooden forks in the way of primitive tribes.
First, Lanny and Mara made some rough bait and sprinkled it on the lake. Then, the two of them whittled two wooden forks to spear the fish.
However, everyone seems to be having bad luck today; after all that effort, they haven't seen a single fish.
"Strange! I remember there were so many fish here last time I came! I caught five fish in an hour!"
Mara scratched her head a little, but catching fish is a very mysterious thing, maybe she was destined to fail today.
Finally, after the sun had completely set, the three men came out to call for help, and the group returned to the cabin.
By this time, the cabin was already quite well-furnished, and it seemed that Kurt and Holden had put in some effort. Martin, in particular, was lying on the sofa as if he was about to collapse from exhaustion.
"Fuck! Only beer can save my life right now!"
"Beer's here!"
The tall and burly Kurt carried a large case of beer from the RV; it was chilled, with steam rising from the bottles.
"Ha! Luckily we prepared enough beer, otherwise it wouldn't be enough to go around!"
Holden looked at the beer crates with a smug expression. It goes without saying what he was planning to do with so much beer.
However, the ladies on Jennifer Neddy's side weren't interested in drinking with Kurt Holden and his group.
"Let's make dinner first! Keller, Heather, Mary, Amy, the task of making dinner is in your hands."
Jennifer immediately assigned tasks to everyone.
"no problem!"
Keller is a five-star chef, something Roy experienced when he visited her home last time (Chapter 144), so she was chosen to be the head chef.
Amy had been a housewife for several years and could cook.
As for Heather and Mary, both of them are interested in cooking and have cooked at home quite often. The three of them can help Keller.
The ladies prepared a wide variety of ingredients, and soon produced a series of delicious and visually appealing dishes that were served from the kitchen, much to the amazement of Dana and Julie.
"Oh my god! Ashley, is your friend a chef?"
Ashley wasn't actually very familiar with Keller, and Mary explained this to Dana.
"No! Keller is the editor-in-chief of the Los Angeles Times; he's just very interested in cooking and enjoys researching it."
Upon hearing this, Julie was speechless.
"Just because you like researching, you can achieve this level? I've taken baking classes for so many years, and my desserts still look like chemical waste? Wait, aren't they UCLA students?"
Julie seemed to have just realized that these women were not her classmates, even though they all looked young and no different from female college students.
At this moment, Claire realized that she hadn't properly introduced her companions yet, so she quickly did so.
"No! But Keller is our senior; she graduated from the media studies department in 90. Claire is too, and she even has a PhD in psychology!"
Upon hearing this, Diana was very surprised, because she was also a psychology major.
"Oh my god, are you Claire Sheffield? I know you! You've always been a legend in our department, completing in three years what others take ten!"
Julie then realized that Mary and Claire's group of companions were full of hidden talents.
Then, Jennifer, Neddy, and Ashley introduced themselves; they were Diana and Julie's juniors.
Diana also recognized Nidi, because Nidi received a full scholarship last year and is considered a well-known genius student at UCLA.
The remaining three are Heather, Penny, and Amy, none of whom are UCLA alumni or students from any prestigious university.
But since she was able to hang out with Kelly, she must not be an ordinary person, so Dana and Julie were very polite to her.
Soon, Julie discovered that Heather and Penny owned a large laboratory.
"Alright, all the dishes are served, let's start eating!"
By this time, it was completely dark, and the seventeen people sat down at the long table to begin their meal.
"It's rare for us to get together today, shall we have a drink first?"
Just before we started, Martin suddenly said something like this.
Upon hearing this, Kurt's eyes lit up.
"Great idea! Let's have a drink first!"
"Okay, but we don't drink alcohol."
Just to be on the safe side, Jennifer still has no intention of drinking alcohol, not even beer.
"Coke is fine too, let's have a drink first!"
Martin, holding his can of beer, stood up and raised his glass. Everyone else stood up and clinked glasses, instantly enlivening the dinner atmosphere.
However, Jennifer Federico was drinking Coke, while Diana Jolie was drinking beer.
Oh, no, the two female guides were also drinking beer.
Everyone praised Chef Keller's culinary skills, which made Keller very happy.
The chef was happiest when his earnings were praised, but everyone also thanked Heather, Mary, and Amy. Without these three helpers, it would have been impossible to quickly prepare such a large feast.
Soon, after a hearty meal, the food on the long table was completely eaten. The two female guides offered to wash the dishes, while the remaining fifteen people chatted in the living room.
Kurt was mainly trying to win over Dina, while Holden was hitting walls everywhere he went, and Martin was sitting on a single sofa, smoking and watching Holden get thwarted and laughing like an idiot.
I don't know how long we chatted, but the grandfather clock in the living room suddenly rang.
Everyone looked at the clock and realized it was already 8 p.m.
"Is it so late?"
By this time, the two guides had finished washing the dishes and suggested that they get some rest.
"We need to get up early tomorrow morning to climb the mountain so we can reach the campsite before dark!"
Since most of the ten ladies have no experience in hiking and camping, it would be best to allow some time for them.
Julie and Holden felt a bit disappointed, but they had no choice but to stop chatting.
"Okay, then let's decorate the living room."
No sooner had Jennifer finished speaking than a piece of wooden flooring in the corner of the living room suddenly warped up.
(The main characters of The Cabin in the Woods, from left to right, represent the athlete Chris Hemsworth, the wise man with a buzz cut, the prostitute blonde, the foolish chain smoker, and the virgin redhead. In the movie, their identities represent the order of the sacrifice, but their true identities are actually reversed, so the sacrifice failed.)
