Chapter 312 Are you impotent?
"Was the person in charge of building this base corrupt?"

Jay rolled his eyes at Roy.

"Don't talk nonsense. This experimental base was built under the supervision of General Hammer when he was still a commodore."

Roy shrugged, neither confirming nor denying.

At this moment, the metal pipe made a cracking sound, and the cracks on it became more obvious, as if something was about to break out.

"Something's wrong! Back off!"

Roy immediately pulled the unwell Jay back.

Soon, the metal pipe burst open completely, releasing a large amount of red and yellow material.

To avoid being splashed by this substance, Roy used the super explosive power of his Ghost Wolf form to quickly retreat a large step while holding Jay.

Finally, the red and yellow substances fell onto the ground and the walls.

"Miss Jay, are you alright?"

"I—ugh, I'm fine! I'm just a little dizzy!"

Jay was the first person to enjoy being carried away by Roy's super explosive power as a ghost wolf, and judging from her reaction, it didn't seem to be a pleasant experience.

This is normal. Ghost Wolf's super explosive power can make Roy leap dozens of meters in an instant, which is much more exciting than any drop tower or bungee jump.

Jay's body was only slightly stronger than that of an average person, so he was naturally very uncomfortable when he first encountered this situation.

Fortunately, Jay managed to control her stomach and not vomit, otherwise vomiting while wearing a gas mask would have been unbearable for her.

Roy put Jay down to let her catch her breath, while he went to the red and yellow substance to examine what it was.

As you can see, this is a special creature that is entirely red, with its parts connected by something resembling fibrous roots.

The yellowish stuff is what grows on this creature, resembling abscesses, and it keeps contracting and expanding.

Roy noticed that these things kept growing out of the metal pipes, as if the pipes were full of these weird things.

Jay, having recovered, walked over and glanced at the scene; his expression immediately turned extremely unpleasant.

"This thing was indeed leaked!"

Roy looked at Jay, but unfortunately Jay was wearing a gas mask, so he couldn't see the other's expression.

"Do you know what this is?"

Jay nodded.

"Yes, this is what they're researching in the main lab. They call this thing Carion."

Carrion?
This word translates to rotting flesh, a stinking corpse, and unclean things.

Just by looking at the name, you can tell this thing isn't anything good.

"What's the point of something so disgusting?"

Do you think I, an intelligence officer, am qualified to know about this kind of issue?

Jay rolled his eyes at Roy. She was just a mid-level intelligence officer in the Naval Intelligence Agency. Even her high-level privileges at this experimental base were temporarily granted by Hammer. How could she be qualified to know such confidential matters?

Roy spread his hands.

"Since it's military research, I'm guessing it'll be applied to war research, isn't that how it's always portrayed in movies?"

This perfectly aligns with the stereotypes people around the world have about America's military.

Jay didn't want to respond to Roy because she was also a member of the military.

"It seems that the rapid warming of the environment and the creation of this red fog are caused by Carrion. Cliff Layton wasn't entirely lying."

"Don't let your guard down, this guy might be telling us a mix of truth and lies."

"I know, let's keep going! The temperature here is just unbearable!"

Soon, the two passed through the area filled with red mist, and the temperature immediately returned to normal, which made Jay breathe a heavy sigh of relief.

"Phew, we're finally out! How much further do we have?"

Jay was panting heavily; keeping his mind focused in the high temperature was incredibly exhausting.

"It shouldn't be far. Miss Jay, which maintenance access area are we in now?"

The maintenance passage was too complicated. After Roy followed the ghostly figure of the hellhound around for a while, he lost track of his approximate location.

Jay turned on the PAD and set its location.

"We're probably in a corner of the living area right now, with the staff dormitories just outside."

"Then let's go out."

The phantom of the hellhound was no longer visible in the maintenance passage, so Cliff Layton must be in the living area, not in Laboratory 3 as he had mentioned before.

This guy was lying after all!
What Roy and Jay saw when they left the maintenance driveway and entered the living area further confirmed that Cliff Layton was suspicious.

Because there was absolutely nothing going on in the living area; apart from not seeing anyone, everything was perfectly normal.

"That bastard was lying to us after all! What was he hiding?"

Jay was very angry.

"Wouldn't we know once we find him?"

Unfortunately, the living area also has a large number of surveillance cameras, and it is estimated that only the bedrooms and bathrooms in this experimental base are not monitored.

Upon seeing that Roy and Jay had gone to the living area instead of the energy zone, the walkie-talkie quickly went off.

"Why won't you two listen to me like your predecessors did?"

Judging from this, the Marines must have arrived here before being tricked by Cliff into going to Lab 3.

The ending is unlikely to be good.

An angry Jay immediately slammed the walkie-talkie shut and yelled at Cliff Layton.

"Did you kill them?"

Clive Layton responded quickly.

"No, no, no! Their job is to eliminate dangers and hidden dangers within the base. I'm just assigning them tasks."

"Then stop hiding and get out here right now!"

"Don't worry, I've already sent someone to pick you up. You should be able to see her soon."

After saying that, the walkie-talkie stopped responding to Jay.

"Her? Could it be Elsa Layton, Cliff's wife?"

Roy thought of a possibility.

"K."

The next second, the entire living area suddenly went dark.

"This guy actually turned off the lights!"

Roy was puzzled as to why Cliff Layton would do this, since the military would never go on a mission without providing night vision goggles, so turning off the lights would be a complete waste of time and would only further irritate Roy and Jay.

Unless, of course, this darkness brings some benefit.

Just then, Roy vaguely heard some strange noises coming from above, and he entered bullet time without hesitation.

In the darkness, Roy could vaguely see a blurry figure lunging at Jay.

Roy quickly pushed Jay aside and kicked the figure at the same time.

"what!"

With a scream, the thing was kicked dozens of meters away and crashed directly into the wall at the end of the corridor.

Just kidding, Roy currently has 80 points in strength, and a full-power punch could easily blow someone up.

Roy's kick was rather hasty, using only about a third of his strength, yet it still sent the attacker flying dozens of meters. Caught off guard, Jay also crashed into the wall, momentarily stunned and uncertain.

"Blake, what happened?"

At this moment, Roy had already activated his Eye of Truth and saw a humanoid creature in the distance with a bald head, male and female characteristics, and a tail.

"There was an invisible creature trying to ambush you! Stay here and don't move, I'm going to chase after it!"

Tactical helmets do provide protection, but they also impair one's senses; otherwise, Roy would have spotted the invisible guy long ago.

Roy noticed that after being kicked, the thing quickly got up and tried to escape on all fours. Although he immediately pulled out his revolver and fired, the bullets were blocked by some invisible force field and had no effect.

Therefore, Roy had no choice but to chase after him.

"Roy, wait a minute!"

Jay tried to dissuade Roy, but Roy vanished in the blink of an eye, not hearing a word she said.

At this moment, Jay was the only one left in the dark corridor.

Because of the series of events that had happened before, even the brave female intelligence agent felt a little uneasy when she was alone, fearing that something else might come up.

If some invisible enemy appears again, no one will be able to save Jay.

Jay stood up and tried to track Roy and the humanoid creature, but they were running too fast for her to catch up with.

As a result, Jay found himself in an unfamiliar corridor, but did not see Roy or the humanoid creature.

At that moment, Clive Layton's voice came through the walkie-talkie again.

"It seems you've been abandoned by your companions, how pitiful!"

Jay knew Clive Layton was trying to provoke her, but she was still a little angry.

"Shut up, you liar!"

"Then guess where I am right now?"

These words alerted Jay; if Cliff Layton said that, he was most likely nearby.

Jay immediately began to look around, but everything was quiet and there seemed to be nothing unusual.

But Cliff Layton was still speaking through a walkie-talkie.

"Madam, why do you choose such a dangerous profession? Is it for thrills?"

These words seemed to hit a nerve with Jay, and she gripped the walkie-talkie and cursed.

"none of your business!"

"Hehe, I was just showing you some concern, after all, you're about to—"

As she was speaking, Jay heard an unusual noise coming from the direction of the corner. She immediately gripped her rifle and slowed her pace to walk over.

After walking over, Jay saw a figure running past.

"Don't move!"

Jay immediately aimed his gun, but hesitated to fire.

After all, Cliff Layton was the base's chief scientist, and Jay wouldn't dare kill him unless he was found guilty on trial.

In this situation, Jay could only shout a warning, but the figure did not stop and disappeared around the corner in the blink of an eye.

Even with night vision goggles, it's difficult to judge the surroundings in the dark. Jay doesn't dare to take out his PAD to pinpoint his location and can only cautiously continue forward.

"Madam, are you looking for me? I advise you that you'd better not come looking for me."

Jay didn't respond to the walkie-talkie anymore; it would only distract her. Now, all she had to do was find Cliff Layton, and everything would be fine.

But Cliff Layton wouldn't let Jay go.

"Sigh, why can't you just listen to me? Like that woman!"

A woman? Which woman?
At that moment, Jay vaguely heard voices, seemingly coming from a room not far away.

Got you!

It is precisely at times like these that we need to be most cautious.

Jay continued to slow his pace, almost tiptoeing, without making a sound.

To avoid revealing himself, Jay even turned off the sound on his walkie-talkie.

"If I were you, I would obediently go to Lab 3 right now, instead of wandering around here aimlessly."

Sure enough, it was there!
Jay suppressed his excitement, calmly approached the room from which the sound was coming, and then rushed inside.

However, in this room, which was clearly a storage room, Jay did not see Cliff Layton, only two walkie-talkies nested together.

Oops!

Roy had encountered a similar situation before, but he reacted in time and avoided being affected.

But Jay wasn't so lucky. As soon as she turned around, she saw a pale-faced middle-aged man behind her, pressing something against her abdomen.

Jay convulsed and collapsed to the ground.

"I told you, you'd better not contact me, but you just won't listen!"

Cliff Layton retrieved the walkie-talkie and then dragged the stunned Jay away.

When Jay regained consciousness, he found himself stripped of all his equipment and locked in a room surrounded by transparent glass, which appeared to be some kind of observation room.

There are beds, furniture, and some children's toys inside.

Outside the glass room was a place that looked like a laboratory.

However, Jay was certain that she hadn't seen this laboratory when she last entered the experimental base.

Clive Layton was sitting in a chair outside the glass room, looking at a computer, seemingly watching surveillance footage.

Could it be that this guy is looking for Blake?

Jay has been captured, and her only hope for survival is that Roy will come looking for her, so she has to find a way to distract Cliff Layton.

After figuring it out, Jay started banging on the glass.

Cliff glanced at Jay, then turned his head back.

"You're awake! Don't worry, I'll find your companion right away! Wait, why is there another rat here?"

This guy really is looking for Roy!

"You bastard, why did you do this! Let me out!"

"Don't waste your energy. No matter how loud you shout, it won't make a difference. You might as well sit down and enjoy the last moments of your life."

This time, Cliff didn't even turn his head; his eyes remained fixed on the computer screen.

Jay bit his lip, realizing he had to find another way.

"Oh dear, someone's clothes look torn. Did you do something to them?"

Jay suddenly started speaking in a high-pitched voice.

To be honest, Jay probably rarely speaks in a high-pitched voice, so it sounded a bit awkward and even gave Cliff a chill.

However, Jay still has a great figure, a typical sexy American girl's body, especially now that she's posing provocatively to show off her physical advantages.

However, Cliff still did not turn back.

Jay was a little angry. Even after all this, she still wouldn't turn back, so she started cursing again.

"Are you fucking incapable?"

Upon hearing this, Cliff finally turned around.
