Chapter 176 The Crossbow Shows Initial Success
Jiu Ying carefully carried the burlap out of the room and bumped into Sophie, who had come to find Zeref.

"Jiuying, what are you going to do?"

“Young Master’s clothes are old, I’ll go and make him a new one,” Jiu Ying answered without missing a beat.

Sophie glanced at the linen on the tray and frowned.

Her slender fingers picked up the burlap and examined it. "How can such inferior burlap be worthy of Zeref?"

“I have some blue linen at home. Go and get it for Zeref to make clothes.”

After saying that, Sophie crumpled up the burlap on the tray and threw it on the ground.

Seeing the dusty linen, Jiu Ying's expression turned somewhat unpleasant.

He instinctively looked at the room and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the door was closed.

He crouched down to pick up the burlap, but Sophie stopped him.

Why are you still picking them up?

"This is the young master's instruction; I cannot fail to do so."

Sophie was a little angry to see that even a piece of cheap linen was more important than herself.

She lifted her foot and stomped on the burlap, then wrung it out.

The already sparse linen was torn open by her rough handling.

Jiu Ying was so frightened that she broke out in a cold sweat.

The door to the room opened, and a tall figure walked out.

Sophie turned her head at the sound and saw Zeref.

A bright smile spread across her lips. "Zerev, you've finally agreed to see me."

Zeref, his face grim, brushed past Sophie. His silver eyes stared at the tattered burlap on the ground, his expression as dark as ink.

"Who did it?"

Seeing Zeref treating the burlap so seriously, Sophie stomped her foot and huffed, "It's me."

"Zeref, in your heart, am I not even worth a piece of tattered burlap?"

Zeref crouched down and picked up the burlap from the ground, his rough fingers stroking the tear in the fabric.

Seeing the expression on Zeref's face, Sophie keenly sensed something was amiss.

"Who made this linen for you that you cherish it so much?"

Zeref pursed his lips and remained silent, carrying the burlap sack back to his room.

"Zeref, say something! Have you forgotten that I am your future partner?"

Sophie held onto Zeref's arm tightly, her transparent nails digging into his arm.

Zeref lowered his eyes and forcefully shook off Sophie's hand.

He said coldly, "Get out."

Sophie stared wide-eyed in disbelief. "Zereff, what did you say? You actually told me to get out?"

"That's right, from now on you are not allowed to set foot in my house again."

Jiu Ying, who was listening nearby, was sweating profusely. He knew that if it weren't for Sophie's noble status, she would probably already be dead.

"Zeref, I hate you, I never want to talk to you again." Sophie bit her lip and ran away with red eyes.

When she got home, she buried herself in her bed and sobbed softly.

This scene was witnessed by Brada, who had come to check on things, and Brada rushed forward anxiously.

"Sophie, what's wrong? Who bullied you?"

Sophie sat up and threw herself into Brada's arms. "It's Zeref."

“In his heart, I am not even worth a piece of tattered burlap.”

She choked up as she recounted what had happened that day.

Brada's eyes darkened slightly. "Leave Sophie's matter to my brother. I won't let you suffer for nothing."

Brada comforted Sophie for a while, then went to the study and summoned the beast servant Kaka.

Kaka: "Young Master, what are your orders?"

Brada tapped his fingers on the table, making a thumping sound. "Go and find out who's been sending things to Zeref lately."

"Yes."

In just two days, Kaka found out the whole story.

"You mean that linen was sent from the City of Ten Thousand Beasts?"

Brada frowned. "How come he doesn't remember anyone in Beast City who knows how to weave?" "Yes, Zeref sent a weaving male and a loom to Beast City a while ago."

"Who exactly is in the City of Ten Thousand Beasts that would allow him to send such a precious juicer there?" Brada keenly caught a clue.

He looked up at the overcast sky outside the window; it seemed he really needed to make a trip to the City of Ten Thousand Beasts.

What else did you find?

Kaka shook his head. "That's all we found. There are too many low-level tribes around Beast City; our people didn't uncover any other useful information."

Brada waved his hand. "Go down."

On the other side, at Zeref's mansion.

"Young Master, are the Fire Phoenix Clan members investigating matters concerning our Master?"

The master refers to Ophelia.

"Why are they investigating her?" Zeref's expression changed drastically.

To avoid arousing suspicion, he did not send anyone to investigate Ophelia's whereabouts during this period.

But why, despite his tight precautions, was he still discovered by the Fire Phoenix Clan?

"It must be that piece of linen..."

When the name of Mabuzerev was mentioned, his expression turned cold. No matter how good the weavers he had found in the past two days, they were unable to restore the linen.

Everyone says it needs to be disassembled again to restore it to its original, intact state.

But if it's dismantled again, then it won't be something Ophelia made for him anymore.

"Young Master, is there anything we should do?" Jiu Ying asked.

Zeref pinched the bridge of his nose. "Don't move yet, lest we expose ourselves."

"These next two days, you and your men will keep a close eye on the Fire Phoenix Clan's situation. Report any movements to me immediately."

"Yes."

The turmoil in the Holy Capital had not yet reached the City of Ten Thousand Beasts, nor had it affected the Fortune Clan tribe.

Under the same sky, the capital city was shrouded in dark clouds, while Broze enjoyed a clear blue sky.

In order to test the cold weapons she had made, Ophelia specially cleared out a piece of land in the Fu tribe's territory as a shooting range.

The shooting range was completely covered by animal hide cloth, and unauthorized personnel were strictly prohibited from approaching.

In the center of the shooting range, Lan Tai held a crossbow, his eyes slightly narrowed, and fired at the wooden disc in front of him.

Shhhhhh.

The sound of arrows piercing the air was followed by three short arrows firmly embedded in the disc.

"It worked! It actually worked!" Taylor was utterly shocked.

Klein remained quite calm. He watched Ophelia's retreating figure, once again amazed by the novel ideas that came to her mind.

If such a powerful weapon were equipped on every male, they would be invincible.

"Lan Tai, take another fifty steps back." Fifty steps is fifty meters.

Lan Tai obediently retreated fifty paces, then reloaded his arrow and shot again.

The arrow still struck the target, but the mark wasn't as deep as before.

Lantai understood what Ophelia meant, and he scratched his head. "Chieftain, should I try again?"

"no need."

The result is already quite clear: the crossbow's range is within 100 meters.

Beyond 100 meters, its power is greatly reduced and its speed slows down, making it easy for any male with even a little strength to take it down.

Seeing Ophelia's serious expression, Lantai felt somewhat uneasy. "Chieftain, is there something I did wrong?"

"No, you've already done a great job to this extent."

Ophelia knew that it was already quite impressive to be able to make such a crossbow with the current tools in the Beast World, and she couldn't ask for too much.

Klein picked up the crossbow and fired it at the target. "The longer the distance, the less effective the crossbow becomes."

"You need to focus on how to make the crossbow's range longer."

Klein astutely grasped the key point.

Ophelia glanced at Klein, once again amazed by his intelligence.

Klein gave Ophelia a slight smile.

Taylor watched from the side, his gaze falling on the companion beast mark on Klein's shoulder.
