Mercenary I am the king

Chapter 879 The Hunt Begins

Chapter 879 The Hunt Begins

Northern section of Gugla Canyon, 06:17 local time.

Major Jason's Humvee convoy snaked through the narrowest part of the canyon like a steel centipede.

The M2HB heavy machine gun mounted on the lead M1114 armored Humvee swayed its muzzle from side to side, while the machine gunner, Corporal Kyle, kept his index finger lightly resting on the trigger guard.

"Keep your distance!"

Jensen pressed the PTT button on the car radio.

"Vehicle B, watch out for the rock face on your right."

A static crackled through the headset, and Ramirez, the machine gunner from vehicle B, spoke in a slightly distorted voice: "Roger that, no anomalies detected."

Captain McCarthy, in the middle of the convoy, suddenly frowned as the green dot representing a drone on the tactical tablet began to flash.

"Major, the 'Raven' drone has lost signal."

Jason sat up abruptly, his right hand instinctively reaching for the assault rifle hanging on his chest.

He looked out the car window and saw that the rock walls on both sides of the canyon rose abruptly here, forming a nearly vertical cliff hundreds of meters high.

With the sunlight blocked out, the convoy seemed to have entered a dark tunnel.

The terrain here is very unique, long and narrow, deep, with towering rock walls on both sides.

It has a strong interference and shielding effect on signals.

"We need to get out of here quickly."

A sense of foreboding washed over him.

Suddenly, something seemed to flash on the rock face ahead.

"Stop the car! Stop the car!"

Jason suddenly roared.

But it's too late.

Three red laser dots suddenly lit up high on the rock face, landing precisely on the vehicles at the front, rear, and middle of the convoy.

This was the signal that Song Heping had been waiting for.

"Detonate!"

Following the instructions transmitted through the headset, the demolition expert, who was lying in ambush in the rock crevice, simultaneously pressed the detonator.

Twenty-four groups of C4 explosives, pre-buried in weak points of the rock wall, were detonated in a precisely calculated sequence.

Each piece of explosive is specially shaped so that the detonation wave is directed entirely into the rock mass.

Rumbling--

The entire canyon was trembling. First, small pebbles fell like raindrops, then large rocks the size of tabletops, and finally, entire sections of the rock face began to collapse.

Jason watched helplessly as the rock wall thirty meters ahead collapsed like melted chocolate, thousands of tons of rock crashing onto the road.

“Reverse! Reverse now!” Jason yelled into the radio.

The driver of the last car frantically shifted into reverse, only to see a similar cloud of dust rising behind them, obscuring the sky.

The second wave of directional blasting completely blocked the escape route.

In less than ten seconds, the entire convoy was trapped in a 150-meter-long "death corridor".

"Everyone disembark! Establish a defensive perimeter!"

As Jason kicked open the car door, a fist-sized piece of gravel hit his helmet with a clang.

The well-trained special forces soldiers quickly deployed a ring defense using the vehicles as cover, and the M240B machine guns were immediately set up.

The snipers on the rock face gave them no chance to catch their breath.

bang——

The Barrett heavy sniper rifle in the hunter's hand emitted a muffled thud, sending dust flying around him.

Ramirez, the machine gunner in vehicle B, suddenly had his head explode like a watermelon, splattering a red and white mixture onto the bulletproof windows.

The 12.7mm armor-piercing round, after penetrating the skull, continued its momentum and shattered the medical kit in the rear compartment.

"Sniper! Three o'clock!"

McCarthy rolled under the vehicle, his M320 grenade launcher quickly pointed towards the high rock face. "Distance 200, elevation 60 degrees!"

Three 40mm high-explosive grenades whistled as they flew toward the rock face, creating a cloud of smoke and dust.

But this was just a futile counterattack—the hunter had already moved on.

Jason leaned against the tires, quickly inspecting the tactical tablet.

The canyon terrain appears as a deep V-shape on the screen, and they are located at the lowest point.

“We need air support,” he roared into the satellite phone. “Call 'Strike Eagle' immediately!”

His response was a strange static noise.

Jason then discovered that all communication devices were displaying "no signal".

"FUCK!" He then realized that he had fallen into a carefully laid trap.

The hunters on the rock face began to show their true strength.

Da da da--

Da da da--

Da da da--

Amidst the fierce roar of the PK general-purpose machine gun, bullets rained down on the convoy. 7.62mm bullets precisely pierced the observation slits of the Humvee, pinning two communications soldiers operating radios to their seats.

The bullets were specifically chosen to be armor-piercing incendiary rounds. The victim's body was quickly ignited, and the car was immediately filled with the pungent smell of roasting meat and burning plastic.

"Locate them! Activate thermal imaging mode!"

"Thermal imaging is useless!"

The machine gunner on the roof shouted as he took off his head-mounted night vision goggles.

"They stuffed self-heating bags into the crevices in the rocks! There are heat sources everywhere!"

Jason suddenly understood his opponent's tactics.

Song Heping's team not only calculated the explosive yield and location, but also considered every possible countermeasure the US military might use.

Those seemingly random rock fissures are actually carefully designed firing ports; behind every protruding rock ridge, a deadly gunman may be lurking.

"Smoke bombs! Everyone, break through to the western valley entrance! Charge forward! Otherwise, you'll all die here!"

Jensen made a decision.

Six M18 smoke grenades exploded simultaneously, instantly filling the canyon with milky white smoke.

Eighteen special forces soldiers formed a wedge formation and moved along what appeared to be a low rock face under the cover of smoke.

What they didn't know was that this was exactly what Song Heping had fallen into, his second trap.

Ding--

The first soldier at the front heard a faint metallic sound under his feet, and his pupils immediately contracted.

"Mine!"

boom--

The Claymore mines placed in front exploded, and hundreds of steel pillars rained down on the Green-Capped Team members like a storm of needles.

On the eastern cliff face, Song Heping calmly observed everything through binoculars.

The explosives expert next to him, Lao Zhou, was adjusting the frequency of the remote detonator.

“Eight left.” Collins licked his chapped lips. “Shall we go down and collect the net?”

Song Heping glanced at his watch: "Wait a little longer. Eight men are quite capable. Get the rocket launcher operator up here and fire a few rockets at those rubble piles to force them out."

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the valley, Jason looked around, his combat uniform soaked with cold sweat.

He counted the remaining personnel: only five men, including himself, two of whom were wounded. They had ample ammunition, but in this terrain, they couldn't utilize their firepower advantage.

"Ross!" Jason gritted his teeth and ordered, "When we throw the smoke grenades, you immediately rush to that big rock ahead and send out a distress signal as fast as you can!"

Signalman Ross rushed to Jason's side and glanced at the large rock a dozen meters away.

This was a suicide charge.

Ross certainly knew.

Once you climb onto the rock, you're like an open target stuck in it.

But this is also the only chance that might yield even a tiny bit of a signal.

If we don't do it this way, everyone will die.

"Ok!"

He nodded vigorously.

"You cover me!"

"one two three--"

When Jason counted to three, several smoke grenades flew out from behind the pile of rubble, landing at different locations from different angles. Soon, the smoke covered a distance of more than ten meters between the pile of rubble and the large rock.

"run!"

At Jason's command, Ross, without even taking his gun, charged towards the boulder with the radio on his back.

"They're going to send a signal!"

Song Heping could vaguely see moving figures through the gaps in the smoke.

We also saw the huge rock in front of us.

He guessed Jason's intentions.

"Machine guns block the passage! Don't let him climb the rocks!"
