Chapter 174 Rodel Legion

Two months later, just as all the human kings were setting off for Gondor upon hearing the news of Sauron's appearance, Thanes completed his plan.

His plan was actually quite simple: since the Golden Tree was indeed continuing to have manpower, and the Black Gate had seemingly endless Orks every day, he would simply turn these Orks into Soul Runes that could summon Golden Tree soldiers.

The more Orks you kill, the more soldiers the Golden Tree will have, until it can no longer summon any more.

The only real problem was the great distance between the Golden Tree and the Black Gate, which was precisely the issue Tanes was trying to solve.

The solution to this problem is not difficult; it involves the teleportation technology used to quickly send the Red Lions to Longlake Town for the Battle of Lonely Hill.

This is why Thanes was so confident in asking the Regent of Gondor for two months, because that was the time it would take him to travel from Gondor back to the Golden Tree and then set up the portal anchor point at the Black Gate.

After the meeting with the Regent, as Tanes helped Melina onto Torret's back, he assured the still somewhat worried Dehel that the Golden Tree's support would arrive within two months, and asked Talion and the others to hold on for that period.

Although Dehail's worried expression hadn't faded, his brows relaxed slightly.

When the Regent said in the hall that he could only provide material support, Dehail felt a chill in his heart.

Although he was young, it didn't mean he couldn't see that the real trouble the Black Gate would face was the constant attacks from the Orks, and that the Rangers' limited manpower was simply not enough to defend the Black Gate.

Dehel even once thought that Gondor might not have wanted to guard the Black Gate at all, which was why they let it go unchecked.

Fortunately, Lord Tanes gave him some reassurance, allowing Dehel to muster the courage to report the situation to his father.

Therefore, two months later, when Dehair saw Tanes and Melina suddenly appear amidst the desolate scenery outside the Black Gate, both Talion and Dehair breathed a sigh of relief.

Perhaps it is this identity of "wizard" that gives men a sense of security.

When Tanes climbed back up the towering walls of the Black Gate, he had already noticed the changes that had occurred in the past two months.

The most significant change is that the ease on the faces of Talion and the other rangers is gone. Their faces are now filled with the exhaustion of long battles and the numbness of having to move on to the next battle before they can even mourn their fallen comrades.

Talion's forehead was covered in wrinkles, and even his once dashing black hair was now streaked with silver. His leather armor was also marked with many sword cuts and smeared with black Orc blood that he hadn't had time to wash off.

However, the rangers soon discovered that after Tanes and his men ascended the Black Gate, no one else appeared outside the gate for a long time, let alone any reinforcements.

Even birds were rare in the sky; only the sandstorms rose and fell, creating a chaotic and unpredictable scene.

Talion noticed that Melina was still the only one following behind Tanes. Overwhelmed by Oak's onslaught, he couldn't help but ask, "Lord Tanes, are you and Miss Melina the only ones who came?"

Tanes took a large, heavy-looking package from the saddle and then called Torret back to the sentry post.

Hearing Talion's words and seeing the hopeful look in his eyes, he didn't mince words but directly reassured him, "Don't be impatient, Talion. The reinforcements will reach the Black Gate directly through my magic." Melina added calmly, "Lord Talion, Tanes has never broken his promise to a friend. Please rest assured of that. Or do you think Tanes would lie to you?"

Tanes glanced at Melina with some surprise, while Talion immediately put on an apologetic expression: "That's not what I meant..."

Tanes quickly waved his hand: "I know, I know. After all, you've never seen me use witchcraft, so it's understandable that you have such doubts if you can't see the army. Alright, let's get down to business. See what I'm carrying? It can solve the Black Gate's problem. Do you have a slightly larger space? I'm afraid there won't be enough room for people to stand later."

Although Talion still didn't know what Tanes was planning to do, he still found him a relatively open spot on the city wall.

Tanes noticed that there were traces of many people living here, but now there was a thin layer of dust, indicating that no one had cleaned it for some time.

“A month ago, this was a place where a group of wandering knights trained or rested. However, they all died in battle defending the Black Gate these past few days. Their families, to avoid being reminded of them by these things and to better protect them, moved them to another place on the city wall. So you can use this place without worry; it won't cause us any trouble,” Talion explained, noticing Tanes's confusion.

Tanes nodded, then pondered for a moment before giving Talion a very serious warning: "From now on, do not tell anyone anything you see, understand?"

He thought for a moment, and then deliberately told Talion a false message: "This witchcraft has a limitation, which is that it will lose its effect if too many people know about it. For the safety of your family and the Black Gate, you don't want to be unable to get support because the witchcraft has failed, do you?"

Seeing Tanes' serious expression, Talion immediately nodded: "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone what I'm about to see."

Tanes had originally intended to continue concealing the existence of the teleportation technology, but the teleportation portal was located on the Black Gate, and Talion and his rangers would eventually discover this secret.

Rather than hiding it, it's better to tell Talion from the beginning and tell him not to tell anyone.

With Melina's help, the stone portal was quickly and firmly fixed to the ground of the city wall. Then, following the method that his master Seren had taught him, Tanes activated the portal by channeling his magic power.

The moment the portal was activated, stardust-like magic began to surge, and then a familiar figure wearing silver armor stepped out.

It was Bernal.

Behind him, the portal's light continued to shine, and Egon and Millison appeared one after another, followed by the Golden Legion of the royal city of Rhodel. Rhodel knights, clad in golden armor and wielding lances and tower shields, appeared one after another.

Then came the Rodel soldiers, each carrying a sharp royal straight sword and a sturdy brass shield.

From Talion's perspective, it was Tanes who cast a spell on the strange stone tablet, and then more and more soldiers began to appear, until finally two golden, heavily armored knights riding tall warhorses, almost four meters tall, appeared, and the light on the stone tablet slowly dimmed.

Two months ago, Tanes collected Orc souls at the Black Gate, and after he returned, he summoned warriors belonging to the Royal City Rodel Legion.

When it comes to defending cities, no army is better than the Legion of Rodel.
