Chapter 558 Outstanding New Generation

Information about Brianna is completely absent from the Black Abyss. If someone were to investigate her in the East, they might only find information about Yingtao. Then, due to racial differences, they would doubt whether they had made a mistake.

Therefore, the old Black Abyss members were practically the perfect spies. Furthermore, their credentials with the Vatican were genuine, so even most wizards believed that Brianna and her companions were working for the Vatican.

The wizards in the library were all newcomers, the oldest being more than twenty years younger than Roland—in his early thirties. There was a whole generation between them, and Roland hadn't been in the East for the entire twenty years.

They were nominally Roland's apprentices, but they had never actually met their master; they only knew him from various magic books.

Roland had thought that some of these people would recognize him, after all, Catherine had said that they were all his little fans. But that wasn't the case.

Everyone regarded Roland as the Papal Knight brought by Brianna.

I wonder what kind of person the mentor is in the hearts of these apprentices. But he must be much more mature than the somewhat mature-looking photo hanging in the academy.

He is definitely not a young knight or apprentice who looks only twenty years old.

“These young apprentices, the oldest of whom were born after 08, how about it, aren’t they full of energy?” Brianna looked at the wizards with full beards passing by and whispered to Roland with a smile.

Wizards of the second rank and above like to dress younger so they don't appear so old.

The Tower Apprentices, however, preferred to grow beards, hoping to appear more mature and reliable. Although their beards were trimmed short and neat for the convenience of experiments, they still looked very mature.

In addition, people from the East are naturally mature-looking, so when they grow beards, a twenty-year-old can look like he's forty.

Someone like Roland, who has no hair on his chin, would be treated as a lowly apprentice who has just entered school at the age of sixteen or seventeen.

“Most of these guys are from the 10s?” Roland paused, then sighed and said, “I’m really getting old.”

Brianna chuckled to herself. Roland had finally joined the ranks of these 'older generation wizards'.

“Don’t you plan to let your students meet their mentors?” Brianna asked.

Roland touched his smooth chin, somewhat embarrassed, and offered an excuse: "Let's wait a couple of days. Are Taras and his group coming too? I'll bring them over in a few days and we'll talk about it then."

Brianna said, "Because the situation on the Holy See's side is not yet stable, there's a lot of drama. So, Taras, Merlin, and other precious bastards haven't come yet."

The team led by Dean 'Usak' was present this time.

Upon hearing that Mentor Usak had also arrived at the Holy See, Roland's eyes lit up slightly. It had been over twenty years since the two had last seen each other, since Roland had treated Amber at the Serpent Tower.

Although he had only just entered the late stage of the second tier, ordinary demigods were no match for him.

“Are there any other acquaintances I know?” Roland asked.

Brianna thought for a moment and said, "Joan said you should know that 'Little Zoe.' He's a newcomer to the Twilight Senate, but he's quite capable. He's also very knowledgeable in the occult, so you should get along well."

Upon hearing that the guy who looked like a 'hot air balloon' had also arrived, Roland's expression turned strange.

If Usak, with his zombie-like face, snake scales, and cracked mouth, is considered by the Holy See to be a typical Eastern Dark Wizard, then...

Zoe's appearance would then be that of the most evil Eastern Wizard, one who has transcended the realm of dark wizards and entered the ranks of evil gods.

Even in the eyes of the wizards of the East, an old man like Zoe was an evil freak. And judging from Brianna's account, quite a few such people had come.

For people like Mentor Usak, the Vatican can still explain to the believers that he is not a black wizard, but a serpent god, which is why he looks like a snake.

But how do you explain a sorceress like Zoe?

The Eastern Territory deliberately sent these people; it was practically defecating on the Papacy's neck. And the Papacy, naturally, was furious.

Roland suddenly understood why Brianna had said, "There's been a lot of drama lately."

It might be a little better in this Holy See, but there must be plenty of fun in that Holy City.

There were many more tables in the library, and the apprentices were organizing Roland's recent creations, while others were studying the puzzle of the Holy See.

Roland glanced at the jigsaw puzzle and quickly lost hope.

Because what these apprentices were studying were high-dimensional topologies that Roland believed could not be the final fragment. The probability that they might be base fragments was infinitesimally close to zero.

Therefore, Roland didn't even look at these things back then. Because he knew that the answers couldn't be found in these high-dimensional topologies.

Judging from some of the discussions, they seem to know that they may be doing something futile, but they are still doing it diligently.

Even if these high-dimensional topologies are impossible, someone still needs to go and check them out to confirm them.

Even if everyone knows that this road is blocked, they can only grope forward in the dark, just in case there really is light at the end of this road.
Mario didn't seem to be there yet, so Roland decided to wait for him.

But when Roland arrived at the desk where he and Mario usually sat, he found someone sitting in his seat doing official business.

He was a senior apprentice in his late twenties, one of only two men in the room besides Roland who didn't have a beard. Therefore, everyone else seemed more mature and experienced than him.

But he ended up sitting in the mentor's seat, and everyone seemed to take it all for granted.

Several apprentices were around him asking him questions, clearly acting as if he were the boss since Roland wasn't around.

After watching for a while, Roland noticed that the senior apprentice was not sitting in his own seat to work, but rather there was a thin crystal slab about half a person's height on the table.

It seems that this is the only seat in the entire library with such a crystal; if you want to look something up, you have to sit here.

By this time, the apprentices who had asked questions had left. The senior apprentice in his seat turned around and saw Roland and Brianna behind him.

Brianna often came here with Olivia, and the apprentice clearly recognized her. So he quickly rose to greet her.

He was very polite to Brianna, not because he knew her identity, but because he knew that this Grand Inquisitor, like Lord Mario, was a remarkable scholar.

“You go about your business, I just came to check on things,” Brianna said. She knew Roland thought she looked too young and didn’t want to make a public appearance today, so she didn’t introduce Roland.

So after inquiring about the progress of the pedestal fragments, Brianna decided to go with Roland to find Mario elsewhere.

I thought Roland wanted to leave too, but to my surprise, Roland stood there staring at the crystal for a long time, seemingly interested in it.

Brianna shook her head inwardly. The crystal reflected the structure of a higher-dimensional object, so complex that it was beyond description. A single glance at it would be enough to give any normal person a headache.

Brianna was clearly a normal person; every time she observed this thing, she felt as if she were looking directly at an ancient god. Therefore, although she could understand these things, she disliked looking at them.

But Roland and his students were fascinated by this thing.

“Interesting,” Roland nodded. “This looks like something you drew yourself? Are you trying to depict the last fragment of the Holy See?”

The advanced apprentice was somewhat surprised and embarrassed that the young knight had actually understood it. (End of Chapter)
