Sherlock Holmes at Hogwarts.
Chapter 392 Two Sherlock Holmes
Chapter 392 Two Sherlock Holmes
Compared to the frail and listless old Sherlock, the young and healthy version of Sherlock is full of vitality.
Under the watchful eyes of Sherlock, Harry, and Lupin, he suddenly chuckled: "This... is a possible sample of future degeneration?"
The pipe spun gracefully between his fingers, and his voice, unlike Sherlock's now, carried a metallic, penetrating quality.
"He...he spoke? He actually spoke!"
Harry stared at the other person in shock.
What's happening here?
This is getting weirder and weirder!
Lupin was slightly better off than Harry, but he was equally surprised by what he was seeing.
The young Sherlock continues to deliver:
"Look, this is a typical lesion of synaptic redundancy. The dendrites and spinous processes show an irregular alternation of proliferation and atrophy. The efficiency of neurotransmitter transmission in the synaptic cleft decreases, accompanied by the systemic collapse of the logical center."
The rate of neuronal apoptosis in the prefrontal cortex exceeds the normal metabolic rate; focal necrosis occurs in the language center of the temporal lobe; and diffuse demyelination changes are observed in the neural circuits in the parietal lobe responsible for spatial reasoning.
"Yes, it's interesting—but utterly worthless."
Harry and Lupin stared in astonishment at the scene before them:
The real Sherlock stood in the center of the classroom, his gray eyes gleaming with curiosity.
The adult version of Sherlock, transformed from Boggart, leaned lazily against the sofa, the pipe at his fingertips still emitting wisps of smoke.
The two Sherlocks together create a bizarre and wonderful scene.
They were speechless for a moment and could only stare blankly.
Sherlock himself stared at the phantom smoke rising from his pipe, a barely perceptible smile playing on his lips.
"Completely worthless?"
When you say something is worthless, are you referring to the possibility of such a decline itself, or to your perception of it?
Forget it, you don't need to give an answer—because fate is in my own hands, and my future can only be defined by myself, so…”
He suppressed a laugh, flicked his wand to dispel the faint smoke, and turned to the side: "Your turn, Harry."
After saying that, he stepped aside.
Young Sherlock did not answer, but a smile spread across his face.
"Okay, okay!"
Hearing Sherlock's words, Harry finally snapped out of his shock at the two Sherlocks.
Seeing Sherlock step back, he understood what he should do, took a deep breath, and stepped forward.
The adult Sherlock Holmes, wearing a deerstalker hat, holding a pipe in one hand and a cane in the other, disappeared with a smile.
Instead, there are sinister and terrifying Dementors.
Almost instantly, the lights flickered twice and then went out, plunging the classroom back into cold darkness.
"Call the gods to protect you!"
Harry mustered his courage and shouted it out.
He raised his wand and repeatedly chanted the spell: "Touch me! Touch me!"
This time, the scream in Harry's mind reappeared.
However, unlike the previous times, the sound was not so clear this time; instead, it sounded like it was coming from an out-of-tuned radio.
Up and down, up and down...
Harry's vision was no longer shrouded in white mist as before; he remained conscious and could still see the Dementors.
A huge silver shadow shot out from the tip of the wand, hovering between him and the Dementor.
The Dementor stopped in front of him immediately.
At that moment, Harry felt his legs go weak and powerless.
But he stopped!
Although he wasn’t sure how much longer he could stand, he managed to stay upright and didn’t faint!
This feeling reminded him of the last public trial.
Back then, I was merely an observer, not directly confronting the Dementors, and it felt similar to today.
"funny……"
Lupin was about to speak when he suddenly realized something and quickly turned to Sherlock, "Sherlock, are you coming?"
"Of course!"
Sherlock smiled slightly and stepped forward.
"Call the gods to protect you!"
As Sherlock recited the Patronus Charm, a huge silver shadow appeared at the tip of his wand.
Compared to Harry's vague image, Sherlock's Patronus is much clearer—a lion.
With a snap, Harry's blurry Patronus vanished along with the Dementors.
The elderly and frail Sherlock, now in a wheelchair, reappears.
Sherlock frowned.
The guardian spirit summoned by the Guardian Charm clearly had no effect on Boggart, who raised his wand once more.
"Funny!"
With a soft snap, Sherlock reappeared in his adult form.
Surprisingly, he calmly exhaled a smooth smoke ring and spoke clearly:
"How long are you planning to stop playing?"
Professor Lu Ping felt a chill run down his spine.
Sherlock and Harry, those two little wizards are simply freaks.
Harry's ability to turn Boggart into a Dementor is already quite unbelievable, but at least it can be explained by the fact that his greatest fear is fear itself.
But what exactly is going on with Sherlock?
What I fear is that I have lost the ability to think. After using the "funny" feature, I actually recreated an adult version of myself with the ability to think.
As a werewolf by blood, a member of the Order of the Phoenix, a participant in the Wizarding Wars, and a warrior who was always on the front lines of the fight against Voldemort, Professor Lupin can definitely be described as a seasoned veteran who has seen it all.
I've never encountered a situation like this before!
"Funny!"
Seeing Sherlock tilting his head, seemingly deep in thought, Lupin rushed forward.
Boggart instantly transformed back into a silver sphere.
Lupin breathed a sigh of relief as he used his wand to drive it into the box.
He turned around and strode up to Harry. "Excellent, Harry! You're finally showing signs of improvement!"
Then he looked at Sherlock, "You too, Sherlock! You two are the most talented wizards I know, to have reached this level on your first practice session!"
He is also the strangest wizard I know.
Lu Ping silently added a sentence in his mind.
"Can we try again?"
Harry slumped into his chair the moment Sherlock stepped forward to take over.
I still feel exhausted, as if I've only run a mile, and my legs are shaking uncontrollably.
"not now!"
Seeing Harry's state, Lupin firmly said, "That's enough practice for one night, here you go—"
As he spoke, he handed the prepared chocolates to Sherlock again.
“Eat it, or Ms. Pomfrey will come after me.”
"Ok."
Harry looked into Professor Lupin's determined eyes and knew he couldn't reason with him.
He took a bite of the chocolate, and that familiar feeling quickly returned, warming his limbs instantly.
Lupin relit the lamp that had gone out when the Dementors disappeared, then hesitated before looking at Sherlock:
"Sherlock, would you like a piece?" "No, thank you."
Sherlock smiled slightly, took out a flat bottle of brandy from his pocket, and took a small sip: "I still prefer it."
Lupin nodded.
Sherlock was less affected by the Dementors than Harry was.
Furthermore, despite practicing with Boggarts, Sherlock was never able to confront the Dementors directly.
Seeing that Sherlock had only taken a small sip of the liquor before putting it away, Lupin didn't say anything more to comfort him.
"So...we'll go with the same time next week?"
"no problem."
"You should rest a little longer before leaving; it's getting late."
Both of them nodded.
While waiting for Harry to recover, Sherlock also chatted with Professor Lupin.
He asked casually, "There are still more than twenty days left, right?"
Lupin was taken aback at first, then realized what Sherlock was talking about, and nodded with a wry smile:
"Yes, once a month, this is my destiny..."
"Would you mind telling me what happened—how exactly did you become a werewolf?"
(°ー°〃)
Lupin looked at Sherlock in surprise.
He hadn't expected the little boy to ask such a question so casually.
Harry could only manage a wry smile.
That's Sherlock for you—always saying what he thinks.
"Why, is it inconvenient?"
Lupin: "..."
He took a deep breath. "There's nothing inconvenient about it. Since you're willing to listen, I'll tell you."
Remus John Lupin was a half-blood wizard.
His father, Lyle Lupin, was an exceptionally intelligent man who, by the age of 30, had become a renowned authority on nonhuman paranormal phenomena in the wizarding world.
During a forest expedition to Wales, Lyle met his future wife, a beautiful Muggle girl named Hope Howell.
Not long after this romantic encounter, the two got married, and Hope naturally learned about the existence of magic from Lyle.
The couple were inseparable after their marriage, and Remus Lupin was born the following year.
Unsurprisingly, Remus Lupin displayed magical talent at a very young age.
Therefore, both parents believed that he would definitely go to Hogwarts in the future.
When Remus Lupin was four years old, the Black magic was becoming increasingly rampant in England.
Although the truth behind more and more attacks and sightings remains largely unknown, in retrospect, Voldemort's rise was brewing at that time.
It was against this backdrop that the Death Eaters, who followed Voldemort, gathered together, recruiting various dark magic creatures to fight against the existing magical system.
In response, the Ministry of Magic convened numerous experts in dark magic creatures to assist in clarifying and containing the crisis, and many were invited to join the Department of Magical Creatures Control.
Lyle Lupin was one of them.
But he never imagined that his actions would destroy his family, especially bringing utter disaster to young Remus.
During one of his work assignments, Lyle encountered a criminal suspect named Fenrir Greyback at the Ministry of Magic.
Because of the deaths of two Muggle children, this person was summoned to the Ministry of Magic for questioning.
Fenrir Greyback was filthy at the time, and he claimed to be just a homeless man who knew nothing about wizards or Muggles.
He was even terrified when the wizards displayed their magic before him and when he heard the news of the two children's deaths.
The Ministry of Magic didn't have anyone as skilled in observation and reasoning as Sherlock, and the staff of the interrogation committee had been working overtime for a long time. They also hadn't found a wand on Fenrir Greyback, so they believed his lies.
Claire Lupin, however, discovered a blind spot.
He noticed Fenrir Graybuck's physical and behavioral characteristics, which led him to make a bold hypothesis.
Fenrir Greyback is very likely a werewolf!
So he told the committee members that Graybuck should be detained until the end of the next full moon, and released only after confirming that he was not acting abnormally.
This suggestion is perfectly reasonable, and it should have been taken seriously when professionals raised questions about it.
The next full moon happens to be just 24 hours away, and the verification cost is very low.
However, Lyle was mercilessly ridiculed by his colleagues on the committee.
As for Graybuck himself, he sat quietly without saying a word.
In this situation, Lyle, who was usually mild-mannered, became unusually angry.
He loudly accused the committee members of being irresponsible, because werewolves were "soulless, evil, and only fit to die," making no attempt to conceal his contempt and anger towards werewolves.
This behavior angered the interrogation committee, who ordered Lyle to leave immediately.
The committee chairman also personally apologized to Graybuck, who had been mistaken for a homeless man, and released him.
According to the rules, the wizard who escorted Greyback was originally supposed to cast a forgetting spell on Greyback.
To everyone's surprise, Lyle's judgment was correct; Fenrir Greyback was indeed a werewolf!
Before the wizard could even cast his forgetfulness spell, he was subdued by Grayback's two accomplices.
The three werewolves escaped.
Upon hearing this, Harry had a vague idea of what was going to happen next, and he slammed his fist on the table in anger:
"The Ministry of Magic is a bunch of good-for-nothings!"
All these years, it has remained the same.
Professor Lu Ping shook his head with a wry smile and continued:
"Neither my father nor I know what will happen next."
But I suspect Fenrir Greyback must have told his associates about my father's attitude toward werewolves—otherwise their retaliation wouldn't have been so swift and terrible.
One day, just before Remus Lupin's fifth birthday, he was fast asleep in bed when Fenrir Graybuck suddenly broke in, smashed open the window, and attacked him.
Fortunately, Lyle arrived in time and used powerful magic to repel Greyback and save his son's life.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
Five-year-old Lupin was bitten by Greyback and from then on became the werewolf that Lyle described as "soulless, evil, and deserving only to die."
This is exactly Graybuck's revenge on Lyle. Don't you hate werewolves the most and think they only deserve to die?
Then I'll turn your son into a werewolf and see if you'll let him die too!
One can imagine how much regret Lyle must have felt.
He merely echoed the common perception of werewolves held by those around him, yet he suffered such a devastating fate.
Even now, he cannot forgive himself for what he said in front of Graybury during the interrogation.
The other committee members involved in the trial were unharmed, and even the wizard who escorted Greyback away was alright.
Unfortunately, only his son, five-year-old Remus Lupin, would lose his mind during the full moon, suffer an extremely painful transformation, and become a threat to those around him.
"That's what happened."
Professor Lu Ping let out a long sigh.
Harry was speechless with surprise.
After a moment of contemplation, Sherlock asked, "These things must have been told to you by your mother, right?"
"how do you know?"
Lupin looked at Sherlock in surprise; he hadn't said that at all!
