Chapter 481 Mission accomplished!
“The air is getting thinner,” Emily checked her portable detector. “Oxygen levels are dropping, and carbon dioxide levels are rising.”
“This place is like the interior of a giant organism,” Dr. Banner observed the surrounding structures. “We may be moving towards its core organ.”
Sarah walked at the front of the group, her senses becoming even more crucial in this environment. "There's a huge space fifty meters ahead; that powerful energy source is there."
“Are there any other signs of life?” Lynn asked.
“Yes, but it’s strange,” Sarah frowned. “I only sensed one very powerful entity, but its energy signature was like it contained thousands of different consciousnesses.”
This description unsettled everyone. An entity containing tens of thousands of consciousnesses meant they were about to face a super symbiote formed by the fusion of numerous hosts.
"Everyone, check your equipment," Lynn ordered. "This may be the last and most powerful enemy we face."
They arrived at a vast underground space, which should have been a major subway interchange, but had now been completely transformed into some kind of biological nest. In the center of the space was a huge organic structure, like a giant cocoon or pupa, over ten meters high, its surface constantly writhing and emitting a faint but eerie light.
“My God,” Peter exclaimed, looking at the scene before him, “what is that?”
“The core of the symbiote,” Emma analyzed, “is where all symbiote activities are coordinated.”
As they observed, the enormous cocoon structure began to change. The surface undulations intensified, then it slowly began to crack. From the cracks seeped copious amounts of black mucus, emitting a nauseating odor.
“It’s hatching,” Emily said nervously. “We’ve arrived just in time.”
As the cracks widened, a gigantic figure began to emerge from the cocoon. At first, only tentacles and limbs could be seen, but soon, a complete form appeared before them.
This is a humanoid creature over five meters tall, but its structure is far more complex than that of a human. It has four arms, each thicker than a human waist, ending in enormous claws. Its head is also much larger than normal, with six eyes, each gleaming with a silver light. Most disturbingly, hundreds of human faces can be faintly seen on its body surface, each screaming silently.
"This is the ruler of the symbiotes," a deep voice boomed from the monster, but it sounded like a chorus of a thousand voices, "Conqueror of Earth, Knorr."
“Knorr?” Lynn repeated the name. “You’re the first symbiote to come to Earth?”
The colossal monster slowly turned to Lynn, all six eyes focusing on him simultaneously. "Yes, human. I arrived on your planet fifty years ago, waiting for the right moment to launch a full-scale invasion."
“Fifty years ago?” Dr. Banner exclaimed in shock. “That early?”
“Yes, Doctor,” Knorr’s voice was laced with sarcasm, “you humans are so foolish that you have never realized the real threat was right beside you. I have spent half a century studying your society, culture, and biological structure to prepare for this invasion.”
"So, the Shadow Alliance?" Lynn began to grasp the scale of the entire conspiracy.
“Just a tool of mine,” Knorr said dismissively. “Human greed and the thirst for power make them easily manipulated. I gave them some technology and abilities, and they willingly served me.”
“But the Shadow League has been destroyed,” Emma pointed out.
“Yes, this certainly surprised me,” Knorr admitted, “especially the cooperation between you so-called 'superpowered' individuals and ordinary humans. But that’s not important; my real plan has never relied on the Shadow Alliance.”
"What plan?" Lynn asked, while signaling to his team to prepare for battle.
“Assimilation,” Knorr answered simply, “assimilation of all higher life forms on your planet. I have collected enough genetic information and consciousness templates; it is time to begin the large-scale conversion.”
As he spoke, the human faces on Knorr's body became clearer. Lynn was shocked to discover that he recognized some of these faces—important figures who had disappeared over the past few months.
"Are they still alive?" Emily asked.
“In a sense, yes,” Knorr replied, “their consciousness, memories, and experiences are preserved within me. They are my windows into understanding human civilization.”
“That means they might still be able to be rescued,” Lynn realized this possibility.
“Even if it were possible, it wouldn’t be you who did it,” Knorr’s tone became threatening. “Your presence has interfered too much with my plans. Now, it’s time to end this.”
Knorr began its attack, its four arms moving simultaneously, each strike carrying devastating power. The first arm slammed down towards Lynn, who barely dodged, but the massive fist slammed into the ground, shaking the entire space.
"Spread out your attacks!" Lynn shouted. "Don't let it target all of us at once!"
The team members immediately spread out, attacking Knorr from different angles. But this enormous enemy was stronger than any symbiote they had encountered before.
Chen Kai attempted to teleport behind Knorr to launch a sneak attack, but Knorr seemed to anticipate his movements. When Chen Kai appeared, a massive arm was already waiting for him. Chen Kai barely managed to dodge with teleportation, but was thrown backward by the powerful shockwave.
"It can predict my teleportation!" Chen Kai reported in shock.
“I can sense everyone’s life energy,” Knorr explained. “Your every move is transparent to me.”
Peter tried to bind Knorr's arm with spider silk, but the silk was immediately dissolved by some corrosive substance when it touched Knorr's skin.
“My spider silk is not working!” Peter reported.
Carlos deployed an energy barrier in an attempt to block Knorr's attack, but the enemy was too powerful, and the barrier shattered upon first contact.
"My barrier can't stop it!" Carlos was sent flying, crashing heavily into the wall.
Emma unleashed her strongest freezing attack, causing the temperature in the entire space to plummet, but Knorr's body surface began to heat up, melting all the frost.
“Temperature attacks are ineffective against me,” Knorr scoffed. “I’ve adapted to all of your abilities.”
Dr. Banner finally lost control of his rage and began to transform into the Hulk. His enormous green body appeared and charged directly at Knorr.
The two colossal beings clashed head-on, the Hulk's fist striking Knorr's arm, the resulting shockwave causing the walls of the entire space to tremble.
“Interesting,” Knorr commented. “This mutated human’s strength is indeed impressive.”
But even the Hulk couldn't completely suppress Knorr. This symbiote overlord had four arms, capable of both attack and defense, and its experience and wisdom far surpassed the Hulk's raw rage.
"The Hulk needs backup!" Lynn observed the battle. "We must find Knorr's weakness!"
“Sarah, can you sense its weakness?” Emily asked.
Sarah focused her attention on analyzing Knorr's energy structure. "Its core is in the center of its chest, where there's an extremely powerful energy node. But it's surrounded by heavy defenses, making it difficult to approach." "Then we'll create an opportunity," Lynn decided. "Everyone attack simultaneously, creating a chance for me to get close!"
“Lynn, it’s too dangerous!” Emma said worriedly.
“This is our only chance,” Lynn insisted. “Knorr is too strong; conventional attacks are ineffective. We have no choice but to take the risk.”
The new tactic was put into action. Everyone attacked Knorr simultaneously, not to inflict damage, but to distract it.
Chen Kai teleported repeatedly, moving rapidly around Knorr. Although he couldn't cause any real damage, he disrupted its vision.
Peter abandoned the spider web attack and instead used his agility to climb up Knorr, harassing him from all angles.
Instead of trying to block the attack, Carlos created multiple small energy balls and shot them like bullets toward Knorr's eyes.
Emma continued to unleash freezing attacks, which, while unable to freeze Knorr, created a large amount of water vapor, affecting visibility.
Emily, meanwhile, was looking for an opportunity to inject Knorr with a large dose of neurotoxin.
The Hulk continued to confront them head-on, diverting Knorr's main attention.
In the chaos of the battle, Lynn began to approach his target. His movements were more precise and stealthy than the others, taking advantage of every cover and opportunity.
But just as he was about to approach Knorr's core, the cunning symbiote overlord sensed a threat.
“Foolish human, you think you can hurt me?” Knorr roared, reaching out an arm straight for Lynn.
But Lynn's reaction speed exceeded Knorr's expectations. He not only dodged the attack, but also grabbed Knorr's wrist as Knorr pulled his arm back, using the momentum to swing to Knorr's chest.
"Impossible!" Knorr exclaimed in shock. "You're just an ordinary human; how could you possibly have such reaction speed?"
“I may not be the kind of ordinary human you imagine,” Lynn replied, while simultaneously thrusting his combat blade toward the core of Knorr’s chest.
However, Knorr's defense was stronger than expected; the blade only pierced the surface of the black substance, failing to reach the core.
“Your attack is too weak!” Knorr attacked Lynn with his other arm.
At that moment, Emily seized the opportunity, rushed to Knorr's side, and plunged the prepared neurotoxin syringe into its body.
“Neurotoxin injection complete!” Emily reported.
The toxins immediately took effect; Knorr's movements became sluggish, and the human face on its body began to tremble violently, clearly indicating some kind of internal conflict.
"This is our chance!" Lynn shouted. "Everyone, attack the core with all your might!"
Taking advantage of the brief moment when Knorr was affected by the poison, Lynn used all his strength to plunge the combat blade deep into its core. This time, the blade pierced through all defenses and penetrated Knorr's life core.
Knorr let out a deafening roar of pain, and its body began to convulse violently.
"What...what did you do?" Knorr's voice became weak.
“I destroyed your core energy node,” Lynn explained. “Your fusion system is collapsing.”
Indeed, the human faces on Knorr's body began to disappear one by one, not from death, but from separation from the fused state.
“No, I’ve spent fifty years, and I can’t end it here.” Knorr struggled desperately.
But the damage had already been done and was spreading. Emily's neurotoxin continued to work, accelerating the separation process.
“All the human consciousnesses you devoured are rebelling against you,” Sarah sensed the internal changes. “You have lost control of them.”
As more consciousness separated, Knorr's body began to shrink, and its power rapidly dissipated.
“This is unfair,” Knorr said angrily. “I am a higher being, and you are just lowly single-celled organisms!”
“Perhaps we are not as advanced as you in biology,” Lynn replied, “but there is something you will never understand.”
"What?" Knorr asked in confusion.
“Teamwork and sacrifice,” Lynn said. “You only know how to devour and control, but we know how to protect and give.”
Knorr's body continued to shrink, and its six eyes began to lose their light. "Even if you kill me, there are other symbiotes that will avenge me."
“Then let’s continue the fight,” Lynn said firmly. “No matter how many enemies we face, we will never give up protecting this planet.”
The final blow was delivered by the Hulk. With all his might, he struck the already weakened Knorr in the head, and the massive impact finally ended the life of this symbiote overlord.
Knorr's enormous body collapsed and began to decompose. The black substance gradually dissipated, revealing many unconscious but still alive humans.
“They’re alive!” Emily exclaimed excitedly, and immediately began checking on the rescued people.
With Knorr's death, the entire underground base began to collapse. The organic matter on the walls lost its vitality and began to peel and rot.
“This place is going to collapse,” Peter warned. “We must evacuate immediately!”
"Take all the survivors," Lynn ordered. "Leave no one behind!"
The evacuation was arduous; they had to move dozens of unconscious people while simultaneously dealing with the collapsing building structure. However, through teamwork, they successfully brought everyone safely to the ground.
As they finally emerged from the subway entrance, dawn was breaking. On the streets of New York, military and rescue workers stood by.
"Mission accomplished," Lynn reported into the communicator, "The symbiote overlord has been eliminated, and all hostages have been rescued."
"Excellent work!" came the excited response from the command center. "Preliminary reports indicate that all symbiotic activities throughout the city have ceased." (End of Chapter)
