Chapter 465 The Power of Teamwork!
“Plans changed,” Lynn quickly adjusted his strategy. “We must deal with enemies from multiple directions simultaneously.”
The Corrosion Ability user noticed the new intruder and began launching corrosive attacks towards Lynn's location. The green liquid struck the machine behind Lynn, and the metal immediately began to smoke and melt.
“This attack is too dangerous,” Emily said worriedly. “If we get hit, the protective suits won’t protect us.”
Lynn observed the attack patterns of the Corruption user and discovered a rule: after each Corruption attack, he needed a short recovery time, about three to four seconds.
“Sarah, does his ability have any other weaknesses?” Lynn asked.
Sarah focused her mental analysis: "His ability consumes a lot of life energy, and continuous use will tire him out. Furthermore, I sense his corrosive power is more effective on organic matter than inorganic matter."
This information was valuable. Lynn noticed that some of the wooden shelves in the workshop had not been completely corroded, which meant that the wood had some resistance to corrosion.
“Emily, hide behind that wooden shelf,” Lynn instructed. “Approach Thomas only after Sarah and I have eliminated the threat.”
Just then, Marcus's voice came through the radio: "Lynn, the pressure from the front is too great. There's a mutant who can create clones; we can't hold on much longer!"
The situation is becoming increasingly complicated. Lynn must choose among multiple threats: rescue Thomas, deal with the Corruptor, and support Marcus and Carmen.
“Sarah, can you sense the location of all enemies at the same time?” Lynn asked.
“Yes, but you’ll need to concentrate,” Sarah replied. “However, I can provide you with real-time battlefield information.”
“Alright, focus on your perception and guide my actions,” Lynn decided.
Sarah closed her eyes, focusing all her attention on the battlefield. "The Corruption Ability User is preparing for another attack, targeting Thomas's bunker. Three more enemies are approaching from underground. The Clone Ability User on the second floor has created four clones, which are attacking Marcus."
"Where are Thomas's vital signs?"
“It’s weak, but stable,” Sarah said worriedly, “but if we don’t treat it immediately…”
Lynn made his decision. He burst out from behind cover, taking advantage of the gaps in the Corruptor's attacks, and quickly rushed towards Thomas's position.
Upon seeing Lynn's actions, the corrosive ability user immediately adjusted their attack target. Green corrosive liquid shot towards Lynn, but Lynn anticipated the attack's trajectory and successfully dodged it.
"Captain Wilson!" Lynn rushed to the trapped team's cover. "What's the situation?"
Captain Wilson also looked exhausted. "Lynn, thank God you came. Thomas was hit in the chest by that corrosive attack; the wound is deep. We've stopped the bleeding, but..."
Lynn glanced at Thomas's injuries. Although initial treatment had been given, the wounds looked quite serious and showed signs of corrosive damage.
“Emily!” Lynn called to the doctor, “It’s safe now, come quick!”
Emily rushed over with a first-aid kit and immediately began examining Thomas's injuries. "The wound is chemically corroded, more complicated than a normal wound," she quickly assessed, "but I can handle it."
Emily placed her hand on Thomas's wound and began to use her healing abilities. Warm white light emanated from her hand, and Thomas's complexion began to improve.
But the battle was not over. Enemies continued to surge out from underground, and the gunfire inside the workshop grew increasingly intense.
"Sarah, what's the situation with Marcus and the others?" Lynn asked about the overall battle situation while covering Emily's treatment.
“The clone ability user’s four clones are surrounding them,” Sarah reported in real time. “Marcus has sustained minor injuries, and Carmen is running out of ammunition.”
"Damn it," Lynn realized he had to end the fight here quickly to support his teammates.
He observed the location of the Corruption user and devised a risky plan.
"Captain Wilson, do you have flashbangs?" Lynn asked.
“There’s one,” Captain Wilson said, pulling out a flashbang.
“Very good, I need you all to fire at the Corruptor simultaneously to draw his attention,” Lynn explained the plan. “I will approach from the side.”
“It’s too dangerous. His attack could kill you,” Captain Wilson worried.
“Trust me,” Lynn said firmly, “I have a way.”
The plan was put into action. Captain Wilson and the other three agents simultaneously fired at the Corruptor, forcing him to defend himself. The Corruptor was indeed drawn in and began launching corrosive attacks towards their position.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Lynn circled around to the side, approaching the Corruptor's blind spot. When he reached the right distance, Captain Wilson threw a flashbang.
A blinding white light instantly filled the workshop, temporarily blinding the Corrosion Ability User. Lynn seized the opportunity, firing a barrage of high-concentration tranquilizer darts. All three tranquilizer darts hit their target, and the Corrosion Ability User staggered and collapsed.
“Main threat eliminated!” Lynn reported.
But the enemy underground continued their attack. Without the cover of the corrupting agents, the threat from these ordinary militants was greatly reduced. Captain Wilson and his men began to fight back, and the situation quickly reversed.
"How is Thomas?" Lynn asked Emily about her treatment progress.
“The wound is healing, but he’s lost a lot of blood and needs more time,” Emily replied. “At least five more minutes.”
“We don’t have five minutes,” Lynn said urgently as he heard Marcus’s distress call over the radio.
“Sarah, what’s Marcus’s exact location?” Lynn asked.
“Outside the main entrance, we are surrounded by four clones,” Sarah reported in detail. “The real clone user is on the second floor, controlling his clones to attack.”
Lynn made the decision: "Captain Wilson, you continue clearing out the enemies here and protect Emily and Thomas. Sarah and I will go support Marcus."
“I’ll go with you,” Captain Wilson requested.
“No, it’s more important for you to stay here,” Lynn insisted. “In case any more enemies emerge from underground, this place needs sufficient defense.”
Lynn and Sarah rushed out of the workshop and headed towards Marcus's location. Through the broken windows of the factory, they could see the battle raging outside.
Four identical clones are attacking Marcus and Carmen. Each clone has independent combat abilities, keeping the two struggling to keep up. Marcus's left arm is visibly injured, and Carmen's movements are not as agile as usual.
"What are the weaknesses of the clone ability?" Lynn asked Sarah.
“The real body controls the clone on the second floor. If the real body is attacked, the clone will disappear,” Sarah analyzed. “But the real body’s location is very well hidden, and it is protected by other enemies.” “Then let’s help Marcus get out of the encirclement first,” Lynn decided.
They attacked from inside the factory, suddenly appearing behind the clones. Lynn used EMF flares to attack the nearest clone, and Carmen immediately used this opportunity to counterattack the other clones.
The clones were forced to distract themselves, giving Marcus a chance to catch his breath. "Lynn! Great!" he shouted.
“Hold on, we’ll deal with the clone ability user,” Lynn replied.
However, getting close to the real body on the second floor was not easy. Other enemies were providing cover outside the building, and the clones quickly reorganized their attack.
“I have an idea,” Sarah suddenly said. “I can pinpoint the location of the real body precisely, if you could give me a sniper rifle.”
"Can you shoot?" Lynn asked.
“I learned it while serving in the military,” Sarah replied. “Although I’m not a professional sniper, it shouldn’t be a problem at this distance.”
One member of Captain Wilson's team was equipped with a sniper rifle. Lynn requested backup via radio.
“Captain Wilson, we need sniper support,” Lynn called out.
“Understood, Johnson is in position,” Captain Wilson replied. “Target location?”
“The second-floor east-facing window, but the target is difficult to spot,” Lynn explained. “We have someone who can provide precise location.”
Sarah took the communicator and began instructing the sniper, "The target is three meters behind the third window on the east side of the second floor, slightly to the left."
Johnson, an experienced sniper, successfully locked onto his target with Sarah's precise guidance.
“Target confirmed, prepare to fire,” Johnson reported.
"Fire!" Lynn ordered.
The sound of a sniper rifle rang out, and the bullet accurately struck the clone ability user on the second floor. Instantly, all four clones vanished, and Marcus and Carmen finally escaped the encirclement.
“All clones have disappeared, and the main threat has been eliminated,” Sarah confirmed.
Seeing the unfavorable situation, the remaining ordinary armed personnel began to retreat. Lynn did not pursue them, as the rescue mission was a higher priority.
"Marcus, Carmen, are you alright?" Lynn asked with concern.
“It’s alright, just minor injuries,” Marcus checked his wounds. “Compared to Thomas’s condition, it’s nothing.”
"How is Thomas?" Carmen asked.
“Emily is treating him, and he should be out of danger,” Lynn replied.
The four returned to the workshop. Emily's treatment was basically complete, Thomas's complexion had improved significantly, and his wounds had mostly healed.
"How are you feeling?" Lynn asked Thomas.
Thomas weakly opened his eyes. "Much better than before, thank you for the rescue."
Can it be moved?
“I should be able to,” Thomas said, sitting up with the help of his teammates, “I’m just still a little weak.”
“Then we must retreat immediately,” Lynn decided. “It’s not safe here; there may be other enemies.”
The evacuation went smoothly. Thomas was able to walk slowly with the help of his teammates, and Emily continued to monitor his condition.
Upon returning to the rendezvous point, Thomas was taken to a medical tent for further treatment. Although Emily was highly capable of treating patients, a thorough medical examination was still necessary.
“Excellent rescue operation,” Deputy Director Stone praised. “You not only successfully rescued Thomas, but also eliminated a key enemy stronghold.”
“Emily’s healing abilities saved Thomas’s life,” Lynn emphasized. “Without her, we wouldn’t have been able to stabilize his condition in time.”
“Sarah’s perception abilities are also key,” Marcus added. “The battlefield information she provides allows us to strike the enemy with precision.”
“This is the power of teamwork,” Deputy Director Stone summarized, “the effective cooperation between ordinary humans and superhumans.”
"What's the situation now?" Lynn asked about the overall battle situation.
"The outer outposts have been largely cleared, but the main base is facing stronger resistance than expected," Deputy Director Stone reported. "We need to reassess our attack plan."
“We are ready,” Lynn declared on behalf of the team. “Whatever support is needed, we can handle it.”
Less than half an hour after Lynn's team returned to the temporary command post following the completion of the rescue mission, Deputy Director Stone urgently convened a tactical meeting with all team leaders. The atmosphere in the meeting room was tense, with real-time satellite images of the Shadow Alliance's main base displayed on the large screen.
"Gentlemen," Deputy Director Stone began, "after the previous rounds of attacks, we have cleared the outer defenses, but the core area of the main base is putting up a very strong resistance. The enemy has utilized the complex internal structure of the buildings to establish multi-layered defensive positions."
The images on the screen show that the main base is a massive industrial complex, comprising multiple interconnected buildings. From the air, the entire base resembles a maze, with countless passageways, rooms, and hiding places.
“Our frontal assault has encountered strong resistance,” Colonel Reynolds added. “The enemy has set up numerous traps and firing positions along the main routes, and several mutants are defending key positions. At the current pace, it could take us more than ten hours to break through the core area.”
“But we don’t have that much time,” Deputy Director Stone said gravely. “According to the latest intelligence, the enemy is destroying important documents and relocating key personnel. If Viktor Sadov and the other key targets escape, this operation will have failed.”
Detective Parker stood up and pointed to the building structure diagram on the screen. "Our technical team has identified a potential opportunity. These buildings all have complete ventilation systems, and the ventilation ducts between the buildings are interconnected."
Detailed diagrams of the ventilation system were displayed on the screen. Lynn could see that it was indeed a complex network, extending from the outer buildings all the way to the core area.
“Theoretically, if someone could get into the core area through the ventilation system, they could bypass all the frontal defenses,” Detective Parker continued, “and launch an attack from an unexpected direction.”
“But the problem is obvious,” Colonel Reynolds frowned, “the ventilation ducts are extremely narrow, barely wide enough for one person to crawl through in most places. And the enemy has likely deployed defenses at key points.”
“More importantly,” Deputy Director Stone added, “once inside the ventilation system, there is virtually no way out. If they encounter enemies or traps, the personnel on the mission will face extreme danger.”
Silence fell over the conference room. Everyone understood that this was indeed an opportunity that could change the course of the war, but it was also an extremely dangerous mission. (End of Chapter)
