There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone. "Are you sure it's the ability to pass through walls?"

“I’m absolutely certain I have clear CCTV evidence,” Lynn confirmed.

"Where is the location?"

“A coffee shop on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, near Columbia University,” Lynn provided the specific address.

“We’ll send men over immediately,” Commander Blake decided. “This could be the activity of remnants of Project Vulcan. Hall, you did a good job detecting this threat in time.”

“There’s another problem,” Lynn added, “This coffee shop is where my sister works, and she’s unaware of the supernatural threat.”

“Understood, we will handle this carefully,” Commander Blake assured him. “If necessary, we will take measures to remove the memories of those involved to ensure the security of classified information.”

After hanging up the phone, Lynn immediately called Gwen.

“Gwen, don’t go to work at the coffee shop this afternoon,” Lynn said. “Tell them you’re not feeling well and need to take the day off.”

"Why? What happened?" Gwen asked worriedly.

“The thief we found is more dangerous than we thought,” Lynn explained. “Professionals will handle the situation, but you should stay away from there for now.”

"Brother, what did you find?" Gwen asked, frightened. "How dangerous could a coffee bean thief be?"

Lynn didn't know how to answer. He couldn't tell his sister the truth, but he also had to protect her safety.

“Believe me, Gwen, staying away from the coffee shop for now is for your safety,” Lynn insisted. “I’ll explain everything to you once things are settled.”

At 3 p.m., the FBI special operations team arrived at Moonlight Café. This operation was more discreet than the last; they disguised themselves as ordinary maintenance workers to avoid attracting public attention.

Lynn met up with Commander Blake at the scene.

"How's the situation analysis going?" Commander Blake asked.

"Based on the analysis of surveillance footage, the target has the ability to penetrate solid materials," Lynn reported. "He typically operates between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM, with each operation lasting ten to fifteen minutes."

"Where are the stolen items?"

“It’s mainly coffee beans, and some coffee-making supplies,” Lynn replied, “but I suspect the real target is those special coffee beans. According to the staff, the shop uses beans from a special source, which the owner gets through private channels.”

Commander Blake frowned. "Special coffee beans? This could be some kind of code name or coded message. Food was indeed used as cover to transport contraband during 'Project Vulcan.'"

“You mean these coffee beans might not be real coffee beans?” Lynn asked.

“Or perhaps something else was hidden in the coffee beans,” Commander Blake speculated. “We need to conduct a detailed analysis of the stolen items.”

Just then, a technical expert approached and reported: "Commander, we've detected unusual changes in the molecular structure of the rear wall. It does appear that someone frequently passes through this section of the wall."

“Very good,” Commander Blake nodded. “Tonight we’ll set a trap and capture him when he reappears.”

"What kind of trap do you need?" Lynn asked.

“We have specialized capture equipment for those with the ability to pass through walls,” Commander Blake explained. “By creating a molecular density field, we can temporarily prevent the ability to penetrate matter.”

Lynn was amazed by the high-tech equipment, but also pleased with the FBI's professional preparation.

"The operation is scheduled for 11 PM tonight," Commander Blake instructed. "Based on behavioral pattern analysis, the target is likely to reappear in the early morning hours."

At 2:20 a.m., the area around Moonlight Café was eerily quiet. Members of the special operations team remained hidden in various locations, awaiting the reappearance of the mysterious wall-walker. Commander Lynn and Commander Black, inside the makeshift command vehicle, monitored the situation at the café through multiple surveillance screens.

“The target usually appears around this time,” Lynn whispered. “Based on his previous behavior, he should be here soon.”

"The molecular density field generator is in place," the technical expert reported through the headset. "Once the target attempts to penetrate the wall, we will be able to trap it."

At 2:35 a.m., the thermal imaging equipment first detected the anomaly.

"Target approaching," the monitoring personnel reported, "approaching from behind the building."

Lynn stared nervously at the screen, seeing a blurry image of a heat source moving toward the back wall of the coffee shop. A few seconds later, the night-vision camera captured the target—a thin young man who looked to be only about twenty years old.

“He’s started,” Lynn observed as the young man walked toward the back wall.

The young man paused in front of the wall for a moment, seemingly making some kind of preparation. Then, an amazing scene unfolded: he walked straight towards the wall, his body began to become translucent, and then he passed completely through the solid wall and entered the interior of the coffee shop.

"Activate the molecular density field!" Commander Blake ordered.

Instantly, an invisible energy field activated inside the coffee shop. The young man who was walking towards the storage room suddenly stopped, looking confused. He tried to use his wall-passing ability again, but his body bumped into the wall and he couldn't pass through it.

"The capability has been disrupted," the technical expert confirmed. "The target is trapped inside the store."

"All units, move out!" Commander Blake ordered.

Members of the special operations team stormed into the coffee shop through the main entrance with swift and professional movements. The young man, seeing the sudden appearance of armed personnel, panicked and tried to escape but had nowhere to run.

"Don't move! FBI! Hands up!" a team member shouted.

The young man trembled with fear and immediately raised his hands. "Don't shoot! Please don't shoot! I'm unarmed!"

His voice sounded very young, and tinged with obvious fear. When the flashlight shone on his face, Lynn saw that it was indeed a very young boy, looking even younger than twenty, thin and pale, with terror in his eyes.

"Control the target," Commander Blake instructed over the radio, "and use the special restraint device."

A few minutes later, the young man was handcuffed with specially designed handcuffs that could prevent the use of superpowers. He was taken to a makeshift command vehicle for initial interrogation.

"What's your name?" Commander Blake began to ask.

The young man was still trembling. "My name is Daniel Parker, everyone calls me Danny."

"age?"

“Nineteen,” Danny answered softly. “Why did you break into this coffee shop?” Commander Blake continued, his tone stern. “Who do you work for?”

“What? Work for whom?” Danny looked confused. “I don’t work for anyone, I just want some coffee beans.”

This answer surprised both Commander Blake and Lynn. They had expected some complex conspiracy or the activities of a criminal organization, but this answer sounded far too simple.

“Coffee beans?” Commander Blake repeated. “You broke into private property just to steal coffee beans?”

“I know this sounds stupid,” Danny said, looking down, “but I really love the coffee here, and besides, I can’t afford it.”

Lynn began to realize that this case might be completely different from what they had imagined. "Danny, tell us the truth, why did you steal these things?"

Danny looked up at Lynn, tears welling in her eyes. "I'm a student at Columbia University, but my scholarship only covers tuition, and I'm struggling to make ends meet. Three months ago, I came to this coffee shop for the first time and tried their coffee. It was absolutely amazing, the best coffee I've ever had."

He paused for a moment, then continued, “But five dollars for a cup of coffee is too expensive for me. I tried to save money to buy it a few times, but I really couldn’t afford to come here often. Then I discovered that I could use my abilities to go in and get some coffee beans and brew them myself in my dorm.”

"How did you acquire your abilities?" Commander Blake asked, still suspecting it was related to "Project Vulcan".

“I don’t know,” Danny shook his head. “I’ve had this ability since I was little, and my parents don’t know why either. We’ve always been careful to hide it because we were afraid that people would think I was a monster if they found out.”

"Do your parents know what you're doing?" Lynn asked.

“I don’t know!” Danny shook his head hastily. “They absolutely don’t know! If they knew I was stealing, they’d kill me. My dad always taught me to be honest and upright, and if he knew…”

Danny started crying, looking like a child who had done something wrong.

Commander Black and Lynn exchanged a glance. The young man's reaction and words didn't seem like a lie, and if he were truly involved in "Project Vulcan," he wouldn't act so ignorant and fearful.

"Danny, besides the coffee beans, did you take anything else?" Lynn continued to ask.

“Sometimes I’ll take some milk or sugar, because you can’t make good coffee with just coffee beans,” Danny admitted. “But I never take money or anything valuable, I swear!”

"Do you know that your actions are a crime?" Commander Blake asked.

“I know,” Danny nodded, “I know it’s stealing, I know it’s wrong. But I really loved that coffee, and I thought taking just a little bit wouldn’t be a problem.”

Lynn began to realize they might be overreacting. The young man did indeed seem to be just a poor student who liked coffee but couldn't afford it, and his superpower just happened to allow him to commit theft.

“Commander Black, may I speak with you privately for a minute?” Lynn requested.

They got out of the command vehicle and talked quietly outside.

"Do you think he's telling the truth?" Lynn asked.

Commander Blake pondered for a moment. "His reaction is quite realistic, and if this is related to 'Project Vulcan,' it's on a ridiculously small scale. An international criminal organization wouldn't send superhumans to steal coffee beans."

"So what do we do?" Lynn asked.

“According to standard procedure, we should hand him over to the Paranormal Threat Management Division,” Commander Blake said, “but considering the low threat level and his voluntary cooperation…”

“I have a suggestion,” Lynn interrupted. “This case initially started because of my sister’s plea for help. Perhaps we can handle it in a more humane way.”

"you mean?"

“Let me handle this personally,” Lynn suggested. “After all, the real victim is the coffee shop. If they’re willing to forgive the child, perhaps we can find a solution that’s good for everyone.”

Commander Blake considered for a moment. “This isn’t really a high-threat case. If you can ensure he doesn’t use his abilities for criminal activities again, we can consider an informal approach.”

“Thank you for your understanding,” Lynn said gratefully.

They returned to the command vehicle, and Lynn continued talking to Danny.

“Danny, if I give you a chance to correct your mistakes, would you?” Lynn asked.

"What opportunity?" Danny looked at Lynn hopefully.

“First, you must promise me that you will never again use your abilities for any criminal activity,” Lynn said sternly. “Second, you must take responsibility for your actions and compensate the coffee shop for its losses.”

“I do!” Danny nodded hastily, “But…but I really don’t have any money to compensate.”

“Then let’s think of another way,” Lynn smiled. “Perhaps the coffee shop needs a new employee.”

The following morning, Lynn arranged a special meeting. Participants included: coffee shop owner Carlos Rodriguez, manager Mike, Gwen, and Danny. Of course, they didn't know Danny's true identity or superpowers; Lynn simply stated that they had caught the thief.

The meeting was arranged inside a coffee shop before normal business hours.

“Mr. Rodriguez, Mike, thank you for taking the time to handle this situation,” Lynn began. “I’d like to introduce Danny; he’s the person involved in the recent theft.”

Carlos Rodriguez, a Hispanic man in his fifties, looked quite serious. His expression showed some surprise when he saw the thin Danny.

"Is this the child?" Carlos asked. "He looks quite young."

“Yes, Danny is nineteen years old and a student at Columbia University,” Lynn explained. “He wants to apologize for his actions and take responsibility.”

Danny stood up and bowed deeply. "Mr. Rodriguez, Mr. Mike, I am deeply sorry for my actions. I know that stealing is wrong, and there is no excuse. I am willing to bear all the consequences."

Carlos scrutinized Danny. "Kid, tell me, why did you steal our coffee beans?"

Danny looked up and answered honestly, “Because I really love your coffee, but I can’t afford it. I know that’s not a reason, but it’s the truth.”

Unexpectedly, Carlos smiled. "You like our coffee?"

“I love it,” Danny said earnestly. “It’s the best coffee I’ve ever had. The taste… I’ve never tasted anything like it anywhere else.”

“That’s because these coffee beans are special,” Carlos explained. “They come from my family farm in Colombia, using a traditional recipe passed down from my grandfather.” (End of Chapter)
