Chapter 418 Demolition Plan!
Upon hearing this, Emily exclaimed excitedly, "That must be the doctor! He escaped to Alaska!"
“Very likely,” Lynn nodded, “but we need more evidence to confirm.”
Parker made a few adjustments on the computer. “I’ve contacted the civil aviation authorities and obtained the aircraft’s registration information. The owner is a shell company registered in the Cayman Islands, but we are working to track down the real controller.”
McLaren then walked into the technical department. "How's the situation?"
“Deputy Director, we’ve basically confirmed that the target escaped to Alaska,” Lynn reported. “They have a secret base there.”
McLaren glanced at the map. "Alaska's environment is extremely harsh, and the region is sparsely populated. If they have indeed established a base there, a rescue will be very difficult."
“But we must act,” Lynn said firmly. “If we let them continue their experiments, more innocent people will die. And, according to Dr. Richard’s analysis, they may be developing some kind of biological weapon.”
McLaren pondered for a moment. "Alright, I agree to organize the operation. But this mission is highly complex, and we need to prepare carefully."
“I need a professional team,” Lynn said. “At least six people, including a sniper, a demolition expert, a medical professional, and communications and technical support.”
“No problem,” McLaren replied. “I’ll assign your best agents to your team. But Lynn, are you sure you want to take Miss Emily with you? The operation in Alaska will be extremely dangerous.”
Emily immediately said, "I'm going! I know those experimental devices and procedures; they might be helpful to the operation. Besides, if I stay here, those criminals could find me at any time."
Lynn considered for a moment, "Deputy Director, Emily makes a good point. And she does possess some important information that could be crucial at a critical moment."
Although reluctant, McClaren eventually agreed, "Alright, but she must strictly follow orders and cannot act alone."
Over the next few hours, Lynn began assembling his action team. The first to join was sniper Mark Anderson, a 35-year-old veteran agent who had served in the Army Special Forces and whose marksmanship was among the best in the FBI.
“Mark, this mission might involve encountering mutant enemies,” Lynn briefly explained the situation to him. “You need to be prepared for unforeseen circumstances.”
Mark nodded. "I understand. I'll bring armor-piercing rounds and special ammunition to make sure we can handle any type of enemy."
The second to join was explosives expert Jack Thompson, 42 years old, with extensive experience in bomb disposal and demolition. His task was to handle various explosive devices that might be encountered, and to conduct a forced assault if necessary.
“Jack, the target base may have a sophisticated defense system,” Lynn told him. “We need your expertise to get through those obstacles.”
Jack patted his gearbox. "Don't worry, Lynn. Whatever their defenses are, I can handle it."
The third team member was Lisa Wade, a 38-year-old female doctor specializing in battlefield first aid and biosafety. Her expertise was crucial given the potential for dangerous biological experiments involving the target.
“Lisa, this mission might involve biological contamination,” Lynn said. “You’ll need to prepare appropriate protective equipment and antidotes.”
Lisa carefully noted down the requirements, "I will prepare complete biosafety equipment, as well as any medical supplies that may be needed."
The fourth member was communications expert David Lee, a 30-year-old technical specialist responsible for maintaining contact with headquarters and conducting electronic reconnaissance.
“David, communication conditions in Alaska are terrible,” Lynn cautioned. “You need to make sure we can contact headquarters at any time.”
David nodded. "I'll bring satellite communication equipment and electronic jammers to ensure uninterrupted communication."
The last to join was veteran agent Michael Davis, who will serve as deputy captain, assisting Lynn in directing the entire operation.
“Michael, your experience is crucial to this mission,” Lynn said to his old partner. “I need your help to develop a detailed action plan.”
Michael nodded seriously. "Lynn, we've been through many dangerous missions together, and this one will be no exception."
After the team was assembled, Lynn began to develop a detailed action plan. They would travel to Anchorage, Alaska, on an FBI private plane, and then transfer to a helicopter to reach the vicinity of the target area.
“According to satellite intelligence, the target base has three main buildings,” Lynn said, pointing to the map. “Our objective is to rescue potential victims, apprehend the criminals, and obtain all experimental data.”
"How is the enemy's firepower?" Mark asked.
“Based on our previous contact, they have at least a dozen armed personnel, including several mutants,” Lynn replied. “We must be prepared to face a superpowered enemy.”
Lisa raised her hand and asked, "If biological experiments are really being conducted there, do we need special protective measures?"
“Yes,” Lynn said, “we all need to wear biohazard suits to prevent contact with any hazardous substances.”
Emily, who had been listening quietly to the discussion, spoke up: "Based on my observations in the lab, their security system is very advanced, with multiple layers of electronic locks and surveillance equipment. Furthermore, that doctor is extremely cautious; he definitely has an escape plan."
“This information is very valuable,” Michael said. “We need to consider their possible escape routes.”
Parker then entered the conference room. "Lynn, I have updated intelligence. We've detected communications signals from the target base; they're preparing to relocate some important equipment and personnel."
"Where to move to?" Lynn asked immediately.
“The signals indicate they’re contacting a location in Northern Europe, possibly Finland or Norway,” Parker replied. “If we don’t act quickly, they might escape the United States.”
Lynn realized the urgency of the situation. "We must leave immediately. If they escape abroad, the pursuit will become much more difficult."
McLaren nodded. "Agreed. All preparations must be completed within six hours; we'll depart tonight."
Over the next few hours, the entire team was in a state of high alert, meticulously preparing. Weapons, communication equipment, medical supplies, and biological protective gear—everything had to be carefully checked.
As Lynn was preparing her personal gear, Emily came over.
“Agent Lynn, I’m very nervous,” Emily confessed. “Although I requested to participate in this operation, I’ve never experienced anything like this before.” “Nervousness is normal,” Lynn reassured her. “Even experienced agents get nervous when facing dangerous missions. The important thing is to control your emotions and follow orders.”
“I will,” Emily nodded. “I just hope to be helpful, not a burden.”
“You won’t be a burden,” Lynn said firmly. “Your experience and knowledge are invaluable to us. Besides, protecting your safety is our duty.”
At 8 p.m., the team assembled on the tarmac at FBI headquarters. A medium-sized jet was ready, and the crew was conducting final checks.
“Men,” Lynn addressed his team, “this mission is extremely dangerous, but also incredibly important. We must not only save innocent victims, but also stop a horrific plot that could threaten the lives of millions.”
The team members all nodded solemnly, indicating that they understood the importance of the mission.
“Before we set off, I want to emphasize the importance of discipline again,” Lynn continued. “In the harsh environment of Alaska, teamwork is key to survival. Everyone must obey unified command and not act alone.”
"Understood!" the team members answered in unison.
The aircraft engines started, emitting a deep roar. Lynn did a final check of the equipment list, making sure nothing important was missing.
“Emily, are you ready?” Lynn asked.
Emily took a deep breath. "Ready."
The plane slowly taxied to the runway and then accelerated into the air. Through the window, I could see the lights of New York City gradually shrinking and eventually disappearing into the night.
During the flight, Lynn continued to discuss the operational details with his team. According to the latest intelligence, the target base's defenses were stronger than expected, and they had to prepare for fierce combat.
"Mark, have you chosen your sniping position?" Lynn asked.
Mark looked at the terrain map. "I plan to set up a sniper position on the small hill on the north side of the base. It has a wide field of view and can cover most of the area."
"Jack, what about the demolition plan?" Lynn turned to the demolition expert.
Jack pointed to the architectural blueprints, "I suggest we breach here; it's the building's weak point. We can create a breach using directional explosives while avoiding excessive damage to the internal structures."
Lisa also prepared a medical plan: "I have prepared various antidotes and biological protection equipment so that we can deal with biological contamination promptly."
The plane continued its northward flight, and the scenery outside the window gradually changed from city lights to a vast wilderness. Occasionally, the green halo of the aurora borealis could be seen in the Alaskan night sky, beautiful and mysterious.
"Three hours to Anchorage," the captain reported over the intercom. "Weather conditions are good, and we are expected to arrive on time."
“Agent Lynn,” Emily said softly, “thank you for risking your life to save me. Whatever the outcome, I’m grateful for everything you did.”
“It’s what I should do,” Lynn replied. “Protecting innocent civilians is the duty of every law enforcement officer. And this operation isn’t just about saving you; it’s about stopping a huge conspiracy.”
After a six-hour flight, the plane finally landed at Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage. The moment the cabin door opened, a blast of biting cold air rushed in, causing everyone to shiver involuntarily. Although it was May, the temperature in Alaska was still below zero, and the ground was covered with a thick layer of snow.
"Welcome to Alaska," the captain announced over the intercom. "The current temperature is -12 degrees Celsius, with a wind force of 5. Please dress warmly."
As Lynn stepped off the plane, he immediately felt the unique desolation of Alaska. The sky was overcast, and distant mountain peaks were faintly visible through the clouds. Apart from a few buildings, the airport was surrounded by endless snowfields, with a few lone spruce trees standing tall in the wind and snow occasionally.
“The environment here is even worse than I imagined,” Emily said, pulling her winter coat tighter. “Why would criminals choose a place like this?”
“It’s precisely because it’s hostile that it’s so secluded,” Michael replied. “In places like this, it’s difficult for outsiders to get close, and government oversight is relatively low.”
Lynn looked around and noticed that the airport was not large, with only a dozen or so planes on the tarmac, most of them small private jets or cargo planes. This suited their needs perfectly—in such a place, any unusual activity would be easily noticed.
“David, contact airport control immediately,” Lynn told the communications specialist. “I need records of all inbound and outbound flights for the last three days, especially private jets.”
“Understood, Inspector,” David immediately got to work.
The team arrived at the airport waiting hall, which was warmer than outside, but not very spacious, and simply and practically decorated. Several photos of Alaskan landscapes hung on the walls, showcasing the land's grandeur and desolation.
Lynn walked to the service desk and showed his FBI badge. The person on duty was a local man in his fifties named Tom Wilson, who had worked at the airport for over twenty years.
“Mr. Wilson, this is FBI Agent Lynn Hall,” Lynn said bluntly. “We are tracking a dangerous criminal who may have recently fled north through this airport.”
Wilson examined Lynn's identification carefully, then nodded. "Detective, how can I help you?"
“I need to check the flight records for the last three days, especially the takeoffs and landings of private jets,” Lynn said.
Wilson thought for a moment, “There was indeed a strange private plane that took off the day before yesterday. I say strange because the plane’s destination was very unusual.”
"What's the destination?" Lynn asked immediately.
“There’s a small airport inside the Arctic Circle called Barrow Airport,” Wilson replied. “There are very few planes there, mainly because the conditions are too harsh. Besides, that plane was carrying a lot of cargo; it looked like scientific equipment.”
Lynn and Michael exchanged a glance. Barrow, located at the northernmost tip of Alaska, is the northernmost city in the United States, only about two thousand kilometers from the North Pole. If criminals were to choose it as a base, it would indeed be an extremely covert option.
"Do you remember any other details about that plane?" Lynn continued.
Wilson thought for a moment. "The plane was white, looked new, and had no obvious markings on the fuselage. The captain was a foreigner, probably Russian, and spoke with a heavy accent. Most strangely, they asked to fill up the fuel tank, as if they were going to take a long flight." (End of Chapter)
