Chapter 354 They've been watching you all along.
As the last rays of the setting sun disappeared behind the skyscrapers of Manhattan, the city began to light up, like a shimmering sea of stars. But in Brooklyn's abandoned docklands, darkness enveloped everything, with only a few dilapidated streetlights casting a faint glow, barely illuminating this forgotten corner.
Lynn Hall sat in a black van, peering through the window at the abandoned warehouse ahead. The two-story concrete building was dilapidated, its walls covered in mold and graffiti, several broken windows boarded up, and a corner of the roof had even collapsed. To the average person, it was just a desolate wasteland on the outskirts of the city, but Lynn knew it might be a gateway to the Black Raven organization.
"All teams, maintain radio silence and await instructions," Lynn whispered through his headset, then turned to Sarah Collins in the passenger seat. "Mark, are you sure the signal will be sent in twenty minutes?"
Sarah nodded, adjusting her tactical watch. "Yes, if his calculations are correct, that black phone will send an encrypted signal to the server in twenty-three minutes and forty seconds."
Lynn checked his equipment: a bulletproof vest pressed tightly against his chest, his trusted Glock 17 pistol in the holster, three flashbangs and two smoke grenades hanging on his waist, and most notably a small device behind his neck—this was Project X's mutant ability suppressor, which theoretically could interfere with a mutant's energy field within a five-meter range, temporarily suppressing their abilities.
"Alpha Team, are you in position at the southeast corner?" Lynn asked through his headset.
"Alpha team in position, good visibility, no suspicious activity detected," a deep male voice replied.
"Beta Group?"
"The Beta team is in position, covering the north and west entrances. Thermal imaging surveillance has been deployed."
Lynn took a deep breath: "The Gamma Group?"
"Gamma team in position, snipers have locked onto all rooftop and window locations."
Lynn nodded in satisfaction. The operation team consisted of thirty-two people, divided into four tactical groups, equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and surveillance equipment. But he knew in his heart that against mutants, this conventional equipment might not be decisive. The real key to victory was the suppressor on the back of their necks, and the specially made tranquilizer darts that each group was equipped with—these tranquilizer darts contained compounds that could temporarily suppress the expression of the X gene, theoretically rendering mutants powerless for a short period of time.
“I have a bad feeling about this,” Sarah said quietly, frowning. “It’s too quiet. If the Black Raven really had a base here, there should be more security measures in place.”
Lynn nodded thoughtfully. "You're right. Perhaps this is just a communication point, not a real base. In any case, we must seize this opportunity. This is the first time we've pinpointed the exact location of Black Crow."
Just then, Lynn's tablet lit up, displaying an encrypted message from Mark: "One minute before signal activation. Note: I have detected unusual electronic interference; someone may be monitoring your communications."
Lynn immediately became alert: "All teams, attention! There may be electronic interference. Switch to the backup channel immediately and prepare for action."
He quickly changed into his tactical helmet and night-vision goggles, then nodded to Sarah: "Ready to move out."
Suddenly, a blue light flashed through a warehouse window and disappeared in an instant.
"All teams, unusual activity detected! Take your positions immediately and prepare for a raid!" Lynn quickly gave the order, drawing his pistol, opening the car door, and moving discreetly toward the warehouse.
Sarah followed closely behind, the two moving silently like ghosts through the piles of containers and dilapidated machinery on the dock, gradually approaching the target building. The other three groups also converged on the warehouse from different directions.
When Lynn was only twenty meters from the main entrance of the warehouse, the entire building suddenly lit up with a blinding blue light, and all the windows flickered with unnatural electric sparks. A low humming sound emanated from inside the building, causing the ground to tremble slightly.
"It's some kind of energy fluctuation!" Sarah exclaimed. "It could be a portal or an energy shield!"
Lynn immediately realized the situation was dire: "All teams, storm in immediately! Repeat, storm in immediately!"
Almost simultaneously, four FBI tactical teams stormed into the warehouse from different entrances. Lynn and Sarah broke down the main entrance's iron gate, immediately seeking cover and scanning the warehouse interior.
The warehouse interior was far more spacious than it appeared from the outside, with an open space in the center surrounded by various electronic devices and computer terminals. Most striking was a huge circular platform in the central area, radiating a blinding blue halo, with what appeared to be a forming energy vortex at its center.
Five people stood around the platform, dressed in black uniforms with a raven emblem embroidered on their chests. The leader was a tall, burly man whose hands crackled with electricity, seemingly controlling the energy fluctuations on the platform.
"FBI! Don't move!" Lynn shouted, pointing his gun at the man controlling the energy.
Almost simultaneously, agents from the Alpha and Beta teams stormed in through the side and back doors, surrounding the five Black Crow members. Meanwhile, Gamma team snipers aimed at each target through the skylights in the roof.
The tall man turned his head, a disdainful smile on his face. He had a sharply defined face, and his eyes were an unnatural electronic blue, flashing with the same energy light as his hands.
“Lynn Hall,” his voice hummed with electricity, “we finally meet. Black Crow has been watching you for a long time.”
Lynn maintained his aiming posture and slowly advanced: "You know my name, so who are you?"
The man smiled. "You can call me Electricity. I was hoping to stay a little longer and chat with you, but it seems time is running out." He then winked at the four people beside him. "Prepare to teleport."
"Fire!" Lynn shouted, pulling the trigger.
The entire warehouse descended into chaos. FBI agents opened fire simultaneously, bullets whistling towards the Black Crow members. But shockingly, the man named Electricity simply waved his hand, and an electrical barrier formed in front of them, blocking all the bullets.
“What a pity,” Electricity shook his head, “I thought the FBI would present us with an even greater challenge.”
Just then, Lynn pressed the suppressor switch behind his neck. An invisible energy wave spread out, and the smile on Electric's face froze instantly, while the electricity in his hand dimmed noticeably.
"What?!" Dian Lie stared at his hand in surprise, a flicker of fear crossing his eyes.
Seizing the opportunity, Lynn ordered into the headset: "All teams, use tranquilizer grenades!"
Specialized tranquilizer guns fired simultaneously, dozens of tranquilizer darts flying towards the Black Crow members. Although his abilities were suppressed, his reflexes remained sharp; he swiftly leaped aside, dodging most of the darts, but one struck his shoulder. The other four Black Crow members weren't so lucky; three were hit by the tranquilizer darts and immediately collapsed unconscious. Only one petite woman managed to dodge, her hands suddenly transforming into liquid metal, which she swung at the nearest FBI agent.
“Sarah, grab the current!” Lynn shouted as he rushed toward the female mutant who had turned into liquid metal.
Sarah immediately ran towards the direction of the current, but although its power was weakened, the current was still agile. It rolled behind a computer terminal, pressed a few buttons, and the energy vortex on the central platform suddenly expanded, its flashing light almost illuminating the entire warehouse.
"Grab them! Don't let them activate the teleportation!" Lynn shouted, pulling out a flashbang, releasing the pin, and throwing it at the liquid metal woman.
The blinding light of the flashbang explosion momentarily disoriented the liquid metal woman. Lynn seized the opportunity, rushed forward, and locked her wrists with specially designed energy handcuffs. The inhibitors on the handcuffs immediately activated, and the woman's arms gradually returned to their normal shape.
Meanwhile, Sarah and several agents had cornered Electric. Electric appeared to be injured; the anesthetic in his right shoulder was taking effect, slowing his movements, but the ferocity in his eyes remained undiminished.
“Surrender, Electric!” Sarah shouted, gun raised. “You have nowhere to run!”
Electricity sneered, "Is that so?" Suddenly, he pulled a small device from his pocket and pressed the button on it.
The lights in the entire warehouse went out instantly, and all electronic devices simultaneously emitted a piercing buzzing sound before malfunctioning, including the FBI agents' communication equipment and suppressors.
"Damn it!" Lynn cursed, quickly switching to night vision mode, but it was too late.
Under the cover of darkness, Ignoring his shoulder injury, Electricity surged toward the central platform. His abilities seemed to have recovered somewhat; his hands crackled with electricity once more as he controlled the energy vortex on the platform.
"Stop him!" Lynn shouted, rushing towards the platform, but a powerful energy surge suddenly erupted from the platform, repelling everyone around him.
Electric stood in the center of the platform, the energy vortex fully formed, its blue light casting a ghostly glow upon its figure. He looked at Lynn, a victorious smile playing on his lips: "Next time we meet, Agent Hall, you'll witness the true power of Black Raven."
Lynn rushed towards the platform without hesitation, drawing his pistol and firing at Electric's leg. The bullet pierced the energy field and struck Electric's thigh, causing blood to gush out immediately.
The electric current howled in agony, but remained steadfast in its position, controlling the energy vortex. Its form began to blur, as if it were being enveloped by teleporting energy.
Lynn leaped onto the platform, attempting to grasp the current, but only managed to grab a wisp of ethereal energy. The current's body had already begun to disintegrate into energy particles, merging into the teleportation vortex.
"You'll never catch Black Crow," the electric voice echoed in the air as his body vanished completely into the energy vortex.
The next second, the energy vortex on the platform contracted sharply, then suddenly exploded, and a powerful shockwave spread outwards, knocking Lynn to the ground.
When Lynn struggled to his feet, the platform had completely shut down; the electricity had vanished without a trace. Emergency lights were switched back on inside the warehouse, illuminating the chaotic scene.
"Lynn! Are you alright?" Sarah ran over and helped him up.
Lynn shook her head, dispelling the dizziness before her eyes: "I'm fine. What about the current?"
“He escaped, through that damn teleportation device,” Sarah said, annoyed.
Lynn looked around. The three anesthetized Black Crow members and the liquid metal woman were already under the control of the agents and were being transported to a transport vehicle. Most of the electronic equipment in the warehouse had been burned out by the electromagnetic pulse, but some data storage devices might still be able to recover some information.
“We’ve caught at least four,” Lynn said, “and—” He walked to where the current had been standing, crouched down, and carefully wiped a pool of blood from the ground with a handkerchief, “we have his blood sample.”
Sarah's eyes lit up: "That means we can confirm his identity!"
Lynn nodded and carefully placed the blood-stained handkerchief into the evidence bag: "Notify the forensic pathologist; I want them to prioritize analyzing this sample, extracting DNA, and comparing it against the database."
Meanwhile, agents had begun searching the entire warehouse, gathering any possible evidence. Lynn walked to the central platform and carefully examined the mysterious device. The platform was made of a special metal, its surface engraved with complex circuits and symbols, and in the center was a circular energy focus, now charred black.
“This is some kind of teleportation technology,” Lynn pondered, “more advanced than any technology we know of.”
Sarah approached with a tablet: "Initial scans indicate that this platform is connected to at least six different energy sources, possibly for stabilizing the transmission process. But the primary energy source appears to be the power of the electric current itself."
Lynn nodded thoughtfully. "So without electricity, this platform might not be able to start. That's why Black Crow needs mutants; their abilities are a key component of their technology."
Just then, a technician rushed over: "Agent Hall, we've discovered a hidden basement behind the warehouse, containing a large amount of documents and equipment."
Lynn and Sarah immediately followed the technicians to the back of the warehouse. A hidden door led underground, and down a narrow staircase, they arrived at a spacious basement.
The basement was larger than the warehouse itself, with walls covered in surveillance screens displaying live feeds of various locations in New York, including FBI headquarters, police stations, and government buildings. Rows of computer terminals and servers hummed, and several workbenches held a variety of strange devices and weapon prototypes.
The most striking feature is a massive wall panel in the center of the room, covered with photos, documents, and maps, connected by red lines to form a vast and complex network. At the very center of the panel is a photograph of Lynn Hall, surrounded by annotations of his personal information, work history, and even his daily routine.
“Damn it,” Sarah said in surprise, “they’ve been watching you.”
Lynn approached the wall panel and carefully examined the information. Besides himself, there were photos of several other important figures on the wall, including Chief Wilson, the Mayor of New York City, several scientists, and entrepreneurs. Each person's photo was accompanied by detailed personal information and an assessment report. (End of Chapter)
