Chapter 331 He is not a monster, he is a kind of hero!
“No need, thank you.” Lynn walked closer to the wall with the Hulk, carefully examining the photos and reports. “I see you’re quite interested in the Hulk.”
Ethan's eyes lit up, with that sparkle that comes when someone talks about something they love. "It's not just interest, Lynn. I believe the mainstream media's coverage of him is completely misguided." He strode to the wall, pointing to a series of photos. "Look at these. Every time the Hulk appears, the media focuses on the destruction and panic, but nobody notices these details."
Lynn followed Ethan's finger and looked at the photos, which showed the Hulk in various scenes: a collapsing building, a fire, and a flood. But Ethan specifically highlighted the details that are easily overlooked: the Hulk protecting a child from danger, throwing an exploding oil tanker into an empty river, and using his body to shield the crowd below from a collapsing wall.
"You think he's helping humanity?" Lynn asked, his voice tinged with professional skepticism, but a hint of interest flashed in his eyes.
“I don’t just think, I’m convinced.” Ethan quickly walked to the computer and pulled up a video file. “Look at this. This is footage I hacked into from a security camera, footage that mainstream media has never played.”
The video shows the Hulk carefully removing concrete blocks in the rubble of an explosion to rescue buried survivors. Most striking is the Hulk's expression when a little girl is rescued: not the ferocious beast one might imagine, but rather full of concern and tenderness.
“He has consciousness, feelings, and moral judgment,” Ethan said excitedly. “He’s not a monster; he’s…a hero.”
Lynn stared thoughtfully at the screen, then surveyed the entire studio. "Is this why Black Hawk International wants to capture you? Because you have this information?"
Ethan's expression turned serious. "It's not just that." He walked to another corner of the studio, where a locked filing cabinet stood. He took a key from his pocket, opened the bottom drawer, and retrieved a thick folder. "This is the result of my investigation into Black Hawk International. They appear to be a private security company, but actually..."
He opened the folder, which contained numerous files, photos, and USB drives. "They're a secret paramilitary organization that hunts and studies individuals with superpowers. I have evidence that they're not just 'researching,' they're experimenting, experimenting on humans."
Lynn took the folder and flipped through its contents, his professional instincts allowing him to quickly grasp the key information. It included floor plans of the Black Hawk facility, personnel lists, financial flows, and unsettling medical reports and lab records.
"How did you get these?" Lynn asked, a hint of wariness in his voice. The way these materials were obtained might not have been entirely legal.
Ethan scratched his head somewhat awkwardly. “I have my methods. As an investigative journalist, sometimes you have to be creative in gathering information. But I can assure you, it’s all true.”
Lynn frowned but didn't press further. As an FBI agent, he understood the necessity of the gray area, especially when facing a potentially huge conspiracy. "So they arrested you yesterday to prevent this information from being released?"
“Yes, but I think there’s more.” Ethan walked back to the wall with the Hulk. “I believe Black Hawk is actively hunting the Hulk, not to protect the public, but to study him and replicate his abilities. Imagine an army of warriors like the Hulk, completely controlled by a private organization. That would be…”
“Disastrous,” Lynn finished his sentence, his expression grave. As a law enforcement officer, he knew all too well the dangers of the abuse of power.
Ethan nodded. “Exactly. And I think they’re close to success. According to my investigation, Black Hawk recently received a huge sum of secret funding for a project codenamed ‘Emerald Fist.’ I can’t confirm the specifics, but chronologically, it coincides closely with the Hulk’s recent appearances.”
“Have you considered,” Lynn began slowly, “that the Hulk might be connected to someone? Some ordinary person?”
Ethan's eyes lit up. "You think so too! Yes, I have that theory." He turned to another wall, where a series of photographs were displayed, all of the same person: a thin, somewhat nervous-looking scientist. "Dr. Bruce Banner, a leading scientist in the field of gamma radiation. He mysteriously disappeared after an experimental accident, just before the Hulk first appeared."
Lynn leaned closer to examine Banner's photo. "You think he's the Hulk? Or has some kind of connection to the Hulk?"
“I’m almost certain,” Ethan said. “The problem is, I don’t have direct evidence. Only a lot of circumstantial evidence and coincidences, too many coincidences to be mere coincidences.”
Lynn pondered, "If you're right, then Black Hawk International not only wants to capture the Hulk, but also Dr. Banner."
“Exactly!” Ethan exclaimed excitedly. “And I believe they already know Banner’s identity and are hunting him down. That’s why I must release this information as soon as possible to warn Banner and let the public know the truth.”
Looking at the determination and passion in the young man's eyes, Lynn couldn't help but recall his own youth, with that simple fervor for fighting for justice. But years of experience working for the FBI had also taught him that things were often more complex than they appeared.
“Ethan,” Lynn said seriously, “do you realize you’re getting into a potentially very dangerous situation? Black Hawk International clearly has the resources and determination to hunt you down, and they won’t give up just because of yesterday’s failure.”
Ethan took a deep breath, his expression resolute. "I know the risks, Lynn. But that's a journalist's job, isn't it? To uncover the truth, no matter the cost."
Lynn had to admire his courage, though he thought it was also somewhat reckless. "So what's your plan?"
Ethan walked to a special computer and entered a complex password. “I’m preparing a full report, including all the evidence and my investigation findings. Once completed, I will publish it simultaneously on multiple platforms to ensure the information spreads rapidly and cannot be completely blocked.”
The screen displays a nearly completed article titled "The Hulk: The Misunderstood Hero and the Plot to Hunt Him Down."
Lynn skimmed the beginning of the article; the content was detailed and compelling. "Your writing is very persuasive, but are you sure it's all true?"
“Every detail has been cross-verified,” Ethan answered confidently. “I may sometimes take shortcuts to obtain information, but I never compromise on the accuracy of facts.”
Just as Lynn was about to ask more questions, a rapid knocking interrupted them. Ethan and Lynn exchanged a wary glance.
"Are you waiting for someone?" Lynn asked in a low voice, instinctively placing his hand on the gun at his waist.
Ethan shook his head. "No."
Lynn gestured for Ethan to retreat to a corner of the room, then cautiously approached the door. "Who is it?" he called out.
“Ethan? It’s me, Gwen!” a female voice came from outside the door.
Lynn breathed a sigh of relief, recognizing his sister's voice. He opened the door, and Gwen Hall stood there, her blond curls slightly disheveled from running, her blue eyes filled with worry. She was wearing simple jeans and a white T-shirt, with a leather jacket over them, and carrying a heavy-looking backpack. "Lynn?" Gwen was surprised to see her brother, then quickly went into the room and closed the door. "Great, you're here too. How's Ethan?"
Ethan emerged from the corner. "I'm alright, Gwen, thanks to your brother."
Gwen strode over to Ethan and gave him a tight hug. "I heard what happened yesterday, it scared me to death!"
Lynn observed their interaction and noticed a closeness between them that seemed to go beyond ordinary friendship. After Gwen released Ethan, she turned to Lynn, "Thank you for saving him, brother."
Lynn nodded. "Just doing my job. But how did you know about yesterday? I haven't had a chance to tell you yet."
Gwen and Ethan exchanged a glance, hesitating for a moment. Finally, Gwen spoke, "Because I was also involved in Ethan's investigation."
Lynn's expression immediately turned serious. "What? Gwen, do you know how dangerous this is?"
“Of course I know!” Gwen said firmly. “But it’s important, Lynn. People need to know the truth. And I’m not just helping—I have my own professional contributions.”
Ethan explained, "Gwen is my data analyst. She helped me crack some of the Black Hawk's encrypted files; without her, I couldn't have obtained so much information."
Lynn looked at her sister, unsure whether to be angry or proud. Gwen had always been exceptionally intelligent, possessing extraordinary talent in computer science, but Lynn had never imagined she would use those skills for such a dangerous endeavor.
“You two,” Lynn said sternly, “do you realize you’ve attracted the attention of a dangerous organization? Those men yesterday were well-equipped and highly trained. If I hadn’t arrived in time…”
“But you made it,” Gwen interrupted him, “and now we’re being extra careful. We’ve taken extra security precautions.” She pulled a laptop from her backpack, “and I brought more findings.”
Ethan leaned closer excitedly. "You cracked those files?"
Gwen smiled smugly. “Not all, but enough to see some interesting things.” She quickly booted up the computer, entered a complex password, and pulled up several files. “These are internal communications logs from Black Hawk International. They are indeed hunting Dr. Banner, and they seem to have a dedicated team, codenamed ‘The Hunters,’ in charge of this mission.”
Lynn leaned over to examine the screen, his brow furrowed. The document mentioned a project called "Project Gamma," clearly related to replicating the Hulk's abilities. "What is this 'Emerald Fist' project?" he asked, pointing to a recurring codename.
Gwen and Ethan exchanged a worried glance. “Based on our speculation,” Ethan said, “this is a project aimed at creating controlled Hulk-human creatures. They’ve already experimented on prisoners and…volunteers.”
"And then?" Lynn asked, though he already knew the answer.
Gwen's expression turned somber. "Most of the experiments failed, resulting in the death or severe deformities of the subjects. But recent records suggest they may have made a breakthrough."
Lynn straightened up and paced back and forth in the studio, pondering all the information.
"What are you planning to do?" Lynn finally asked.
“Make everything public,” Ethan said firmly. “I’ve almost finished the entire report. Once it’s released, Black Hawk won’t be able to continue operating in the shadows.”
“But that will also make you public targets,” Lynn pointed out.
Gwen interjected, "We have a plan. Once the information is released, we'll immediately move to a safe place. I've set up an encrypted communication system that only we know how to access."
Lynn looked at his sister and Ethan, the two young men's eyes gleaming with idealism. He wanted to stop them, to protect them from danger, but he also understood that some things were worth the risk.
“Show me all your evidence,” Lynn finally decided. “If what you say is true, I may be able to launch an investigation through official channels.”
Ethan's eyes lit up. "You'll help us?"
“I will act based on the evidence,” Lynn replied cautiously. “If Black Hawk is indeed conducting illegal human experiments, then yes, I will use FBI resources to investigate them.”
Gwen excitedly hugged her brother. "Thank you, Lynn! I knew you'd understand."
Lynn hugged his sister back, but his expression remained serious. He turned to Ethan, "But I have conditions. I need to review your report before it's published. I need to make sure you haven't included any information that could directly endanger your lives."
Ethan considered it for a moment, then nodded in agreement. "A fair demand."
The three meticulously reviewed all the evidence. Gwen presented the encrypted files she obtained from the Blackhawk server, Ethan shared his investigation notes and interview transcripts, and Lynn provided professional analysis and advice, pointing out which pieces of evidence were legally sound and which needed strengthening.
“This connection is significant,” Lynn said, pointing to a document. “The Black Hawk’s contract with the military proves that government funds were used for Project Emerald Fist. This isn’t just misconduct by a private company; it could involve corruption within the government.”
Ethan quickly jotted down Lynn's suggestions while reorganizing his report's structure. Gwen, meanwhile, continued deciphering more documents, occasionally letting out excited exclamations.
“Lynn, look at this!” Gwen suddenly exclaimed. “I found Bruce Banner’s complete file. Black Hawk definitely knows he’s the Hulk!”
Lynn and Ethan immediately leaned over to look. The screen displayed a detailed file, including Banner's personal history, scientific achievements, and a detailed report of the gamma radiation accident that changed everything. The document clearly stated that Banner would transform into the Hulk under stress or anger. (End of Chapter)
