Chapter 189 Warm Brother and Sister

Hans nodded in agreement. "Right! We must do our utmost to track him down!"

So the two began to divide the work: Lynn was responsible for communicating with the laboratory to obtain more clues about drugs; while Hans was responsible for investigating Ward's possible hiding places and his connections with other gangs. Both of them were determined to bring Ward to justice.

The next day, sunlight filtered through the slits in the curtains, dappling onto Lin En's bedside. He rubbed his sleepy eyes and checked his phone. It was almost noon. Then, a message popped up on the screen. It was from his adoptive father, George: "Lin En, come home for dinner today. I have something to discuss with you."

Lin En frowned, a strange premonition welling up in his heart. He quickly replied to a message: "Okay, I'll be right back." Then he got up, washed up, changed into clean clothes, and drove to George's house.

Lin En's thoughts raced throughout the journey. He had no idea why George had suddenly asked him to come home for dinner, but his intuition told him that this meal might be more than just a simple one. "Lynn, where are you? We just received news that Ward appeared!" Hans' voice was anxious and nervous.

Lin En's heart sank suddenly. He looked at the cake and his family in front of him, and his heart was full of contradictions and struggles. He knew that leaving at this time would hurt his family, but as an FBI agent, he could not miss any opportunity to capture Ward.

The afterglow of the setting sun shone into the cozy living room. Gwen sat on the sofa, flipping through the school anniversary brochure, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. Lynn was busy at the coffee table nearby, sorting through recent work documents.

"Lynn, are you free tomorrow?" Gwen raised her head and looked at Lynn, with a hint of hope in her tone.

Lynn stopped what she was doing, turned around, and smiled gently, "What's wrong, Gwen? What's going on tomorrow?"

Gwen stood up, walked over to Lin En, and handed the brochure to him. "Look, tomorrow is our school's anniversary. There will be many interesting activities and performances. Can you come with me?"

Lin En took the brochure and glanced at the colorful schedule. He couldn't help but hesitate. He'd been very busy lately, and a case was reaching a critical juncture. He'd originally planned to work overtime tomorrow. But seeing Gwen's expectant eyes, he didn't want to disappoint her.

"Gwen, do you think this looks good?" Lynn held up an exquisite little pendant and waved it in front of Gwen.

Gwen took the pendant and looked at it carefully. "Well, it's very cute! It suits your temperament very well." She joked with a smile.

The two chatted and laughed as they came to a snack stand. Various aromas filled the air, making their mouths water.

"Wow, it smells so good! Let's buy some food." Gwen's eyes lit up and she pulled Lynn's arm and walked towards the stall.

Lin En smiled and nodded, "Okay, let's see if there's anything delicious."

Just as the two were choosing food, a tall and handsome boy walked over. He stared at Gwen with a confident smile on his face.

"Hi, beauty, are you alone?" the boy took the initiative to strike up a conversation.

Gwen was stunned for a moment, looked up at the boy in front of her, and then glanced at Lin En beside her, with a hint of embarrassment in her eyes. Before she could speak, Lin En had already blocked her way.

"She's not alone." Lynn said lightly, with a hint of vigilance in her eyes.

The boy looked at Lin En and didn't seem to take him seriously. "Oh? Are you her boyfriend?"

"It's not important." Lin En's tone was a little cold. "We are enjoying the school anniversary now and don't want to be disturbed." The boy smiled and didn't seem to be willing to give up. "It's okay, I just want to get to know this beautiful girl. You won't be so stingy, right?"

Gwen shook her head, "I'm fine. Thank you, Lynn."

"You're welcome." Lin En said, "Let's continue choosing food."

The two returned to the stall and continued to select food. However, the incident had dampened their mood. Gwen couldn't help but sigh, "Sigh, it was supposed to be a good school anniversary, but I didn't expect to encounter something like this."

Lin En smiled and said, "It's okay. I'm here and I won't let anything get to you." He handed the food to Gwen and said, "Try this. It should taste good."

Despite the unpleasant incident, Gwen's mood gradually improved with Lynn's company. They continued to stroll around the school festival and enjoy this special day.

Soon after, the two came to a stall selling handicrafts. Gwen was attracted by some exquisite small accessories. "Wow, these accessories are so beautiful!" She said excitedly, pointing to some earrings and bracelets.

Lin En took a look at the jewelry and found it very exquisite and beautiful. He smiled and said to Gwen, "If you like it, buy it."

They chatted as they walked, Gwen's face beaming with happiness, while Lynn would occasionally turn his head and gaze at her with tenderness.

"Lynn, I'm so happy today!" Gwen said excitedly, "Thank you for always being with me."

"Silly girl, why are you being so polite to me?" Lin En smiled and ruffled Gwen's hair. "As long as you are happy, I am willing to do anything."

The two chatted and laughed, and unknowingly walked into a relatively secluded alley. The alley was dimly lit, with only a few dilapidated street lamps flickering weakly. Lynn subconsciously held Gwen's hand tightly and looked around vigilantly.

Suddenly, a burst of hurried footsteps came from behind. Lin En and Gwen turned around at the same time and saw three figures approaching them quickly. The three people were wearing hats and masks on their faces, revealing only a pair of fierce eyes.

"Run!" Lynn whispered to Gwen, pulling her to quicken her pace.

However, the three men were clearly well prepared. They quickly caught up with them and stopped Lynn and Gwen in the middle of the road. One of them held a gleaming dagger in his hand and stared at them viciously.

"Hey kid, hand over the money if you know what's good for you!" one of them threatened, "Otherwise, don't blame us for being rude!"

Lin En looked at the three people in front of him coldly, and made a quick judgment in his heart. He knew that he couldn't let Gwen get hurt, so he let go of Gwen's hand and said softly, "Gwen, stand here and don't move. I'll take care of them soon."

After saying this, Lin En walked towards the three men. With his sturdy build and agile movements, he was engaged in a fight with them in a blink of an eye. Although the three men were armed with weapons, Lin En was not afraid at all. He skillfully dodged their attacks while looking for opportunities to counterattack.

Gwen stood aside, nervously watching the fight unfold. Although she knew Lin En was formidable, she couldn't help but feel worried as she watched him fight three knife-wielding assailants. She clenched her fists tightly and silently prayed for Lin En.

After a fierce fight, Lin En finally subdued the three men one by one. He walked over to Gwen and asked with concern, "Are you okay?"

Gwen shook her head, her eyes sparkling with admiration, "Lynn, you're amazing!" She hugged Lin excitedly, "Thank you for protecting me!"

Lynn patted Gwen's back gently. "Silly girl, protecting you is what I should do." He turned his gaze to the three robbers lying on the ground. "We have to call the police now."

Soon, the police arrived at the scene and took the three robbers away. Lynn and Gwen also went to the police station to give their statements. By the time everything was settled, it was already late at night.

The two walked out of the police station. Lynn looked at Gwen's slightly tired face and felt a little guilty. "Gwen, I'm sorry for letting you encounter this."

Gwen smiled, "It's okay. With you by my side, I'm not afraid of anything." She took Lin En's arm and said, "Let's go home."

The two walked home together, leaning on each other. Although it was late at night, their hearts were closely connected. Gwen's admiration for Lynn deepened, and Lynn secretly made up her mind to always stay by Gwen's side and protect her safety.

Lin En looked at Gwen's serious eyes and smiled slightly. "Actually, I'm a little nervous too." He said frankly, "But I know I can't back down. I have to protect you."

Hearing Lin's answer, Gwen felt a warm current in her heart. She looked at Lin deeply, then hugged him tightly, "Lin, thank you for always being by my side."
