Durin's Diary
Chapter 1009 The Emperor's Residence
Chapter 1009 The Emperor's Residence
At the top of the building, the God of Vengeance stood beside Dulin. The middle-aged man spoke with a hint of curiosity: "I thought you should be very proud, after all, you have ended an era. From today onwards, the ecosystem beneath your feet will usher in a new era, an era without evil gods."
“What’s there to be proud of?” Dulin looked at his hands. “I have gained power far greater than I had before, but now I can’t even hold a mace.”
The sun was setting in the west. Although the restaurant was already occupied, nothing had started yet. There was no electricity, no resources, and not even an AI waiter was ready.
Akar is trapped here by his memories, just like his colleagues.
Their souls were annihilated by Dulin's own hand; from this day forward, they will only exist in history books.
"What are you looking at?" he asked Dulin.
“Look at this city that exists in history. In my previous life, this city was very different from what I see on the map now.” With that, Dulin stood up. “I have to go.”
He stood up and stood at the edge of the rooftop: "And you?"
“My mission is over. This land has chosen its own god of vengeance. I come from another land, and since I am no longer needed here, I should leave.” He opened the portal, bid farewell to Dulin, and walked towards it.
“I will remember you.” Dulin nodded.
"I hope we'll have a chance to sit down and have a drink together sometime. Remember, if you ever come to Imprint City, go to the Angels & Devils Bar. That city is where homeless people like us find refuge." With that, he waved goodbye.
As he watched her walk into the portal, Dulin cast a Featherfall spell on himself and then leaped off the rooftop.
He landed in the plaza in front of the building, where a mace was stuck diagonally into the ground in front of the dead body of the evil god.
Two nameless figures stood there, one being the Primordial Creator and the Childless One, whom Dulin was familiar with, the quintessential grassland spirits.
The other was a young man who looked ordinary but had a very handsome smile.
The latter smiled at Dulin: "I am very satisfied to see new blood. Although your path is slightly different from ours, in this world, being free from distractions is enough to forge eternity. I am the original nameless one."
"Hello." Du Lin bowed, placing his hand on his chest.
“I heard your story from my old friend. I’m sorry, your era was already better than any other, so better that we didn’t have time to appreciate it.” The young man sighed softly as he said this.
“I understand. My mentor also said that living beings need to learn to save themselves in order to be worthy of redemption from a higher dimension.” Dulin said, looking at the body in the square: “Why hasn’t its corpse disappeared yet?”
“He is completely trapped in this area and needs a long purification process. The weapon you dropped is both a beacon and a seal. Don’t worry, mortals will not be able to find this place until the purification is complete,” the young man said.
"That's good. How about you guys?"
“We should be leaving now. This land has chosen its representative. My old friend, your Wufuzi, is the one who came from this timeline. I brought him thousands of years into this timeline to save everything in the main plane, so he can no longer save the world in this timeline. And for the sake of these indomitable souls, he ultimately chose you. You won’t blame him, will you?” the young man said.
Dulin smiled and shook his head: "I won't blame him. I had been wondering why he was unwilling to save this land, and now it seems that it is indeed similar to what I thought. Although there are some differences, the general direction is ultimately correct."
"That's good, young man. Your time is running out. After we leave, we will sever the connection between your world and the subspace, so you don't have to worry about some red-skinned brat bothering you every day." As the young man said this, he reached out and patted the head of the red-skinned boy standing next to him.
The latter grinned, looking unhappy.
Dulin was amused—he never expected that even a genuine evil god could be defeated.
After they had all left, Dulin turned to look at the skeleton and mace on the plaza, finally sighed, and stepped into the portal. ………………
When Dulin returned to the Candle Dragon Pavilion, Anta was already waiting for him. The girl was holding a first-aid kit. She checked Dulin over and finally breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that he had no external injuries.
Dulin smiled and extended his hand, and Anta placed her hand in Dulin's.
The calluses on her hands made her frown slightly, but she still held Dulin's hand tightly: "Your hands used to be so warm."
As she spoke, she strolled with Dulin through the garden, holding his hand as they walked through the shade of trees and the sea of flowers. Everywhere they went, flowers were blooming and green leaves were sprouting. Anta stood under the laurel tree, looking at the drooping branches, and took out a laurel wreath that had automatically curled up.
She put it on Dulin.
“You’ve changed, Dulin.”
"Yes, I've changed."
In response to Anta’s sorrow, Dulin smiled and replied, “I ended the Via Dolorosa of the four Old Ages, freeing them from the bondage of eternity.”
“What are we supposed to do?” Anta grabbed Dulin’s arm. “Your selflessness makes us feel like we’re so selfish. But we’re just selfish people trying to grasp happiness in vain. We’re not gods, we can’t be as selfless as you.”
“I know.” Dulin smiled and patted Anta’s hand. “Let’s go.”
"Where are we going?" Anta asked curiously as Dulin led the way.
“Let’s go to the square. I’ll take you to a nice place to see a monument forged from the bodies and souls of mortals,” Dulin said, leading Anta toward the entrance of the Candle Dragon Pavilion.
………………
The shoeshine man sitting at the entrance of the Zhulong Pavilion paused for a moment as he watched Mr. Dulin and his wife walk out of the Zhulong Pavilion.
As an agent under Chen Xiaohu, this was the first time he had seen Mr. Du Lin walk out of the Candle Dragon Pavilion with his wife instead of opening a teleportation portal.
He instinctively sensed something was wrong. If the customers hadn't been there, he would have gone to the public phone booth next door to call his boss right now.
Therefore, he had to speed up his actions.
After finally finishing shining the shoes, he took the customer's money—because the customer was satisfied, the customer paid an extra two cents.
After finishing, he shook the shoe-shining cloth, stood up, but found that he didn't know why he had to stand up.
I was being selfish.
He looked around in confusion.
Ultimately, he blamed it all on his somewhat numb legs, since doing this all day long was indeed tiring.
So he sat back down.
