Chapter 470 Airplane!
As Ron was eating, he leaned forward, trying to reach for something to eat, but he accidentally fell down.
"Huh?" Ron opened his eyes in confusion. He was stunned for a moment, and subconsciously reached down to touch the fabric beneath him. His fingertips touched a fluffy, soft material—a pillow that had appeared out of nowhere and was placed right under his back. It was just right; not only was he not hurt, but it was also very comfortable.
"Ron, are you alright?" Harry asked immediately, standing up from his seat and walking quickly to Ron's side. He reached out his hand to him, his face full of concern.
"It's alright, it's alright. Luckily, this pillow caught me." Ron shook his head with lingering fear, supporting himself with one hand on the ground and holding Harry's hand tightly with the other. He slowly stood up, brushed the dust off his clothes, and still looked a little shaken.
"That's right! Everything's ready!" Harry rubbed his hands together excitedly, his voice brimming with barely suppressed joy. As an active participant in this trip to France, he naturally had to take responsibility. He turned and called out to Sirius Black and the Longbottoms, who were still catching up not far away. After carefully checking everyone's luggage to make sure nothing important was left behind, he signaled that everyone could set off.
The group chatted and laughed as they walked toward the airport. Just as they were about to step into the airport gate, Ron suddenly stopped and stared intently at a large passenger plane slowly taxiing on the runway not far away. He was completely stunned.
"My Merlin!" He couldn't help but gape, his tone exaggerated to the extreme, his eyes wide open, almost bulging out of their sockets. "Look at that behemoth! Its size... its size is even larger than the dragon we saw in the Triwizard Tournament! This is unbelievable!" As he spoke, he subconsciously stretched out his hand to gesture the outline of the passenger plane, his face full of shock and disbelief, even his voice trembling slightly.
Ron's gaze was fixed on the large passenger plane, watching it slowly taxi, adjust its direction, and until the engines roared and it slowly lifted off the ground, rising into the blue sky. He remained with his mouth agape, his eyes filled with confusion and amazement, muttering to himself, "I always thought that something this big would have to flap its wings like a bird or a dragon to fly..."
The passenger plane soared higher and higher, its attitude incredibly stable. Ron exclaimed in disbelief once again, "I never imagined that its two huge wings would be completely stiff, without any movement at all! How can such a rigid 'plate of iron' fly into the sky?" As he spoke, he waved his arms, imitating the flapping motion of wings, his face full of puzzlement.
The Longbottoms stood side by side, their eyes slightly narrowed as they watched the passenger plane gradually shrink into a tiny dot on the horizon. Their faces were full of emotion. Frank Longbottom spoke first, his tone a mixture of admiration and bewilderment: "I can't believe that Muggles can build such a means of transportation. It's as if they possess some kind of special magic. It's incredible."
Alice Longbottom nodded in agreement, her eyes full of conviction: "Yes, to be able to carry so many people into the sky without a wand or a spell, the wisdom of Muggles is truly admirable."
"Who cares what principle it uses to fly!" Fred and George exchanged a glance, their voices filled with barely suppressed anticipation. The two brothers said almost in unison, "Anyway, in a little while, we'll be going inside this big guy's 'belly,' and then we'll experience it for ourselves and maybe figure it out!" Both of them had excited smiles on their faces, full of anticipation for the upcoming flight.
“I think you’re going to be disappointed.” Fleur Delacour shrugged slightly, spreading her hands, her tone tinged with helplessness. “I’ve never been able to figure out the intricacies of this Muggle-like ‘magic,’ and I suppose it’s not something that can be easily understood.”
“Oh…” Fred and George’s excitement faded slightly. They exchanged a glance and then turned to Dylan, clearly hoping to get an answer from him.
Dylan smiled at the expectant looks in their eyes and patiently explained, "This is actually the result of years of research by Muggles. It involves a series of complex knowledge systems such as aerodynamics and mechanical engineering."
This knowledge is too profound to be explained in a few words, and even if I explained it in detail, you would probably still find it difficult to understand.
Fred blinked, a look of surprise on his face, and said in an exaggerated tone, "Wow, even you used the word 'complex' to describe it. It seems that these Muggle flying machines are more complicated than we imagined!"
George reached out and gently touched his chin, looking quite serious as if he were giving the matter a serious evaluation. He then nodded and said, "Hmm... since you put it that way, the underlying principle must be very profound, something we can't easily understand."
Neville, Hannah, Harry, and the others nodded in agreement after hearing Dylan's words. For them, who had lived in the magical world for a long time, Muggle technology was already full of mystery. Now that they heard Dylan say this, they felt that the flight principle of the passenger plane was even more profound.
The group followed Furong Delacour into the airport. The security check went much more smoothly than expected. The airport was bustling with noise, with people coming and going shoulder to shoulder. The sounds of footsteps, voices, and announcements mingled together, making it as lively as a pot of water about to boil.
Neville opened his eyes wide with curiosity, looking around at everything. The rolling baggage conveyor belts and the electronic screens flashing text filled him with wonder. He couldn't help but exclaim, "There are so many people here! It's several times busier than King's Cross Station. I can't believe it!"
For these wizards who had lived in the magical world for a long time, even before officially registering as adult wizards, the Muggle facilities and living scenes they had seen along the way were already enough to amaze and fascinate them. The machines that operated without magic, the vehicles they had never seen before, were constantly redefining their understanding of the world. "No wonder Dad's always been so fascinated by these Muggle things," Fred and George said, their noses almost touching the glass as they pressed against the porthole in the waiting area, their eyes filled with curiosity and longing as they stared intently at the passenger planes that hadn't yet taken off on the tarmac. "These big guys are really interesting!"
Once on the plane, Hermione immediately took on the role of "instructor." She fastened her own seatbelt first, then turned to Ron, Neville, Hannah, and the Longbottoms, who were also looking confused, and patiently demonstrated: "Look, first unfasten this buckle, then wrap the strap around your body, and then insert this plug into the buckle. When you hear a 'click,' it means it's fastened."
As she spoke, she slowed down her movements to make sure everyone could see the steps clearly.
Ron, Neville, and Hannah watched Hermione's movements intently, then followed suit step by step. The Longbottoms were not to be outdone, and they earnestly learned how to fasten the "safety device" of this Muggle world. If the flight attendants saw this group of people who looked quite old but were staring blankly at the seat belts and studying so diligently, they would probably find it a bit strange.
Fortunately, everyone was sitting in the same area. Seeing this, Dylan raised his hand without making a sound and waved it lightly around, silently casting a confusion spell. This spell would make passing flight attendants subconsciously ignore the abnormality on their side and avoid arousing unnecessary suspicion as much as possible.
When the plane was about to take off and the flight attendants announced over the loudspeaker that everyone should fasten their seatbelts, Fred and George reluctantly left the window and returned to their seats. They followed suit, fastened their seatbelts, and stared intently out the window, waiting for the moment of takeoff.
The airliner's engines roared again, its speed increasing rapidly before it jolted off the ground and soared into the sky. Ron stared intently at the rapidly receding and shrinking scenery outside the window, his face filled with awe. He couldn't help but exclaim, "It's amazing! It really is flying! It feels like a dream!"
Fred gently placed his hand on the porthole glass, stroking it back and forth, feeling the cool touch of the glass, and said with a touch of emotion, "Hmm... this feeling of flying is much smoother than riding a flying broom, there's not a jolt at all."
George also shared his thoughts, leaning back in his seat and feeling the plane's smooth flight. He said, "It's quite smooth, but it lacks the thrill of speeding along and feeling the wind rushing in your face like riding a flying broomstick. It's a bit of a shame."
"Hey, George, look!" Fred said to George in a low voice, as if he had suddenly discovered something interesting. "We're flying this high now, but we can't feel any wind at all while sitting in the cabin. It's so strange!"
“That’s right!” George followed Fred’s gaze to the porthole, noticed his hand on the glass, and immediately understood what he meant. His eyes lit up, and he leaned closer and whispered, “Speaking of which, could we think of a way to open this porthole a crack and let the outside wind blow in and let us feel it?”
Dylan, sitting not far away, overheard the brothers' conversation. He immediately guessed their intentions, his face darkening as he said in a serious tone, "No! Absolutely not! This is extremely dangerous; you must not attempt it!"
Seeing the puzzled looks on the brothers' faces, Dylan explained further: "When the plane is flying at high altitude, the air pressure difference between the inside and outside of the cabin is very large. Once the window is opened, it will generate a huge suction force, which is enough to suck people or objects in the cabin out. Although we wizards may be able to resist this suction force, there are many Muggle passengers around. They simply cannot withstand such danger, and the consequences would be unimaginable."
Upon hearing this, Fred and George's curiosity was immediately replaced by surprise. They instinctively shrank back, no longer daring to consider opening the porthole. The people around them listened attentively to Dylan's explanation, their faces showing lingering fear, secretly glad that they hadn't acted dangerously out of curiosity.
Fred and George understood the deeper meaning behind Dylan's words perfectly. They knew that opening the porthole at high altitude would not only endanger themselves but also expose their wizarding identities, violating the Ministry of Magic's secrecy regulations.
"Hmm... In that case, we really didn't think things through..." The two brothers exchanged a glance, their faces showing a hint of embarrassment, and their voices became stammering, as if they were trying to process the dangerous consequences. "Doing this... seems really inappropriate, it's really too risky."
"Can't you two just behave yourselves for a moment?" Ginny, who had been chatting and laughing quietly with Luna, immediately turned around to chime in when she heard Dylan's warning and the Fred brothers' response. Her tone was tinged with a hint of helplessness as she warned, "What if the Ministry of Magic is already waiting for us at the airport as soon as we get off the plane? That would be a real problem."
She paused, then deliberately emphasized her words, reminding him, "If they say we violated the International Wizarding Secrecy Act and take us in for questioning, Mom and Dad will have to come all the way here to pick us up... You two should know better than anyone how serious the consequences will be, right?"
Upon hearing this, Fred and George indeed restrained themselves considerably, obediently nodding and temporarily abandoning the idea of opening the porthole. However, the two only verbally agreed and would not do anything too outrageous like "dismantling" the plane. Their curiosity and desire to explore this Muggle flying machine did not diminish at all.
Dylan couldn't help but smile at the brothers' feigned resentment, thinking of their father, Arthur Weasley. According to what Ron had mentioned in casual conversation, Mr. Weasley had always had a fervent interest in Muggle inventions. The Ford sedan parked in their yard was the most direct proof. After buying that used Ford, Mr. Weasley first disassembled the entire car, meticulously studying every part and structure, and then used magic to completely transform it, turning an ordinary Muggle car into a magical flying vehicle.
