Hogwarts: Starting with full Unforgivable Curses

Chapter 346 Fire dragons far surpass humans, how could Dylan be alright?

Three warriors from Beauxbatons entered the arena carrying magic wands.

Their tactical approach is very solid.

A warrior named Claudia Larosh took the lead.

Wave your wand toward the storage area at the arena entrance.

A pale golden summoning spell drew an arc in the air.

A silver-gray flying broom responded immediately, whistling as it flew into her hand.

She flipped over, mounted the broom, and with a gentle push off the ground, flew towards the direction of the ordinary Welsh green dragon.

It was clearly trying to attract the fire dragon's attention by flying.

"Oh! Using a flying broom to restrain a fire dragon! That's a novel idea!" Ludobagman's voice carried a hint of curiosity, and the amplification spell carried his words throughout the stands. "Judging from the model of this broom, it's a Comet 260, right? Lightweight and agile, it's perfect for close-quarters combat."

"I wonder if this idea was inspired by previous Quidditch matches? After all, when dealing with large creatures at high altitudes, the most familiar tool for wizards is the flying broom!"

at the same time.

Another warrior, Adele Lefebvre, stood at the edge of the arena, holding her wand in both hands and slowly drawing a circular path in front of her.

As the incantation was chanted, various materials began to appear on the ground.

Transparent water element crystals are neatly arranged in a semicircle, with dried evening primrose leaves spread between the crystals, and silvery-white tin powder sprinkled out fine patterns.

There was also a small bottle of spring water that glowed with blue light, which she carefully poured into the center of the material array.

Each time something is added.

She would always look down to check the position, her expression as focused as if she were completing a delicate handicraft.

Meanwhile, Fleur de Lacour walked alone toward the Swedish short-nosed dragon.

The tip of her wand was always surrounded by a faint purple glow as she moved slowly, occasionally tapping the air above the fire dragon's head.

Each time she pointed, the Swedish Short-nosed Dragon's attention was drawn to her, and it slowly followed her steps, moving towards the other side of the arena, gradually moving away from the activity range of the ordinary Welsh Green Dragon. Clearly, she wanted to completely separate the two fire dragons and prevent them from launching a joint attack.

Inside the tent, Harry watched Adele continuously summoning materials, his brow furrowing slightly, his tone full of doubt: "What exactly is Adele trying to do by summoning these things? Water elemental crystals, tin powder, evening primrose... these don't seem like materials used in conventional defensive or offensive magic. They can't be used to cast the Ironclad Charm, nor can they be used to directly attack a fire dragon."

“Didn’t you notice? These are all basic materials commonly used in alchemy.” Draco’s gaze fell on the neatly arranged materials, his fingers lightly tapping the tent wall beside him. “Water elemental crystals are used to gather water-attribute magic, tin powder is a medium for stabilizing energy, and evening primrose can enhance the duration of spells—they might be preparing some kind of alchemical array.”

“It could also be ritual magic,” Cedric added, his tone more certain than Draco’s. “I knew a pen pal from Beauxbatons who said that their school has two compulsory courses starting from the third year: ‘Basic Alchemy’ and ‘Introduction to Ritual Magic,’ and these two courses are often taught together.”

“The materials Adele is laying out now look like the framework for building a ritual magic circle—after all, for Beauxbatons, who are skilled in alchemy, ritual magic is the most familiar auxiliary means.”

"So, the Daily Prophet's previous report was right after all!" Harry suddenly realized that Rita's previous report mentioned that Beauxbatons might use alchemical tools, and now it seemed that was indeed the case. "I just wonder what this ritual magic circle will do after it's set up... It can't just be used to directly attack the dragon, can it?"

“Judging from the materials, it should be an array related to the Water Creation Spell.” Dylan’s gaze remained fixed on the water element crystals as he calmly explained, “The water element crystals can maximize the gathering of water-attribute magic in the air, while the evening primrose and tin powder can enhance the effect of the Water Creation Spell several times over—not only does the amount of water increase, but the spray range and duration are also improved.”

"Dragons breathe fire, so they're using water to block their breath?" Harry followed this line of thought and quickly understood the logic. "So, they're trying to suppress the dragon's fire-breathing ability directly with an enhanced water-making charm? That's a straightforward and safe approach."

Dylan nodded and added, "That should be the case. The amount of water from a regular water-making spell is too small to deal with the dragon's breath, but if it is enhanced by a ritual magic circle, the water-making spell can create an effect similar to a 'water curtain,' which can both block the flames and form a slippery layer of water on the dragon's body to slow it down—it's a strategy that combines offense and defense."

The process of Beauxbatons dealing with the fire dragon seemed somewhat uneventful.

The common Welsh green dragon is a gentle type of fire dragon. Claudia rode her broom and circled ten meters above its head. As long as it didn't get close to the nest area in front of it, it would only occasionally raise its head and spew out a few tiny sparks, and it didn't even bother to swing its tail much.

Although the Swedish short-nosed dragon is more irritable than the green dragon and its breath is hotter, Hibiscus dealt with it very patiently.

The tip of her wand always glowed with a pale purple light, and with each wave, it slowed the Swedish short-nosed dragon's movements by half a beat, as if it had been subjected to an invisible slowing spell.

Before long, everyone could see that the Swedish short-nosed dragon's reactions were becoming increasingly sluggish. Its once swift head-shaking movements now took a second or two to complete, and even the intervals between its breath attacks had become longer.

To keep the atmosphere in the stands from getting dull, Ludobagman decided to change his commentary and started telling a funny story: "Ladies and gentlemen, since the pace has slowed down a bit, let me tell you a little anecdote. Last year when I visited the alchemy workshop, I saw an apprentice trying to boil dragon's blood in an alchemical cauldron. He didn't control the temperature well, and the whole cauldron exploded, blackening the workshop ceiling! Now, seeing Adele's meticulous operation, I realize that true alchemical masters are even so particular about how they arrange their materials!"

Looking at the two docile dragons on the field, someone sighed with a complicated tone: "Beauxbatons is really lucky... The common Welsh green dragon and the Swedish short-nosed dragon are probably the two least ferocious dragons among all the participating dragons."

"If it were the Hungarian hornet dragon we were facing, even if we set up the ritual formation, we probably wouldn't have that much time to execute it."

Maria Wilman of Durmstrang nodded with a frown.

Franz Schmidt echoed this sentiment, his face showing obvious envy.

The Norwegian Ridgeback Dragon and the Hebrides Black Dragon they drew were much more irritable than these two fire-breathing dragons.

Sitting to the side, Viktor Krum clearly sensed the resentment in their tone. He raised his head, his gaze sweeping over everyone, and calmly said, "In a match, luck itself is part of skill. Encountering an opponent who suits your tactics is not accidental—the key is whether you can seize such an opportunity and turn your advantage into a result."

Isn't Beauxbatons' current strategy precisely making good use of this 'luck'?

His words instantly silenced the discussion in the tent, and everyone looked back at the field.

Adele's ritual array was now largely complete, with the water elemental crystals gleaming blue in the sunlight, and Claudia still riding a broomstick to restrain the green dragon.

Fleur slowly led the Swedish Short-nosed Dragon to the other side of the formation, and a steady, methodical challenge was progressing smoothly. "The Swedish Short-nosed Dragon...it's asleep?" Harry's eyes widened as he looked at the dragon, its eyes slowly closing, a few drops of drool even dribbling from its mouth, and it emitting soft snoring sounds. His tone was full of bewilderment. "That was too easy! Beauxbatons can actually put a dragon to sleep like that?"

“I also feel something’s not right.” Cedric frowned, his eyes fixed on the sleeping dragon. “Dragons have strong resistance to magic, especially adult dragons. To put such a large dragon into a deep sleep, magic alone is not enough. Usually, a special hypnotic potion is needed to make it effective. But I didn’t see Fleur use any potions just now.”

“Have you forgotten her lineage?” Draco suddenly spoke up, reminding her, “She herself admitted during the wand testing ceremony that her grandmother was a Veela, which means she has one-quarter Veela blood. You’ve all seen Veelas at the Quidditch World Cup, haven’t you? Their singing and appearance can influence a person’s mental state.”

He paused, then explained further: "Witches with Veela blood have a natural advantage over ordinary witches when casting mental magic. Their magic can more accurately interfere with the target's consciousness. Perhaps Fleur used this to her advantage, combined with hypnotic magic, to put the Swedish short-nosed dragon to sleep in a short time—which is why no one saw her use potions."

Harry and Cedric exchanged a glance, and then it dawned on them.

Recalling the moment when Fleur waved her wand, there seemed to be a very faint sound, like a wind chime, in the air.

I didn't pay attention at the time, but now that I think about it, it must have been a mental magic effect enhanced by the Veela bloodline.

Although Beauxbatons' tactics appeared conservative from the start.

The whole process lacked thrilling and exciting confrontations, but the effect was unexpectedly good.

With Adele Fever's ritual magic circle fully completed, she immediately took over Claudia Laroche's task.

She waved her wand, and immediately, jets of water as thick as bowls surged from the magic circle. The water jets converged in the air to form a water curtain, continuously spraying towards the ordinary Welsh green dragon.

While these water jets weren't enough to harm the fire dragon, they successfully disrupted its vision and movements, preventing it from focusing on finding its target.

Claudia Larosh seized the opportunity to mount his flying broomstick, circled the edge of the arena, skillfully avoiding the sight of the ordinary Welsh green dragons, and swiftly passed by the already unconscious Swedish short-nosed dragon.

Her goal was clear: the golden egg in the center of the arena.

However, the process of obtaining the golden egg was not without its obstacles.

Just as Claudia approached the golden egg, the cat and leopard that had been hiding in the iron cage suddenly broke free and pounced on her.

Fortunately, Fleur de la Claudia was prepared. She immediately rushed in front of Claudia and waved her wand to cast a protective spell.

A transparent barrier instantly formed, blocking the cat-leopard's first attack.

She then cast several more distraction spells, constantly restraining the cat and leopard's movements to buy time for Claudia.

The leopard quickly realized that Hibiscus was the biggest obstacle, and it suddenly changed direction and launched a fierce attack on Hibiscus.

The sharp claws tore through Hibiscus's protective barrier, leaving a deep, bone-revealing claw mark on her arm.

But Fleur did not back down. She gritted her teeth and persevered until she saw Claudia successfully lift the golden egg, at which point she slowly retreated, dragging her injured body.

After completing the mission, the three individuals were in different states.

Claudia Larosh had almost no injuries, except for a few branches on the tail of her flying broom that had been charred by the dragon's breath, indicating that she had been accidentally caught in the flames while taking a detour.

Adele Fever, who was not good at flying, suffered burns on her calves from the flames while dodging the breath of a common Welsh green dragon, and walked with a noticeable limp.

Fleur Delacour paid the highest price; the hem of her robe was burned beyond recognition, revealing several burn wounds on her exposed skin. The claw mark on her arm was oozing blood, making it look particularly gruesome.

Watch as Beauxbatons' three warriors left the arena accompanied by medical personnel.

Ludobagman, wand in hand, cleared his throat and spoke with great enthusiasm: "The warriors of Beauxbatons have completed this trial in a rather... rather methodical manner! Although there weren't many thrilling moments, their tactical planning and execution were undeniably outstanding!"

He paused, then raised his voice to announce, "In any case! Let's give a warm round of applause to the warriors of Beauxbatons for successfully completing the first test! Now, please welcome the members of the judging panel to give their scores!"

A round of applause erupted from the stands.

At this moment, Durmstrang's warriors left the tent.

There's no one here now.

Harry broke the silence first, his gaze falling on the direction of the arena outside the tent, his tone clearly hesitant: "Hungarian Hornet Dragon...that thing must be difficult to deal with—it's huge, and its breath travels so far."

Cedric and Draco both nodded in agreement.

The fire dragon was fifty feet long, and its breath could create a fifty-foot-long pillar of fire in the air, almost covering half of the arena.

What worries them even more is...

Dylan will not only face this one, but also the Norwegian Spinosaurus, which is of similar size.

Although the dragon's breath attack range was slightly shorter, it was more volatile. If both fire dragons attacked at the same time, just imagining the oppressive feeling of being surrounded by flames was enough to make one feel breathless.

“It’s certainly not easy to deal with, but it’s alright.” Dylan noticed the three’s worry and said calmly.

Cedric, Draco, and Harry all pursed their lips, knowing full well that Dylan was just trying to comfort them.

A fire dragon's stamina recovery speed far surpasses that of a human; how could it possibly be alright? (End of Chapter)
