Chapter 316 Win by Holding Down the Navy's Keyboard
Disasters often come one after another, giving people no chance to catch their breath.
However, Terra has clearly gotten used to it.
Within half a month, after sending away another Minister of Justice and numerous bureaucrats from his various departments, Terra finally learned what had happened in the Misty Starfield.
They did not take the loss of consumables due to the formation of a habit of changing products to heart.
For once, Terra, who had been preoccupied with dealing with a series of security risks, began to pay attention to external affairs.
Because the Wings of Dawn directly cut off the tithe that the Misty Starfield was required to pay to the Empire.
At the beginning of January 670, the year of the 41st millennium, the northeastern corner of the Qadia defense line began to gradually disappear.
The Skarus sector, located on the other side of the Eye of Fear, echoing the Cardia, was a vast production sector in itself. However, it was gradually overrun by traitorous forces that relied on the omnipresent Chaos Rift to advance eastward, as well as by a swarm of alien forces from the southeast, cobbled together from countless aliens.
Although the senior officers currently stationed around the capital of the Scalus Sector, and ordered by Romulus not to rashly enter the combat zone in order to preserve the naval mobility as much as possible, are unwilling or unable to openly refute the Primarch's plan.
But to these generals seeking glory, the southern region of the Scalus Sector was not far from falling.
That was a war zone that was destined to be lost.
It can no longer withstand attacks from the outside, or the costs required to continue occupying this area.
Terra also thought the same way and was eager to use this opportunity to question the Primarch.
'You can fight a war, but don't forget to pay your taxes.'
But something unexpected happened to Terra.
This vast area, occupying two-thirds of the northern region of the Eye of Terror, has become a huge battlefield for absorbing the power of the Chaos forces.
The Imperial people continued to retreat here, while patrol fleets transported the Star Force to fortresses on various planets to garrison and carry out harassment and interception missions, constantly hindering or delaying the invaders' advance.
Because the main force of the Scarus Sector fleet still exists, the Chaos forces began to become increasingly constrained after the battle lines were fully deployed.
Then came actions that even Terra and the Star District government couldn't understand.
While fighting and retreating, they adopted a scorched-earth policy, preserving key planetary nodes and relying on the still-intact naval power of the Skarus sector to intercept pursuing fleets, gradually relocating the Imperial civilian population in this area.
The Primarch took over the governance of more than twenty planets bordering the Skarus and Calissis sectors to absorb the losses from the other side of the sector, the tithes withheld, and the supplies stored in various warehouse systems in the Misty Sector.
And systematically transform this concentrated population into an army and productive force, reintroducing them into the vast southern Scalus sector.
During this process, the resistance forces, carefully allocated by the Wings of Dawn and stationed in various occupied territories, faithfully fulfilled their duties, constantly harassing and disrupting planetary production, making it difficult for the Chaos faction to digest these planets.
The large-scale migration of the population also deprived the Chaos faction of the most important sacrifices for their activities, making it difficult for them to rely on Chaos rituals to transfer these planets to the Eye of Terror.
If the Chaos's attack in this conflict was swift and unlike the rabble of the past, then the Empire's defense was meticulous and unlike the bloated fat man of the past who almost fell over when pushed hard.
Unlike in the past, the Empire easily took the punch.
With the Commander of the Imperial Guard reporting to the entire High Lords Council, Terrafon silently withdrew his impeachment proposal.
Due to limitations in population and military strength, as well as severe deficiencies in governance, the Chaos faction was simply unable to effectively control such a vast region.
What awaits them is a bloodletting that will continue until they leave.
"This was just a feint."
As usual, the main force of the Scalus Sector fleet received operational orders from the Primarchs through the Imperial Guard.
The Imperial Guard, Navaradaren, unfolded the star map, flanked by a garrison of Astartes. Navaradaren had been deployed to the front lines of the Skarus Sector, his authority and power ensuring the execution of orders and preventing further Imperial interference that could allow the Empire to continue its left-brain attack on the right.
Throughout his long career as a conductor, Romulus had learned one thing.
Rather than sending an entire company of Astartes into the meat grinder-like battlefield on the planet's surface, it would be better to station that company of Astartes at the Imperial Navy headquarters.
If these naval officers could be subdued by force to prevent them from falling ill, and if their physiological advantages could be used to provide them with appropriate data support, these Astartes could save far more of their brethren than they could save by fighting to the death on the planet's surface.
"The four most important spaceports in the Scalus sector are under our control. Our five battleships, nine cruiser squadrons, and thirteen frigate squadrons have not suffered serious losses. The Ofidian branch fleet has also achieved considerable success, repelling the Conqueror's attack and inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy."
"Because the Conqueror is short of manpower, this level of damage is enough to ensure that it cannot respond to the Iron Warriors' offensive operations."
"Therefore, we don't need to worry about the enemy fleet's unimpeded advance. We need to relinquish control of this planet and rely on our fleet superiority to cut off the enemy's support lines."
Navaradaren relayed Romulus's orders.
The naval officers listened quietly.
Although in theory they are on par with organizations like the Imperial Guard and the Astartes, it depends on what the other side represents now.
Some attempted to challenge the authority granted to them by the Primarch, and as a result, they have now vanished without a trace.
Their current duty is to follow the strategic plans formulated by the Primarch and then execute them perfectly by relying on their own excellent tactical skills.
Occasionally, faint voices would come from the crowd, which were reports that corroborated the Primarch's decision.
This makes one marvel at the intelligence network possessed by the Primarch.
After the Imperial Guard finished giving out a series of orders, many officers and their staff began to discuss the available information and, where appropriate, seek data assistance from the Astartes around them.
After doing all this, Navaradaren looked out the window.
An imperial civilization, now a region that needs to be completely abandoned.
A grand welcoming ceremony is being held on the planet.
The recent series of 'disastrous' battle reports from the Sector, along with rumors from all levels of society, have made the Scalus Sector somewhat turbulent. At this critical juncture, publicizing the arrival of a Guardian to further quell public unrest is an easy opportunity for the government officials.
This inevitably evokes a sense of sadness.
They were unaware of the intensity of the war; they were only thinking about how to prepare for the welcome ceremony, get a promotion and a raise, and maybe even have a small house built on the top floor of the hive capital in the sector capital.
Giving up such a planet requires a lot of confidence.
The Empire rarely made such a decision in the past because they simply couldn't move the planet's resources before chaos descended; they could only defend it to the death.
Fortunately, with the assistance of the Primarch and his established political apparatus, relocating the planet's population is not difficult.
Whether it's the Empire or Chaos, both are essentially human-centered. When the Empire possesses a powerful population transfer capability, the greatest gain that Chaos gains from conquering a planet disappears.
They could also try to forcibly organize so-called rituals, polluting the planet, but hopefully their gains will be a fraction of what they put in.
As the Imperial Guards faced the planet in deep thought, a staff member whispered to the Scalus Fleet Commander.
"There are indeed eyewitness reports of Chaos fleet activity along the way, but it has not been subjected to any powerful attacks so far. The speculation that Chaos may be organizing a feint attack is correct."
