A different world game? A different world game!
Chapter 890 Order
The entire "Steel Cliff" defense zone now seemed to have transformed into a giant, roaring furnace.
The air was filled with ferocious roars.
"For the sake of our fallen brothers—kill them all!"
"Don't let a piece of trash get away!"
"My fields! And my wheat fields!"
All the adventurers who come here, besides wanting to gain wealth, also want to gain land.
This was exactly the feedback the Night's Watch initially gave.
As more and more adventure groups established their own territories, the adventurers all realized—the Night Watch really did give them territory.
As for the conditions mentioned, the relevant politics and laws must be enforced according to the standards of the Night's Watch, who only have limited land rights.
But it doesn't matter, at least we can let them build things on it, at least we can let them cultivate it.
that's enough.
However, the opening of the void rift severely limited the speed of progress, and in addition, large numbers of expeditions were arriving from behind.
Those adventurers who were already stuck were extremely anxious.
Now, this constraint has finally been broken.
The buzzing and roaring of the magic cannons as they charged, and the whooshing sounds of ballistae firing—"bang—whoosh!"—piercing the air.
The muffled sounds of swords, axes, and hammers slicing into carapaces and flesh, and the whooshing sounds of arrows cutting through the air.
This place has clearly become an absolute battlefield.
Until the end of the world is resolved, war will be the only dominant theme here.
The sharp hissing and sizzling sounds of energy annihilation emitted as void creatures were crushed and purified.
The loud "bang!" of the engineering module being hoisted to the ground, the "sizzling" sound of metal welding, the "rumbling" sound of tracks rolling over the ruins, and the "humming" sound of the newly built shield being erected.
Besides these sounds representing war, there are vast scorched earth.
Even the smell in the air reflects the fact that this place is a battlefield.
The intense stench of blood, the ozone smell of burning crystal clusters, the stench of rotting flesh being purified, the charred smell of metal rubbing together, the earthy smell of soil being turned up, and the cloying, decaying sweetness of the void that was omnipresent but now suppressed by the radiance of order.
This is an ultimate crushing of chaos by order.
The Night's Watch, their steel torrent and will for vengeance intertwined, and guided by the sacred light of the obelisk, charged with unprecedented ferocity along a path paved with blood and crystalline remains towards the source of evil—the ever-shrinking void rift.
The turning point of the steel cliff has transformed into a destructive tidal wave that devours the void, rolling forward and determined to nail the abyss to this defiled land.
On the battlefield, a torrent of steel, carrying the fury of revenge, pierced the dark core where the void creatures dwelled, like a giant blade of molten lava.
The light of the Obelisk of Order opened up a relatively "pure" passage ahead, and the Night Watchers and adventurers raced forward along this purified, blood-soaked path.
Forward! Advance!
The land beneath our feet is changing rapidly.
What was originally just scorched earth, burned by gunpowder and energy, was gradually replaced by a deeper, more chilling black.
The earth looked as if it had been soaked in ink, or as if it were the desolate embers left after being burned to ashes by a raging fire.
The cracks, like wounds on the earth, covered the entire field of vision. From these deep fissures, wisps of eerie purple energy rose continuously, distorting the air and emitting a nauseatingly sweet and rotten smell.
Even more chilling is that, along the edges of the cracks and on the ground, clusters of dazzling purple crystals grow wildly like poisonous mushrooms, sharp and twisted, reflecting a cold and deathly hue when the obelisk's silver-gray light shines through.
In some places, there are even bizarre fleshy structures that are interwoven with dark red and purplish-black and whose shapes are hard to describe. They pulsate slightly like living things and secrete a viscous, corrosive liquid.
"Damn! This place! My feet feel sticky, like I'm stepping in an ancient mud pit!"
Daniel swung his giant axe, cleaving a Voidclaw Beast that tried to pounce out from behind the crystal cluster in two, cursing as he did so, oblivious to the thick, purplish-black blood splattering on his old, wounded face.
With each step he took, he felt an unpleasant suction from the black soil beneath his feet.
"Ugh... This cloying sweet smell in the air is a hundred times more disgusting than those cheap perfumes at the port!"
Lia frowned, suppressing her nausea, and with a wave of her staff, she released a ring of frost, freezing and shattering several half-crystallized Heartburst Beetles that had emerged from the side cracks.
She carefully avoided the throbbing flesh and blood on the ground, her eyes filled with disgust.
“Hey! Big guy, don’t mind the dirt. Look at these shiny purple stones.” Felchick seemed unusually excited. Even while rushing forward, he could still be distracted, using his dagger to pry off a small, relatively intact fragment of purple crystal and stuff it into his waist pouch.
"If we give this stuff to those alchemy fanatics, we might be able to get a good amount of money for drinks! Haha, this trip was worth it!"
He deftly dodged a pool of corrosive slime seeping from flesh and blood.
"Worth it my foot! Hurry up and catch up! There are still plenty of 'merit points' waiting to be earned ahead."
Martha's voice came from the side. She had just used a series of arrows to accurately kill several ranged void creatures hiding behind crystal clusters. Her eyes were sharp as she stared at the denser purple-black energy fluctuations ahead.
"Kill all these bastards, and I'm going to cultivate a field on this black soil. I don't care what color it is, I'll water it, sow the seeds, and I refuse to believe that crops won't grow."
Another human warrior roared as he cleaved open the crystallized joints of an infected rock-armored beast with his axe.
Anger, curses, excitement, greed—various emotions intertwined in the thick, polluted air, yet all transformed into the driving force for moving forward.
The Night's Watch's heavily armored forces advanced steadily, crushing everything in their path like a moving steel fortress.
The adventurers, like a school of agile piranhas, surrounded the main force, tearing and slicing it apart, ripping the Void creatures' desperately shrinking defenses to shreds.
The main team is in a very good position.
Just as the main force was frantically compressing the core area of the void rift, the primal beast horde of the rotten moss swamp on the flank, driven by their chaotic and savage instincts, keenly sensed the change in the battle situation.
Those terrifying purple-skinned crystal cluster monsters seemed to be losing their strength, and their suppressed madness erupted once again.
"Ouch——!"
"Hiss-!"
A deafening roar mixed with sharp hisses, and the swarms of filthy green swamp crocodiles, thorn beasts spewing poisonous mist, giant heart-piercing beetles, and bone-eating pangolins, like a raging tide bursting its banks, carrying mud, poison gas, and pure destructive desire, surged out once again from the flanking forests and swamps.
The Night Watchmen and adventurers, who were responsible for covering the flanks and preventing these chaotic creatures from interfering with the main attack, were initially watching their comrades advance triumphantly with some boredom, feeling somewhat helpless and frustrated.
"Damn it, look how much fun they're having! Are we just going to stand here and watch?" A mercenary carrying a long spear irritably slammed the shaft into the ground. "What's the rush? What if..."
Before he finished speaking, a deafening roar of a beast resounded across the flank!
"They're here! They're here!" The lookout's shout carried a hint of...surprise?
In an instant, the morale of the flank troops was like a powder keg that had been ignited.
"Damn it! They're finally here!"
"Hahaha! I was just looking for a place to vent my anger. Here comes a meritorious service delivered right to my doorstep."
"Brothers! Let's teach these brainless mud monsters a lesson!"
"For the sake of peace and quiet in my fields, kill them all!"
A cacophony of rough, ecstatic roars filled the air.
Unlike the battles against Void creatures, which were filled with solemnity and mental pressure, the Night Watchers and adventurers seemed much more at ease, even with a sense of cathartic relief, when facing these purely physical, chaotic monsters.
"Shield formation! Hold firm! Spearmen—thrust!" The Night's Watch officer's command was calm and forceful.
"Oh!"
The defensive line formed by the tower shields firmly withstood the onslaught of the swamp crocodiles.
"Pfft! Pfft!"
The enchanted spear, gleaming with a cold light, emerged like a venomous snake from its hole, piercing precisely through the gaps in the shield and sinking deep into the swamp crocodile's relatively soft belly and throat, drawing out a large plume of foul blood.
"Mage Corps! Unleash Flame Storm upon the Thorn Beast Horde ahead!"
On the other side, several elven mages waved their staffs in unison, and the scorching fire instantly ignited a large area of twisted plants that spewed poisonous mist, turning them into towering torches.
"Haha! That was great!"
Daniel, who was originally charging in the core area, was also attracted by the huge commotion on the flank. He was distracted and cut down an enemy before looking over there and grinning.
"These big oafs can finally stretch their muscles! Leah, give the brothers on the flanks some extra sauce!"
Lia understood, and pointed her staff at the densest part of the beast horde on the flank. A huge lava fireball roared down, causing a violent explosion and shockwave, instantly clearing a small area.
The battle on the flanks instantly intensified, with flashing swords, roaring magic, howls of beasts, and roars of warriors mingling together to create another wave of violent sound.
Without the eerie mental pollution and rule-eroding influence of the void, the pure physical combat allowed these seasoned veterans to fight to their hearts' content, their morale soaring.
Inside the main control room of the Order Obelisk, high above the battlefield, the atmosphere was solemn yet highly efficient.
The dwarven sage Lurek leaned back in his command chair, his face slightly pale, but his eyes remained as sharp as an eagle's.
His piercing chest wound was wrapped in thick bandages that radiated a soft, holy light. A focused priest of holy light placed his hands on the wound, guiding gentle yet powerful healing energy to penetrate it and dispel the lingering destructive aura of the void.
A bottle of suspended liquid was also poured down to help combat the ongoing damage caused by the "bleeding" rule.
Although the rate of seepage of the dark golden blood has slowed, it has not completely stopped.
The power of rules always leaves a lingering effect.
"...Sir, a report from the front!"
An adjutant wearing tactical goggles and standing ramrod straight stood in front of the holographic tactical map, reporting rapidly.
"The main attack force is advancing faster than expected! It has advanced more than 10 kilometers into the core area within an hour! It is currently making every effort to clear out the remaining resistance. The suppression effect of the Order Obelisk is excellent, and the organization of the Void Creatures has completely collapsed."
Lurek nodded slightly, his gaze sweeping over the blue arrow on the map that was rapidly shrinking toward the purplish-black core area.
The adjutant continued, "At the same time, our flank was attacked by a large-scale counterattack from the native beasts of the Rotten Moss Swamp. The size was about three standard groups."
"But our flank forces, relying on the pre-established fortifications and the spiritual barrier of the obelisks, have successfully resisted and are launching an effective counterattack. There is currently no risk of them being breached."
"The horde seems more inclined to attack areas contaminated by the remnants of the void creatures, but it is also putting continuous pressure on our defenses."
Lurek's gaze moved across the map, finally settling on a terrain node about 25 kilometers from the current forward position.
It was a relatively flat plateau edge, overlooking the Void Rift region below, and connecting to the path leading deeper inland and to another important pass.
He remained silent for a few seconds, watching the blue arrow representing his side's advance stubbornly stretch forward, almost touching the estimated limit of thirty kilometers.
"Order."
Lurek's voice was deep and carried an unquestionable authority as he pointed to the node at 25 kilometers on the map.
"All attacking forces shall immediately cease their advance and assume a defensive posture upon reaching this coordinate line."
The adjutant was clearly taken aback, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes: "Sir? There are still at least three hours until the estimated interruption period of the order intervention ends."
"We are on a roll now. The forward reconnaissance report shows that the resistance ahead has been greatly reduced. If we push forward with all our might, it is entirely possible to get within 30 kilometers or even less."
"Wouldn't it be easier to completely seal the rift if we shrink the encirclement even smaller?"
Lurik slowly shook his head, his gaze deep: "The thirty-kilometer line will indeed seal the rift more tightly. But look here,"
His thick fingers pointed to an area not far behind the 25-kilometer mark, marked "Black Rock Plateau".
"The 25-kilometer line encloses a larger area, which may seem loose, but its strategic depth is sufficient to build a solid forward base here and establish a permanent defensive node based on this plateau."
He paused, tracing an arc on the map with his finger: "More importantly, the location of this 'bulge.' It's like a wedge, wedged in the crucial path from the rotten moss swamp into the depths inland."
"With this base, we can not only lock down this void rift, but more importantly, it will become an excellent springboard for our expeditionary force to continue advancing inland and into the heart of the Taliel continent."
"The terrain of the plateau is easy to defend and difficult to attack, which is sufficient to establish a large-scale material transfer and defense fortress, to push our sphere of influence forward by a big step, to completely control this area, and to completely suppress or drive out the chaotic creatures around us."
"A perimeter that is too close to the rift, only thirty kilometers away, lacks depth, is vulnerable to counterattacks, and is unlikely to support large-scale expansion. Stopping here is to go further."
The adjutant followed Lurik's finger and train of thought, and the confusion in his eyes was gradually replaced by understanding and admiration.
He saw a much grander picture.
It was not merely a seal on a rift, but rather a pivotal moment that triggered a shift in the entire expeditionary force's strategic posture, pinning the forward bases directly deep into the interior.
"I understand, sir! The strategic significance far outweighs the tactical distance!"
The adjutant straightened his posture, his voice regaining its decisiveness. (End of Chapter)
