Chapter 874 Since ancient times, the Comoros has been an inherent territory of humankind (Seeking monthly votes)
"Damn it, why can't Kugas hold on anymore!"
"What will I do if it dies? How can I bring the Heart of Plague back?"
“Without a heart of plague, I cannot cleanse my sins to the Father.”
The devastating explosion triggered by Kugas's death not only destroyed most of the experimental base, but also shattered Typhon's hopes.
The Death Guard platoon leader roared in anger and despair. The feeling of hope being so close yet slipping away bit by bit almost made him faint from anger.
The cracks in the net only allowed Nurgle to send him and Kugas to Comoros.
But Typhons himself knew that compared to Krugs, Nurgle's most beloved, he was at best just an extra.
His strength is far inferior to Kugas's, so why send him to fight Ryan, Ruth, and Chagatai?
Even if Mortarian himself came, there would be absolutely no chance of victory.
However, Typhons failed to realize that Ryan didn't take him seriously at all; he was simply deluding himself.
The lion landed back on the ground, the psionic flames on the Lion Sword dimmed considerably. His cold gaze swept across the ravaged battlefield, finally settling on the Plague Heart, whose cover had been torn apart in the explosion and exposed to view.
This warp artifact was pulsating wildly, its emerald glow growing increasingly unstable, and it seemed highly likely to explode and self-destruct along with Kugas.
“Chagatai!” Ryan’s voice carried an unusual sense of urgency. “The Heart of Plague is spiraling out of control. You’re in charge of dealing with it!”
Chagatai also felt the violent pulse from the Heart of Plague, which seemed to be actively tearing apart the nearby network barrier, as if to expose the entire Comoros to the erosion of the warp.
"Leave it to me, all of you step back." Chagatai Khan took a deep breath and tried to mobilize the power within him that originated from the trials of the gods and had a subtle connection with the Heart of Plague.
This feeling was extremely faint, after all, the Plague Heart before him had not recognized Chagatai Khan as his master, and he was no longer the incomparably powerful "Plague King".
Chagatai Khan used all the goodwill he had in his life to soothe the hearts of those suffering from the plague caused by the war.
Whether it's the Tuchucha Engine, the Ouroboros, or the Heart of Plague, they all possess their own independent consciousness, and even a level of intelligence surpassing that of humans.
If one had to find a suitable adjective, the Khan was comforting a frightened child, but for the Chogoris Warhawk, this was far more difficult than fighting the enemy.
No matter how the Khan tried to appease it, the Heart of Plague seemed to have completely lost control and showed no signs of responding.
Khan suddenly felt his hands and feet turn cold, and the feeling of the situation spiraling out of control even made him feel a sense of despair.
They went to such great lengths, almost turning the entire Comoros upside down, just to obtain the Heart of Plague.
Once the Heart of Plague loses control and tears open the Web of Barriers, the power of Nurgle will instantly invade.
The Heart of Plague will fall into Nurgle's hands, which is undoubtedly the most passive situation.
Following this, the important Webpath node of Comoros will also be destroyed, and may even lead to a large number of warp demons entering the Webpath. These are all negative consequences of mission failure.
Ryan was extremely observant; he saw the helplessness and confusion that flashed across his brother's face and immediately realized that Chagatai Khan didn't have a good solution either.
The lion was also extremely unwilling, but he ultimately put reason above emotion. If the plague heart were to completely spiral out of control, then the most important thing to do now was to mitigate the losses.
"Retreat! Chagatai!"
However, it wasn't just Ryan who noticed Chagatai Khan's subtle movements; Typhon, who was with the Death Guard, was also incredibly excited.
He originally thought it was all over, the mission had failed, and the three Primarchs would take the Heart of Plague.
But now, things have suddenly taken a turn for the better. Kugas' self-destruction seems to have pushed the Heart of Plague out of control, leaving humanity helpless. This means that his mission has actually been successful.
"I will be the greatest contributor to this operation, and I will win my father's love!"
"This is my only chance, I can't let it slip away!"
Typhons's mind completed the thought process in an instant.
He suddenly realized that he could achieve even greater results—he not only had to win the Heart of Plague for his father, but also take down three Primarchs for him.
The Heart of the Plague is now on the verge of spiraling out of control, and humanity is still trapped in the Comoros, unable to evacuate immediately...
If he were to make a significant move and allow the Heart of Plague to completely destroy the Comoros's network structure, then Primarchs like Ryan would be trapped and die in the warp.
Nurgle focused most of his attention and power on the vicinity of Comoros. Even though the three Primarchs had unleashed their warp essence, they could not escape from the Father's grasp again.
This time, without that bitch Aisha as an inside agent, they can't escape right under their noses like Mortalian did.
Without hesitation, Typhons, driven by his own evil intentions, made up his mind.
He wanted to self-destruct like Kugas, completely igniting his psychic power.
Only by doing so can he ensure that the Heart of Plague is out of control to the greatest extent possible, and thus destroy the entire Comoros.
"Remember my name! It is I, Typhons, who defeated you!"
"Even my Primarch could not accomplish such a feat, but I can!"
Beneath Typhon's decaying helmet, his eyes burned with frenzied green flames, and he went completely insane.
Ruth also noticed the unusual movements of Typhons and the Death Guards. He shook off the filth on his body and let out a bloodthirsty roar. The wolf guards regrouped and pointed their spears directly at Typhons.
Typhons felt as if he had fallen into an ice cave. Lemanrus's chilling killing intent froze his nerves and even slowed down his thinking.
"For the sake of our loving father! Embrace eternal decay!"
Typhons let out a final, hysterical roar, his voice distorted by madness and despair.
Typhons aimed his giant scythe at his swollen, drum-like abdomen, which was covered with worms and pustules, and then swung the scythe violently, tearing out all his internal organs.
Like a mad Fenris wolf, Leman Ruth burst forth at top speed and charged toward Typhon.
However, Typhons was still a step ahead. He detonated his psionic energy, creating a more concentrated pyroclastic explosion than Kugas' self-destruction.
Typhons' entire body was instantly blasted into countless flying fragments of internal organs and a green, sticky, pus-filled pulp of flesh.
Beneath his tattered helmet, the remaining half of his face was frozen in a twisted expression that mixed extreme pain, mad pleasure, and infinite devotion to Nurgle.
Typhons knew he would die, but he believed Nurgle would see his contributions and that he would be resurrected by Nurgle's great power, returning in an even more powerful form.
The self-destruction, containing the full will and psychic power of Nurgle's chosen one, struck the Heart of Plague, which was already on the verge of rage, like a precise fuse.
Buzz—! ! ! !
The Heart of Plague suddenly paused, then erupted with an unprecedented and terrifying energy fluctuation.
The heart of plague beat at a heart-stopping frequency, and the last few layers of force field generators binding it emitted a piercing wail, shattering like glass.
"No!" The scene that Chagatai Khan least wanted to see still happened.
He tried to stop it, but it was too late.
Once the Heart of Plague is fully detonated, the entire Comoros may be blown to pieces, and the fragile network structure will be torn open with huge, unhealable wounds, allowing the filthy torrents of the warp to flow in without any hindrance.
Will this chaotic war involving humans, the Dark Eldar, and Chaos ultimately end in failure?
Despair, like a cold tide, began to spread in everyone's hearts.
But just as the torrent of energy unleashed by the Heart of Plague was about to engulf everything around it and destroy the very foundations of Comoros—
A golden ray, more radiant than the sun and warmer than hope, pierced without warning the decaying clouds of the plague's heart and the defilement of the Great Impurity.
Ryan, Ruth, and Chagatai all felt an incredibly familiar sensation rush into their minds, a feeling that stirred their very souls.
"This feeling is... of an emperor?"
"But the emperor isn't..."
Time seemed to freeze at this moment.
The frantically pounding heart of plague was instantly enveloped by a soft yet incredibly resilient golden halo.
The destructive energy torrent that was about to erupt was as if it had crashed into an invisible dam, forcibly suppressed and bound, as if it had been pushed back by a pair of invisible hands.
A radiant figure slowly descended amidst endless golden light.
“Father?!” Ryan’s voice was filled with disbelief and shock, and a trembling of near relief.
"Full Father?!" Lemanrus's eyes widened, the wild killing intent on his face instantly replaced by immense surprise. Then, the Wolf King smiled like a husky and relaxed completely.
With the emperor here, things are definitely settled.
Chagatai Khan softly called out the Emperor's name, and his tense body suddenly relaxed.
That familiar and awe-inspiring psionic pressure, like a stabilizing force, instantly dispelled the despair in their hearts and the chaotic gloom on the battlefield.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here," the emperor said softly, looking at his sons.
The emperor's gaze swept over his sons, and seeing that although they bore the scars of war, they were generally unharmed, he was silently relieved.
He knew that Comoros was not as simple as he had imagined. As an important node city of the former Spirit Empire, Comoros was hiding some unknown trump cards.
Once the trump card is played, Comoros will instantly become a death trap for all invaders, and the city will also completely collapse.
Ryan and his team's actions were somewhat reckless, but their courage was commendable.
The Emperor stretched out his hand, and the golden halo enveloping the Heart of Plague gradually contracted and solidified, transforming into a constantly flowing sphere composed of pure psionic runes.
He sealed this dangerous warp artifact completely, temporarily severing all contact with the warp.
The plague's heart beat one last time, unwilling to give up, before falling completely silent and hovering quietly within the cage of the emperor's will.
……
"The man-made network beneath Terra Palace has been largely repaired. We have successfully blocked the 'Fool of Magnus' and severed the path for the Chaos Gods to seize the Throne World."
"This is a great victory in stages, a milestone for humanity to escape a dark future and a tragic fate."
As the last piece of net material was ejected by the machine and then integrated into the gradually completing artificial net, the successive waves of warp demons were finally completely blocked outside the net.
The angry roars of the Chaos Gods still seemed to echo in our ears, but their minions were indeed powerless.
But after accomplishing this feat, the Emperor had no intention of celebrating. Instead, he led Loxi and the others directly towards Comoros via the underground network of passageways beneath the palace.
No one knew why the Emperor was in such a hurry, but everyone was willing to trust his judgment and rushed from Terra to the Webpath's mega-node city of Comoros. Guided by the Laughing God's messenger, humanity moved at an astonishing speed through the Webpath and almost never got lost in its intricate and ever-changing maze.
When the Emperor arrived with the elite human forces, the Cataclysmic Disintegration was still raging, and the legendary Comoros was also engulfed in war.
Countless warp demons and dark Eldar clashed in the sinful city of Comoros, where incredibly brutal killings and deaths took place.
However, the separation cannot last forever. When the impact of this catastrophe begins to weaken, the self-healing power of the network will heal the smaller cracks and re-seal the subspace's erosion.
Despite paying a heavy price, the Dark Eldar were able to survive thanks to their ancient heritage and massive size.
Of course, this is an ideal situation without external interference.
When the Emperor arrived outside Comoros with his human army, this ancient nodal city, which had been passed down from the era of the Old Spirit Empire, already had a new master.
Following closely behind the Emperor was a massive human army that had just expelled the warp demons from the artificial network and still carried the strong scent of war.
Clad in their iconic bright yellow power armor, the Imperial Fist, led by Rogdorath's imposing figure, marched with synchronized, steely steps, breaking through Comoros's burning defenses.
The roar of the slug gun instantly drowned out the remaining noise of the battlefield, ruthlessly and precisely reaping all non-human beings within its field of vision.
Whether it was the Dark Eldar who were still putting up a desperate fight for survival, or the warp demons whose forms were distorted by the will of chaos, they were all reduced to dust under the merciless barrage of fire from the Imperial Fist and the slashing of the power sword.
If they were still at their peak, perhaps humanity wouldn't have been able to achieve such a crushing victory. But the current situation is that the Dark Eldar and the Warp Demons fought to the point of mutual destruction, which conveniently benefited humanity.
Dorne's gaze swept across the ravaged battlefield, finally settling on the Emperor.
The Terra Guard Commander's resolute face remained expressionless; he merely nodded slightly before directing the legion to advance deep into Comoros like a golden dam, clearing out the remaining enemy forces and establishing a defensive line.
Fully armed, Perturabo and the Imperial Fist work side-by-side, as he efficiently slaughters humanity's enemies with his iron-ringed robot.
The Imperial Guards appeared beside the Emperor like golden lightning bolts, silently protecting their master.
The Silent Sisters released their soulless domains, like an invisible purification field, sweeping away and erasing any trace of the Comororian space demons.
More imperial elites—the Mechanicus's Guardians, the Astral Army, and the Iron Legion—flooded into Comoros like a tidal wave. They quickly took control of key nodes and crushed the remaining native resistance.
Unlike the human expeditionary force led by Ryan and others, the forces brought by the Emperor were far greater than those of these advance teams.
Even relying on the network, Terra and the elite forces within the solar system can directly reach Comoros and provide continuous support to the front lines.
The Heart of Plague was forcibly restored to calm under the Emperor's power, and the Primarchs, who had previously felt utterly hopeless, had now long since cast aside all their negative emotions.
Since the emperor himself has come, they don't need to worry about these trivial matters anymore.
Ryan, Ruth, and Chagatai stood before the Emperor. Although they were certain that this was the Emperor, they still felt a faint sense of disbelief.
In their memory, the Emperor must have fallen into a deep sleep while sitting on the golden throne in order to suppress the power of the Dark Lord.
No one knows when the emperor will awaken; it may be a hundred years, a thousand years, ten thousand years, or perhaps until the end of time.
Now, calculating the time, it should have been at most a hundred years outside the net. The fact that the emperor resolved the crisis so quickly is not just a surprise, but a shock.
"Father."
Ryan hesitated for a moment, which was uncharacteristic of him, before speaking first and asking tentatively.
"The net beneath Terra... and you and the Dark Lord..."
He had many questions: why the Emperor was able to leave the Golden Throne, the safety of Terra, and everything that happened outside during their conquest of Comoros.
The emperor's gaze swept over his sons, and Ryan and the others immediately sensed something was amiss.
They only felt that the current emperor seemed to have more of a human touch than before, and was no longer filled with the divine majesty of the past.
"The man-made network tunnel beneath Terra Palace has been largely repaired," the Emperor told his sons, who had been trapped in the tunnel, the good news.
This brief message, however, resonated like a thunderclap in the minds of the three Primarchs.
Repairing the network?
To seal the rift caused by Magnus?
How come they know nothing about something so big?
"The war that destroyed the ghoul orc empire is over." Loshi's voice rang out, continuing to stab Ryan and the others in the heart.
"After you left, Abaddon led his Black Legion in a surprise attack on the crypt world of Solemnus and released an ancient orc that had survived from the War of Heaven."
"The ancient orcs, with themselves at their core, created a terrifying enemy whose power surpasses even that of the former Ulanor orc empire. You also missed this great decisive battle."
Ryan and his two companions were completely numb.
"Is this…is this reasonable?"
They were all Primarchs who had experienced the War of Ulanor, so they naturally knew just how valuable an orcish empire of this caliber truly was.
However, they missed all of these major battles, and didn't even know when they started or when they would end.
Doesn't that mean they all won without lifting a finger?
"Of course, you don't need to blame yourselves, because Dorn didn't experience the war that destroyed the Orc Empire. Not long after you left the Empire, Dorn and Perturabo were caught in a spacetime turbulence and traveled through different timelines."
"It was Guilliman and Vulcan who held up the Empire. They withstood enormous pressure and single-handedly defeated the orcs."
Ryan was silent.
He and Guilliman didn't get along very well. The two Primarch brothers disliked each other, but that didn't mean they didn't have a deep brotherly bond.
“Fortunately, the Empire has Guilliman in charge,” Ryan said sincerely. “This is a blessing in disguise.”
“At the most critical moment, it was this… ambitious Macragans who stood up for the empire and protected humanity.” The lion muttered in a barely audible voice.
Ruth caught Ryan's whisper and immediately elbowed the guy.
"Hahaha! I knew I hadn't misjudged Guilliman."
"When we get back, I'm going to treat him to the strongest liquor and keep him in the net. I haven't had a drink in a long time."
Lothie then told the three Primarchs about the internal strife within the Cult and the origins of the Dark Lord.
These three guys have completely cut themselves off from the outside world. In their minds, a mere century shouldn't bring about much change, but in reality, the empire has undergone a complete transformation compared to a century ago.
Every piece of news stirred the hearts of the three Primarchs, yet was accompanied by a deep sense of regret.
They missed many things: the grand battles to defend the Empire and drive out the orcs; the crucial moment to set the Empire's faith right; and the instant they witnessed their father complete the Trinity plan and step down from the golden throne in a human manner.
Ryan gripped the hilt of the Lion Sword tightly, his knuckles turning white.
Ruth sighed heavily and pounded his breastplate with his fist, making a dull thud.
Chagatai Khan simply closed his eyes slightly, seemingly processing the enormous amount of information and the surging emotions within him.
A common thought came to their minds—what exactly had they accomplished after all these years of tinkering in Comoros?
They've been stuck in the net, and they don't have a good way to deal with Comoros.
They only learned of the existence of the Cataclysmic Dispersion when the Comorian ambitious leader, the ruthless conspirator named Victor, decided to cooperate with humanity.
Relying on the effects of the natural disaster, they finally broke into Comoros City, but then fought a terrible battle with the Dark Eldar and Chaos near the Heart of Plague. If the Emperor hadn't arrived in time, the Heart of Plague would have gone out of control and exploded, and all their previous efforts would have been in vain.
They might even fall into the warp and be captured by the Nurgle, who are already prepared.
The emperor looked at them, his gaze seemingly piercing through his sons' armor and seeing the turmoil in their hearts.
"The past is the past, children."
The Emperor's voice carried a peculiar soothing power, gently dispelling the gloom in the hearts of Ryan and the others.
"There's no need to dwell on the regret of not being able to participate; the established facts cannot be changed. What's important is that humanity has weathered those storms and stands at a new starting point."
The Emperor turned his attention to the ancient network city, ravaged by war yet still breathtakingly magnificent.
He had been to Comoros before, when it was under the rule of the Spirit Empire and was infinitely more prosperous than it is now.
Compared to their ancestors, the Dark Eldar are utterly unworthy of the Comoros.
In that case, it would be best to let humans take control of the Comoros.
"Comoro, this crucial node in the Web, was built by the Old Eldar Empire, but the Old Eldar era has long since ended, and their successors—the Dark Eldar—are nothing but a parasitic cancer that infests this place, spreading endless pain and depravity!"
As the emperor's words fell, an invisible spiritual energy swept across the land.
The spire sculptures scattered throughout Comoros, representing the twisted aesthetics and cruel rule of the Dark Eldar, the ruins of slave markets, the bloody and brutal arenas... all began to melt away as quickly as snow under the scorching summer sun.
The physical traces of the existence of the Dark Eldar are being forcibly erased by the Emperor's power.
The Comoros strictly forbid the use of psionic powers because the dark Eldar who use them project their souls into the warp, illuminating them instantly and attracting the covetousness and predation of the Slaanesh.
But now it is the Emperor who uses psionic energy, and he would love nothing more than to illuminate the soul of the entire Comoros and kill off all the dark Eldar hiding in the gutter.
Only when the Dark Eldar are all wiped out can the Comoros be completely controlled by humans.
"From this moment on, the rule of the Dark Eldar in Comoros comes to an end. Their sins will be completely wiped away. This place will serve as the core fortress and forward base of the human empire in the Webway."
"Dorn, Perturabo, I entrust the defense of Comoros to you. You must ensure that this place becomes an invincible fortress in the network, a bridgehead for humanity to control all the network."
“Yes, Father.” Dorn and Perturabo’s voices rang out like the clash of steel.
“Nios has always understood this tactic of setting aside disputes when in dire straits and pursuing success when successful.”
"Is the next step to declare that Comoros has always been human territory, and that the Dark Eldar are nothing more than thieves who stole human land?"
Just as Luo Xi was muttering to himself, the Emperor continued to speak.
"Although Comoros was created by the Ancient Spirit Empire, it was built within the Web Path and is an important node city of the Web Path. Therefore, the rightful successor of Comoros should be the Ancient Saint."
"The Ancient Ones have always been the Order faction fighting against Chaos. After the Ancient Ones perished, it was humanity that took up the banner of the Order faction, and it is humanity that is actively fighting against the encroachment of the Warp."
"Therefore, humans are the most legitimate successors of the ancient saints. Since ancient times, Comoros has been the inherent territory of humans, only it was occupied by those despicable and shameless creatures of the Dark Eldar before."
"Now, the Comoros have returned to the embrace of humanity, and this will be a new beginning."
Loshi was stunned; Neos had actually managed to smooth things over.
Beneath the dome of Comoros, the banner symbolizing the rule of the Dark Eldar was burned, while the banner of the Imperial double-headed eagle slowly rose from the ruins.
