Chapter 192: Ghost Out of the Cage
Chapter 192: Ghost Out of the Cage
The lion's beastly instinct was correct, and a horrific riot did occur on his Indomitable Truth.
The third surviving Primarch who had never appeared before, the ghost lurking on the Lion's flagship, seized the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The Lion left the flagship and headed for a meeting with Guilliman on the surface of Macragge, meaning a role reversal between prey and hunter aboard the Indomitable Truth.
The Midnight Haunter, who had been hiding in the dark tunnel of the Indomitable Truth for a long time, finally saw the scene he had been waiting for in the illusion that had tormented him all his life.
Lion, who had been chasing him for more than sixteen weeks, was now in Guilliman's castle. The Indomitable Truth was suspended in Macragge's low-Earth orbit, and the layers of orbital defense systems were at their weakest moment.
The time has come.
The Night Haunter hated his gift of prophecy. Those omens that haunted him like nightmares had always tormented his spirit. He had witnessed the burning of the galaxy, the bleak and hopeless future, and the human empire struggling desperately in hell.
When he sees a new face, the prophecy will tell him the ending of this person. Everything is destined by fate and his life is an inescapable tragedy.
If death were predictable, it would be meaningless.
"I am Conrad Curze, I am the Midnight Haunter." The figure in the dark muttered to himself, more like a spell, a prayer, or a judgment.
"My brothers know this dark fate better than I do. The Great Crusade is doomed to fail. My father's great cause will eventually become a dream and a bubble, just like his ship. Even without Horus, others will raise the tide of rebellion."
The omnipresent prophecy and the illusion that was indistinguishable from reality showed him one future after another.
In some futures, Guilliman becomes the chosen one of the Four Gods, the Lord of Chaos without Division, while in some futures, the Lion betrays the Emperor, and the Emperor's angels transform into fallen wings, stabbing his father with vicious swords.
It was endless pain, boundless fear, and powerlessness that could not be resisted. The Night Haunter believed that if anyone could share the same fate as him, then everyone would scream with him.
No one can bear this fate.
Through psychic prophecy, Curze was able to see the silhouette of the huge Indomitable Truth, a planet full of life.
That was Macragge, the home planet of his most innocent and luckiest brother. That damn Macragge man, why was his life so smooth?
He was worse than Llane, the only people who could compare to him were the stone-like Dorne and the damned but unkillable Vulkan.
"Guilliman, you exude a sense of honor and hope that makes me sick. Why, why are you the only one like this?"
"Why did you fall on Macragge, and I fell on Nostramo, that hell on earth, full of sinners, sinners that can never be killed!"
Koz's heart was twisted and tormented, he couldn't wait any longer, he had to let all his brothers see the cruel and vicious truth. It was not him who was crazy, but this world without a glimmer of hope.
If they could kill him after seeing the truth, that would be great.
If he was killed by his brother, then at least that would prove that the damning prophecy was not entirely correct, and that he should have died at the hands of the Emperor's assassins, beheaded by a Callidus Assassin.
And the brother who killed him would also be charged with parricide, which is the original sin of mankind, just as the Emperor's uncle murdered his brother, and the shadow of the first murder has been rooted deep in the human soul.
"Kill me, Guilliman, kill me." Midnight Haunter stepped out of the dark power duct and headed straight for the room he saw in the prophecy, where he could set all of Macragge ablaze.
Compared to the Lion who has been hunting him for a long time, Night Haunter hates Guilliman, who is shrouded in the light of happiness, more. He will become the number one target. He will see his beloved city flow in blood and those towers and buildings collapse in flames.
Thinking of this, every pore in Curze's body trembled with pleasure. He closed his eyes and walked through room after room, relying on the prophecies. He was like a veteran who had served on the Indomitable Truth for hundreds of years, moving through the most obscure passages with ease. Those phantoms, like flowing water, revealed to him the direction of the future.
Most of the time they are real, just like a child with a mischievous look showing the cards in his hand to the toys in front of him. They are real, but not correct, and Coze must judge their authenticity by himself.
Midnight Haunter saw a sealed door leading to space, with a string of numbers 99/2 marked on the rusted metal.
He smiled, as if talking to a group of beings watching him from the void.
"You want me to go this way? Then I'll go."
In sixteen minutes, Curze passed through the cargo door of Deck 99 and came out of the closed cabin into the cold space. The powerful force of the Primarch tore the door apart and threw it away. He looked directly at the sun in its prime with his naked eyes.
Unfortunately, in the foreseeable future this sun will not deteriorate and explode like the sun on Calth, devastating the world in ruins with its vicious radiation.
He turned his body nimbly in the void, facing the star of Macragge illuminated by the stars. Those huge and complex orbits crisscrossed in the void.
Midnight Haunter was not carrying a helmet, and the lack of oxygen in the environment could not kill these superhuman bodies. He just felt a little chest tightness and the skin on his face was a little cold, which reminded him of the cold rainy night in Nostramo.
A cold body floated outside the 22/3 hatch. A maintenance team would be dispatched from this hatch to repair their flagship, and Midnight Haunter only had to wait here.
"One second, two seconds..."
Conrad Curze counted down in the cold void, and when the number reached eighteen, a Dark Angel assault team rushed out of the sealed cabin. These warriors, equipped with boarding shields and jet packs, had the Hurricane Wing logo engraved on their power armor.
These were the Hurricane Wings from his brother legion that specialized in boarding operations. This time the illusions were wrong, for it was not a maintenance team that came, but fully-armed Dark Angels.
Ryan's warriors maintained 100% patience and vigilance, but unfortunately, they were facing the Midnight Haunter.
Curze's power armor was severely damaged, and the only weapons left were the pair of adamantium power claws on his hands named Mercy and Forgiveness.
The Dark Angels team that arrived had already spotted the Midnight Haunter floating in space on the auspicious instrument. They stood at the critical point between the cabin and space, locking onto the target with their deadly bolters and plasma.
But Koz didn't dodge at all. He was like a shark launching a surprise attack, rushing straight towards the open hatch from the deep space.
"I will not die here, my terminator will be a mortal assassin, sorry my nephews."
The speed of the Midnight Haunter was even faster than the reaction speed of the Astartes. His mercy and forgiveness swept across the throat of the leading Dark Angel, easily tearing apart the ceramic-steel hybrid armor and cutting off the protected throat along with the white trachea.
The brave and combative Hurricane Wing veteran did not survive a single round at the hands of Koz. His brain was not completely dead yet, but his head had lost the connection with his body, and the gushing blood turned into huge crystal blood beads in the low-gravity environment.
He did not dodge, but the bullets fired by the Dark Angels veteran seemed to have eyes and brushed past the edge. The Night Haunter always appeared in a safe position, and the next second mercifully pierced through the head of another Astartes, smashing the brain into pieces.
Conrad entered the gate. More than half of the Dark Angels had been killed or wounded in just a few seconds. He could hear the Dark Angels' curses and screams from the slight communication conversation, but it was meaningless.
Three seconds later, all the Dark Angels veterans were killed. Most of them died horribly, as the Night Haunter's sharp claws easily dismembered them, turning them into floating pieces of flesh and limbs.
