Chapter 264 Ending
Chapter 264 Ending
The US military has a particular fondness for things like time delays and timing devices. They suffered a lot of losses because of this during the Korean War, so we must be careful to guard against it!
As they were talking, the drone had already flown to the north of the outpost and was about to drop bombs on the rebels when several large military drones suddenly flew out from the side and crashed into it without hesitation.
The unexpected event happened quite suddenly. The drone belonging to the defending side immediately dropped bombs and then frantically tried to evade.
But two fists can't fight four hands, and even a tiger can't withstand a pack of wolves. After dodging two collisions, the drones from both sides collided in mid-air, and a brilliant burst of flames exploded under the dark sky.
The defending troops were dumbfounded, while the morale of the rebels soared.
But just seconds later, cluster bombs landed on the rebels' heads, instantly sending flames soaring into the sky and filling the air with smoke.
As if an invisible hand had pressed the pause button, the once intense gunfire suddenly became sparse.
The main force of the rebels suffered heavy casualties and their morale plummeted. Although there were quite a few remaining, they were mostly just bystanders. Even when things were going well, they would shirk their duties and take advantage of the chaos. Now that the defending army was turning the tide, these opportunists who had been hiding in the back were even less likely to participate in the attack.
Left with no other option, the rebels had to halt their offensive and regroup their remaining troops in preparation for another battle.
It was just that it was too dark to see exactly how many people had died; otherwise, this hastily assembled mob would have collapsed long ago due to the heavy casualties.
But it was so dark, and the rebels were so disorganized, that reorganizing them was an incredibly difficult task!
Many rebels, including Nelson, remained silent in the corner despite not being harmed at all.
Should they step forward voluntarily?
It's ridiculous! Other people's children can die all the time, but you only have one life!
The defending troops' position.
Mori wanted to take advantage of the rebels' rest to organize a counterattack, but the defenders had suffered heavy casualties and were unable to pursue them.
He was so angry that his prostate was almost blocked.
However, having lost a drone, the US military clearly didn't intend to give the rebels time to regroup. Soon after, more than a dozen drones arrived on the battlefield and launched an air strike against the rebels.
The rebels also launched a number of drones, more than the US military, but they were of different models and sizes, and their overall quality was far inferior.
These drones were all found by the rebels at a US military base in the epidemic area. In order to break the blockade, the rebels went all out and deployed all the drones they had to the battlefield at once.
Nearly forty medium and large-sized drones engaged in a fierce battle in the air.
However, just as the rebel aircraft arrived on the battlefield, US drones simultaneously launched more than forty missiles, sending dozens of trails of fire across the sky, blooming into dazzling fireworks against the night sky.
In just a few moments, the rebels lost all their drones!
In a military base in an epidemic area, the control room was silent, with all the screens displaying messages indicating that the drone had lost signal.
The rebels' drones all take off from this base, and the personnel controlling them were originally US troops stationed at this base. They only joined the rebels to escape the epidemic area.
A white man in his forties, suppressing his anger, growled, "What's going on? What's going on? Where's my plane? Where are my missiles? Why aren't they firing?"
His name was Rosen, one of the rebel leaders.
Although the types of these drones are complex and most of them cannot carry missiles, there are also a few integrated combat platforms that can launch missiles.
He watched the ground crew install the missiles onto the drone, but how come not a single one was launched?
A calm voice responded: "Because the US military has activated IFF (Identification Friend or Foe)."
Rosen immediately looked at the person who spoke: "Who are you?"
You can call me Simon.
What does "Identification Friend or Foe" mean?
Simon smirked, wanting to ask if the rebels were out of manpower, since they had sent such an idiot: "Identification Friend or Foe is a device that, once activated, can prevent friendly fire."
"You didn't activate it?" Rosen quickly grasped the key point. "Answer me!" Simon sighed. "Whether it was activated or not isn't the key. The important thing is that the other side activated IFF (Identification Friend or Foe). Our control system defaults to the other side as friendly forces and cannot launch missiles."
Rosen persisted, "How could they launch it?"
"Because the military used technical means to change the original two-way friend-or-foe identification to one-way identification," Simon tried his best to explain. "Our aircraft identified the other aircraft as friendly forces and could not launch missiles, while the other side did not have this restriction."
Rosen finally understood, and frowned as he asked, "You guys also work with drones, why don't you think of a solution?"
Simon couldn't hold back any longer: "Mr. Rosen, let's be realistic. This is just a military base. We only know how to use it, not how to manufacture drones, let alone modify their programs, understand?"
Rosen coldly stared at Simon's sudden outburst, then suddenly grinned, "So that's how it is, I understand."
“You’re no longer useful.” He turned and walked out, waving to the few rebels guarding the door. “Take care of them.”
The four gunmen nodded in agreement and immediately raised their rifles.
Simon was immediately taken aback and without hesitation leaped and fell behind the control panel. The others also stood up involuntarily, and many immediately reached for their guns, ready to fight back.
But just as they drew their guns, two grenades were thrown into the control room. A loud explosion and a blinding flash occurred simultaneously, blinding and deafening everyone.
The gunman immediately opened fire, bullets hitting the personnel in control, causing blood to spurt out.
Many people don't realize they've been shot until they feel excruciating pain.
But by then, it was too late.
Simon was no exception. He lay behind the control panel for a while before his vision returned. In his buzzing ears, he could vaguely hear the sound of gunfire.
He rolled over and stared blankly at a companion who had been shot multiple times, lying limply on the ground, his limbs twitching several times, his dead fish eyes staring straight at him.
Simon felt as if a string had snapped in his mind. He roared, drew his pistol, and suddenly stood up to return fire.
He only fired two shots before being surrounded by gunmen outside the door, and was hit by several bullets.
He stared down at the wound on his chest, as if he couldn't believe it was real, but the excruciating pain instantly swept through his body, making him unable to control himself.
Several more shots hit Simon, his expression froze, his gaze became unfocused, and he fell backward to the ground.
Outside the control room, Rosen took out a cigarette, lit it, took a deep drag, held his breath, let the smoke linger in his lungs for a moment, and then exhaled forcefully.
The gunfire gradually subsided, and one of the gunmen shouted, "Boss, it's all taken care of!"
Rosen took another drag, extinguished the cigarette, and carefully put away the remaining half-smoked cigarette: "Clean up the mess!"
After saying that, he put his hands in his pockets and left the control room.
Before they had gone far, a loud explosion came from behind, and the huge control room was razed to the ground. The gunman in charge of cleaning up quickly returned to Rosen's side.
"Let's go." Rosen looked up at the night sky, a sense of melancholy welling up inside him.
The group quickly left the base, but instead of heading south, they headed north into the heart of the epidemic area.
Just minutes later, several missiles from outside the affected area hit their targets accurately, completely destroying the entire airport.
