Traveling back thirty years to Conan, intercepting Princess Eri
Chapter 414 Divination of the Future
In the original timeline, even twenty years later, the Mori family's house would still stand tall.
The Shimadzu Group's acquisition plan will likely be shelved for some reason in the end.
The thought flashed through Lin Xiuyi's mind, and he calmly picked up his teacup and took a sip.
Kogoro Mouri sat back down with some skepticism, his gaze sweeping across the dining table before finally settling on Akane Koizumi, who was quietly eating.
"Koizumi-kun," Kogoro Mori said, clasping his hands together in a pleading gesture, "could you do a divination for me? Will our house be able to be saved?"
Akane Koizumi slowly swallowed her food, then opened her fair palm: "Sure, one fortune telling costs 100,000 yen."
"So expensive?"
Kogoro Mouri's eyes widened, and he subconsciously touched the empty wallet in his pocket, his face immediately contorting into a mournful expression.
"We're classmates."
“This is already a discounted price because of our friendship,” Akane Koizumi replied earnestly. “Recently, I’ve been charging 200,000 yen per reading for my clients.”
"Are there that many?" Kogoro Mouri asked, still somewhat skeptical.
“I can vouch for you, Koizumi-senpai was not lying,” Midori Orikasa put down her chopsticks. “She earned 600,000 yen just last night.”
"Isn't it right?"
Kogoro Mouri straightened up in surprise.
"Two hundred thousand yen per session, six hundred thousand yen per night, and you only do fortune telling for three people a day? But every night, there's a long queue in front of your fortune telling stall?"
“There are many types of fortune telling, and my fees vary depending on the accuracy,” Akane Koizumi explained. “I also offer inexpensive fortune telling, only 1,000 yen per session. Would you like to try it?”
"This will do!"
Kogoro Mori nodded hastily as if he had been granted a pardon, then frantically searched through all his pockets, finally managing to find two 500-yen coins in the lining of his wallet.
He handed it over with trembling hands: "This is my last bit of pocket money."
Akane Koizumi took the two coins, and everyone else stopped eating, wanting to see how she would tell fortunes.
Unexpectedly, the apprentice witch put one coin into her pocket and then tossed the remaining coin high into the air.
The coin traced a silver arc in the air.
A second later, it landed on the wooden tabletop, spun around, and came to a stop.
Akane Koizumi glanced down and saw that the side with the cherry blossom pattern was facing up.
"Well, your house should be able to be saved."
A moment of silence fell over the dining table, broken only by the ticking of the wall clock.
Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment. Yukiko's lips twitched slightly, Midori Orikasa blinked in confusion, and Reiko's face scrunched up in disbelief.
For a moment, no one knew what to say.
The atmosphere remained awkward for a moment, and then Akane Koizumi casually picked up another piece of fried chicken and ate it.
Reiko's face stiffened as she cautiously tugged at Kogoro Mouri's sleeve: "Kogoro-nii-san, it seems like she's playing a trick on you."
"Give me back my allowance!"
Kogoro Mouri suddenly realized what was happening and gritted his teeth as he reached out to take back his coin.
"This is the cost of your divination, and I've already given it to you. There's no reason for you to take it back."
Akane Koizumi rolled her eyes at him, then casually stuffed the coin into her breast pocket, patting it to make sure it was safe.
"The rules of the fortune-telling world can't be broken." "But...but..." Kogoro Mouri scratched his head, on the verge of tears, "Does flipping a coin count as fortune-telling?"
“This is the simplest way to do divination,” Akane Koizumi said matter-of-factly, stirring her miso soup with a spoon. “You nodded when I asked you if you wanted to try it.”
"If I had known it would turn out like this, I would have thrown it myself," Kogoro Mouri sighed dejectedly, slumping back in his chair like a deflated balloon.
"Alright, just give him a proper fortune telling," Lin Xiuyi put down his teacup. "Aren't you also going to set up a stall in front of the izakaya? Don't you want to know if the izakaya can be saved?"
"Well..." Akane Koizumi tilted her head, thought for a moment, then gently bit her lower lip. "I'll give it a try."
After saying that, she got up to get the crystal ball.
"Shuichi, you really have a way!" Kogoro Mouri looked at his good brother gratefully.
"Tsk tsk, one sentence is worth 200,000 yen," Yukiko glanced at Hayashi Shuichi, twirling a strand of chestnut hair with her fingers, her tone sour, "You really have a lot of influence with Koizumi Akane."
“What does this have to do with face?” Lin Xiuyi quickly waved his hand. “It’s clearly Kogoro who doesn’t know how to speak.”
“I think,” Kogoro Mouri scoffed, “even if I said what you said, she wouldn’t help me for free.”
"How can you be so ungrateful?" Lin Xiuyi glared at her friend, annoyed.
“Brother Kogoro,” Reiko shook her head like a little adult, “you really don’t know how to talk.”
While the group was chatting idly, Akane Koizumi returned carrying a crystal ball wrapped in purple velvet.
She sat back down, carefully placed the crystal ball in front of her, then hovered her hands around it, closed her eyes, and began to chant obscure and difficult-to-understand incantations in a low voice.
A moment later, a soft white light gradually emanated from inside the crystal ball.
Everyone held their breath, and even the usually calm Eri Kisaki involuntarily leaned forward.
Akane Koizumi slowly opened her eyes, the light of the crystal ball reflected in her crimson pupils.
She gazed at the crystal ball and murmured, "Twenty years from now, the house will still be there."
Upon hearing this, Kogoro Mouri breathed a sigh of relief, and his tense shoulders finally relaxed.
Akane Koizumi's voice became somewhat ethereal.
"However, the izakaya is gone, and the first floor has become..."
She frowned, as if trying to figure something out.
"Cafe?"
As she finished speaking, the crystal ball's light gradually dimmed, eventually returning to its transparent state.
Yukiko frowned: "Shuichi, are you planning to turn this into a coffee shop in the future?"
"Senior," Midori Orikasa exclaimed, her eyes widening in surprise, "Aren't you planning to keep this izakaya going forever?"
“Onii-chan,” Reiko had seemed indifferent to the izakaya before, but when she heard the news that the izakaya would disappear, a clear sense of disappointment appeared on her face.
Only Eri Kisaki didn't care about Akane Koizumi's prophecy; instead, she frowned and stared at the crystal ball that had returned to normal.
Although both Hayashi Hideichi and Orikasa Midori told her that Koizumi Akane's divination was very accurate.
But this science-loving girl still didn't believe it, because it was too contrary to common sense.
Even after witnessing the crystal ball glow, Eri Kisaki still thought that there must be a miniature light bulb and power source hidden inside the crystal ball.
If Akane Koizumi hadn't been watching so closely, she really would have smashed the crystal ball open to see what was inside. (End of Chapter)
