"Fine, then we'll tell you our reasons," the officer in charge said arrogantly, arms crossed. "Yesterday afternoon at seven o'clock, didn't you pass by the community park near the boxing gym?"
“Yes, I did pass by,” Matsuda Jotaro nodded. “That’s the route I take home from the boxing gym. Is there a problem with that?”
“This morning, we found a male corpse in the grass in the community park,” the officer in charge said expressionlessly. “After examination and verification, he was also a boxer named Yamato Takeda.”
“I don’t know him,” Matsuda Jotaro shook his head blankly.
"Don't you recognize him?" The officer in charge scoffed. "Then why do witnesses say they saw you near the park around the time of the victim's death?"
"I already said that park is on my way home!" Matsuda Jotaro's face flushed red, his hands clenched into fists. "You can't just assume I'm the murderer because of that! That's ridiculous!"
“As police officers, we naturally wouldn’t make such a judgment so easily,” the officer in charge sneered. “We examined the body; he died from a severe blow to the head, and it was a single, fatal blow.”
"Where would an ordinary person get such strength? Only a boxer like you could do that!"
"I..." Matsuda Jotaro was about to speak in his defense.
The officer in charge ignored him and continued, "You two are both boxers, so you must know each other. Yesterday afternoon, you got into an argument when you passed by there, and then in a moment of impulse, you punched him to death!"
"Afterwards, fearing being discovered, you dumped the body in the bushes of the park and then went home pretending you knew nothing about it!"
"You're talking nonsense!" Matsuda Jotaro exclaimed anxiously. "I didn't kill anyone... Oh, right!"
He suddenly remembered something and quickly recalled it.
“Yesterday evening, when I passed by that park, I saw two men arguing. I was worried that I would get involved and it would affect today’s final, so I ignored it.”
"If the deceased was one of them, the murderer must be the other!"
"Heh," the lead officer said with a forced smile, "Why didn't you say that earlier? Why did you only remember it after I explained the situation? Your explanation is obviously made up on the spot!"
"I didn't!" Matsuda Jotaro retorted loudly, his voice filled with anger and helplessness.
"My dad isn't the murderer, he wouldn't kill anyone!" Matsuda Jinpei, though frightened, bravely stood in front of his father.
The police here were too lazy to argue with them anymore.
After the officer in charge waved his hand, two officers immediately stepped forward, grabbed Matsuda Jotaro's arms, and were about to take him away.
"I didn't kill anyone! I still have to compete!" Matsuda Jotaro struggled, and in the process, he accidentally pushed a police officer to the ground.
"Matsuda Jotaro! How dare you assault a police officer!" The officer in charge of the team, his face dark, drew his pistol.
"I really didn't kill anyone!"
Matsuda Jotaro quickly pulled his son behind him, then raised his hands, pleading with sincerity.
"Officer, even if you need to investigate, please wait until I finish the final match! The final match will start in about half an hour."
"This is my dream, and I absolutely cannot miss it!"
"Hmph, your guarantee?" the officer in charge said sarcastically. "Why should we believe a murderer's guarantee! Come with us obediently, or don't blame us for being impolite!"
The officer who had just been pushed down angrily pulled out handcuffs.
Matsuda Jinpei clung tightly to his father's leg, refusing to let the police take him away. One of the officers quickly grew impatient, grabbed Matsuda Jinpei by the collar, and, ignoring his struggles, tried to forcibly drag him away.
"You've gone too far! Jinpei is just a child!" Hagiwara Chisato could no longer hold back and stepped forward to stop them.
Unexpectedly, the tall police officer suddenly swung his hand, causing her to lose her balance and fall towards the wall next to her.
"One-san!" Kenji Hagiwara cried out in surprise.
Just as the girl was about to crash into the wall, a long, strong hand firmly pulled her back.
"Shuichi-nii-san?" Hagiwara Chisato, still shaken, looked at the boy in front of her in surprise.
"Are you alright?" Lin Xiuyi helped the girl stand up.
"Why are there so many kids backstage at the boxing match!" The police officer in charge frowned, glanced at Lin Xiuyi, and then sternly reprimanded his subordinates, "Have you all eaten? You can't even separate a child!"
Hearing their superiors urging them on, the officers no longer held back. Their rough actions immediately caused Matsuda Jinpei to cry out in pain.
"Wait a minute," Lin Xiuyi stepped in front of Matsuda Jinpei.
"Go away!"
A police officer shouted angrily and reached out to push Lin Xiuyi away, but Lin Xiuyi was pushed aside instead.
"Kid, judging by your appearance, you should be over sixteen," the officer in charge said, his eyes filled with threat. "If you dare to obstruct us again, don't blame us for taking you away as an accomplice of the criminal! You'd better think carefully."
"Are you sure you want to take me away?" Lin Xiuyi smiled strangely, then took out the First Investigation Division's identification from his pocket and handed it to the other party.
The officer in charge took the badge with suspicion: "First Investigation Division, Investigation Consultant, Lin Xiuyi... Where would the Metropolitan Police Department get such a young member? Is your badge fake?"
"Whether it's fake or not, you can just call and confirm," Lin Xiu replied expressionlessly.
“Inspector, he seems to really be from the Metropolitan Police Department,” an officer whispered to the officer in charge. “I’ve seen him on TV before.”
“I’ve seen him before,” another officer recognized Lin Xiuyi as well. “He’s that high school detective who’s recently become quite famous in Beika.”
"Are you really from the First Investigation Division?" The officer in charge frowned.
“I just said, if you don’t believe me, you can call and ask,” Lin Xiuyi said with a smile. “Supervisor Odagiri of the First Investigation Division, Inspector Samezaki, and other officers can all vouch for me.”
“Even if you are a member of the First Investigation Division,” the officer in charge said, his face darkening, “this case is under the jurisdiction of the Bunkyo Police Station. What right do you have to obstruct us!”
“I didn’t stop you, I just wanted to remind you,” Lin Xiuyi took his ID from the other person and put it back in his pocket, “Your current actions do not follow arrest procedures.”
"Since you say that this Mr. Matsuda is a murder suspect and that you want to arrest him with handcuffs, then please produce the arrest warrant!"
"Otherwise, you would be the one breaking the law here now, Inspector."
