Chapter 170 Massacre of the City
The water gurgles and the sun sets, there are no chickens or dogs, only crows crowing.

Thousands of villages are deserted like the Cold Food Festival, with no people and only flowers.

The four of them returned south, passing through the two roads east of the river. They saw dilapidated houses everywhere, broken beams and pillars, deserted fields, and nine out of ten houses were empty.

As the weather gradually warmed up, the remaining snow began to melt, gradually revealing the corpses piled on both sides of the road. Everywhere I went, it was shocking.

For several days, Guo Jing lost his appetite and became even more depressed than when he left.

When we arrived in Jizhou that day, we saw thick smoke and flames in the city from afar. Even though we were still several miles away, we could still hear wailing and crying from afar.

Although Temujin had issued the military order, the withdrawal would not be completed in a day or two.

Jizhou could not hold out for a few more days. The attacking general, Kublai Lai, was dissatisfied with the order to retreat. Seeing that there was not much food left, he simply attacked the city in one go, looted it, and then ordered a massacre in the city to vent his anger.

Kublai Lai was no unknown person either. He was one of the founding heroes of Mongolia. Together with Jebe and Subutai, he was one of the "Four Mastiffs of Mongolia".

There were tens of thousands of surrendered soldiers and civilians. Except for the craftsmen and young and beautiful women in the city, all of them were driven out of the city.

The crowd was unarmed, wailing and howling, and fleeing in panic. The Mongolian soldiers rode back and forth on horseback, waving long swords and killing at will.

From the white-haired old man to the young child, even the baby in swaddling clothes is not spared.

In front of the city gate, a man dressed as a general was chatting casually with his personal soldiers, pointing and laughing wildly with a long whip in his hand.

Guo Jing witnessed this hell on earth with his own eyes. His eyes were bloodshot, his internal organs were burning, and his blood was surging all over his body.

"Capture the commander first!"

Gu Ping'an was faster than him. He whipped his horse hard and rushed towards the city like an arrow.

The 10,000-strong army was busy slaughtering for fun, and Kublai had only a hundred or so personal soldiers with him. By the time they noticed, the four men had already bypassed the crowd and rushed to their front.

"who?"

The army was now entangled with the people and it was difficult to get away. Kublai was startled at first, but when he saw that there were only four of them, he immediately felt relieved.

"A mere four of you dare to seek death! Go! Kill the men and spare the women!"

The personal guards received the order and attacked with swords raised.

Although Gu Ping'an did not appear to be as furious as Guo Jing, he was already filled with murderous intent in his heart. His Ziwei soft sword flashed and turned into a purple light, and in the blink of an eye, he beheaded the three men.

Mu Nianci grabbed a spear, and the blood-red spear head flew up and down. She attacked fiercely and showed no mercy.

There were only a hundred or so riders, and they were killed by the four men in just a few moments.

The remaining soldiers finally realized something was wrong, but it was not easy for them to break out of the crowd and rescue Hubi Lai.

Seeing that the commander turned his horse around and tried to escape, Gu Ping'an pushed his horse's saddle with one hand, used the force to leap into the air, and flew towards him like an eagle.

Tai Chi swordsmanship has always been known for its lightness, exquisiteness, and combination of hardness and softness, but this time Gu Ping'an attacked in anger, using his sword as a knife, slashing straight down.

The move of "Splitting Mount Hua with Force" may seem crude and unremarkable, but it has infused all his internal strength into it.

When Hubilai heard the whistling sound of wind behind him, he was terrified and turned around hastily, holding his spear horizontally to block.

There was no doubt that with a "crack" sound, the spear was instantly broken into two like a dead branch.

The Ziwei soft sword fell without any hindrance, and split him in half.

Blood spurted out like a fountain, splashing all over the sky. The two halves of the body fell heavily to the ground, and the flesh and internal organs were mixed with white bones. The scene was extremely bloody and terrifying.

The deputy general finally managed to break out of the crowd, but when he saw this scene, he was immediately scared out of his wits.

Guo Jing rode forward, his spear darting out like a dragon, piercing his shoulder and knocking him off his horse.

“Don’t stop yet!”

Gu Ping'an's voice was like a bell, its waves radiating outward, making everyone's ears buzz and their blood surge. Tens of thousands of people looked over and saw him covered in blood, like a killer god. Blood slowly dripped from his sword, gathering on the ground in a pool of crimson.

The deputy general rolled around on the ground in a panic, raised his head, and met Guo Jing's eyes that were about to spit fire.

"The Golden Sword Prince Consort?"

"The Khan has already ordered the troops to retreat. How dare you disobey orders and massacre civilians? Today is the day you die!"

After saying that, he shook the spear in his hand and was about to stab him in the heart.

The deputy general was so frightened that his face turned pale. He hurriedly crawled backwards, begging for mercy.

"Please spare my life, my dear Prince Consort! These are all orders from General Kublai Lai, and have nothing to do with me!"

"You did something so unscrupulous, and you still want to shirk responsibility?"

Guo Jing heard only fear in his words, but no shame at all, and his anger grew even stronger.

"If I don't kill you today, how can I be worthy of those innocent people who died?"

"Why waste your words on him?"

Gu Ping'an came to Guo Jing's side at some point and swung the Ziwei soft sword in his hand.

A purple light flashed, and a blood mark suddenly appeared on the deputy general's neck. A trace of disbelief flashed in his eyes. He hurriedly raised his hand to cover the wound, but the blood kept gushing out.

Although the two generals were dead, the four of them alone were unable to do anything to the tens of thousands of cavalrymen.

Although they were temporarily subdued by the thundering means, it would not take long for them to react, and the tragedy of a river of blood was still inevitable.

Gu Ping'an's mind moved, and he immediately mobilized his internal energy and shouted loudly.

"Go back and tell Mu Huali to discipline his men. If anyone disobeys orders and retreats again, I, Gu Ping'an, will personally take his head!"

"Gu Ping'an is the hero Ping'an!"

Suddenly, someone among the people shouted loudly, and then it spread like wildfire, and tens of thousands of people were excited.

"Hero Ping An is here to save us!"

"We can't let these beasts get away! Kill them all!"

"Kill! Avenge our fellow villagers!"

For a moment, shouts came one after another, and the sound waves rolled in like a surging tide.

Perhaps inspired by the courage of "Hero Ping'an", a boy of eighteen or nineteen years old slammed hard into the warhorse of the cavalryman next to him.

The warhorse was frightened and was surrounded by a group of people. After a struggle, they actually pulled the soldier off the horse.

The civilians, who were originally unarmed and could only scream in panic and flee in despair, seemed to suddenly find courage.

The flock of sheep that were left to be slaughtered instantly turned into man-eating wolves, and hatred and anger burst out like a volcanic eruption.

The common people knew nothing about military tactics or battle formations. They just relied on their courage and rushed towards the Mongolian soldiers in front of them like crazy, fearlessly and without hesitation.

Those who snatched weapons used weapons, those who picked up stones used stones, and even tore them apart with their bare hands and bit them with their teeth. As long as they could hurt these beasts, everything could be a weapon.

The cavalry formation had already been scattered due to the previous massacre, and the horses were pulled by the reins by the people. In a blink of an eye, a group of people swarmed up, dragged the soldiers off their horses, and beat them to death with punches.

The Mongolian soldiers were caught off guard by this sudden and crazy counterattack, and were frightened by this group of "lambs to be slaughtered" who were red-eyed with killing intent.

Note: Kublai died in 1211 in the official history. The parallel universe of martial arts is purely borrowed.
