Chapter 35 The Interrogation of the Cat and Mouse Game
Chapter 35 Interrogation - A Cat and Mouse Game
Janus District Police Department
In the interrogation room, three people, one man and two women, were sitting opposite each other. Zhu Yuan turned on the desk lamp and shone it on the uniformed woman not far away. Next to her sat a young male sheriff holding a notebook and pen, preparing to record the following content.
The woman in uniform instinctively closed her eyes, blinded by the bright light. Zhu Yuan, with a serious expression, stared intently at the woman, not missing a single clue. Once the woman's eyes adjusted to the light, she slowly opened them.
Behind the uniformed woman, on the wall, was a huge red banner that read, “Confess and you will be treated leniently; resist and you will be punished severely.” It was as if an invisible hand was firmly gripping the hearts of those with ulterior motives.
At this moment, the young male sheriff beside her stood up and turned on the video camera set up next to him. As the red dot above the video camera lit up, the young male sheriff sat back down on the stool, and after exchanging a glance with Zhu Yuan beside him.
The male sheriff nodded to Zhu Yuan, indicating that they could begin. Seeing this, Zhu Yuan, as usual, asked her first question: "Name?" However, she received no response for a long time, so Zhu Yuan raised her voice slightly.
"I asked you your name! Answer truthfully." The woman in uniform lowered her head, her long black hair obscuring her face, revealing only a pair of bloodshot, gloomy eyes. Then, she spoke sarcastically, "Haven't you already investigated? Why waste time asking me?"
"Bang!" Zhu Yuan stood up abruptly, slamming her fist on the table in front of her. "Mo Li! Watch your words. If you tell us everything you know, we can try to get you a lighter sentence."
As soon as she finished speaking, Mo Li, who was sitting in the interrogation chair, let out a maniacal laugh, "Hahahaha! You? You're not qualified, hahahaha!" Zhu Yuan was not angered by Mo Li's sarcasm. Instead, she calmly walked to the door.
She opened the door, took the file handed to her, then turned to Mo Li and slammed the file onto the iron table. After doing this, Zhu Yuan returned to her seat, picked up the water glass on the table, and took a sip.
"Glug glug!" After putting the lid back on the water glass, Zhu Yuan spoke again, "Take a look for yourself. This is the list of people described by the survivors of the Dead End Hollow." After speaking, Zhu Yuan looked at the one-way glass next to her.
Behind the glass stood several men in military uniforms, their eyes fixed solemnly on the three people inside. One of them, an elderly man with gray hair and a kind face, nodded approvingly and said:
"Hmm~ Not bad, this little girl Zhu Yuan is becoming more and more like that person from back then." The middle-aged man next to the old man couldn't help but chime in, "Yes! If it weren't for that person's intervention back then, we might not even be alive now."
"Alas, it's a pity that he disappeared without a trace after that battle." The white-haired old man seemed to have thought of something and asked the middle-aged man beside him, "By the way, how's the investigation into that fireball from a while ago going?"
The middle-aged man pondered for a moment and shook his head: "Our people only found out that the fireball was last seen on Sixth Street, but when our people arrived at Sixth Street, they didn't find anything unusual."
Seeing that the old man did not respond, the middle-aged man spoke again: "Oh, by the way, you might be interested in this." He then took out a small evidence bag from his pocket and handed it to the white-haired old man.
"Hmm? What's this?" The white-haired old man took the bag and held it in front of him. A jet-black scale lay quietly inside. The middle-aged man explained, "This scale was obtained from the Dragon Emperor by my subordinate, Miss Jian. According to Jian's description, this scale seems to be able to resist the erosion of ether."
"Hmm... Can it resist etheric erosion?" The white-haired old man pondered the irregular patterns on the scales for a long time before finally speaking, "Send it to the forensic department and let them analyze it." With that, he handed the evidence bag back to the middle-aged man.
"Yes!" the middle-aged man replied, taking the evidence bag and turning to leave the small room. Shortly after he left, the interrogation of Mo Li was nearing its end; throughout the entire process, Mo Li had been spouting useless nonsense.
Left with no other option, Zhu Yuan had to have her taken to a cell and locked up. The white-haired old man, who had witnessed the entire ordeal, closed his eyes and shook his head in disappointment; clearly, the interrogation hadn't yielded the information he wanted to know.
Meanwhile, in front of the dead-end tunnel train.
Mingche and Xiaobai stood on the tracks, their eyes fixed on the approaching train. "Go! Stop it." Mingche raised his hand and waved it lightly. "Roar! Sizzle!" Xiaobai, receiving the command, roared and lunged forward, its limbs pressing down, dangerous silver arcs of electricity crackling around it.
As the electric arc reached its peak, a flash of red light appeared in Xiaobai's eyes. "Zzzzz? Bang!" His figure transformed into a bolt of lightning, colliding head-on with the oncoming train in the blink of an eye. "Zzzzz! Buzz!"
...inside the train
"Whoa! We're going to crash!" "Ugh! Ah!" The sudden stop caused everyone on the train, except for the three people stuck in the doorway, to lose their balance and fall to the ground unconscious. "Ugh... why are there so many mackerel circling in the sky? Meow."
The cat swayed as it stood up, the fake sheriff appearing as multiple blurry images before its eyes. "What, so many more people? Meow?" The cat drew its dagger and staggered toward the fake sheriff who had fallen to the ground.
"Take this! Meow." The cat raised its short knife high and thrust it forcefully at the figure on the far left. "Clang!" The short knife pierced the carpet and embedded itself in the metal floor. "Meow! Ouch." The huge recoil almost made the cat drop the short knife.
"Ouch~ What happened? That hurts." At this moment, the fake sheriff lying on the ground slowly opened his eyes, and what came into view was a short knife with a cold glint in his eyes stuck in front of him. Looking at his reflection in the blade, the fake sheriff's eyes widened and he instantly got up.
"Huff... huff!" The fake sheriff gasped for breath, his chest heaving violently, his heart pounding as if it would burst out of his chest. Seeing this, the cat drew his dagger again. The pain brought him back to his senses. He closed his eyes, shook his head, and waited for the dizziness to subside. When he opened his eyes again, the double vision became clear.
"Gotcha, meow!" The cat charged at the fake sheriff again, its short knife flashing through the air. "Hey! Wait! Wait!" the fake sheriff cried, fumbling for a weapon.
Just then, "zzzz, click!" the lights in the train suddenly dimmed. Then, "bang!" all the light bulbs above the train shattered, and countless shards of glass fell from above, crunching underfoot.
The cat stopped attacking, its two gleaming golden pupils scanning its surroundings. Just then, a faint reflection in the distance caught the fake sheriff's attention. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was the pistol that had fallen to the ground earlier.
Unfortunately, he appeared behind the cat demon. Seeing this, the fake sheriff slowly crouched down and crawled forward. While the cat demon was still warily guarding his surroundings, the fake sheriff, enduring the sting of the glass, slowly moved to the vicinity of the pistol.
"Just a tiny bit more, just a tiny bit more, and I'd have gotten it!" The fake sheriff's trembling hand was about to reach for the pistol when, at that critical moment, a sharp dagger flashed like lightning in front of him.
Terrified, his outstretched hand froze, as if under a spell. "Found you, meow~" The cat's voice came from above, like a death knell from the underworld.
The fake sheriff swallowed hard, a bead of cold sweat sliding down his cheek and dripping onto the carpet. He slowly raised his head and saw the cat tilting its head with a playful expression, its two bright pupils filled with the desire to catch its prey.
