Chapter 767 The first contact
Chapter 767 First Contact
The three female demons immediately fell silent.
Since they were on land and the banshees were not good at stealth, the three of them immediately prepared for battle.
Logically speaking, this should be the Rhine underground, and what we see here should be an untouchable, but it's still best to be cautious.
The banshees tried to stay hidden in the shadows, but the huge mechanical arm, after retracting, reached out again.
Following behind it was a rather large machine.
“This thing looks like an excavator,” Monica whispered.
The excavator was something Hughes had drawn up in blueprints, but it only existed on paper. At present, the only power available in this world was steam power. Electric control systems were still in the laboratory, and internal combustion engines were somewhat unstable.
But the three of them actually saw the excavator that Hughes had only existed on paper in real life.
"It really does look like one, isn't that a hydraulic rod?"
Once the superfluous decorations and messy, redundant parts of the machine in front of us were removed, it actually coincided with Hughes's design.
The three exchanged a glance, their expressions gradually becoming serious.
What Castells couldn't solve, they accomplished here?!
Considering Xiao Bu's terrifying learning ability
"Do you think they might be the biggest enemy, even more terrifying than the Candlelight Society?" Una asked in a low voice.
“Whether they are enemies or not, we should make contact.” Nini shook her head.
As the excavator appeared before them, the person in the cab was also exposed.
The man had large eyes, pale skin, and pointed ears; he was clearly a member of Little Bu's clan.
Upon hearing this, Monica tried to step forward, but was stopped by Nini's three outstretched hands.
“I’ll go negotiate. Una, you stay back and prepare to provide support as needed. And you, Monica,” Nini looked down at Monica, “you go back now and send the intelligence back to Castel.”
Monica was taken aback by his words, and then anxiously prepared to speak.
Connie raised her hand to stop her: "This is an order, Monica. This should be your first time on the battlefield. Please obey orders immediately and don't let me down."
The banshees are here on a mission; this is a legitimate war effort.
Monica's eyes widened, a mixture of shock, anger, and anxiety flashing across her face.
Finally, she bit her lip, turned around unwillingly, and walked quickly towards the dark river.
Nini watched Monica's figure disappear into the distance until she heard a soft splash. Only then did she regain her composure and step out of the shadows where she had been hiding.
In the excavator next to him, the untouchable was humming a song and swinging the mechanical arm to search through the garbage heap when he suddenly saw Nini's tall figure. He was so startled that he almost fell out of the cab.
"Hello, I'm Nini, I came from Castel. Little Bu delivered the letter to us, and I have a reply. Could you take me to Frey?"
Nini tried to keep her tone friendly, standing still and looking nervously at the untouchable in the distance.
Although the Untouchable was short, Nini might not be able to beat him in a fight with that massive excavator.
Therefore, she immediately and briefly explained the situation to avoid any misunderstanding.
The short man opposite him stared blankly for a moment, then jumped up from his seat: "You...you're from Castel?! Little B's letter has been delivered? You even know Lord Frey!"
He was clearly excited, and his words were somewhat incoherent, but Nini simply smiled and nodded. "My name is Gelagra! It's nice to meet you!"
The untouchable jumped off the excavator and walked quickly over, but as he approached, he seemed to remember something and stopped hesitantly.
"Please, please don't get too close to me, touching us will bring misfortune."
His voice lowered.
Nini narrowed her eyes slightly and actually kept a certain distance from him.
"Are you from Castel? You have a lot of hands."
“Not everyone has so many hands,” Nini replied casually.
She kept observing Gragra in front of her. The little man's expression seemed genuine; whether he was happy or sad, it was almost written directly on his face.
Moreover, he had no doubts or wariness whatsoever and simply believed Nini's words.
What surprised Nini the most was that he didn't seem to have much resistance or fear towards her.
Nini looked down at herself; she was a harbinger of death over four meters tall, almost two stories high when standing upright.
Standing in front of her, the pressure you feel is like an ordinary person standing next to an elephant; your body constantly reminds you—this is a creature that can easily crush you at will.
Gragra is even shorter than the average person, standing less than 1.4 meters tall.
He looked up at the enormous Nini in front of him and exclaimed in surprise, "You're really tall."
After saying that, he turned around and said to himself, "I'll take you to see Lord Frey!"
Nini glanced back at Una and then followed her.
Nini followed him, passing through patches of garbage dumps, until they reached a building—or rather, an even larger garbage dump.
Besides the garbage everywhere, there are also many large machines here.
Nini could only recognize that it was mechanical; she couldn't identify any of its other functions.
There was no way around it; these things looked far too cluttered. Nini then realized that Gragla's excavator was actually the simplest one, at least its purpose was clear.
For example, the one on the left has two long legs for walking, but instead of mechanical arms, it's a huge furnace.
A walking furnace? What good could it be?
It also looks like that huge frame-shaped machine in front of us. It looks like a steam gantry crane used in ports, but it has eight mechanical arms attached to it. I don't know what they are for.
Nini had only seen this design concept at Tata's, on that aircraft carrier equipped with rams, catapults, and Gatling guns.
To be honest, Nini is quite impressed; at least these random things can actually move, even if the way they move is quite amazing.
For example, a mechanical gear was installed. Nini originally thought it could rotate, but it turned out to be a support structure. The teeth on the gear were for contacting the ground to prevent slipping.
All these designs highlight a bizarre aspect, the kind that normal people would never even imagine.
Besides these machines, Nini also met many of Little Bu's people.
These untouchables all look very similar, with large eyes and slender figures, giving them a somewhat alien feel.
What's even stranger is their personality. These untouchables surrounded Nini, their eyes full of curiosity, without a trace of fear.
