Chapter 175 Those who plant trees will enjoy the shade [5K]
"Brother, why don't you go to Qingzhou?"
That day, on the official road outside Luoyang City.
Taishi Ci asked with a puzzled look on his face, "Is it because of the Yellow Turban Rebellion in Qingzhou?"
But before Wei Zhe could answer, Taishi Ci shook his head.
You have to know that he and Wei Zhe started their careers by fighting the Yellow Turbans. There is no reason for them to be frightened by the Yellow Turbans in Qingzhou.
Besides, they have even driven away Dong Zhuo who was in power in Luoyang, so what can the Yellow Turbans in Qingzhou do?
In response to Taishi Ci's doubts, Wei Zhe said, "The time is not right yet."
It’s not that Wei Zhe doesn’t want to return to Qingzhou, but now is not the time to return to Qingzhou.
To put it bluntly, what he needs right now is a chaotic Qingzhou.
Although this is a bit cruel and hurtful, it is the truth.
After all, only when they could no longer survive in Qingzhou would the four million people of Qingzhou leave their homes and migrate on their own initiative.
In this way, there will be immigrants from Liaodong, and the Sinicization project of Dongming County that had been interrupted can continue.
In fact, this is true. Since the resurgence of the Yellow Turbans in Qingzhou, the number of Han people in Dongming County has increased day by day.
The land of the Three Han, once filled with Dongyi people, has now gradually become the home of the Han people.
It doesn't need too many. Just move the Han people to a few counties in Qingzhou, and the Three Han will have no chance of turning things around.
You must know that there are more than one million people in Qingzhou Pingyuan State, and even the Donglai County with the smallest population has 480,000 people.
It would be a shame not to immigrate to such a densely populated area right at my doorstep.
However, Taishi Ci did not think of this. Seeing that Wei Zhe had no intention of changing his mind, he could only give up.
Compared to the somewhat disappointed Taishi Ci, Zhao Yun was much happier.
It would be a good idea to go to Jizhou, so that he can return home in glory.
Although he is now just a military marquis in the personal guard camp, it depends on who he is under.
Whenever he thought of this, Zhao Yun couldn't help but smile.
The young Zhao Yun has not yet matured as he will in the future, and at this moment he looks like a sunny and cheerful big boy.
At the same time, Wei Zhe was persuading Cai Yong to go to Liaodong to avoid the chaos.
There is no way, because the old man plans to return to his hometown, Yu County, Chenliu.
……
"Lord Cai, please forgive my bluntness. Although Chenliu is a good place, it is not a place to live for a long time."
On the official road, Wei Zhe bluntly stated, "The Guandong counties are already in chaos. First, Liu Yanzhou killed Qiao Mao, the governor of Dongjun, and then Cao Mengde killed Wang Kuang, the governor of Henei. As for Sun Wentai, the Marquis of Wucheng, there's even more to say. Now, they've even killed the governor of Jingzhou and the governor of Nanyang. How can this be considered a sign of peace?"
"If Yanzhou is in chaos, can Chenliu still be peaceful?"
As Wei Zhe said this, Cai Yong, who had not thought much about it, could not help but look hesitant.
He originally thought that after Dong Zhuo was driven to Chang'an, the Guandong area should be peaceful. However, after listening to Wei Zhe's analysis, Cai Yong suddenly realized that he seemed to have thought things a little too simply.
Seeing this, Yuan Jun, who was standing by, took the opportunity to persuade them: "Although Liaodong is far away from the mountains and seas, every disadvantage has its advantages. Isn't such a unique geographical location a perfect place to stay in troubled times?"
"Furthermore, your Excellency has already pacified the Huibei, defeated the Three Han, and pacified Goguryeo. Liaodong is now free from external threats. Even if the Central Plains were to fall into chaos again, Liaodong would be able to remain unscathed. Isn't this the right time, right place, and right people?"
"A wise man prevents disaster before it occurs, and a prudent man plans for future troubles. I hope Mr. Cai will think twice!"
Without waiting for Cai Yong to hesitate, Wei Zhe immediately used a decisive move: "I heard that Lord Cai wants to compile history?"
"...Yes, I do have this thought." Upon hearing this, Cai Yong nodded in agreement without hesitation.
Since the Qin Dynasty perished in the second generation, the Han Dynasty was more like the first great unified dynasty.
Many of the rules of later dynasties are actually not so important today.
For example, when later dynasties compiled history, most of the time, later generations wrote history for the previous dynasties.
However, there is no such habit nowadays.
During the reign of Emperor Ming of Han, Emperor Liu Zhuang admired Ban Gu's talent after reading his private work "Book of Han". He removed Ban Gu from the position of Lanting Historian and ordered Ban Gu, Jia Kui and others to jointly compile the history of the dynasty.
By the end of Emperor Ming's reign, Ban Gu and others had completed the "Records of Emperor Shizu" and 28 biographies and records of meritorious officials, which was the opening work of the "Dongguan Hanji".
Although Emperor Ming died later and the earliest group of civil officials and scholars who compiled history also passed away, the compilation of "Dongguan Hanji" did not stop. After Emperor An ascended the throne, he ordered Liu Zhen, Li You, Liu Xu and others to continue compiling records, tables, biographies of famous officials, loyal men, scholars, and relatives of the emperor.
The book was originally named "Han Ji", but because the compilation location was moved to Dongguan, it was also named "Dongguan Han Ji".
Afterwards, Fu Wuji, Huang Jing and others were ordered to compile tables of kings, princes, meritorious officials, and marquises of grace, as well as biographies of the Southern Chanyu and the Western Qiang, as well as geographical records.
During the reign of Emperor Huan, he ordered Bian Shao, Cui Shi, Zhu Mu, and Cao Shou to compile biographies of Emperors Xiaomu and Xiaochong, as well as a biography of Empress Shunlie. He also added Empress Ansi and other empresses to the biography of the imperial relatives, and Cui Zhuan and others to the biography of the Confucian scholars. Cui Shi also worked with Yan Du to compile a table of officials and biographies of Sun Cheng, Guo Zhen, Zheng Zhong, and Cai Lun, all meritorious officials during the reign of Emperor Shun.
At this point, "Dongguan Hanji" had a total of 114 volumes, and it began to take shape.
During the reign of Emperor Si, he ordered Ma Ritian, Cai Yong, Yang Biao, Lu Zhi, Han Shuo and others to write dozens of records, chronicles and biographies, extending the lower limit to the Zhongping period.
Starting from Ban Gu and ending with Cai Yong, after more than a hundred years, "Dongguan Hanji" is still not completed.
It can be said that almost all the civil officials and scholars in this dynasty have had the experience of compiling history in the Eastern Palace.
For Cai Yong, continuing to compile "Han Ji" became his obsession.
However, in the original history, due to Dong Zhuo's burning of Luoyang and the subsequent wars, many manuscripts of the Dongguan Hanji were lost. Even when Yang Biao, a contemporary of the Hanji, continued to work on it in Xudu, the original manuscripts of Cai Yong and others were no longer complete.
If not for this, I'm afraid this book would be the best historical book of all time.
Even so, Dongguan Hanji is still highly regarded by the world and is known as one of the "Three Histories" along with Shiji and Hanshu. For example, the later Shu of the Later Han and Xu Hanshu both drew materials from Dongguan, and there is even a saying that "the chronicles of the Later Han originated from Dongguan."
Among all the historical works compiled by later dynasties, the only one that took as much time as the Dongguan Hanji was the History of Ming Dynasty.
After all, it took the Qing Dynasty nearly a hundred years to compile the "History of Ming Dynasty", and later historians gave it high praise.
But "History of Ming Dynasty" has a big problem, that is "authenticity".
You should know that every dynasty that compiled history would preserve the original historical materials for future generations to study.
But after the Qing Dynasty completed the "History of Ming Dynasty", it did something extremely bad.
That is, Qianlong burned more than 30 million official Ming Dynasty archives, leaving only more than 3,000 copies.
In other words, "History of Ming Dynasty" has "destroyed all traces", and people in later generations can only believe "History of Ming Dynasty"!
Therefore, the "History of Ming Dynasty" without the verification of original historical materials lacks the most basic credibility of a historical book!
And the most interesting thing is that there are four versions of "History of Ming Dynasty":
Wan's Draft History of Ming Dynasty in 313 volumes;
Wan's Draft History of Ming Dynasty in 416 volumes;
Wang's Draft History of Ming Dynasty in 310 volumes;
The 336-volume Wuyingdian Draft History of Ming Dynasty;
Not only are the time periods of so many versions very different, but the emperors of the Ming Dynasty also became increasingly incompetent.
The reasons behind this are truly thought-provoking.
In comparison, the "History of Yuan Dynasty" compiled at the request of Zhu Yuanzhang took only 331 days and was criticized by later literati for its sloppy and rough work. However, due to its overly sloppy compilation, many original materials from the previous dynasty were preserved instead of being deleted or burned.
As a historical book, "History of Yuan Dynasty" may be of the worst quality, but as historical material for studying the history of Yuan Dynasty, "History of Yuan Dynasty" has higher historical value than some other official histories.
It was precisely because the original data of "History of Ming Dynasty" was destroyed and the historical materials were tampered with that later generations such as Zhang Taiyan lamented that "it is impossible to revise the History of Ming Dynasty"!
Even though the Ming Dynasty is closer than the Yuan Dynasty, the "History of Ming Dynasty" compiled by the Qing Dynasty makes it even more difficult to understand the Ming Dynasty.
China's fine tradition of historical writing was almost completely destroyed during the Qing Dynasty.
But then again, this situation is not surprising.
No matter how much the Tungus wild boar evolves, it is still a savage after all, and cannot understand the persistence of people like Cai Yong.
When Wei Zhe suggested that Cai Yong could go to Liaodong to be a "keeper of the library", sorting out the many books in Luoyang and compiling history, Cai Yong immediately agreed with his eyes lighting up.
I have to say, Wang Yun is really a sinner.
This is just a simple-minded old man. Why do you want to kill him?
……
Let’s not talk about how Cai Yong was fooled by Wei Zhe.
As the army marched north, they soon arrived outside Yecheng again and met with heroes from Hebei again.
Jizhou Mu Han Fu also warmly hosted a banquet to entertain Wei Zhe and his party.
When Han Fu heard that Wei Zhe was short on grain and was planning to purchase some in Jizhou, he generously gifted him 100,000 hu without blinking an eye, leaving Wei Zhe envious. Tsk tsk! Jizhou Mu, this guy really had a high starting point!
However, there was a reason why Han Fu was so polite to Wei Zhe.
As the alliance against Dong fell apart, Han Fu gradually understood the real reason why Yuan Shao stayed in Hanoi.
This guy was not thinking about seeking revenge on Dong Zhuo at all, but was thinking about the position under him.
As a result, Han Fu, a local hero with a great reputation like Wei Zhe, naturally wanted to establish a good relationship with him.
At least, Wei Zhe cannot be allowed to stand on Yuan Shao's side, otherwise Han Fu will be really troubled.
However, when the banquet ended and the group left Yecheng, Xi Zhicai frowned and said worriedly, "Han Jizhou is too upright. I'm afraid he's no match for Yuan Benchu!"
Upon hearing this, Wei Zhe only sighed: "Predecessors plant trees for future generations to enjoy the shade, what can we do?"
There is no way. The accumulation of four generations of the Runan Yuan family over several decades cannot be completely without any effect.
If Yuan Shao had not been concerned about both face and substance, and did not want to compromise the greater good, Han Fu would have been finished long ago.
After all, it was only after Dong Zhuo entered Luoyang that he appointed Han Fu as the governor of Jizhou on the advice of Shangshu Zhou Bi, City Gate Captain Wu Qiong and others, which means that he served as the governor of Jizhou for less than a year.
With neither gratitude nor prestige, Han Fu's position as the Governor of Jizhou was actually not very stable.
However, Jizhou is not in Wei Zhe's plan for the time being, so there is no need to worry about it now.
So after leaving Yecheng, Wei Zhe, who was eager to return home, returned to Liaodong in only half the time it took to get there.
……
In the first year of Chuping, on the Bingxu day of the sixth month in summer.
The summer sun scorches the earth, and tits chirp as they perch on the branches, adding a touch of vitality.
Early morning, in the backyard of Wei Mansion.
After washing up, Wei Zhe leisurely went to the yard and stretched. He did not practice martial arts, but just sat lazily on the corridor basking in the sun.
In fact, after he came back, he had been spending his time like this, and the main thing he did was laziness.
The hostility on the Luoyang battlefield and the exhaustion from the intrigue gradually dissipated in the daylight.
Of course, there is also Guan Yan, who gently tolerates everything about Wei Zhe.
Even though Wei Zhe's actions have been a little rough these days, she remains gentle as ever.
Guan Yan didn't know what the "hardship of war" was, she only knew that if Wei Zhe was happy, she would do anything.
For example, at this moment, seeing Wei Zhe basking in the sun under the corridor and being too lazy to move, she asked the maid to bring breakfast.
After a few small tables were placed under the corridor, the family of three had their breakfast in a warm atmosphere.
A few bowls of meat porridge, a few Hu pancakes, and some pickles—this was the breakfast of the world-famous General Zuo.
However, Wei Zhe didn't think anything was wrong. After eating, he even teased his son with great interest.
Wei Bo, the little fat boy, is three years old now, which is the age when he is ignorant and has the most fun.
Wei Zhe would just throw a gold cake into the yard, and the little guy would happily pick it up.
The father and son had a lot of fun playing with each other.
"Suck, suck, suck! Come on, Chan'er, pick it up!"
When Guan Yan finished packing and walked down the corridor again, this was the scene she saw.
Seeing this, Guan Yan was at a loss whether to laugh or cry, and immediately slapped Wei Zhe in annoyance.
"What are you doing? That's your son, not your army hound!"
After saying that, Guan Yan picked up little Wei Bo helplessly and started cleaning up.
There's no way. In the blink of an eye, the little guy is already covered in dirt.
Upon hearing this, Wei Zhe laughed heartily and said, "A hound is no more fun than my son!"
So the chubby little guy was once again pulled down by this unscrupulous father and the hound game began.
But, after all, there is no way to escape the father's dangerous law.
When Wei Zhe used too much force and accidentally dropped the golden cake into the carp pond, the little guy was stunned.
Looking at the rippling water and the disappearing golden cake, the chubby little Wei Bo burst into tears.
Little Wei Bo cried so sadly, just like a puppy who had lost its favorite bone.
Even though Wei Zhe took out another gold cake from his pocket, the little guy didn't appreciate it at all.
Seeing this, Wei Zhe could only smile awkwardly and look to Guan Yan for help.
Seeing this, Guan Yan glared at him with both anger and amusement, then she hugged the child and coaxed him.
After a long while, the little fat boy, tired of crying, finally calmed down.
However, when he turned around to look for the unscrupulous old man, Wei Zhe had already slipped away quietly.
……
In the front hall of the Wei Mansion, a maid was seen making tea with graceful movements.
The sunlight filtered through the window lattice and sprinkled onto the table like broken gold, and also onto the woman's fair face. Wei Zhe looked up and could even see the fine hairs on the maid's face.
This woman's name was Diao Chan, but she was not the one in history books. She was just a palace maid in Luoyang.
Of course, perhaps the girl adopted by Wang Yun as his adopted daughter might also be of the same identity.
After all, Diao Chan was originally the name of an official position in the palace during the Han Dynasty.
Speaking of which, Diao Chan was originally a "crown" worn on the head of a minister.
At that time, doctors and attendants often wore sable feathers and decorated them with gold into the shape of cicadas. The term "dog's tail connected to a sable" originated from this.
Later, the palace maid who was responsible for managing this kind of crown was often called Diao Chan.
As for the one in front of Wei Zhe, she was just one of the many Diao Chans in the palace.
I can only say that Yuan Jun is worthy of having studied in Luoyang, and he even knows how to take the harem route.
According to Yuan Jun, she was a palace maid whom he met by chance when he was hiding the books in Dongguan.
Because the other party had provided a lot of help, Yuan Jun helped him escape from the palace and hide.
Of course, Wei Zhe also understood his mentality.
After all, Yuan Jun has been away from Liaodong for many years, so it is normal for him to worry about being separated from his trusted team.
In order to appease this old minister, Wei Zhe had no choice but to accept Yuan Jun's kindness.
"My Lord, the collection of books you brought back this time is so vast that I'm afraid we'll need to find another place to store them."
After drinking the tea, Guo Yuan said with a smile in his eyes and a relaxed tone.
To be honest, Guo Yuan was not surprised by Wei Zhe's recovery of Luoyang.
But when he saw the cartloads of books from the Eastern Palace, the Lanting Secret Scrolls and other Luoyang collections, he was stunned.
As calm as he is, he was also somewhat surprised by this scene.
But this is not surprising. The shogunate officials, the retainers of the marquisate, and even the great scholars who knew the news were all surprised. On the day Wei Zhe arrived in Liaodong, he plunged into the treasury to help count and transfer the collection of books.
Wei Zhe had anticipated this, so as soon as Guo Yuan finished speaking, he chuckled and said, "How difficult is that? Just build another library... Forget it, let's just build a college!"
Although most educational places similar to academies are now called "Jingshe" or "Jinglu", Guo Yuan quickly understood what Wei Zhe meant after he briefly explained it.
Guo Yuan's face suddenly turned serious: "My Lord, this is no small matter."
-
I'm really sorry. I was too tired last night, probably because I stayed up all night for several nights in a row. I was just lying in bed to organize my thoughts, but I didn't expect to fall asleep like that... I slept for twelve hours and woke up in the afternoon.
To be honest, after waking up, I felt like my head was hollow and I had no interest in anything. It took me a while to adjust.
Alas, life is not easy, writing a book is not easy, I really don’t know why everything in this world is so difficult! o(╥﹏╥)o
