Chapter 262 A Man Needs to Be Hard, Phoenix Dance Studio, Settling Down

Chapter 262 A Man Needs to Be Hard, Phoenix Dance Studio, Settling Down
"Yan Li's New Work Becomes a Hit, Depicting the Legendary Life of Xue Rengui"

"National viewership ratings surpass 3%, Yan Li and Li Bingbing star in a romantic drama set in the Tang Dynasty."

"The Legend of Xue Rengui is a hit in Nanjing and other areas, with viewership ratings approaching 10% and a peak single-episode rating of approximately 13%."

"Blog views surge, Yan Li's new drama becomes a hit, making him a rising star."

"A rising star in the film and television industry, Yan Li is being considered for roles in multiple productions, including those by renowned directors."

"..."

With the TV series becoming a hit, there are bound to be various news reports, and Yan Li's name has also become active, enjoying a wave of exposure as a popular star.

Yan Li has had a lot of exposure in the past, but it has mostly focused on behind-the-scenes stories and scandals. This time, he seems more like a normal celebrity, with more reports on his acting career.

This has both advantages and disadvantages for Yan Li.

The advantage is that it makes one more famous.

As mentioned before, not everyone enjoys reading gossip and financial news. Yan Li is quite famous, but there are many people who don't know him.

However, the TV series became a hit, giving him another way to be recognized by many people. They may still not know that he is Yan Li, but after watching the show, they know that he is Xue Rengui.

Moreover, Xue Rengui's positive film and television image has greatly enhanced his personal image.

In particular, Xue Rengui's heroic and rugged appearance and temperament have won him many female fans and young admirers.

As I said before, the character and the actor are not always easy to separate.

Especially for some ordinary viewers and young viewers with low awareness, they instinctively conflate TV drama characters with real people.

If you dislike a character, you'll also dislike the actor; if you like a character, you'll also like the actor.

The popularity of Xue Rengui will likely extend that same affection to Yan Li.

As people get to know more in the future, some may be disappointed and leave, or even turn against the fandom, while others may stay and become loyal fans.

After all, setting aside his lifestyle, Yan Li's overall qualities are quite impressive, making him a powerful tool for attracting fans in the entertainment industry.

The downside is that it attracted a lot of attention, which caused some inconvenience to his personal life.

Yan Li used to run into some fans and people who knew him when he went out, but now it happens much more frequently.

Even the office building where Yi'an Company is located has had to hire a lot of new security guards to maintain order.

In addition, during social gatherings, clients and friends would often tease him and ask for his autograph, but Yan Li didn't care and always regarded it as jealousy.

If you guys can become famous, you can't even if you want to.

Although Yan Li didn't say it, he actually enjoyed the moment when his popularity soared.

He's also an actor, so of course he has that vanity.
When he's not busy, Yan Li will leave work through the main entrance to sign autographs for fans. He even has autographed photos and DVDs in his bag. The day before, he even attended a film and television awards ceremony and served as an award presenter.

In Dong Xuan's words, Yan Li has been like a fire breaking out in a sack these past few days—he's really burning it out.

"Teacher Dong's use of such sharp words is unbecoming of a teacher."

Yan Li strongly protested Dong Xuan's statement. Fan Xiaopang joined the cast of "Investiture of the Gods 2". Qin Lan was busy with the promotion of "The Palace of the Qing Dynasty". Wang Ou and the others were also busy with their own things. Yan Li returned to the capital and basically stayed with Dong Xuan.

"Aren't you my student?"

Dong Xuan rolled her eyes, but Yan Li disagreed: "Who said that? I've had my fair share of sex education lessons from Teacher Dong in private..."

Before he could finish speaking, Dong Xuan covered his mouth: "Don't talk nonsense, or I'll be dead if someone hears this."

"Why don't you worry about this when you're in class?"

Yan Li teased again, and seeing that Dong Xuan was about to get angry, he put on his own clothes.

"Alright, you can play by yourself. I have a business dinner tonight, and I probably won't be back until after 10 pm."

"Drink less."

Dong Xuan stepped forward and straightened his collar, then suddenly remembered something.

"Guan Yue asked me to find her a role, any role would do, she just wanted to relax."

Yan Li understood that after the Spring Festival, Guan Yue and Tong Dawei officially broke up. Guan Yue was not in a good state and was not suitable to stay at the school to teach, so she planned to go out to film and get away from Beijing to change her mood.

"Okay, I'll put in a good word with you later."

Yi An now produces, invests in, and distributes many films and television series. She also has a voice in many production teams. If she doesn't have any excessive demands, it's just a matter of Yan Li saying a word to arrange a role for her.

There's not even a need for Yan Li; Dong Xuan could have easily handled it privately by finding someone. Bringing it up to Yan Li would just be a formality.

Yan Li left, and Dong Xuan called Guan Yue, only to learn that the latter was drinking alone at home, with her old classmate Yin Xu keeping her company.

Yin Xu was Dong Xuan's best friend besides Guan Yue back in college. Although they had drifted apart for various reasons in the past two years, they had never lost touch.

It's worth mentioning that Yin Xu was the first of the three to get married.

Last year, she married Zhang Ziyi's brother, Zhang Zinan. Guan Yue and Dong Xuan attended the wedding and almost became bridesmaids.

After getting married, Yin Xu became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter. She then suspended her work and focused on her family.

Upon hearing this, Dong Xuan also drove to Guan Yue's residence. The latter was already a little drunk. Yin Xu, on the other hand, did not drink because he had to go home to take care of his child.

Upon seeing Dong Xuan arrive, Yin Xu, who hadn't seen her for some time, chatted with her about their recent lives, and both felt somewhat emotional.

Dong Xuan remained the same; her relationship with Yan Li was stable, and her career was also stable.

She acts when there are roles to play, and teaches when there aren't. She has been working at the Beijing Film Academy for almost three years since 2004, and she will soon graduate with her postgraduate degree.

In other words, after the summer vacation, Dong Xuan will be a full-fledged teacher at the Beijing Film Academy, not just a teaching assistant, and her academic qualifications will change from a bachelor's degree to a master's degree.

Yin Xu's situation is more complicated.

Well, after graduation, she did only so-so, not having acted in many films or TV series, which is true for most of the students who graduated from the Beijing Film Academy.

It's extremely rare for someone like Dong Xuan to play a leading role before graduation and continue to steadily develop her career in recent years.

While her career was not going well, Yin Xu was doing well in love, attracting the attention of Zhang Ziyi's brother, Zhang Zinan, who pursued her relentlessly.

At the time, Zhang Zinan was doing quite well. He was his sister's agent. As one of the most popular actresses at the time, Zhang Ziyi earned a considerable income, and as her agent and older brother, Zhang Zinan also had a substantial income and resources.

Unable to resist his advances, Yin Xu married Zhang Zinan, who was ten years her senior.

However, it was only after marrying into the Zhang family that Yin Xu realized she had been somewhat deceived.

Zhang Zinan has no ability and can only rely on his sister for a living, which is bad enough, but the key is that he also likes to cause trouble and has caused Zhang Ziyi a lot of trouble before.

So, while Zhang Zinan is nominally her sister's agent, many of her duties have actually been delegated to a professional team by Zhang Ziyi.

To put it bluntly, Zhang Zinan has a good reputation but no money or resources.

Although she is the famous sister-in-law of Zhang Ziyi, the whole family depends on Zhang for their livelihood, so she doesn't put on airs or even have to be subservient to her sister-in-law.

This is one of the reasons why Yin Xu has become somewhat estranged from Dong Xuan and Guan Yue.

Yan Li is a top bachelor in the industry, and Tong Dawei is a promising young actor. She has the worst man in the industry, and she always feels ashamed.

However, now that Guan Yue and Tong Dawei have broken up, Yin Xu has taken the initiative to care about his old classmate.

Dong Xuan didn't want to think the worst of people, but Yin Xu's behavior was indeed intriguing.

Even Guan Yue was aware of this, and as soon as Yin Xu left, she spoke up in a low voice.

"It's more like they came specifically to see me, not to make a fool of me."

Hate those who have, laugh at those who don't!
Even if you had a good relationship in college, it couldn't overcome the complexities of human nature.

Not to mention Yin Xu, Guan Yue and Dong Xuan have such a good relationship that they sometimes envy and are jealous of each other. They can't bear to think about it too much or examine it closely.

Dong Xuan didn't say anything, but silently poured Guan Yue a glass of wine: "Try to think positively."

Guan Yue gave a bitter smile. How could she possibly be happy? Years of relationship, all the investment, expectations, and dreams, all vanished like a bubble. The fact that she's only drinking alone now shows how strong her mental fortitude is.

"I've failed, but you have to hang in there."

Guan Yue took a sip of wine and began to advise Dong Xuan, saying that only by experiencing loss can one truly appreciate what they have.

Yan Li is more sought after than Tong Dawei, and Dong Xuan has also put in more effort than her. If she ends up with someone else, she will die with regrets.

"Alright, stop worrying about it."

Dong Xuan pursed her lips and comforted Guan Yue for a while, helping her to sleep before preparing to leave. But as soon as she went downstairs, she heard a car horn—Yan Li's car.

Dong Xuan opened the car door and got in: "Why are you here?"

"The party ended early, and I didn't drink. Going home would be boring, so I came to pick you up on the way. Shh, look over there."

Yan Li gave a brief explanation, then pointed to a figure in the distant woods.

Dong Xuan looked for a while, but didn't recognize him: "Who is it?"

"Dawei, I guess."

Dong Xuan looked for a while longer, but still couldn't recognize him. Mainly because of the distance and the fact that the other person was wrapped up tightly, she really couldn't recognize that it was Tong Dawei.

"It's him. I saw his car outside the community."

Dong Xuan perked up upon hearing this: "So, Tong Dawei doesn't want to break up?"

Yan Li stroked his chin: "Probably. I've been here for more than ten minutes, and this kid has been looking around downstairs the whole time, but he hasn't come upstairs yet. I guess he's hesitating or feeling guilty."

Guan Yue had previously issued an ultimatum, but he didn't accept it, and they eventually broke up.

Once they actually break up, they'll probably feel the pain again and desperately want to get back together, but for some reason, they won't dare to take any action.

"What should I do?"

Dong Xuan took out her phone: "I'll call Guan Yue and ask her to come down."

Yan Li shook his head: "Don't rush, let's wait and see. If he wants to win him back, he will definitely take action. If you rush him while he is hesitating, you will only startle him."

"Moreover, since Guan Yue broke up with him and he wants to get back together, the initiative is in Guan Yue's hands. At this time, we need to stretch things out, make sure we're in a good position, and make this guy behave himself in one go."

Yan Li spoke eloquently, leaving Dong Xuan somewhat bewildered: "Aren't you on his side? Why are you giving Guan Yue advice now?"

"I am acting in the spirit of justice."

Yan Li curled his lips and then said, "This kid has caused you a lot of trouble. Giving him a good beating will help vent your anger."

Dong Xuan was speechless, but she still called Guan Yue to inform her.

If you want to vent your anger, there are plenty of ways to do it later. Now that the two of them are showing signs of reconciliation, we should hurry up and help them get back together, lest they really break up and it will be too late to regret it.

When Guan Yue heard that Tong Dawei had arrived, she sounded excited, clearly she was also holding back her anger.

But she didn't say how exactly to proceed. Dong Xuan wanted to ask, but Yan Li stopped her.

"That's enough for now. The rest is beyond our control as outsiders."

Yan Li muttered to himself before driving away. Dong Xuan was anxious and restless on the way, unable to resist asking him questions out of curiosity.

"If we had a fight, and you were in the same situation as Tong Dawei, what would you do?"

"I certainly won't be foolish enough to wait downstairs."

Yan Li first refuted Tong Dawei's approach, then pondered for a moment, put himself in Tong's shoes, and uttered a few words.

"Go upstairs, open the door, take off your clothes, and I'll seduce you."

Dong Xuan: "..."

She couldn't help but curse him as a scoundrel, but Yan Li remained calm: "It's normal for couples to fight in bed and make up before they get out of bed."

Ultimately, Tong Dawei simply wasn't tough enough!

He's not tough, his methods aren't tough, and his heart isn't tough. If he could have done even two of those three things, he wouldn't be in such a sorry state, caught in a dilemma.

Given the situation today, we should grit our teeth and head upstairs. Even if we can't take him down directly, we can at least break the ice. It's better than him pacing around downstairs.

They've already cheated on their partner, what's the point of pretending to be a devoted lover if they don't have some shamelessness?

"I don't know if I'm lucky or unlucky."

Seeing Yan Li's confident demeanor, Dong Xuan couldn't help but speak softly.

Luckily, she didn't have to "torture each other" like Guan Yue and Tong Dawei; she just had to wait for Yan Li to make his move.

Bad luck. I'll be completely controlled by this bastard for the rest of my life, at his mercy.

"Then you must be lucky."

Yan Li, shameless as ever, reached out and grabbed Dong Xuan's small hand, gently stroking it. "Do you still have any melon seeds at home? Buy some. Guan Yue will probably call you tonight, and we'll have some gossip to hear."

"you're so boring."

Dong Xuan complained for a moment, then said, "I have sunflower seeds, but I want to eat pistachios, and I'll also prepare some potato chips or something."

"..."

Yan Li shook her head: "Guan Yue is just unlucky to have such a good friend like you."

...

Yan Li later learned that Tong Dawei had chickened out that night, wandered around for most of the night, and finally left.

Although he didn't go upstairs, it wasn't entirely without effect. He was frozen for several hours, which created a pitiful effect and softened Guan Yue's heart considerably.

However, Guan Yue still did not agree to get back together, or rather, she was taking the opportunity to set conditions and test Tong Dawei.

Tong Dawei, having been frozen for most of the night, figured things out and started to fawn over Guan Yue, bringing her food and drinks whenever he had free time. Even Dong Xuan joined him for breakfast a few times.

At this point, Yan Li was too lazy to follow up.

The chances of them getting back together are very high; the rest will just involve negotiating the terms.

Yan Li guessed that Guan Yue might take the opportunity to marry Tong Dawei and put an end to the matter to prevent others from taking advantage of her again.

This might not be a good thing for Yan Li. Guan Yue's marriage might provoke Dong Xuan.

As mentioned earlier, Dong Xuan's career is becoming more stable. She will soon become a full-time teacher at the Beijing Film Academy, which will reduce her workload and improve her safety.

To put it bluntly, I have more free time and more opportunity to ponder Yan Li.

Dong Xuan is not young either. She is a year older than Yan Li and is already 27 years old. She will soon be 30.

These days, although there's a lot of encouragement for late marriage and childbirth, and the entertainment industry is more open-minded, many people still haven't changed their mindset.

There is a popular term nowadays called "leftover men and women," which generally refers to older unmarried men and women. The term "older" usually means over 30 years old, but can also be interpreted as 25 to 30 years old.

Yan Li usually tries to avoid talking about this topic, dodging the question from every angle, but no matter how much he tries to hide it, he can't resist the shock of Guan Yue's best friend getting married.

"Do evil."

If it weren't so immoral, Yan Li would have liked to step in and ruin things for Tong and Guan, wouldn't that just cause them trouble?

In comparison, the Teddy Sisters were more supportive. They heard that Li Xiaolu and Li Chen were having a huge fight, which showed Qin Lan the true colors of an "honest man" and earned Yan Li a lot more points.

This is right!

Yan Li hoped that Li Chen would persevere a little longer, and preferably teach Li Xiaolu a lesson, so that he wouldn't be as spineless as Tong Dawei.

She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and at Pratt Institute, New York, and holds BA and MA degrees in art history and philosophy from the University of Iceland. Sigrún lives and works in Iceland.

In late February, Yan Li took some time to visit the soon-to-open Phoenix Dance Studio.

After all, it was Wang Ou, Wu Jiani, and Yang Rong who ran the shop. Wu Jiani, in particular, had put in a lot of effort, running around and managing everything. Yan Li had to come and take a look.

Phoenix Dance Studio isn't very large, but its decor is quite exquisite and luxurious, fitting its mid-to-high-end positioning—emphasizing quality over quantity.

Yan Li glanced at the dance teachers; they were all graduates of the Beijing Dance Academy, and two of them worked part-time for national-level dance troupes—the lineup was quite impressive.

However, the best thing is the three boss ladies. Wang, Wu, and Yang, as senior executives and honorary teachers, will be the biggest selling point of the Phoenix Sisters.

How's the student recruitment going?

Yan Li sat on the sofa in Wu Jiani's office and asked curiously. The latter closed the door, drew the curtains, and sat down next to Yan Li.

"We started recruiting during the winter break, and we currently have about 20 students, but it's mainly a short-term trial."

After all, it's a newly opened dance studio, and the fees are quite high. Even with the added benefit of celebrity endorsements, parents are still inclined to wait and see.

Yan Li said thoughtfully, "I think you need to broaden your thinking and not just use celebrity status to recruit students. You can expand your approach."

"Expand what?"

Wu Jiani didn't quite understand, but Yan Li glanced at her and said, "Of course, it's about expanding resources."

"I don't understand dance, but you know about competitions and all that stuff. But besides dance, you also have film and television resources."

"Students who come to our dance studio can be recommended by you to participate in some of Yi An's plays and movies if the opportunity is right."

"It's hard to say about big roles. For some child roles or supporting roles in dance, I'll just give them a heads-up. Whoever it is, it's all the same. Why not use our own people?"

"You can learn dance and have the opportunity to act. Isn't that the advantage of your dance studio?"

"..."

This tactic isn't unique to Yan Li; many children's art training institutions use similar methods.

The most famous one is Shichahai Martial Arts School, which has become a cradle of kung fu superstars.

Many parents send their children to school hoping they will become the next Jet Li.

Many child stars are able to act in TV dramas at a young age, partly due to chance or family connections, but many also rise to fame through connections with relevant organizations.

Many people who study dance are willing to pursue an artistic career, and even more want to become famous and enter the entertainment industry.

Phoenix Dance Studio has a shortcut that can definitely attract many students.

If it grows bigger in the future, it can expand into other areas besides dance, such as performance, modeling, and vocal music. Some even go so far as to enter the child star agency business.

"This……"

Wu Jiani hesitated. She just wanted to open a dance studio, teach dance, and make some money. She didn't have any big ambitions. Yan Li's idea caught her off guard.

"I was just saying. You can use this as a gimmick to make it easier to recruit students. You don't necessarily have to make it that big."

Upon seeing this, Yan Li offered a few words of comfort. It was a bit of an occupational hazard of his; whenever he saw a business opportunity, he would think about how to expand and strengthen it.

In fact, if Wu Jiani had the ability and courage, she wouldn't need to do any side jobs; she could just climb up the entertainment industry directly.

"Don't worry too much. Just do things at your own pace. If you lose money, you lose money."

Yan Li smoothed down Wu Jiani's slightly furrowed brows. As the head of the dance studio, she was under some pressure.

"Uh-huh."

Feeling the warmth of Yan Li's fingers, Wu Jiani reluctantly pressed her forehead against Yan Li's palm.

Yan Li was slightly taken aback, then pulled the person close, and the latter kissed him passionately.

Wu Jiani had a low profile among Yan Li's group of women and was not particularly favored; Yan Li also showed her little concern.

But she was quite content, especially after Yan Li fulfilled her wish and invested in a dance studio for her. She was particularly obedient to Yan Li, and she cooperated fully with Yan Li's attempts to get her to be with Wang Ou several times.

This time, coinciding with the important moment of the upcoming opening of the dance studio, and hearing Yan Li's considerate advice and reassurance that she not to worry about the business, Wu Jiani couldn't help but feel emotional.

"Stay with me tonight."

"it is good."

Even if Yan Li is very busy, he won't easily lose his temper, but that doesn't stop him from fighting for his own benefits.

As the behind-the-scenes boss, he needed to check the quality of the dance costumes in the dance studio…

...

Apartment, bedroom

Wu Jiani, who has already moved, lives in a place just one building away from Wang Ou, which is extremely convenient for her.

Unfortunately, Wang Ou is no longer in Beijing, leaving Wu Jiani to face the storm alone.

However, Wu Jiani did not forget her sister Ou, and made a phone call to Wang Ou during the time.

Yan Li: "..."

It's hard to say about others, but this girl was definitely corrupted by Wang Ou.

Wang Ou on the other end of the phone was furious and said he would deal with Wu Jiani later.

Yan Li will be going to Hengdian to film "The Legend of the Gods 2" in a few days. Wang Ou will also be joining the crew after finishing "The Palace of Qing Dynasty". Then it will be Wu Jiani's turn.

These two are the two demons of Xuanyuan, and they will definitely have a significant role in "Investiture of the Gods 2".
Due to script adjustments, the two of them don't have as many scenes with Yan Li and Fan Xiaopang, but they still have some, so they will definitely meet again soon.

Faced with Wang Ou's threat, Wu Jiani whimpered and begged Yan Li for help.

It's clear that she's in a good mood and in good spirits today. In the past, it was always Wang Ou who bullied her, and she rarely provoked him.

While the two bickered, Yan Li continued with his own business. Only after Wu Jiani's voice had become hoarse did he inquire about the promotion of "The Imperial Palace of the Qing Dynasty".

This drama will take over the time slot of "The Legend of Xue Rengui" in no more than a week.

Although the selling price was not as high as the former, the simultaneous broadcast by four satellite TV stations created a significant buzz.

Because of the presence of Wang Ou, the company's second-in-command, and other company artists such as Qiao Zhenyu and Zhang Zhilin, Yan Li took this drama quite seriously.

Because "The Palace of Qing Dynasty" is a hit, it will likely add a few more cash cows to the company.

Wang Ou's voice was somewhat resentful, but he still honestly reported on the progress of the publicity campaign and took the opportunity to complain about Qin Lan and Huo Siyan.

Qin Lan was too afraid to sue, so she left it at that.

Huo Siyan didn't let any of the crickets go unchecked, chirping them endlessly, as if it would be a waste of money for her to eat an extra tea egg for breakfast.

Yan Li knew without asking that this woman had most likely suffered at the hands of Huo Siyan and Qin Lan, especially Huo Siyan, otherwise she wouldn't have been so resentful.

"Alright, I'll help you get revenge later."

Yan Li stopped Wang Ou from rambling on, but Wang Ou was quick-witted: "How do you plan to avenge me?"

"Aren't you going to talk about it? You can vent your anger later."

Wang Ou: "..."

Forget it, you might as well pay for it with me. Don't let that shorty get away with it...

...

In early March, most of the episodes of "The Legend of Xue Rengui" had been broadcast. After the various foreshadowing plots were completed, the climax of the series finally arrived.

The series of events following the ascension of the wise minister in the dream was incredibly exciting, which led to a surge in the TV series' ratings. Although it didn't break 4, it wasn't far off.

What's even more surprising is that the show's reruns have been quite successful.

In addition to the original satellite TV channels, local channels and county-level stations across the country have also given good rebroadcast data. One local channel in Jiangxi Province even topped the list of rebroadcasts, surpassing other original TV dramas.

This shows that "The Legend of Xue Rengui" is not a fleeting hit, but rather has a significant long-tail effect.

As we all know, dramas with a high long-tail effect are the best at promoting actors and generating revenue for a longer period of time.

This has also attracted many TV stations to purchase the rights to broadcast the show in the second or third round, at a high price.

A rough estimate suggests that if the production of "The Legend of Xue Rengui" proceeds smoothly, it should bring Yi'an a profit of approximately 2000 million.

Another noteworthy point is that Yan Li's salary has also increased significantly.

Yan Li's previous salary was influenced by many off-screen factors, and his price was somewhat inflated compared to that of ordinary actors. However, since his roles were not many and he was the one who led the projects, he often only received a friendly price.

But after "The Legend of Xue Rengui", Yan Li finally got a hit drama as the male lead, and his salary also met the market standard.

A single episode of a TV series can earn 5 to 8 yuan, while a movie actor's salary can range from 80 to 120 yuan.

This wasn't just something Yan Li made up; it was based on market assessments and a comprehensive calculation of the film and television offers that came to him.

Of course, this refers to normal invitations. There are also some messy production teams that offer 10+ per episode or even packages costing several million.

Yan Li even received an offer for a film with a salary of tens of millions.

It sounds great, right? But the production team was actually planning to use Yan Li's name to raise funds, turn the project into Yan Li's project, and then give him 1000 million.

To put it bluntly, they're just taking advantage of Yan Li for free. They'll split the money among themselves and leave the mess for Yan Li to clean up.

Even worse, some tried to get Yan Li involved in money laundering schemes. Their various tactics opened Yan Li's eyes to the truth, as he had seen the inside story through the system.

He never intended to participate in other projects in the first place, and now he's even more obedient.

Not to mention leading roles, even when Yu Zheng and Huayi Brothers tried to get him to act, he refused, preferring to take a break and focus on developing his acting skills.
