Light's Dawn of Azeroth

Chapter 489, Part 28: Onyxia Splits the Mountain to Save Her Mother

Chapter 489, Section 28: Onyxia Splits the Mountain to Save Her Mother

Onyxia's mission to rescue her mother in Grim Batol is certainly not something she's doing alone.

Her five-colored dragon team is all here, partly to help her sister fulfill her important wish, and partly to help another member of the five-colored dragon team achieve his "life ideal".

"Those corrupted dragon eggs are down there! Even deeper beneath the dwarven city, the black dragons have secretly dug even larger holes in the collapsed city and drawn magma from underground to heat them, providing a comfortable environment for the dragon eggs."

I made a special trip to see it!

A powerful black dragonkin guarded the dragon egg breeding grounds, and Deathwing also summoned the terrifying Void monster, the 'Duke of the Abyss,' to infuse the dragon eggs with Void energy.

Rheastarsar, the red dragon, shared the information she had gathered with her companions. The goblin-like dragon, with a serious expression, waved her finger and said:
"I think that means Xalatas improved the method of creating Twilight Dragons. That madwoman is no longer satisfied with just turning adult black dragons into Twilight Dragons! She is trying to erode black dragon eggs into 'Twilight Dragon Eggs' in order to achieve rapid reproduction of Twilight Dragons."

Those creatures feed on energy, and as long as they have enough energy to devour, their growth rate will far exceed that of ordinary dragons.

If left unchecked, it could quickly create a truly world-destroying army for Deathwing.

Rheastars' eyes lit up when she talked about the dragon eggs.

When he rescued her from C'Thun's Fallen Temple, Diakum commented that this red dragon was just as "strange" as the other female dragons in the five-colored dragonflight.

Here's why.

Rhea Stazar is a rare "black dragon sympathizer" in the Red Dragonflight. Against the backdrop of the Dragon Aspects' overall efforts to exterminate the black dragons, Rhea has been trying to "save" them.

Of course, she was not a powerful guardian dragon in the past, so the so-called salvation could only be achieved through "purification".

She had planned to acquire a batch of corrupted black dragon eggs and try to purify them using various methods.

If it weren't for the timeline shift that trapped Rheastarsar in the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj for a thousand years, her ambitious plan would probably have been implemented long ago, leading to a fatal disaster that she couldn't possibly handle.

After all, she was just an ordinary red dragon who thought of stealing a black dragon's egg for "purification." She really didn't consider Deathwing and his evil offspring at all. If Rheastarsar had actually done that, Deathwing probably wouldn't have needed to lift a finger; Nefarian or Onyxia could have executed her.

In official history, this is how this guy died!

However, fate is so magical. After encountering the Vigilantes, Rheastars finally found the opportunity to help her accomplish this "great undertaking" with the help of her trustworthy companions.

"The black dragons of Sabelion have stormed into the upper levels of Grim Batol. They will soon deal with the Twilight Dragonkin guarding the dragon eggs. We'll rush in and take down that Faceless General together with Blackhorn."

Of course, the main focus is on the dragon eggs!

Rheastassa said to her companions:
"Blackhorn has already told me that we will join forces to try to purify the corruption in the dragon egg with the Hammer of Khaz'goroth. I have a whole plan in place, and perhaps I should also use the Flame of Life bestowed by Mother World to ensure the safety of this process."

There are at least several hundred dragon eggs below, and we need to rescue at least two-thirds of them.

Of course, the ideal scenario is to rescue them all, so we have enough samples to ensure that Blackhorn and I can find a reusable purification method.

She was genuinely interested in this matter, rubbing her hands together eagerly, and said:
"I have already asked the goblins of the Hot Sands Consortium to build me a laboratory in a valley in the Barrens, and I have also obtained from them tools made with the most advanced Titan technology, which is enough to ensure that these dragon eggs will not hatch prematurely."

"You yourself hardly lay any eggs, so why are you so interested in black dragon eggs?"

Teregosa retorted:
“I thought Chromie was crazy enough, but I didn’t expect you to be the most deeply hidden ‘madwoman’ among us. But if this can purify the corrupted black dragon egg, it’s not a bad thing for Mother World.”

The establishment of a pure Black Dragon Legion can also strengthen the Saviors' faction.

But what about Onyxia's mother?
Where is Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons?

"At the very bottom! In the lava."

Rheastassa said with a mixture of unease and horror:

"I saw her body in the lava, it was horrible! Lady Sinestra looked like she had been torn apart, there wasn't a single part of her body that was intact, her wings were broken, and the dragon blood flowing from the wounds of her body was mingling with the surrounding lava."

It's practically like a 'dragon horror movie'.

I simply cannot imagine what kind of catastrophe could have shattered Lady Hynestra's body like that.

The other four female dragons all looked at Onyxia, but the black dragon princess maintained an eerie silence on this matter. She was clearly unwilling to answer the question, after all, the truth was somewhat shameful and vulgar.

"woooooo"

A deep horn sounded from the wetland mountains at dawn, signaling that Sabelian's black dragons had breached the upper defenses of Grim Batol.

Onyxia then took the lead, leaping down from the height and transforming into the form of a Nergigante in mid-air before swooping down. Her remaining sisters followed closely behind, their various peculiar appearances unable to conceal their formidable power.

They didn't need to change direction; they flew directly into the dark city through the huge rift above the old dwarven city. All they could see were dragonmen burned to death by the black dragons, some "Dragon Worship" dragonborn believers, and some strange corpses that were hard to describe.

Those were creatures summoned from the void by Xalatas's servants.

An unsettling atmosphere permeated the city, much like the current capital of Lordaeron. Its darkness and shadows had been imbued with a lifelike quality, lurking and flowing throughout the ruins, "peeping" at the dragons that had flown into the city from among the crumbling walls.

The war that took place in this city at the end of the War of the Three Hammers occurred hundreds of years ago, but the final curse of the Black Iron Witch Queen Mordgul completely destroyed the place.

When you're actually there, even Teregosa is saying, "This is a curse that no ordinary person could possibly create."

No curse can last for hundreds of years and continue to expand. This is clearly malice from the void. To be honest, even the black dragons, who are also void creatures, would not feel comfortable here.

They are not from the same faction of Fallen Ones as Xal'atath, and Void creatures don't share any "fraternal code." The methods of the Void Heralds are equally deadly to the Black Dragons.

"You're a little late."

The somber Saberian leaned on a black obsidian-like dragon scale sword. Beside him were about twenty or thirty "people," all humanoid phantoms with black hair and black eyes, clearly members of the Prestor family.

Onyxia looked them over.

She knew some of them well, but there were others she had never met before.

"Your faction isn't as exaggerated as I thought."

The Black Dragon Princess sneered:
"What can such a small number of people do? For so many years, although the Black Dragon Legion has always been hidden in the shadow of mortals, we have never stopped multiplying and thriving."

"These are just adult black dragons; the underage cubs shouldn't be sent to the battlefield."

Saberian said coldly:
"Once you get to the Northern Frontier, you'll know just how many followers I have! Especially after Nefarian was turned into a monster, I basically took over your brother's forces. They originally intended to pledge allegiance to you, but..."

The black dragon glanced at the halo in Onyxia's eyes, shook its head, and didn't continue. It simply made a gesture and said:
"Ahead lies the dragon egg hatchery, personally guarded by the powerful nest guardian Diulna. She is the most senior breeder and hatchling caretaker under my father's command, and it is said that she had already served my father back in the Dragon Islands."

Its strength should not be underestimated.

"We'll deal with her. You and your sisters go after the 'Abyss Duke.' He's a void creature, very effective against us, but his void laws are useless against you Lightforged."

"it is good."

Onyxia was satisfied with this tactical arrangement, and then asked:

"Where's Blackhorn? Its warhammer is so powerful, isn't it planning to join the battle?"

“Alas, our ‘Brother Abbysian’ is a rare ‘pacifist black dragon.’ I don’t even know how those words are associated with the term ‘black dragon,’ but the fact is that he is indeed a freak.”

Sabrian uttered the word with some difficulty, eliciting mocking laughter from the black dragons beside him. He waved his hand and said:

"However, Blackhorn has its mission. It will use the Hammer of Khaz'goros to open a path for us to the lower levels and use the Stone Hammer to control your out-of-control mother."

You know how badly she's been tortured all these years. Although I'm a villain and I won't whitewash myself, I still hope the Vigilant can heal her.

Even Black Dragon found this pain somewhat terrifying.

Lady Sinestra is highly respected within the Black Dragon Legion; if she were willing to step in and clean up the mess, the Legion's reconstruction would be on the fast track.

"Hmph, that's my mother."

Onyxia grinned, said no more, and led her sisters into the hatchery in front of them.

This place was once the royal palace of the dwarves. The terrain was vast but covered with piles of dragon eggs. The void energy surging from the ground constantly poured into these dragon eggs, and some of them had already developed the purplish-red shells that were unique to Twilight Dragons.

As they charged in, the burly black dragonman immediately brandished his staff, roaring at the intruders and ordering the mature dragon eggs to quickly hatch into dangerous twilight whelps to join the battle.

Deeper into the hatchery, a colossal void beast with crab claws and strange spots resembling seafood burst forth.

A Faceless General!
A true demigod of the abyss was slammed headfirst into the carapace of Onyxia's chest with a vicious headbutt.

The opponent howled and tried to strangle the Black Dragon Princess, but was constantly forced back by the scalding spikes burning with holy light.

The enraged Onyxia could clearly feel her mother at her feet. She could hear Sinestra's painful sobs and cries. She had never been able to bear to see her mother suffer before, and now, after being "blessed" by the Holy Light, she could not bear it even more.

Driven by the pain of her loved ones' suffering, she became ferocious, slamming a claw onto the Abyss Duke's head and spewing forth a torrent of scorching holy light.

Her sisters then each cast their spells.

In an instant, ice spikes, lightning, and dream bindings were added one after another. Chromie flew around, giving the void creatures the time slowing effect and accelerating the time flow of the five-colored dragon. This "Bloodlust" was activated at just the right time.

All five of them are dragons personally blessed by Mother World, and they have extremely strong resistance to the pollution and erosion of the void power.

As the Abyss Duke roared and wielded his Dark Storm, Onyxia disdained to dodge, charging into the corrosive black storm to continue her fight. Her rousing roars echoed like war drums in the breeding grounds, causing the Wildhammer dwarves who had followed the Watchers back to the "Old City" to shrink back in fear.

The Wildhammer dwarves weren't afraid of dragons, but considering there were at least thirty dragons "fighting" in the city right now, they couldn't afford to be careless.

“Please follow me, Vigilant. Our clan’s records detail the location where the Black Iron Witch Queen cast her curse.”

The Wildhammer dwarves' current leader, Kurdran Wildhammer, fully armed, personally led Diakum to find the city's "Dark Source."

Amidst the constant roars of dragons, his battle brethren, Falstad Wildhammer, led a squad of elite gryphon riders and Wildhammer shamans to guard the area.

The ability to purify Grim Batol is of great significance to the Wildhammer dwarves. Although the clan has adapted to the environment of Ark's Nest and established a new castle there, they are unlikely to move back, but it is still the ancestral land of the Wildhammer dwarves, and they do not want to see the place where their ancestors lived forever shrouded in darkness.

"I heard that during the War of the Three Hammers, Highlord Kaderos of the Wildhammer Dwarves executed the Dark Iron Witch Queen with a single, deadly charge?"

Diakum asked:

"What did you do with Mordgood's body in the end?"

"The answer is that we didn't have time to deal with it, vigilant."

Kudran sighed and said:

“I wasn’t born yet, but my father was a close comrade of Highlord Khadros, and he told me clearly that after the Highlord’s desperate counterattack succeeded, the Dark Iron dwarves quickly collapsed, and the Wildhammer warriors carried out the pursuit.”

But upon returning, Mordgood's body was nowhere to be found.

According to my father's exact words, he felt that the wicked Black Iron Witch Queen seemed to have 'melted' into the darkness.

"So she's still here. No wonder every inch of darkness here is filled with the chilling resentment."

Diakum followed the Wildhammer dwarves to the place where the Dark Iron Witch Queen had perished. This was the hall leading to the throne, but every brick here was soaked in darkness, and that substantial darkness was churning, making it impossible for the Wildhammer dwarves to step inside.

In their sorrowful and helpless gaze, the rolling shadows allowed them to see illusions of the past, as if the scene of the Black Iron Witch Queen being killed was repeated countless times.

A chilling scream echoed through the air, like a whisper from the abyss, sending shivers down one's spine.

"She shouted, 'You promised.'"

Diakum translated the spirit-piercing Shathyar language and, under the watchful gaze of the Wildhammer dwarves, drew the Black Empire Blade.

This thing was previously given to the Supreme by the Mantis Elder to awaken the Heart of Darkness, but after the Supreme joined the great cause of "Eternal Reincarnation," the Blade of the Dark Empire returned to the Vigilant's hands after going through a cycle.

He raised the cursed blade that had brought about the tragedy of the Black Iron Witch Queen, and the malevolent darkness in the hall seemed to recognize it.

Countless sharp sounds echoed around as the shadows swirled, causing the brave Wildhammer dwarves to cover their ears and roar.

The "Banshee's Howl," which directly affects the mind, obviously cannot be blocked by plugging the ears, but Diakum waved his hand to gather the power of his heart into a defensive field, protecting the dwarves from the mental invasion.

The invisible yet incredibly strong protective layer intrigued the dwarves, who tried to reach out and touch it, but could not feel anything at all.

The Vigilant spread his fingers, letting the blade of the Dark Empire hover, and shouted:
"You hate it, you crave it back, then come back, return to the darkness! Mordgud, your curse is over, you are free, this dark relic is yours forever."

You can keep it forever; no one will ever take it from you again.

"I don't want freedom, I just want Xalatas!"

A venomous woman screamed from within the boiling darkness:

"I want her to bear my pain, I want her to feel the despair of being abandoned, I don't want the pain of freedom! Ah, it hurts too much!"

"If you behave and stop tormenting this city, I will give you this chance."

Diakum said in Shasyar:

“Xalatas is my enemy. I will give you the right to vengeance. Come back! Let Grim Batol rest in peace. You have tormented this city for over three hundred years. That has been enough.”

"Rest in peace? Ha, who can give me rest in peace?"

The voice emitted a mocking laugh, but under Diakum's gaze, the darkness that swept through the city yielded to it.

This powerful vengeful spirit, over three hundred years old, had no intention of being humble, but she had not yet lost her last shred of reason. She knew that the goodwill of the Watcher could not be refused, otherwise she would have to fight against the darkness beneath the holy light that terrified vengeful spirits.

Thus, Mordgud's resentment, like a beast swallowing water, made the dark, shadowy Grim Batol even more tranquil with each breath.

Finally, it circled the land of death as a black ghostly shadow before surging into the blade of the Dark Empire, leaving no trace of its chilling atmosphere.

The Wildhammer dwarves hiding in the Heart Wall cheered.

They could feel that the city had truly found peace; the boiling shadows had cooled down, and it would no longer devour souls.

But Diakum turned to them and said:

"Three hundred years of coexistence with the Void forces have permanently altered Grim Batol. Although I will take away all of Mordgud's resentment, the city will remain uninhabitable for the next hundred years."

Let's wait until the last vestiges of resentment and bitterness have completely dissipated before considering moving back on a large scale.

"We intend to use this place as an ancestral cemetery, a place of vigilance."

Kurdran Wildhammer bowed respectfully to Diakum. He had prepared many sacred objects for exorcism, but he never expected that the problem that had troubled them for over three hundred years would be so simple in the eyes of the Vigilant.

He said with genuine admiration:
“Aegis Hill is our home now. Grim Batol is the softest memory in the hearts of Wildhammer dwarves, but it is just a memory.”

Thank you, vigilant.

Thank you for relieving us of our burdens, freeing all Wildhammer dwarves from the weight of the past.

We will create the most exquisite statues of the saint for you at Eagle's Nest and here. We will carve an entire mountain so that you will be remembered by the world. I know you don't care about such worldly fame, but this is the best and most solemn way we can commemorate your kindness.

I promise that every Wildhammer dwarf born from this day forward will chant your holy name.

"From now on, the Wildhammer Dwarves will obey any orders you may give them!"

The Watcher accepted the thanks without hesitation, leaving the Wildhammer Dwarves to mourn the dead in the recovered hall. As they entered the black dragons' breeding quarters, they found that both groups of black dragons had already dealt with their opponents.

Rheastha was directing some dragons to carefully move the severely corroded dragon eggs, while the Blackscale Camp's chief, Zakares, looked at the eggs with a sorrowful, helpless, and disgusted expression.

It's easy to imagine how bad the image of Deathwing, who had personally created all of this, had become in the mind of this "son."

The dragons are also oviparous, and they have a natural instinct to protect their eggs.

They could even clearly hear the mournful cries of the undeveloped little creatures inside the dragon eggs—the instinctive calls of their naive consciousness being twisted.

This is so depraved and so evil.

"Protect these eggs."

Diakum said to Zacares:

"They are trying to rebuild the Black Dragon Legion, and perhaps you can join them."

“I have no more desire for the Black Dragon Legion, sir.”

Zacares shook his head frankly and said:
"The past, present, and future that Dragonshire seeks should not have any connection with these corrupt things, as they will only poison us! But we are indeed happy to help the dragon eggs be purified, which is what the Dragonshire should be doing in this era."

I will share everything here with the other scale chiefs.

I believe they will make the same correct judgment as I will.

"Ah."

Diakum nodded with satisfaction, then looked ahead and saw Blackhorn handing the Hammer of Khaz'goroth to Onyxia, saying:

“Come on, your mother is suffering down there. You have more responsibility and right than anyone here to complete this rescue.”

“I’m worried I’ll hurt her.”

Onyxia looked at the stone hammer before her and said:

"I am the Dragon of Holy Light, will it..."

"No, this is not a weapon. Don't worry, it's the tool that Khaz'goroth used to carve the world. It will control the earth. As long as you don't want to harm the Dragon Mother, it won't cause any damage."

Blackhorn encouraged:
"Do it yourself."

"Ah."

Princess Black Dragon glanced back at Diakum, and after the Vigilant nodded, she took a deep breath and accepted the Hammer of Khaz'goroth.

Under the watchful eyes of everyone around, Onyxia swung it forward with a fierce swing.

Thus, amidst the earth-shattering upheaval, the underground region hidden by the black dragons was torn apart like a sheet of paper, as if the power of the Earth Guardians had been released. Without causing any further damage to the already crumbling Grim Batol, the ground collapsed.

It's like a mountain being smoothly split in two, revealing the secrets hidden within.

Within the magma pool that resembled a volcano's crater, Hynestra wailed in anguish as some force consumed the pitiful dragon mother.

"trap!"

Mordgood's voice suddenly rang out from the Dark Empire's Blade; she screamed:

"Xalatas has left a trap, a trap for you! Using the tormented mother dragon as bait, you are about to step into it. The void is watching you! Don't come closer, it's a trap."

"Yes, thanks for reminding me."

Dick grinned.

He knew that Xal'atath wouldn't miss any opportunity to expose his "true colors." This Void Herald was indeed clever and vicious, but unfortunately, none of his cleverness was used for good.
