Chapter 531 Saving one is better than nothing

Chapter 531 Saving one is better than none

Maeve and Clark both noticed the damage to the aircraft's instrument panel immediately.

But Clark didn't have time to argue with Homelander anymore. He instantly appeared in the cockpit, stuffed a candy into the mouth of the pilot whose throat had been slit, and then took out another one and fed it to the pilot whose scalp had been shaved off.

The wounds on the two began to heal at a visible speed. The blood vessels that had been cut and gushing blood from their necks closed and healed. New scalp began to grow on the pale skulls where their scalps had been shaved off, and even hair grew back.

Maeve and Homelander were filled with doubts upon seeing this. They had no idea what kind of drug Superman had taken out, as Superman had never demonstrated such abilities or items before.

But the focus now is on the plane.

When the two pilots awoke from their daze, the first thing they saw was the plane's damaged instrument panel.

"No!"

"No!"

Two gasps of alarm rang out. The pilot, who had just come back to life, turned ashen-faced. Then, he recalled what had just happened and looked at the dead, armed hijacker on the ground, still in shock.

"What do we do now?!" Maeve gritted her teeth and glared at Homelander. "Why didn't we just attack together! You and Superman combined could take that guy down in an instant!"

Homelander's face immediately darkened: "Maeve, are you trying to teach me how to do things?"

"I'm asking you what to do!"

boom!
A loud bang was accompanied by violent shaking, and the entire passenger plane began to sway in the air. The thermal imaging of the aircraft damaged countless circuits and components, and the plane suddenly lost control.

"You need to get outside! Go lift the plane up!"

When faced with Maeve's request, Homelander replied nonchalantly, "Lift it up? How? There's nowhere to stand outside."

"Do whatever you want. Crash the plane back onto orbit, keep it balanced, or rescue all the passengers—do something!"

“I’ll just crash the plane through, and there are 123 people here.”

Homelander laughed, thinking Maeve's current ideas were extremely naive.

"Let's face reality, our mission ends here."

"Damn it, they took at least two or three people with them! We should save as many as we can, there are still children on the plane!"

Enraged, Maeve growled at Homelander, "Saving a few people shouldn't be a problem!"

Homelander ignored her completely and walked toward the back door of the plane—where a gap had been opened and Superman was nowhere to be seen.

“Learn from Superman, Maeve,” Homelander sneered. “He’s much smarter than you. He could tell with a little thought that this mission is unnecessary.”

"We should go."

"You're talking nonsense! Impossible, impossible, Superman wouldn't—"

After cursing a couple of times, Maeve looked bewildered. Superman was almost the spiritual pillar that had recently reawakened her. The reason she dared to rebel and curse Homelander was because Superman gave her some faith and courage, allowing her to face her true self.

In Maeve's mind, "hero" is the most fitting adjective to describe Superman.

But he is indeed gone now.

Why did he run away?

However, the impatient Homelander turned around and pulled her towards the back door. The cold, biting air currents felt like sharp knives scraping across Maeve's body. At that moment, she was exhausted, both physically and mentally, and utterly despondent.

She looked down and saw a pair of eyes beside her.

Those were innocent, naive eyes, but at this moment they appeared panicked, bewildered, and helpless.

When her eyes met those eyes, she saw a longing and hope in them.

It was a little girl holding a doll. She was timidly holding the small doll, feeling lost and confused about her fate. She just felt that everyone in the cabin was crying, so something bad must have happened.

She didn't cry or make a fuss; she just stared blankly at Maeve. Because that was the hero she'd seen on TV, the one who had saved countless lives.

So she asked, "Queen Maeve, will you save us?"

Maeve opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but didn't know what to say.

"hurry up!"

Homelander forcefully pulled her to the back of the plane: "What are you standing there for? The F-16s are almost here! We absolutely cannot be seen!"

"Why not?" Maeve replied instinctively.

"Idiot, do you want the whole world to know that Walter's hero abandoned an entire plane full of people to die?"

These words seemed to awaken Maeve. The words "hero," "a plane full of people," and "waiting to die" pierced her heart like sharp swords. Her eyes gradually focused, and her body stopped running backward with Homelander.

She regained consciousness.

It's strange how I ended up on this path.
She looked down at her right hand and subconsciously touched it. The aftereffects of the comminuted fracture would accompany her for life. The scars from the past remained to this day, and she would feel a dull pain from time to time.

"I initially wanted to be a hero, which is why I embarked on this path."

"What? What are you babbling about?!"

Amidst the howling wind, Homelander pulled Maeve aside again, dragging her to the door: "Stop dawdling, it's time to go!"

Upon hearing Homelander's words, the passengers in the cabin unbuckled their seatbelts and, crying out, rushed to the back of the plane, reaching out their hands to Homelander and Maeve.

"No! Don't go!"

"Oh God, please save us!"

"I don't want to die, I want to live."

"Take us with you! Or at least take them with you!"

Praying, crying, hoping the crowd would gather together, Maeve looked into those eyes and vaguely remembered herself when she was thirteen, on that bus about to fall into the water, with the same pairs of eyes looking at her.

That time, he left a wound on his right hand that would never heal. Will he repeat the same mistake this time?
"Save people."

Maeve's voice was low.

"what?"

"I said, save people."

Maeve reached out and grabbed one person with each hand, pulling the little girl and her mother out of the crowd.

Just like how they desperately pulled that school bus out back then.

She turned around and calmly said to the people of her homeland, "Save as many people as you can."

"Are you fucking insane?! I've already said, we can't save all of these people, so we can't save any of them!"

A sinister glint flashed in Homelander's eyes: "Have I been too lenient with you lately, making you think I'm easy to talk to?"

However, when faced with his questioning, Maeve did not back down or show goodwill as she had before.

Even though Superman is no longer around, she still calmly answered Homelander, "Save as many as you can."

"I said, get out!"

The red light shone again in the eyes of the people of the motherland.

The aircraft's lighting and electrical systems had long since failed, leaving the cabin dark. The Homelander, who had been so aggressive, no longer appeared as kind and sacred as he did on television; instead, he resembled a wild beast ready to devour its prey.
