Chapter 318 A Born Hero
Chapter 318 A Born Hero
"Whoo, whoo, whoo"
Barry was running on the road.
The streetlights on both sides of the street were dazzling, and in the shadows of the light, there was a very familiar house—his childhood home.
More than a decade has passed, and the house seems unchanged. Everything in front of Barry is so familiar, yet so strange. This feeling of things being different and people being different makes his tears flow uncontrollably. He remembers more than a decade ago, on the same night, under the same streetlights, he was running in the same way.
That was the first time in his life he learned the meaning of "parting".
"Beep beep—beep beep—beep beep—"
The sirens of ambulances and police cars were ringing in my ears.
"Whoo, whoo, whoo"
He was out of breath from running. The cold night air filled his lungs through his nostrils. Fear, tension, and sadness weighed on his nerves. He felt nauseous and his legs were weak, but he kept running and running.
He wanted to run all the way home, but the house was surrounded by people, police cars were flashing their lights, and police officers were stopping the surrounding residents and putting up warning banners.
Barry dashed into the crowd, weaved through the gaps between the police cars, and squeezed through the officers' cordon. But since he was just a child, the officers didn't stop him much.
"I didn't do it, I swear to God, I didn't do it!"
A kind-looking middle-aged man was dragged out of the house with his hands tied behind his back by two police officers. Despite his earnest protests of innocence, the officers from the Central City Police Department ignored him. They had seen too many cunning criminals who initially insisted on their innocence, but when overwhelming evidence revealed the truth, all their excuses seemed so weak and shameless.
The irrefutable evidence in the room was that Barry Allen's mother, Henry Allen's wife Nora Allen, was lying on the floor with a knife in her chest, and had passed away. There was no one else in the room except Henry Allen.
After the police ruled out suicide, only one suspect remained at the scene—Barry's father, Henry Allen.
Barry looked around at the officers, feeling confused and panicked. He called out to his father, "Dad, where are they taking you? Where's Mom?"
When Henry saw Barry running over, he immediately shouted back, "Barry, don't go inside!"
He didn't want his son to see how his mother died.
As he was being led into the police car, he couldn't help but repeatedly ask the officers on either side, "What about my son? He's so young! He can't be alone—"
boom!
Henry's voice abruptly stopped as the police car door closed.
Barry watched his father being taken away, utterly distraught. He instinctively went back into the house, wanting to find his mother.
A young detective holding a coffee cup saw Barry and instinctively reached out to stop him: "Kid, this isn't a place for you—"
“Let him in, Sel.”
Joe's voice rang out behind Detective Sel: "At least let him see his mother one last time."
"Joe, do you know that child?"
“His name is Barry, and he and my daughter are childhood friends.”
After saying this, Joe looked up at Barry, his eyes filled with a complex expression that young Barry couldn't fully comprehend. What he did understand was that a corpse lay at Joe's feet, covered with a shroud. Barry walked forward, trembling, his mind somewhat dazed.
A hand was sticking out from under the cloth. The hand looked familiar; I had just made him breakfast this morning.
Those were his mother's hands.
When Barry lifted the shroud and saw his mother's remains, he was overwhelmed by immense grief and fear.
Barry remembers calling his mother's name over and over again, trying to get her to open her eyes again, but it was obviously in vain.
Fortunately, Joe came over and hugged Barry; otherwise, the panic and emptiness of losing everything would have shattered little Barry.
From that day on, Joe had a son, and Barry had a father.
When Barry came to his senses, he was no longer in Central City, but standing on a high-rise building in Star City.
That's right, he ran all the way to another city 600 miles away.
Why did you come looking for me, Barry?
A mature male voice rang out in front of him. A man dressed in a Robin Hood-like green hooded outfit and carrying a bow and arrow was also standing on the rooftop. He turned his head and looked at Barry in front of him: "Just catching up with an old friend?"
"I...I don't know what to do."
Barry asked his best friend, “You see, I’ve spent my whole life thinking about proving the existence of something supernatural, not just being a CSI. Every time I see a crime happen, I’m powerless to stop it. This feeling always reminds me of my father. I couldn’t save him or prove his innocence.”
"Today is the first time I've used this superhuman power. I wanted to do something I couldn't normally do, but I caught Clyde Madon and then he got away. I messed up the first time, Oliver."
“What if the doctor is right?” Barry murmured to himself, “What if I was never born a hero?”
“Well,” Oliver shook his head. “Barry, I’ve met a lot of people in my life—a lot, a great many.”
“I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, but I went through several hells. I’ve seen some sanctimonious rich people and also a lot of vicious madmen.”
"The League of Assassins, government organizations, reclusive geniuses. I know too much about this world—listen, Barry, if there's anyone in this world who's a 'born hero,' it's you."
Green Arrow replied, "I've met so many people, but I've never met anyone as kind, resilient, brave, and honest as you."
“Barry, you can do a lot of things I can’t do. It’s not just about your ability, but about your heart. You have the heart of a hero. Even if you don’t have the ability, you will subconsciously help others.”
“I’m a realist. I’ve killed a lot of villains and bad guys, so I can only walk on the dark side of this city. But you’re different. You carry sunshine with you. You can stand in the sunshine and inspire everyone.”
At this point, Oliver looked directly into Barry's eyes and said earnestly, "I'm glad that a good person like you has acquired this ability, because in the hands of a bad person it can become one of the most terrible tools for evil."
“Barry Allen, I don’t think it was that lightning that struck you—”
"It has chosen you."
