Chapter 564 Wordless
Chapter 564 Wordless
"Do you think I'm a three-year-old?" Wei Xi sneered. "What do you mean by 'the seven-character fortune slip has no words on it'?"
“Fellow Daoist Wei, do not imitate my words,” Yu Jin said, raising his head slightly. “Why would I try to fool you? The Seven-Character Divination is a secret technique of the Heaven and Earth Sect that is not passed on to outsiders, and it has never made a mistake.”
“Please look at the front of this bamboo skewer,” Yu Jin reminded him, “Fellow Daoist Wei is holding it upside down.”
Wei Xi did as instructed and flipped the bamboo skewer over. Feeling the rough texture on it, she became even more suspicious that Yu Jin was talking nonsense.
When Wei Xi turned the bamboo stick over, she did see a symbol on it. It was unlike any writing she had ever seen before, but it resembled an ancient symbol intertwined with the two energies of Yin and Yang.
But it can only be said to be similar. When Wei Xi couldn't control her vision, she was often forced to observe the ancient symbols on the Yin and Yang energies. She had never seen this one on the divination stick before.
Wei Xi raised an eyebrow and flipped the bamboo skewer over again.
Sure enough, there were no symbols on the other side.
"Fellow Daoist Wei is indeed quick to understand," Yu Jin said with satisfaction. "The seven-character divination slip has two sides. The front points to the essence, while the back determines the future."
Wei Xi frowned and said, "Can you tell from this symbol that it is 'neither alive nor dead, neither human nor beast'?"
“I can’t explain the mysteries to you,” Yu Jin said calmly. “This requires talent, and you’re not cut out for it.”
Hearing this, Wei Xi didn't react much. He simply flipped the bamboo skewer over again, pointed to the blank side, and said, "Are you worried about this blank side?"
Yu Jin glanced around warily, and after confirming that no one was paying attention to their movements, he replied, "The reverse break should be familiar to Fellow Daoist Wei."
Wei Xi did indeed know about this, and not only did he know it, he also had a deep impression of it.
"Han Su," Wei Xi said slowly, "Master Han?"
"It is indeed Master Han. My master once told me that there is probably a lot going on with Master Han."
In Wei Xi's mind, Master Han was considered a member of the Qingcheng Sect and was also kind to the younger generation. Therefore, upon hearing these words, she felt a slight displeasure.
But what Yu Jin said next surprised Wei Xi.
"I also asked my master about the reason for this matter. My master only said that Master Han was a pitiful person. She was forced to bear a powerful force and did not have much time left to live."
At this point, Yu Jin suddenly remembered that the Qingcheng Sect was extremely protective of its own, so he quickly added, "Master was once invited by the old sect leader of the Wanjian Sect to come up with a solution, and that's how he learned some of the inside story."
Recalling Master Han's deteriorating health, Wei Xi thought Yu Jin's statement was somewhat credible.
But we can put aside Master Han's past for now; what we need to figure out now is the situation with this city wall.
"As you said, the reverse side breaks off the way forward and backward. The blank back of this bamboo stick means that this place is a place where there is neither coming nor going?"
"Yes and no," Yu Jin scratched his head, "What I mean is exactly what I mean."
Wei Xi almost laughed out of anger, gritting her teeth as she spat out each word, "Oh, you've figured out what I mean?"
As Wei Xi's true and false "glorious deeds" flashed through his mind, Yu Jin, who loved gossip, shuddered and quickly said, "I really... really don't know!"
"The seven-character divination slip is too mysterious, and only a handful of my younger brothers can master it. I remember that there are only three recorded instances in the history of the Heaven and Earth Sect where the reverse side of the seven-character divination slip was blank."
"The first time was when the founding patriarch asked if he could establish a sect, reveal heavenly secrets, and help all living beings. He received a blank answer, which he interpreted as 'neither yes nor no'!"
"The second time was the Golden Age. At the end, an elder in the Heaven and Earth Gate used a seven-character divination slip to ask the cultivators if there was a way out. The slip was reversed and there was no word, so there was no solution. The elder went into seclusion for three months. After he came out, he left the sentence 'It depends on the right time. It cannot be done by man' and then disappeared."
"The exact time of the third one is unverifiable, and the details of the seven-character divination slip's inquiry on that fragment are unclear; nothing more is provided." A bitter smile forced across Yu Jin's stiff face as he murmured, "The fourth seven-character divination slip from the Heavenly Gate, blank on the reverse, actually came from my hand. This is truly..."
"Where did you get the third fragment?"
Originally, Yu Jin was switching between the emotions of "my skills are so awesome" and "there is going to be a major change in the cultivation world". Upon hearing this, he subconsciously replied, "It is said that the incomplete version was found in your sect's Bailu Pavilion. The exact time is unknown, but we know that it was after the Golden Age."
Upon hearing this, Wei Xi's expression became somewhat subtle.
I, Wei, though not very talented, seem to know what the third blank divination slip on the reverse side is related to.
The cultivators from Tangyin and others suppressed the various rifts and quelled the second wave of Yin-Yang energy disturbance.
Now Wei Xi had no choice but to take this so-called seven-character fortune slip seriously, and his gaze toward the city wall of Hulu Town became profound.
But this didn't stop Wei Xi from stuffing the seven-character slip back into Yu Jin's hand, since the slip was hastily made and quite sharp.
“Fellow Daoist Wei, if even this city wall is so strange, then Hulu Town is probably not simple.”
Wei Xi only half-heartedly accepted Yu Jin's words—anything related to the boundary between Yin and Yang, or rather, to the Heavenly Dao, was bound to be sinister. Did they think that just because the gourd was sinister, they wouldn't give it a try? That was utterly delusional!
Besides, Wei Xi has seen plenty of weird stuff. Once he figured out what kind of weird method it was, he would only suffer some fright and physical pain.
"If the city walls swallowed up corpses, what were the city gates for?"
Yu Jin was clearly taken aback, holding the skewer at a loss for what to do. After a moment, he managed to squeeze out a barely audible "Huh?"
Wei Xi muttered about the city walls and gates, but his eyes kept glancing at the strange people in plain clothes standing on the city walls.
"If the city walls devour corpses, what are the city gates for? I haven't seen anyone come out of Calabash Town during the day!"
The pipa strings snapped as the skull played, and the bell's sound chilled the bones.
These words struck Yu Jin like a thunderbolt.
"Fellow Daoist Wei, do you mean there will be more things coming out of Calabash Town?"
Wei Xi remained silent, firstly because she genuinely knew very little, and secondly because she had swaggered past the city gate during the day.
Even a few scattered "people" entered Hulu Town.
Yu Jin was a smart man, and whispered, "Should we still go into Calabash Town later?"
Wei Xi glanced at the embers trapped among the child's remains and said indifferently, "That depends on you."
Yu Jin naturally knew what Wei Xi was talking about, but the two of them checked him several times in a secluded place and found no change in him.
“It seems those corpse collectors weren’t anything special,” Yu Jin said with a pout. “They wasted all their effort.”
Wei Xi pondered for a moment before replying, "The corpse collectors know that there are corpses locked up in the town, while the 'people' inside the town believe that there are ghosts outside. The only ones who can enter and leave Hulu Town are probably us, the variables."
"And perhaps those few standing up there too."
