Chapter 79 [A few words about this book before it goes on sale]
It will be on the shelves at 12 o'clock tonight, and there is still more than an hour left.
This book originated from a story idea I had thought of before, but I actually struggled with it for a long time before I started writing because... review.
It's not about the censorship of online novels. You can write urban fantasy, urban cultivation, and other online novels, such as Feilong's "The Corpse Retriever" next door.
The one who persuaded me not to write this book was my copyright partner. My partner repeatedly advised me not to write this book and to change the story.
Because, in the context of an urban worldview, surreal themes can only be written about supernatural powers and science fiction. (For example, the previous book "Steady, Don't Go Wandering" is considered supernatural and soft science fiction)
But if you write about urban cultivation or urban fantasy... then it has absolutely no chance of being adapted into a film or TV series, and the animation won't sell either.
Because of censorship issues, it is impossible to buy the copyright for urban fantasy and urban cultivation themes in animation and film and television - supernatural powers can still be skirted and made under the name of soft science fiction.
If the cultivation of immortals is placed in a modern city, the path to IP is completely blocked. Within the current film and television and animation review framework, things like gods and ghosts are absolutely not allowed to appear in the city.
But... I was willful again.
It’s not impossible to write another story, but... this is the only story I feel comfortable writing.
In fact, there is a more profitable project, an urban science fiction theme, and the client approached me to discuss it last year. They are willing to cover the copyright, which means that the copyright is pre-sold before writing - but I looked at the framework, didn't like it, and felt that I didn't have a feeling for it, so I rejected it.
Perhaps, even in my forties, I am still such a willful guy.
I just wanted to write about a little rascal who was forced to become a charlatan after leaving a big company.
I just want to write a little clip with the flavor of corn grits.
I just wanted to write about an unlucky girl who is as timid as a rabbit but lovable.
I just wanted to write about a cynical and weird old lady.
I just want to write a novel about a young mother...
...and there are more interesting characters waiting to appear...
·
Frankly speaking, this book has not performed as well as the previous one so far, and I know the reason very well - the previous book was discontinued for too long in the later stage.
It hurt the trust of many readers.
So now the results of this book are much worse than the previous one, and I am willing to accept it. There must be a cause for every effect.
But I really wrote this story very seriously and put a lot of thought into it.
Before writing this book, I summarized my previous experiences, so the framework of this book will not be too big, and I no longer want to fall into that kind of logical trap that forces me into a corner and I can't get out.
The framework is not complicated, so it should minimize the possibility of stuck.
The scope is not large, so it shouldn't take long to write. My own estimate is that it will be between 2 and 2.5 million words, which is over a million words less than the previous book.
·
Let me share some of the feedback readers have received on this book so far.
Chen Yan is similar to Chen Xiaogou from the previous book... In terms of being cunning, the two characters are similar in this respect.
In addition, both characters have the surname Chen, and the previous book ends and this book begins in succession, so some readers always feel that they cannot get rid of the impression of the previous book.
In fact, if you read on, you will find that the characters are quite different.
The biggest difference is that Chen Yan is actually more indifferent in character than Chen Xiaogou in the previous book.
Chen Xiaogou is the type who longs for warmth and affection. Chen Yan, on the other hand, is very cold at heart... He doesn't want any warmth or affection. The old lady is his only concern in this world. Apart from the old lady, he is actually a closed-minded person.
Because people who have been hurt are different.
A person who has no parents and grows up under the care of his grandmother will be discriminated against by the surrounding environment and the world from childhood to adulthood.
Therefore, he is cold inside and looks at the world with indifference.
So far, no one among the characters that have appeared has entered his heart.
Gu Xiaoniang didn’t have that. It was a cooperation based on interests. Chen Yan helped Gu Xiaoniang complete the ghost marriage, and Gu Xiaoniang served as his thigh.
Even if it was Lu Sisi, Chen Yan didn't really have feelings for this girl. It was just the natural attraction of a young man to a beautiful woman of the opposite sex.
So, when the two of them were dating in the commercial street of Qixia Temple, Lu Sisi looked at Chen Yan with stars in her eyes, and Chen Yan...
His eyes were not on Lu Sisi.
It's like a young man who doesn't understand feelings, who just happens to get close to a girl due to the natural attraction.
Love... This thing, for Chen Yan, has not yet sprouted.
The old lady taught him a lot, about how to behave, etc. But the only thing she couldn't teach him was [emotions].
In addition, Chen Yan showed that he was more mature and more determined than his peers.
This is actually a characteristic that only a person who has grown up without a father or a mother and has suffered bullying and discrimination for many years will have.
In this respect, Chen Xiaogou in the previous book is different.
Chen Xiaogou has the high-spirited and effortless spirit of a top boss.
Chen Yan is an indifferent young man who had a little adventure. With curiosity and caution, he wanted to make a way for himself bit by bit.
·
Gu Xiaoniang is not Lu Xixi, and Lu Sisi is not Sun Keke. Don't worry about this. I am quite skilled in writing characters.
So far, the world view of this book has not been fully revealed, and only a corner of the scroll of the domain has been revealed.
Let me tell you the story!
