Chapter 307 Can't Make It Through Tonight

Chapter 307 Can't Make It Through Tonight

Inside the bamboo house in the bamboo forest.

The room had been tidied up a bit, but the damaged items couldn't be restored. Two wooden planks were laid out as a bed, and Grandpa Tao and Han Ying each lay down on one.

Grandma Chen, her eyes red, paced back and forth between the two beds. She glanced at Han Ying one moment, then at Grandpa Tao the next.

"Grandma..." Han Ying, lying on the bed, opened her eyes and raised her hands to rub her sleepy eyes.

He accidentally touched his swollen cheek, and the pain made him gasp.

Grandma Chen quickly went to her grandson's bedside, grabbed his hands and said, "Silly child, you have a wound on your face, you can't touch it."

Grandma Chen couldn't be happy when her grandson woke up. Meanwhile, Grandpa Tao, lying on the other bed, remained unconscious; Grandma Chen, lacking medical knowledge, couldn't do anything.

She could only hope that it would get dark soon, so that she could go find Doctor Wei to treat Tao Lao and Han Ying's injuries.

Half-asleep, Han Ying suddenly remembered what had happened. The man had kicked and punched Grandpa Tao, and Grandpa Tao had held him tightly, protecting him.

He was still kicked, it hurt a lot, and then he knew nothing more. Thinking about this, Han Ying shuddered.

"Grandpa Tao, don't kick Grandpa Tao, don't kick Grandpa Tao..." Han Ying murmured, struggling to get up, but the pain all over his body made him fall back down several times.

Unexpectedly, her grandson suddenly started to thrash around on the bed. Grandma Chen was taken aback at first, then pressed down on his little shoulders, "Han Ying, sweetie, you're injured, don't move, you can't move."

"Grandpa Tao, he kicked Grandpa Tao..." Han Ying looked at her grandmother with red eyes and cried out excitedly, "Grandma, please save Grandpa Tao, he kicked Grandpa Tao..."

"Han Ying, be good, be good, don't move, you can't move." Grandma Chen bent down and hugged her grandson, comforting him with a choked voice.

She knew her grandson was terrified.

She was also terrified. Every time she had been dragged out and paraded in public before, kneeling there without any dignity, being insulted and pelted with stones, she had never been as afraid as she was today.

Some villagers went to her workplace, saying that the old Party Secretary had called her back. She went into the bamboo house and saw that it was in a mess, with Old Tao lying lifelessly on the ground.

I felt everything go black and I almost fainted.

It was a woman from the village named Hehua who caught her, preventing her from fainting. The woman named Hehua advised her to think positively and helped her to the bedside to see Hanying.

Seeing Han Ying lying lifeless on the bed like Old Tao, she felt as if her world had collapsed. After a dizzying sensation, she also fainted completely.

When she woke up again, Old Tao had already been carried to bed, and a blanket covered his bleeding legs.

The old Party Secretary looked grim as he directed several women from the village to help tidy up the house. When they saw her awake, everyone looked at her with varying degrees of sympathy.

The woman named Lotus told her that Old Tao was seriously injured and probably wouldn't make it through the night. Her grandson's injuries were less severe, and she should take good care of him.

Before leaving, Hehua quietly told her to ask Wei Jingyuan to come and see her grandson after dark. She thanked Hehua gratefully, and also thanked the old Party Secretary and everyone else.

After everyone left, she stood alone in the room, filled with despair.

Grandma Chen's reassurance worked; Han Ying stopped struggling and shouting. He said, "Grandma, please help me sit up. I want to see Grandpa Tao."

Grandma Chen stiffened and slowly released Han Ying's small body. She glanced back at Grandpa Tao and said softly, "Han Ying, be good. You're injured, you can't sit."

"Grandma will help you lie on your side. Can you lie on your side and look at Grandpa Tao?"

"Okay." Han Ying nodded obediently. "If I hurt you, you have to tell Grandma." Grandma Chen instructed Han Ying, and only after seeing Han Ying nod again did she turn Han Ying's small body onto her side.

Most of the blankets were piled up behind Han Ying for support, and then the corners of the blankets were tucked in.

"Grandma, why isn't Grandpa Tao making a sound?" Han Ying lay on her side on the bed, her eyes fixed on Grandpa Tao.

Her slightly swollen face was full of worry.

Upon hearing her grandson's question, Grandma Chen's tears, which she had been holding back for so long, began to fall again. Looking at Grandpa Tao lying there motionless, her tears flowed even more rapidly.

Seeing her grandmother's tears, Han Ying immediately panicked, "Grandma, don't cry, don't cry, Han Ying isn't in pain. Grandpa Tao will get better too, everyone will be alright."

Han Ying's words did not comfort Grandma Chen at all; instead, they reminded her of what Aunt Hehua had said. She said that Old Tao was seriously injured and probably wouldn't make it through the night.

He won't make it through the night!

"Han Ying is right, everyone will be alright." A clear and gentle voice rang out.

Grandma Chen and Han Ying both looked toward the source of the sound, and two people flashed in through the doorway. They really flashed in, because in the blink of an eye, the two were inside.

Grandma Chen wondered if she was seeing things.

"Sister, big brother," Han Ying greeted happily, her swollen little face looking quite comical.

Wei Jingyuan and Tao Qiuyi were both sharp-eyed and noticed Han Ying's swollen face at a glance. Their eyes darkened, and in perfect unison, they casually tossed the things they were holding onto the ground.

Walking quickly to the bedside, Wei Jingyuan grabbed Grandpa Tao's wrist to take his pulse. Tao Qiuyi then took out a pill and put it directly into Grandpa Tao's mouth.

The pills she made melted in the mouth, so there was no need to help the patients swallow them.

Without disturbing Wei Jingyuan as he took Grandpa Tao's pulse, Tao Qiuyi turned to look at Grandma Chen and Han Ying. She then took out two more pills, one for Grandma Chen and one for Han Ying.

Neither Grandma Chen nor Han Ying accepted the pills, and they both said in unison that they were fine and that the pills should be given to Grandpa Tao.

Tao Qiuyi said, "These are life-saving pills; taking them will greatly benefit your health."

Upon hearing that the pills were meant to save lives, Grandma Chen and Han Ying were even more reluctant to accept them.

"Leave it for your grandpa... Old Tao to eat. He's badly injured. I'm fine, I don't need to eat." After saying that, Grandma Chen glanced at Han Ying, "Han Ying isn't badly injured, she doesn't need to eat either."

Han Ying nodded in agreement, "Grandma is right, my injury isn't serious, I don't need to eat."

Seeing that the grandmother and granddaughter were still refusing, Tao Qiuyi sighed inwardly and deliberately put on a stern face. Her tone also became a bit harsher, "I have plenty of pills, you can eat them if I give them to you."

Grandma Chen didn't know what to do.

Having eaten a lot of delicious food that her older sister had sent over these days, Han Ying obediently reached out and took the pills, putting them in her mouth and eating them.

Then, picking up another pill, Han Ying said to Grandma Chen, "Grandma, eat it. My sister gave it to us, so we'll eat it. My sister is a good person; she wouldn't harm us."

"Grandma knows, of course, that my sister is a good person, and that she wouldn't harm us." Grandma Chen raised her hand to pat Han Ying's head, then turned to look at Tao Qiuyi. "Thank you."

After thanking her grandson, Grandma Chen took the pills from his hand and swallowed them without hesitation. The pills melted in her mouth, like a refreshing spring flowing into her stomach.
