Chapter 263 The Trick of Turning the Tables
Looking at Li Hongying, who was sitting on the ground throwing a tantrum, trembling with anger after being provoked by Tao Qiuyi's few words, Wei Jingyuan felt his anger, which had just dissipated, begin to gather in his chest again.

In the past two years, he has witnessed firsthand the fickleness of human relationships and how even family members can turn against each other.

His relatives, who used to greet him with smiles, have all become hateful. They live in his house, killed his parents, and abuse his younger siblings.

Wei Jingyuan looked up at Li Zi and Xiao Huai, who were standing by the table.

Neither Pear nor Little Locust noticed that their older brother was watching them, because they were watching their grandmother perform a shrewish cursing routine.

Qiu Si had no memories of the past and had lived alone in the mountains for more than three years. When she first saw someone like Li Hongying, her eyes were filled with more curiosity than inquiry.

Shifting her sitting position, Li Hongying pointed at Tao Qiuyi. "Stop pretending to be innocent. You're the one who pushed me. You pushed me, that's why I fell."

Li Hongying fell on her own, yet she insisted that Tao Qiuyi pushed her. Tao Qiuyi frowned in thought; Li Hongying was definitely not just making things up, there must be some ulterior motive behind it.

“We both know the truth,” Tao Qiuyi said. “Everyone in this room saw clearly how you fell.”

“Don’t give me that nonsense, you were the one who pushed me,” Li Hongying insisted.

Before she came, her boss told her not to do anything else. Just scold Wei Jingyuan for being unfilial and Tao Qiuyi for bullying her, an elder.

It would be best to provoke Wei Jingyuan and Tao Qiuyi, so that if either of them dared to lay a hand on her, they would immediately rush into the house to prove that Wei Jingyuan was unfilial and that Tao Qiuyi was bullying their elders.

Once it's confirmed that Wei Jingyuan is unfilial and Tao Qiuyi bullies her elders, even a single word from anyone in the village could be enough to condemn Wei Jingyuan and Tao Qiuyi to death.

Gossip can be a powerful force, and Wei Jingyuan and Tao Qiuyi, for the sake of their reputation and to avoid being driven out of the village, decided to take action.

There's no other way but to compromise with her, so that she can control Wei Jingyuan and Tao Qiuyi just like she controlled the second son and his wife.

Pushing Wei Jingyuan aside, Tao Qiuyi walked up to Li Hongying. Bending down to look her over, she said, "Li Hongying, you're quite adept at playing the 'blame-shifting' trick."

"I don't know what you're talking about." Li Hongying turned her face away, her anger directed at Wei Jingyuan. "Wei Jingyuan, I'm your grandmother, your own grandmother, and you just watch me sit on the ground like this?"

Despite the scolding, Li Hongying showed no intention of getting up.

"Then what do you want?" Wei Jingyuan asked in a deep voice, looking down at Li Hongying with a cold gaze devoid of any warmth.

Li Hongying felt a pang of guilt for no reason, but she quickly regained her composure. "What do you mean, 'what do I want'? You unfilial son, you heartless, filthy wretch... Waaaaah..."

Before she could finish her curse, her chin was grabbed and her mouth was stuffed with a clump of grass. Li Hongying could only whimper, her teeth biting into the grass, her mouth filled with bitterness.

What kind of grass did Tao Qiuyi stuff into her mouth? It was so bitter, it was killing her.

"Your breath smells so bad, how long has it been since you brushed your teeth?" Releasing Li Hongying's chin, Tao Qiuyi straightened up and took out a tissue from her cotton coat pocket to wipe her hands.

"This herb I have can clean teeth and eliminate bad breath, you don't need to thank me."

The person who was cursing was silenced, and finally, there was quiet.

But Tao Qiuyi knew this wasn't over yet. She had already dealt with Li Hongying and the others, so they didn't dare to provoke her easily.

Since they've come, they must have some kind of backing. Tao Qiuyi looked at the three boys standing by the table, "Xiao Huai, take Li Zi and Qiu Si to the next room to play for a while."

"Your older brother and I have some troublesome things to deal with. Remember to lock the door and don't come out to check no matter what noise you hear."

Although the three boys were no longer young and could distinguish right from wrong, Tao Qiuyi still didn't want them to face these upsetting matters, so she sent them away. She didn't know how long she could protect them, but she would protect them as much as she could.

Three teenagers walked towards Tao Qiuyi and stopped in front of her.

Xiao Huai remained as composed as ever; there was worry in his eyes, but he said nothing.

“Sister-in-law, I still…” Before Pear could finish speaking, Tao Qiuyi interrupted her, “Good girl, these things are not for you to get involved in. Go play in the next room with Xiao Huai.”

“Okay, I’ll listen to my sister-in-law.” Pear nodded, biting her lip.

"Go on, okay?" Tao Qiuyi patted her shoulder.

Qiu Si took two more steps towards Tao Qiuyi, stopping a step away from her. She glanced at Li Hongying sitting on the ground, her brows furrowing even more.

"Sister, this old woman looks very intimidating. Can you...can you really handle her?" Qiu Si's eyes were full of worry, her brows furrowed so tightly they could trap a mosquito.

He was worried that his sister would be taken advantage of.

"Don't worry, what demons and monsters, what beautiful women in disguise, your sister has never seen them." Tao Qiuyi turned to Wei Jingyuan and pointed. "Besides, I still have your brother Wei, he will protect me."

Tao Qiuyi's intention was to reassure Qiu Si, but Qiu Si took her words seriously. She even said to Wei Jingyuan solemnly, "Brother Wei, please be sure to protect my sister."

"I will." Wei Jingyuan solemnly promised. Even if Qiu Si didn't say anything, he would protect Qiu Qiu.

The man's solemn expression and the boy's serious demeanor made Tao Qiuyi suddenly want to laugh.

Satisfied with the answer she wanted, Tao Qiusi went to the next room with Xiao Huai and Li Zi.

Hearing the door next door close and lock, Tao Qiuyi turned to look at Wei Jingyuan. She jokingly asked, "Tell me, are you protecting me, or am I protecting you?"

"You've always been the one protecting me. From now on, it's my turn to protect you, okay?" As he said this, Wei Jingyuan's deep eyes were locked on Tao Qiuyi's shimmering eyes.

Why is he suddenly saying such cheesy things? Tao Qiuyi blinked, then smiled with her eyes crinkling, "Okay."

Seeing her alluring appearance, Wei Jingyuan's hands, which were hanging at his sides, twitched. Then he said something seemingly out of the blue, "Let's get up early tomorrow."

Tao Qiuyi hadn't even figured out what he meant when she was interrupted by Li Hongying's angry shouts.

"Wei Jingyuan, you ungrateful wretch! My son raised you for nothing. You gave me so much wild boar meat, but you didn't even send me a single piece."

"Do you still care about me, your grandmother?"

"No," Wei Jingyuan replied seriously.

Tao Qiuyi burst out laughing; that's how powerful a straight man's thoughts are.

Wei Jingyuan didn't know what she was laughing at, but seeing her sway slightly from laughing, he was worried she would fall, so he quickly reached out and put his arm around her waist, pulling her into his embrace.

Li Hongying was instantly dumbfounded, realizing that Tao Qiuyi was mocking her. Seeing Wei Jingyuan hugging Tao Qiuyi again, she thought, "Shameless scumbags, you're so immoral."

“In the past, we would have definitely sent you to be drowned in pig cages or overturned in ponds.”

"Drown in a pig cage, drowned in a pond." Tao Qiuyi smiled sarcastically. "The higher-ups are promoting new ideas every day, but you're still living in the old society. I'm going to report you."
