Chapter 53 Estrangement
Shuanzi covered his face, tears welling in his eyes, his lips trembling, and dared not make a sound.

Sanhu picked up his chopsticks and buried his head in his food, but his legs, which were under the table, were shaking violently.

The last person was a short, fat man with a round belly. He remained calm and muttered, "Since it's my last meal, I might as well eat more."

Sanhu burst into tears, choking on his food. He coughed violently, spraying rice and chewed meat bits all over the face of the short, fat man opposite him!

Xie Da smashed the bowl and cursed, "What a coward! You were all scrambling to get this job back then, what kind of person are you to back down halfway? You're a wimp!"

Shuanzi sobbed incessantly, “But they didn’t say we’d risk our lives! I’m not afraid of being tortured or beaten, but being beheaded is a different story. I’m not even married yet, and my mother is waiting to hold her grandson!”

"That's right, no matter how much the reward is, it's not as important as life!" Sanhu mumbled, wiping his mouth haphazardly.

Xie Da was exasperated and gritted his teeth, saying, "Then think about your families! If it really comes to the point of beheading, do you want to die alone, or take your whole family with you?"

Everyone gradually fell silent.

After a brief period of panic, the next step is to weigh the pros and cons.

In the end, no one mentioned it again. Led by the short, fat man, everyone started eating, as if it were their last meal on earth, eating earnestly and with relish.

Having overheard this, Officer Luo quietly left cell number four and returned to the interrogation room, where he truthfully relayed the conversation between the four men to Mu Qingcheng and Liu Heng.

"Coroner Mu was right after all. They were determined to die for their families." Liu Heng's face was grim, and wave after wave of frustration made him extremely depressed.

Mu Qingcheng chuckled, "Now, let's see how Officer Liu performs."

Liu Heng stretched his arm. "Coroner Mu, please make yourself at home!"

There is a hidden door in the back wall of the interrogation room. You can't see inside from the outside, but it's not soundproof. You can hear everything that happens outside clearly from inside.

Mu Qingcheng entered through the hidden door. Liu Heng gave him a wink, "Xiao Luo, bring their leader Xie Da over. To catch the thief, catch the king first; making an example of him is the right thing to do!"

Constable Luo immediately summoned his men, and they marched in a large group toward cell number five.

"Xie Da, come out and stand trial!"

"Everyone else, squat down against the wall!"

Officer Luo opened the door, grabbed Xie Da, and tied his hands behind his back!

Xie Da was shoved out of the cell. He desperately turned his head to look at the other three and mouthed two words: "Hold on!"

The three of them crouched down, huddled together, and gritted their teeth, barely managing to hold back their tears.

Xie Da was dragged into the interrogation room and tied to a chair. He struggled and resisted instinctively, shouting, "I don't know anything! If you're so capable, just kill me!"

Liu Heng took off his smelly socks and shoved them into Xie Da's mouth without any hesitation!

Xie Da made incoherent "woo-woo" noises, and soon his face turned red.

Then, Liu Heng sat down in the chair, leisurely picked up the teacup, and slowly sipped the tea.

Constable Luo swung his long whip and lashed it hard on the ground. The loud cracking sound made the entire Southern Prison seem like it was about to collapse!
Xie Da was dumbfounded!

But he quickly realized Liu Heng's purpose, because another constable deliberately made a painful cry. As the whip hit the ground, the cry gradually changed from a high-pitched sound to a groan, and finally slowly disappeared.

Xie Da struggled desperately, but was held firmly down and could not move!
