Chapter 6 He's doing fine
Nanxu went swimming and learned to cook with Lu Zhiyan in the afternoon. She forgot to take her phone when she went to the supermarket, and as soon as she picked it up, she saw a flood of news about Shu Youli.

"Have you arrived home safely?"

When did you meet Lu Zhiyan?

Why was it him who picked you up yesterday?

What is your relationship with him?

"Reply to my message, Nanxu?" After a long time, he sent another message.

"Nanxu, are you angry? I know I shouldn't care so much, I'm just asking you."

There were a few more phone calls in between, but the timing was very inconvenient, coinciding with the time they were going to the supermarket.

Nan Xu glanced at Lu Zhiyan, who was putting food into the refrigerator, and replied on her phone.

"We've only known each other for a short time, we're friends, and I'll introduce you to each other later. I'm not angry, and I haven't touched my phone all afternoon."

Upon seeing the message from Nan Xu, Shu Youli quickly replied, "I'm sorry, Nan Xu. I was just too concerned about you."

Nan Xu replied with "It's nothing," and then didn't send any more messages.

Lu Zhiyan glanced at it and continued arranging the items.

After spending two days together, Nanxu had a fairly good impression of Lu Zhiyan. He could cook and was quite family-oriented.

On Sunday, Lu Zhiyan wanted to go on a date with Nan Xu to get to know each other better. However, he had work to do, and Lin Jingshu had also invited Nan Xu to go shopping.

Lu Zhiyan drove Nan Xu to the mall and thoughtfully opened the car door for her. He only returned to the company after arranging everything.

Lin Jingshu sat in the second-floor coffee shop by the window, taking in everything. A faint smile played on her lips.

Nan Xu looked at the location Lin Jingshu had posted and found her easily.

On the table, Lin Jingshu had already ordered the coffee that Nan Xu often drank.

"How have you felt about spending these two days together?" Lin Jingshu asked tentatively.

Nan Xu smiled slightly and said, "It's fine."

"Pretty good?" Lin Jingshu understood Nan Xu; "pretty good" meant "very good."

Only two days have passed, and she can still utter this word, which shows that Lu Zhiyan is really quite good.

“The Lu family is not like ordinary families. Do his parents know about this?” Lin Jingshu was still worried about Nanxu.

Her marriage to Nan Shan was considered a step down, so the Nan family naturally wouldn't dare to mistreat her. But if Nan Xu married Lu Zhiyan, it would be a step up. Who knows what kind of treatment they might give her?

Lin Jingshu only has one daughter, so naturally she wants her to live a happy and fulfilling life.

Nanxu stirred her coffee without saying a word.

She's not young anymore; she's well aware of the hardships of life in a wealthy family.

She attended a prestigious private high school where many couples were estranged and kept mistresses.

It would be a lie to say there was no trouble.

“You don’t have to marry Lu Zhiyan; the Nan family’s affairs have nothing to do with us. But if you think he’s a good match, I have nothing to say.”

Nan Xu looked out the window and after a long while spoke, "It'll last for a month. I'll think about it."

A silence fell over the place.

Lin Jingshu thought for a long time before finally speaking, "A Ning, what do you think about my divorce from your father?" She was very nervous, her fingers gripping the stirring spoon.

Nan Xu recovered her composure and said, "I don't really want to."

Before Lin Jingshu could say anything more, Nan Xu interrupted her, "You two never really had much affection for each other, so divorce was just a matter of time anyway."

“I’m not a child anymore, you don’t need to care too much about my feelings. As long as you’re happy.” After a while, she added, “He’s not a good father.”

She still minded that her father had always favored Nan Yu since childhood. Compared to Nan Yu, Nan Shan was more like her father than Nan Xu.

Lin Jingshu was well aware of Nanshan's favoritism. Nanxu and Nanshan's relationship had always been lukewarm. In contrast, Nanyu and Nanshan were more like a biological father and son.

Nanshan would personally tutor Nanyu in his studies and interpersonal skills, and at a young age, he took over the company. Nanxu had none of these qualities.

When Lu Zhiyan returned to the company, he also handled projects related to the Nan family and Feng Hua.

Nan Xu hasn't agreed to marry him yet, so logically he shouldn't have to worry about the Nan family's affairs.

But he doesn't like the feeling of losing control.

After a busy afternoon, Lu Zhiyan took off his glasses and pinched his nose, which had become red from being pressed against them. He glanced at the time.

It's already 6:30. The office lights are off, relying entirely on the dim twilight filtering through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Nan Xu and Lin Jingshu had just finished eating and were about to ask Lu Zhiyan when his call came in. It was getting late.

"Is it over with Auntie?" Lu Zhiyan leaned back in his chair, his voice slightly hoarse.

Nan Xu was helping Lin Jingshu open the car door. "Just finished. Are you working overtime today?"

Lin Jingshu looked in the direction of the sound, her eyes filled with ambiguity.

Nanxu turned her face away shyly.

"I'm not working overtime. I'll come pick you up now, in about twenty minutes. You can find a coffee shop to sit in for a while." With that, he took his car keys and went downstairs.

"Have you eaten? Do you want me to pack something for you?" As she spoke, she looked towards the street behind her. Apart from some roadside snacks and barbecue stalls, there were only dessert shops.

There are other things in the mall, but it's rush hour now, so it'll take at least twenty minutes longer than usual. The food won't taste as good if we take it home.

After thinking for a moment, Nan Xu said, "The food won't taste good if you take it home from the Western restaurant here."

Lu Zhiyan paused on the elevator button, and Nan Xu naturally uttered these ordinary words.

It felt like they were a couple who had been dating for a long time.

"Is there anything else? I'm not picky."

He was happy that Nan Xu thought of him. As for what to eat, he wasn't a picky eater to begin with.

Do you eat barbecue snacks?

"Anything is fine, desserts are okay too." Lu Zhiyan doesn't like sweets, but Nan Xu does.

It will take at least forty minutes to get home, so I can eat a small cake while I'm on the bus.

"Okay, I got it, bye." Nan Xu hung up the phone and noticed Lin Jingshu looking at her.

Nan Xu's cheeks flushed slightly. "Mom, why are you looking at me like that?"

Lin Jingshu chuckled, "You still need to think about it? In my opinion, in another month, you can just take your household registration book and go find him to get married."

She noticed Lu Zhiyan's thoughtfulness. She also noticed Nan Xu's behavior.

If the two of them continue like this, marriage is only a matter of time.

Nan Xu urged Lin Jingshu to leave, "Mom, stop talking nonsense, let's go home."

Lin Jingshu tucked the stray hairs behind Nan Xu's ear, her eyes filled with tenderness.

"Okay, I'm going now. Call me if you need anything." He then got into his car and drove away.

On her way home, Lin Jingshu touched the watch on her wrist.

Tears slipped unintentionally from the corner of her eye, but Lin Jingshu quickly wiped them away.

Twenty minutes later, Lu Zhiyan's car stopped in front of Nan Xu.

Nan Xu had just put her things in the back seat when Lu Zhiyan pulled over the seatbelt and fastened it for her. Looking at Lu Zhiyan's profile so close to hers, Nan Xu's face flushed. She squeezed the strap of her bag on her lap.

Lu Zhiyan asked with slight anxiety, "What's wrong? Your face is so red. Are you feeling unwell?"

"No, no," Nan Xu said haltingly, then turned her head to the other side.

Lu Zhiyan withdrew his hand and chuckled softly. Nan Xu glared at Lu Zhiyan, who immediately fell silent.
