Chapter 282 Dividing the Melon
Qin He felt suffocated and uneasy.

She had always wanted to become the pride of the Marquis's mansion. Apart from the few legitimate daughters who had married, Qin He didn't think anyone in the entire mansion could compete with her for the title of pride. No one was qualified. But now, Qin He felt a sense of crisis.

Qin He looked listless, and Qin Yan asked her, "Sister Qin He, what's wrong?"

Qin He pressed her head: "I feel a little dizzy."

“You’ve just recovered from your injury, and the sun in this desolate place is too strong.” Qin Yan didn’t doubt Qin He’s lie at all: “Why don’t you go back? People with weak bodies can’t withstand the fatigue.”

Qin He hesitated, and Qin Yan, upon learning that Qin He was dizzy, also advised her to go back.

Qin He simply said, "I'll go with everyone."

A bountiful harvest is a big deal, and many people are watching. Qin He didn't want to leave early. It's said that a bountiful harvest brings good luck, and Qin He believed in these things. She wouldn't be polite about celebrating the Marquis's bountiful harvest, as the Marquis's family had benefited greatly from her presence.

She earned so much money for the Marquis's mansion; she deserves whatever she receives.

Marquis Qin Yan looked around the farmland. He picked the melons for his own consumption, and there was one left for the Duke of Su's mansion. Marquis Qin Yan discussed with Qin Yan, "Let your maternal grandparents pick the melons now. There aren't many, and it will save you from having to come back another day."

Qin Yan asked Prince Su for his opinion, and Prince Su said, "Why don't we pick them?"

Everyone picked all the melons from their melon patches, but no one felt comfortable leaving a patch of unpicked melons.

Qin Tang and Qin Lang came over to help. With many people, they worked quickly and soon all the melons were picked. There was a cartload of melons, which was quite a lot. The young prince came over and looked on with envy. Eunuch Fu was also very eager to buy some. However, all the remaining melons had already been taken, and Eunuch Fu couldn't buy any more even if he wanted to.

Qin He didn't see the young master of the Su family give her any crystals. Since the eldest son's family was able to give them to the Duke of Su's mansion, they probably wouldn't let her leave empty-handed. The eldest son's family benefited from her and opened a shop together, so they should at least give her a basket of spirit melons.

Qin He waited; she wouldn't ask for it, because asking would make it seem like she was so eager for it.

Would Qin He lack anything good? Of course not.

Qin Bi said to Lin Yao and Guard Yan, "After we go back, I will give you two baskets of cracked melons, two baskets of good melons. You should each get two or three melons. If you need more, ask the young master for more."

The staff and guards were taken aback, then overjoyed: "Thank you for the reward, Princess Consort."

Qin Bi was a first-time Crown Prince's wife and knew nothing about it. Rong Yang didn't stop her. Qin Bi guessed that the reward should be acceptable. Don't underestimate Rong Yang because of her young age. She knew a lot. Qin Bi was worried that rewarding her with a cracked watermelon from an ordinary watermelon was inappropriate.

The staff and guards wouldn't mind whether the watermelon was ordinary or cracked. It was grown in their own palace, and the cracked ones were the ones they hadn't properly moved. They would eat them all the same. Besides, cracked watermelons weren't hard to sell.

The Crown Princess gave them melons as a reward, and everyone was overjoyed.

The melons were harvested by the third branch of the family, and they didn't intend to share them with anyone. They planned to distribute them to relatives and friends after returning to the Marquis's residence. There was no rush. Qin Tan had many good colleagues and friends, and he had plans for that.

The four families also have plans, such as the Jiang family and the Lin family, to divide the melons and so on, which will be discussed when they return.

The Rong family harvested the melons together, so no one had to share them. Jiang Xu left a small plot of melons for his maternal grandparents, and they were all picking them now. They distributed the melons to his maternal grandparents in the wilderness to save them from having too much trouble when they returned to the Jiang residence.

Qin He went over to the main house, and Qin Yan, seeing that the melons had all been taken away, said, "Let's go back."

Activate the teleportation array and everyone leaves the wilderness.

Qin Bi and Rong Yang returned to the Rong Prince's Mansion. Today was a bountiful day, and there were still many things to do in the mansion. Although Qin Bi didn't need to worry about them, she did need to take care of the young Rong Yang. The Rong Prince had been teaching Rong Yang how to be a young prince since he was very young.

Prince Rong directed his men to move the watermelons to the storeroom, and while they were at it, he distributed the watermelons that Qin Bi had promised to his staff and guards, giving each of them two or three ordinary watermelons. Rong Yang then gave the Prince's Mansion two baskets of ordinary watermelons.

This delighted the concubines and the Rong king, who also happily embraced Rong Yang.

The little dumpling Rong Chi babbled and stretched out his tiny hands. Rong Shizi pretended not to see it, busy holding the little dumpling. Qin Bi gave him a small watermelon, and the child laughed heartily, forgetting everything else.

At the Rongwang Mansion, Qin Bi was in charge of distributing the melons, and the Qin Yanhou Mansion was also bustling with activity. Jiang Shi whispered to Qin Tang, "How many melons should we give Qin Han?"

Qin Tang said, "Three or five melons will suffice."

Jiang instructed her maids to move two cracked melons. Considering that there were other households in the Jiang family, and to prevent Qin Han from being looked down upon, she also moved two good melons. Lin whispered to Jiang to discuss this.

"Give me three," Jiang said. "Our two households together have seven melons, that's quite a lot."

That's quite a lot. The Lin family gave us two cracked melons and one good melon.

After Qin Han's family finished eating, it was already dark, and they were preparing to leave when Jiang said, "Take the melon."

When Qin Han saw the melons in the basket, her face fell; there wasn't a single spirit melon.

"Don't you have any spirit melons?" Qin Han asked, opening her mouth to ask.

Jiang's smile vanished, and Qin Di said, "Your two elder brothers are of use."

Qin Han lowered her head and remained silent. Her usefulness was merely paving the way for her two brothers; was she an outsider? Why couldn't they give her a spirit melon? Qin Han felt a chill in her heart, and an indescribable tightness in her chest.

Seeing the awkward atmosphere, Jiang Mo was at a loss for what to do.

Qin Tang spoke up: "Give her a spirit melon."

Jiang was about to get the spirit melon when Qin Xun stopped her and said to Lin, "Go and get a spirit melon from our courtyard."

The harmonious relationship between the brothers Qin Tang and Qin Xun made Qin Han seem somewhat immature. Qin Han accepted the spirit melon brought by Madam Lin and walked away quickly, while Jiang Mo exchanged pleasantries with everyone.

Qin Han left unhappily. On the main branch of the family, Qin Yan gave Qin He two ordinary watermelons. Qin He was furious. Was she only worth two ordinary watermelons? That was such an insult.

What she wants is the Spirit Melon, the Spirit Melon!!!

The eldest branch of the family was to send a spirit melon, not to Qin He, but to the second branch. Whether or not Cui Shi was willing to give it to Qin He, the eldest branch didn't care, and sent two ordinary watermelons to the fifth branch.

Qin He left without having dinner, and she didn't even smile when she left.

The third house was the liveliest. Qin Tan and his wife discussed with Qin Lang that they would give Qin Lang's maternal grandparents two baskets of ordinary watermelons and two spirit watermelons. Qin Lang hesitated for a moment, then added a spirit watermelon.

Qin Lang sent some to his maternal grandfather's family, and Qin Tan sent some watermelons to several colleagues and friends to try. There was no need to worry about being presumptuous for not sending invitations; no one would find it presumptuous, nor would they mind that it was just an ordinary watermelon.

They were all court officials, and their low rank did not mean they had no informants.

These melons weren't cheap, and the families who got them were very happy.

By the time the three families finished dividing the melon and eating, it was already very late.

Everyone was starving, but their faces were full of joy. After the meal, Qin Lang was both fortunate and generous. He took a few spirit melons, cut them open, and gave each of the three sons of the concubine half a piece of spirit melon.

"Thank you, elder brother." The third son of the concubine was overjoyed, holding half a piece of spirit melon. Eating the spirit melon would benefit his spiritual power.

Qin Tan seized the opportunity to give them a warning: "Qin Lang is good to you, so don't be ungrateful."

The illegitimate sons all agreed, and Madam Zhu was satisfied. She said kindly, "It's getting late, go and rest."

The concubine's daughters were not left out either; each of them received a small piece of the spirit melon.
