Chapter 57: Even more money won't work.

Even more outrageous, when Qiu Jichen got out of the car, he saw his colleague, whom he had just met that morning, climb out of the driver's seat of the car behind him and hurriedly walk past him to talk to the driver.

Qiu Jichen doesn't speak much of the Emerald Kingdom's language, but he can understand some simple words.

Qiu Jichen listened quietly for a while, piecing together fragments of their conversation.

Basically, the brakes on his translator's car failed, and he accidentally crashed into their car.

Although it wasn't intentional, he will fully compensate the driver for his losses and give the driver some money, to see if the driver is willing to settle the matter privately.

When the driver heard that he was willing to pay, his anger subsided a little, and he didn't seem so vicious anymore.

After some back and forth, the two finally settled on a reasonable amount.

The translator transferred the money quite readily, and the driver lowered his guard a little, walking aside to make a phone call to have someone come and pick him up.

Seeing this, the translator quickly gave Qiu Jichen a wink.

Qiu Jichen pointed to himself in surprise, finally realizing that something was wrong.

But he wasn't stupid; the translator was clearly wary of the taxi driver.

Qiu Jichen nodded and quietly followed the translator to the car he had driven.

Once they reached both sides of the car, the two exchanged a glance, then tacitly jumped into the car as quickly as possible, locked it, and started driving.

The driver, who had just explained the location of the breakdown to his companion, suddenly heard the sound of the car starting. He instinctively turned his head and saw the target driving away with the man behind him!
He chased after them for a few steps before realizing his car had broken down and wouldn't move. Enraged, he yelled and pulled out his pistol, firing wildly at the back of their car.

Even though the car had already driven quite a distance, the two people inside still felt their hearts pound and broke out in a cold sweat when they heard the gunshot behind them.

"Let me make this clear first: I'll only do this kind of life-threatening thing once. There's absolutely no chance of it happening again, not even for more money!"

The translator's hands trembled slightly as he gripped the steering wheel, and cold sweat streamed down his forehead like a waterfall. He felt as if this experience had shortened his lifespan by several years.

"What the hell does this happen?"

"We'll have Mr. Qiu explain the details to you in person later. Let's head to the airport first."

Worried that the rampant fraud gang would realize what was happening and catch up with them, the translator drove like a maniac, the wheels almost smoking, and finally made it into the airport before nightfall.

It wasn't until they boarded their return flight and were completely sure they were safe that Qiu Jichen learned the whole story from his elderly mother.

"What did you say? You met a powerful master when you went to inspect the mall, and he predicted that I was being deceived emotionally by a swindler and was about to be in danger, so he told Brother Wu to drive there and rescue me. Mom, are you sure you really didn't meet a swindler?"

Before Qiu Jichen could finish speaking, and before Ms. Qiu on the other end of the phone could explain, Brother Wu, sitting next to him, interrupted, "Why don't you try to recall how that driver chased after us and beat us when we were running away? Is there any suspense about who encountered the swindler?"

Qiu Jichen choked, remembering how the phone call he couldn't get through to Ms. Qiu earlier went through immediately after she boarded the plane, and a bitter expression appeared on his face.

In truth, he was well aware that he had fallen into someone else's trap, but he simply refused to believe it.

Ms. Qiu was startled when she heard what Brother Wu said: "They hit you? Are you injured? How serious is it?"

"No injuries. Thanks to Mr. Qiu for warning me beforehand that the driver was suspicious, I rammed his car to stop it, gave him some money to lower his guard, and managed to get Manager Qiu away. When we left, he got angry and started hitting us. Luckily we ran fast, otherwise we probably would have both been killed." Brother Wu said all this simply because he felt that he had gone to so much trouble to rescue the person, and even if he didn't get credit, he had at least worked hard. He wanted to show off to his boss and secure a stable job for himself.

Ms. Qiu was terrified as she listened, vaguely recalling Du Anrao's suggestion to contact the company employee who had traveled with Qiu Jichen on the same business trip, and to learn what Qiu Jichen had said after leaving the hotel in a taxi not long ago.

"Was Mr. Qiu's trip planned, or was it a spur-of-the-moment decision?"

"The trip was planned, and the taxis were all booked in advance."

"Are you sure it was arranged in advance? Then I suspect that the taxi driver who picked him up is probably also a member of a fraud gang. Tell the people who are chasing him to be careful."

The reason for this question is that when Du Anrao was reviewing the reports on this transnational case, he found that Qiu Jichen was taken into custody almost as soon as he got out of the car.

Moreover, during the later investigation of this case, even though Qiu Jichen had traveled to many places, he managed to leave no trace whatsoever.

It was as if he vanished the moment he stepped out of the hotel, only to reappear when his body was discovered.

Although it is a transnational case, which is troublesome to investigate, such an absurd investigation and conclusion still raises eyebrows, making people wonder if the author just randomly gave him a quick lunch.

But when he actually encountered this situation in real life, Du Anrao had to consider whether the reason for this was that Qiu Jichen had already stepped into the trap set by his online lover the moment he was picked up from the hotel, and could not escape.

As it turned out, Du Anrao's concerns were correct.

It was because of her reminder that the young master of the Ya Yu family was able to escape from the fraud ring's tightly linked control with the help of the translator, thus avoiding a tragic death in a foreign country.

After saying what he needed to say the day before, Du Anrao and Du Yuxi went to the shop that Madam Xi had mentioned and each picked out a dress they liked before going home.

She didn't pay much attention to what happened afterward. Qiu Jichen was abroad, and she was just a little Taoist priest from a remote place; her network of connections certainly wasn't as extensive as Ms. Qiu's.

If even she couldn't save Qiu Jichen, then Du Anrao would be even more powerless.

Fortunately, early the next morning, a well-dressed counter manager personally delivered two sets of valuable jewelry to the hotel, specifically requesting them to be given to the Du Anrao sisters.

Upon seeing this, Du Anrao and his companion knew that Qiu Jichen was most likely alright.

"Excuse me, are you Miss Du Anrao?"

"I'm."

"Our boss asked me to deliver a set of jewelry to Ms. Du Anrao and Ms. Du Yuxi as a thank you gift for your help." The counter manager, wearing gloves, handed the two sets of jewelry to the two women with a formulaic smile.

"Also, the boss has something to say to you both. She went to pick up the general manager early this morning and can't come over. She will bring the general manager to thank you in person when she has time in a couple of days. I hope Miss Du won't mind."

"Your general manager is...your boss's son?"

"Yes."

"Okay." Du Anrao finally smiled. "Please thank your boss for the gift for me."
