Chapter 418: Get in (Please subscribe, read, vote and comment)

Martin made his decision and there was nothing Arthur could do to persuade him.

What's more, Martin is the only one who can be in charge of everything in Gotham now.

At most, Arthur could only give him some advice, but he couldn't make any decisions for him.

"Then be careful!"

Amid Arthur's advice, Martin ended the call.

"Martin, Alfred and his men have already landed. But before he and Dick went to visit those congressmen, a general from the Joint Chiefs of Staff came to see them."

Barbara walked into the monitoring room to inform Martin of the latest news from Washington, but saw him fully armed and organizing his guns.

"The League of Assassins is gathering in Gotham, and I'm going to find out what they want to do. You stay here to prevent any sneak attacks."

Martin handed Barbara the note sent by the Assassin's League pigeon.

Barbara stared at the message on the note with wide eyes, her face instantly shrank into a ball: "After the last riot in Gotham, I thought Lars's people were almost all dead. Why are they making a comeback again?"

"The Middle East is full of people who are desperate and willing to sell everything to survive. Maybe Lars will choose his followers, but Talia won't care about that. This is also an important reason why she can't compare to her father."

Martin put the guns into a big bag, carried it on his shoulder, and mocked Talia unceremoniously: "She has no faith. Her seemingly sharp ambitions are always easily influenced by external factors. Therefore, no matter how cunning Talia is, she will never be as good as Lars."

"That's why if the Assassin's League gets involved in the Apokolips incident, Lars will be the leader, not Talia. This is because the risk is too great, and Talia will never put herself in danger."

"This is not good news."

Barbara shook her head. Her memories of the League of Assassins could be summed up in two words - pain.

"I will find out about the Assassin's League. You just stay in prison. As for Washington, let Alfred go and talk to him. It's not time for us to intervene yet."

"A member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, isn't that qualified to talk to us?"

Barbara felt that Martin's attitude was a bit too arrogant. A man of his status had already reached the top of the United States.

"You misunderstood me. We can't make any promises to each other right now. It's precisely because the other party's status is very high that we can't meet him easily."

Martin suddenly remembered a general he had long wanted to meet, and before leaving, he said to Barbara, "What's the name of the general tied to Alfred's waist?"

Barbara glanced at her phone: "Calvin Swanwick!"

"Send me all the information about that general. I'm very interested in him."

Martin didn't explain what he was going to do, and Barbara didn't ask, but just said she understood.

Investigating a general is not an easy task, not to mention that Martin must know that it is definitely not the information that can be obtained by just taking action on Google.

In short, Martin's departure did not make Barbara idle, but made her even busier.

When Martin left Blackgate Prison, he did not drive the Batmobile, but borrowed a prison guard's car.

The Batmobile is too big a target, and as soon as it leaves Blackgate Prison, the news will spread throughout Gotham immediately.

But Bruce is operating elsewhere under his own identity, so the Assassins' League, who know Bruce's true identity, will become alert.

In order to ensure the secrecy of his identity, Martin even borrowed a set of prison guard clothes.

Even so, he was being watched.

In order to shake off the person following him, Martin drove around on the road for a while, then found a restaurant and sat there for about half an hour before the person following him lost his patience.

Fortunately, the Assassin's League required the gathering time to be in the evening, so Martin had plenty of time to deal with people.

Otherwise, he would have found a place to change out of his prison guard uniform and get rid of them instead of waiting for them to leave on their own.

Now that he's here, Martin doesn't just focus on acting.

He was busy the whole morning, and although he didn't fight, he dealt with a lot of miscellaneous things, which consumed a lot of energy.

He simply had a full meal in this fast food restaurant, then took a glass of ice cola, slowly left the restaurant, changed into ordinary casual clothes, and drove to the secret base of the Assassin's League in Gotham.

During this period, Barbara also found out Calvin Swanwick's information and sent it to Martin in full.

On the surface, this general seems to be the embodiment of the American dream. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. His parents died of illness when he was young. After finishing high school with difficulty, he joined the army to make a living.

He worked his way up and was promoted to brigadier general based on his achievements on the battlefields in the Middle East. Then he withdrew from the front-line troops and entered politics, serving several presidents.

This resume looks very innocent, but innocence itself is the biggest problem.

There are civilian-born officers in the U.S. military who are active on the front lines, but there are clear barriers to entry from the front-line troops to Washington.

The U.S. Congress has always been particularly wary of the military. Even those who come from prominent families and want to switch from the military to politicians must first cut off their military attributes.

As arrogant as MacArthur was, he wanted to compete for the presidency as a soldier, but ended up ending his life in disgrace.

Although Eisenhower was a famous general in the military, before running for president, he resigned from various military positions and even retired from active service, abandoning everything in the military and winning the presidency as an ordinary Republican.

And Calvin Swanwick, not only does he not have a prominent family background, he is also black.

Although there is a lot of clamor for political correctness among the American people, various forms of discrimination are still rampant among the upper levels of government.

A black man who wants to hold real power in Washington will never be treated fairly.

The file fabricated by Calvin or the Martian Hunter was too smooth.

However, fabricating files is not an uncommon thing for Americans. After all, it is a free country, and as long as there are enough resources, anything can be done.

In the eyes of ordinary people, Calvin did this just to hide some stains in his life.

But Martin knew that this period of life was a protective color used by the Martian Hunter to hide his true identity.

"It seems that I have to meet this general as soon as possible."

In various versions, the reason why Martian Manhunter came to Earth was basically because of the demise of the Martians. However, the reasons for the demise of the Martians were different. Some were due to internal conflicts among the Martians, some were due to alien invasions, and some were due to the influence of Darkseid.

The different reasons for the Martians' extinction will also affect the reasons why the Martian Hunter comes to Earth.

However, the only thing that is certain is that this spiritual master among the Martians is definitely a good person and has no covetousness for the Earth.

Just being a good person doesn't mean that the Martian Hunter has no fear at all if someone suddenly rushes up to him and says he is a Martian.

Martian Manhunter will never admit his identity and will hide it even deeper, which may make him feel that the Justice League is closing in on him, thus severing the cooperation between the two.

Out of various concerns, Martin did not inform others that Calvin was a Martian, but instead prepared to go and meet him himself.

But before that, he had to deal with the League of Assassins first and not let those assassins do whatever they want in Gotham.

Even if they have nothing to do with the affairs of Apokolips, they cannot be allowed to stay here, disrupt Gotham and affect Bruce.

Martin drove an ordinary car slowly on the streets of Gotham. After turning a few circles, he pretended to pass by the secret base of the Assassin's League casually.

The person who summoned the members of the Assassin's League arranged the meeting place in an old residential building.

This building is only five or six stories high, and the painted walls on the outside have peeled off, revealing the red bricks and concrete.

At first glance, this building looks like an old man who is nearing the end of his life. It can only make people feel sad and sympathetic, but not have the urge to live in it.

The building is located in a civilian community. There is an open space in front of the door that is overgrown with weeds. Although there is a fence installed around it, it is only half a person's height and is only used to keep out animals such as wild dogs or young children.

The street in front of the door was full of homeless people. Only a few of them were still relatively clean, but most of them were poor and destitute.

Those who are just suffering from cold and hunger are still in a relatively good situation. They will be fine if they just bear with it.

But those who are addicted to drugs are completely ruined, both mentally and physically destroyed. Lying on the street, they are just quietly waiting for death to come and end their hopeless life.

Martin looked at the miserable conditions of the people on both sides of the street and sighed silently in his heart, but did not show this emotion on his face.

He bet there were at least three pairs of eyes staring at him from nearby building's floors as he drove across the street, waiting for him to make the wrong choice because of this.

Martin remained firmly seated, one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding a drink and potato chips he had brought from the fast food restaurant.

His eyes were always on the buildings on both sides of the street, and he kept in mind all the sentries posted outside.

After the vehicle left the street, he parked the car aside, took off his clothes, changed into new clothes, and then walked back to the street.

This time, Martin pretended to be a passerby who had taken the wrong road. He hurried across the street and used his experience to dig out the sentry hidden in the dark and memorized it in his mind.

Although Martin is experienced, it is impossible to find all the sentries by using camouflage to detect them, and there must be omissions.

But he couldn't use disguise to get close to the old residential building and confirm again that there were no omissions in the sentries he had found.

There is absolutely no problem with the ability of the assassins under Lars. Martin can do it once or twice, but not three or four times.

Once he is lucky enough to step into that area, he will be faced with overwhelming swords and sabers, and may even lose his life.

……

If he was alone, Martin would have rushed in without hesitation to remove the sentries first, and then turn the old residential building upside down. He would have found the mastermind behind everything and beaten him up."

But Martin wants more than just to deal with the League of Assassins. He also wants to know why they want to attack Gotham at this time and what their goal is.

With this idea in mind, Martin took out a drone and released it, adjusting the altitude. He flew over each building on the street, marking all the sentries inside that were monitoring the entire street.

There are three buildings on one street which are the bases of the Assassin's League. There are at least a dozen checkpoints set up in the streets and alleys. They are well camouflaged, and it is not easy even for trained people to identify them.

But apart from these disguised sentinels, the three buildings used by the Assassin's League as secret bases were empty, with few signs of life.

It is estimated that the main force of the Assassin's League has not arrived yet, and it is not so easy to summon the secret agents arranged by the Assassin's League in Gotham to react.

What's more, the time written on the note was evening, so no one would come here early.

Martin took back the drone and thought for a while. He decided not to wait until night and decided to go and check first to see whether the person preparing to cause trouble was the Master Assassin himself or someone else.

Martin did what he said, disguised himself as a homeless man, and sneaked into the street again.

He had confirmed the locations of the sentries and used his camouflage to successfully avoid their sight. He approached the old residential building, went around the back of the building, and found the door leading to the basement.

Since the Assassin's League used this place as a secret base, it must have been carefully transformed.

The door leading to the basement looked very ordinary, and the lock seemed to be able to be pried open with just two pieces of wire.

But Martin could easily guess that the moment he pried the door open, a dozen assassins would rush out and beat him to a pulp.

So before entering the door, he took out the interference device developed by Bruce, stuck it to the door, and released strong electromagnetic waves to temporarily interfere with electronic equipment within a radius of five or six meters.

At the moment the jammer took effect, Martin took out a piece of wire, pried open the door in two or three seconds at most, and got straight in.

The first thing he did when he entered the room was to take off his clothes, revealing the black combat uniform of the Assassin's League. His whole body was wrapped in black cloth, leaving only a pair of eyes exposed.

If you walk down the street dressed like this you'll be considered a psychopath, but that's how the assassins inside this residential building are dressed.

They saw that the surveillance was interfered by the jammer and snowflakes suddenly floated on the screen, so they quickly sent people to check the situation.

"What's going on? Did someone break in?"

The assassin who came out of the building did not doubt Martin's identity.

Because the clothes he wore and the weapons he carried all bore the unique logo of the League of Assassins, even Bruce couldn't completely forge it.

"When I got here, I didn't see anyone else. The door was closed."
