Chapter 639 Phantom
Chapter 639 Phantom
I have to say, watching beautiful women climb walls is actually quite pleasing to the eye.
Especially after the operation officially began, watching Lina, who had changed into a tight-fitting outfit and tied her hair in a ponytail, gracefully hook over the outer wall of the house next to her, walk on the horizontal bar on the eaves like a gymnast, and even use the gem on the back of her openwork gloves to open the window on the third floor while hanging upside down, Wayne felt that the so-called "aerial yoga" was nothing more than this.
A cat meowed, and the pane of glass, which had been pressed open and then closed, was gently laid flat on the windowsill. The window was quietly opened.
Peter the Spider slipped inside first, followed by his nimble figure vaulting over, leaving only a rope hanging outside the window.
After the brief enjoyment, the tense part begins.
Based on Lina's experience, the cultists could discover an intruder at any time, so Wayne and his team would need to provide support at any time.
Next comes a simple matter of "improvisation." If there's nothing wrong with the house, Lina can handle it all by herself. She might even go in for a stroll and come out without anyone noticing.
If there is indeed a problem with the house, then we will start taking action immediately.
Having learned his lesson, Connor had this time prepared the holy ointment given to him by the monks, as well as a small bottle of potion supposedly used to save lives in emergencies, in addition to holy water.
Wayne and his men, who were responsible for breaching the door from the front, were all armed with "heavy firepower." Each of them carried a double-barreled shotgun, which they would discard after use. They also carried a spare lever-action rifle, which was designed to provide "plenty of firepower in small spaces."
Wayne even picked up a few stones and put them in his pocket beforehand. If it weren't for the fact that his "bomb" ability would definitely explode after the countdown ended, potentially alerting the cultists who were actually hiding in other nearby houses if he went to the wrong one, he would have charged it in advance to avoid running out of firepower.
"Bam—"
They waited for less than a minute, but instead of hearing Lina's greeting, Wayne and his group heard the explosion of a high-explosive.
Lina is usually quite "relaxed" in her work, so she definitely wouldn't do anything reckless—at least not this kind of "reckless" thing—and so, with a series of "crack" sounds as the hammer was being used, Sanders kicked open the front door of the house, and Wayne and Connor covered each other as they rushed inside.
"Oh!"
Before Wayne could even assess the other's extraordinary abilities, through his sleek, minimalist vision, he saw strange "dots" accumulating on a figure in the living room. He then fired a shotgun blast at the figure's head.
Sanders, who followed in, was responsible for finishing off the enemy. Connor rushed into the hallway connecting to the living room, sprayed a shot, and dodged. Then Wayne aimed his gun at them again.
One person had already fallen in the corridor, and a figure could still be vaguely seen around the corner of the stairs. Then, a tentacle-like "dot" of water poured down from above Wayne's head. Wayne dodged backward while simultaneously firing another shot in the direction of the figure.
These days, shotguns can't be continuously fed. After firing the two rounds in the barrel, Wayne smashed the gun down to stop the other party from rushing into the corridor that might lead to the back door.
"Damn it!" the other person cursed as they retreated to the corner of the stairs.
His response was a series of "bang bang bang bang!"
Wayne found the lever-action rifle more comfortable. After kicking the dagger beside the man lying in the corridor away, he roughly tracked the guy's movements on the stairs and began to use his senses to pass through the walls, even through the wooden steps.
Under Wayne's cover fire, Connor leaped up and aimed his shotgun at the top of the stairs. As he fired, "Bang!" At the same time, another tentacle-like "dot" lunged at him from the gap between the handrails.
These "tentacles" didn't seem to be invisible to the naked eye either. Connor tried to dodge in mid-air but had nowhere to grab on, and Wayne was too late.
Sanders, the tough guy, swung his leg and threw Connor to the ground with a thud, just like Loki being beaten up by the Hulk in the movie.
At that moment, the sound of shattering glass, as if someone was breaking a window and getting out, came from upstairs. The location was at the back of the building. Then, a series of gunshots rang out outside, followed by the loud explosion of high explosives in a relatively open area.
Connor, who had been thrown to the ground, quickly rolled on the floor, baring his teeth, and tumbled into the opposite corridor on the other side of the stairwell, completely blocking any possible path to the back door. He considered giving the middle finger but then decided against it, so he grabbed a lever-action rifle from behind his back with one hand and clenched his fist at Sanders with the other.
The people who had been hiding on the stairs seemed to have already gone upstairs. Wayne, under the cover of two guns behind him, rushed to the bottom of the stairs. Finding no one in sight, the minimalist camera lens quietly panned upwards. These guys seemed to have mainly concentrated on the second floor. The high explosives Lina had thrown appeared to have detonated in the second-floor living room; amidst the chaos, the soles of shoes could be seen lying helplessly in the floor. It seemed she had retreated back to the third floor; faint sounds of movement could still be heard from a distance.
Amid the explosion outside the back door, Sanders peered at the side of the neck of the man lying in the corridor, nodded slightly to Wayne and Connor, and then Wayne continued rushing upwards.
The second floor was relatively "clean," with all the rooms having their doors open. Even the living room, which occupied nearly half the area, was empty.
Wayne was wondering why these guys didn't seem as formidable as the one they'd "encountered" on their first night when the muffled sound of a bolt-action rifle and the cracking of glass seemed to rang out simultaneously.
When they arrived at the bedroom next to the living room, they saw a guy who seemed to want to jump out of the window, but he was "deterred" by a bullet.
I advise you not to jump out the window. If you jump from here, you'll run into Inessa next.
Even those who die by gunfire at least get to have a complete corpse...
Then, tentacles made of tiny dots rushed towards him. Wayne first dodged to the side of the wall, then quickly pushed against it, falling to the ground and spinning in a circle before immediately pulling his legs back a short distance.
These tentacles could actually pass through walls. After they "grew" out of the wall, they lashed out a few times like whips. Then, they received "reinforcements," with several more sprouting up from the side. Wayne didn't know the specific function of this extraordinary ability, but just by looking at the density of these "dots," he knew that getting hit by them would be bad news.
Just as he was about to circle back to the front of the door to find a shooting angle and continue to exploit the weakness of the person inside, the man inside rushed out.
In the minimalist visuals, he is now completely enveloped in a cluster of tentacles made up of tiny dots, giving him a crazy, "mop covered in poop, wildly waving around" vibe.
Wayne, of course, didn't want to get close. While dodging the relentlessly lashing "tentacles," he looked for an opportunity to fire into the swarm of tentacles. The minimalist visual system now had a side effect; the swarming, randomly floating "dots" completely obscured his figure, making their positions even harder to guess than those of ordinary wall-penetrating attacks.
Connor and Sanders, who were checking the other rooms on the second floor for safety, also came to the rescue. Together, they fired continuously at the guy whose appearance in Wayne's vision was comparable to the "King of the Swarm". The gunshots rang out in the room like surround sound.
Two twisted lines crashed down from the upper floor into the "swarm" of tiny dots. As Lina peeked out from the stairs, the figures hiding among the dots seemed to have their movements restricted as well.
Just when Wayne thought this guy was doomed, the minimalist lines of his vision once again showed an X-ray-like "penetrating" effect. It wasn't that Wayne's extraordinary abilities had been enhanced, but rather that a "bright light" pierced through all obstacles like lightning, making Wayne's vision seem to be able to see only it for a moment.
Or more accurately, it should be called "He"...
Lying trough,
It's that majestic, large feathered serpent phantom again!
The chaotic spiritual pressure, like a swirling cloud of air that could unleash a hurricane at any moment, was suffocating. Then, Lina shouted something, and an even more oppressive pressure erupted instantly.
Driven by a frantic warning from his spiritual intuition, Wayne quickly shut down his vision of the minimalist lines. Then, in the dim candlelight of the room, he saw a figure hiding in a swarm of snake-like mist, seemingly holding something in one hand, as if it were the "eye of a typhoon" capable of stirring up the entire space.
But it didn't work.
The moment another wave of oppressive force erupted, the figure was instantly crumpled into a ball like a sheet of A4 paper, and then torn to shreds.
Wayne had no idea what he had seen in that instant; he only felt his thoughts being swept away and submerged by a giant wave.
Before collapsing to the ground from the impact of spiritual pressure, only one faint thought remained in Wayne's mind:
Lina, next time you summon the "Sage of Wisdom," could you please let me know beforehand...?
